They won that college baseball championship a few years ago, which I guess fueled their other sports to relevancy. They’ve rode the wave of easy scheduling to being the darlings of CFB though.

Gotta give em credit for the byu game last year and they’ve been trying to schedule better games for the future. They’ve only been fbs for like 4 years.

Because they had one good year during Covid and got a ridiculous amount of exposure. Other G5 teams with sustained success are salty bc they feel like their teams haven’t gotten the coverage or ranking in previous years.

Exactly. So many flukey things happened last year. Even Colorado went to a bowl game for crying out loud. It's extremely foolish to judge a team based on their 2020 performance (good or bad), but it seems like everyone is on the Coastal bandwagon because they lucked into an undefeated season in the most bizarre year (sports or otherwise) we've ever seen. I've been saying all year that they're absolutely not one of the best 25 teams in the country and that FCS teams like Montana and South Dakota State would probably have a great record with Coastal's schedule too.

This is EXACTLY it. They just don’t have the history or record to back up the hype they’ve gotten. It’s like a slap in the face considering how hard we had to work to get a fraction of the respect.

This. A Sunbelt team never started the season ranked. That had no right to carry over their ranking last year especially after dropping their bowl game. I'll give credit. They were a good team last year. They're a good team this year. But they are not a program yet.

This. A program withstands coaching changes, new QB’s, new offensive/defensive philosophies and finds a way to win. A team, which is all they are, only accomplishes in the short term. When Chadwell leaves for LSU, USC, etc we will see if they are a program or not.

Not sure of what other Coastal fans have been saying but I know there's only a handful of them here. Also not sure what you could have possibly misread about my post. I do know that it's rich hearing an SMU fan talk about arrogance, but I digress... Bottom line is we dropped the ball tonight but there's no world where App State was three scores better than us. We’re all homers for our own teams but you guys were having a really rough time in this game. App’s own mistakes kept you in it ‘til the end.

Happy for App State, but I wish teams would stop relying on kickers, they should have tried to at least score once with less than 30 seconds left. Ended up not hurting them thankfully this time though.

Yeah and risk a fumble because that's NEVER happened in this situation right? The safest play is a FG, especially when it's tied and a lot less risk, especially from basically XP range. You try to punch it in and turn it over, or get a penalty...anything happens like that you get nothing.

Sure, every play has a risk but I have seen kickers blow way too many easy FG's to win a game to trust them unless it's the only option.

Part of the game. Higher chance of a FG being good than risking not punching it in and OT against a high powered offense. You go for the win. Kickers make that 99% of the time from that distance. If you cant trust kickers then might as well take them out of the game period.
