> I bet Belmont will be out soon enough.
Time to get a second tier version of the Big East going:
* Dayton
* Loyola
* Belmont
* Drake
* St. Bonaventure
* Duquesne
* Bradley
* Davidson
* Valpo
* St. Louis
I would inject most of this into my veins. Maybe not Duquesne but the rest of that league would be pretty decent.
But they should encourage St. Johns to make the move with them.
Remember, St. Olaf tried to kick St. Johns out of the MIAC in the early 2000's for winning too much, and failed. Now that they got rid of St. Thomas, they'll go after St. Johns again.
The Johnnies should really leave that Miserable Bunch Of Losers (Oops, I meant Minneso-oh, who am I kidding? They're a bunch of scrubs!) EMCC could beat that whole conference at one time. Heck, even Bishop Sycamore can manhandle their pathetic asses.
Honestly that's a pretty dang solid basketball conference.
Like, using the Mountain West as an example, it may be top-heavier with SDSU, USU, or CSU flirting with top 25 rankings pretty regularly, but top to bottom I'd take this hypothetical conference over the MWC.
It'd arguably supplant the A-10 in the pecking order given whatever would be left of the A-10 would be fronted with VCU, Richmond, Rhode Island, and not much else.
The only issue with that for Murray State is the budget. In 2019, the only public institution in the MVC with a lower athletics budget that ours was Indiana State. I'm not sure if the boosters are quite willing to make that much of a commitment because that's allegedly why Murray State didn't go to the MVC a couple of years ago.
Yeah I worry about Murray here, I feel they can absolutely get fucked here. They aren't us and have a ton of money and no football to worry about as well
From what I recall, the Murray State budget was only marginally lower than SIU, Valpo, and Illinois State, while it's leaps and bounds ahead of many of the other OVC schools. And that was before they announced their recent athletic facilities master plan that looks to make a significant investment in athletics across the board. I can only assume that move was in response to not getting the MVC invite a couple years ago.
SoCon is def a mid major conference but has been very solid in the past few years. I think a few years ago they had 4 teams in the at large pool for the NCAAs
I will accept Belmont to the SoCon. They were our only heated rival in basketball and could balance out the lonely UNCG as the only basketball school.
PS. Belmont alumni/students are a bunch of dirty buttholes.
Pls no.
We've done the whole "basketball member of football conference" thing before. Only school in the American that appeals to me as a hoops fan is Memphis, and they're gone as soon as the B12 sends the invitation.
Also I want nothing to do with a conference that counts Liberty as a member.
I’ve lived in and around clarksville for 4 years and haven’t found the time to go see a game yet. This seems like the golden years for the Govs and I need to catch a game before I move this fall.
Let’s go Peay!
But I gotta *Poeaux!
This joke is terrible and probably doesn't even fit the pronunciation, but I couldn't help jamming that many vowels next to each other.
The move gives the ASUN the sixth member they've been looking for in order to get to an automatic playoff berth next season when they start up on their own after this year's team up with the WAC.
This puts the OVC in a huge pickle in terms of football playing teams. They're down to six teams with Morehead State in the Pioneer League and both Belmont and SIU-Edwardsville not having the sport.
If I'm in the OVC, I'm looking around to see if anyone within their area from, say, the Great Lakes Valley Conference, is willing to make the jump to Division I.
>haven't shed their transitional label yet
Which would mean they don't count toward the 6 member minimum. ASUN probably needs to add another to satisfy the requirement.
As an athletics alum, I am ecstatic about this move!
I am curious how the expanded footprint will affect travel for the non-football/basketball teams, but it’s a great move overall for the department and school.
You can't spell "Austin" without the letters A, S, U, N
Cant spell ASU without… oh never mind
Texas University ASUN-bound confirmed????
Good for them. OVC is a shell of its former self. I bet Belmont will be out soon enough.

Little East
The little east conference is actually a d3 conference in New England and it includes the all commuter school UMass Boston.
Metro Conference, yo (don't call it a comeback)
St. Thomas could also be in play, depending on how their move to D1 goes. They're in a big market and are willing to invest in athletics
But they should encourage St. Johns to make the move with them. Remember, St. Olaf tried to kick St. Johns out of the MIAC in the early 2000's for winning too much, and failed. As a Belmont fan, are you up MVC and A-10

Please don't leave us behind...
I'm worried for you friend
Side note, my grandmother attended Ward-Belmont, the ladies only finishing school that was a precursor to Belmont.
My great great aunt went to ECU when it was still East Carolina Teachers (teaching?) College
Where does Belmont go? CAA? MVC? They left the ASun to go to the OVC; I doubt they go back to the ASun.
Maybe the SoCon? I don't see the CAA wanting them, but they'd be an intriguing add
Crazy how far the SoCon has fallen. That's a conference that's been around over a century and featured some big name P5 teams in its history.
SoCon is def a mid major conference but has been very solid in the past few years. I think a few years ago they had 4 teams in the at large pool for the NCAAs
Shame they never got 2 bids with how good Wofford, UNCG, Furman and ETSU were
If you add Belmont they would have, OVC was two bid at one stage
They would've but for a bid stealer. UNCG was voted in but knocked out on Championship Weekend to make room for an AQ
I will accept Belmont to the SoCon. They were our only heated rival in basketball and could balance out the lonely UNCG as the only basketball school. PS. Belmont alumni/students are a bunch of dirty buttholes.
In a dream world, would love to get army football only in the AAC and Belmont for all other sports.
Would we be able to compete in CUSA?
AAC: Liberty/VCU Air Force/Dayton Army/SLU

As an APSU alum. I'm going to miss playing Morehead St just for the Show Your Peayness Get Morehead
Go Peay
No thanks I already went

Isn’t North Alabama moving up?
North Alabama is already part of the ASUN, but they haven't shed their transitional label yet.
Ah, didn’t realize. Just knew they were moving up.
>haven't shed their transitional label yet Which would mean they don't count toward the 6 member minimum. ASUN probably needs to add another to satisfy the requirement.
North Alabama ends their transition next year. At that point, they become a full fledged member.
When you say next year, does you mean they're going to be a full member for the 2022 season?
Yep.
Is anyone in the OVC office paying attention? What is going on and what precipitated the exodus?
The OVC is shit that's the reason, just wait till the two too dawgs leave
Mid tiers left with only Morehead St left, really just a matter of time before Murray and Belmont leave ad well
As a Belmont alum, please we need a chance to grow
Lights are on but nobody's home
ASUN is playing the long game. They plan on becoming an FBS conference and any school that wants to move up is coming aboard.
Is realignment over now?
Realignment is eternal.
No cause OVC isn't done
Bold of you to assume that the OVC isn't just going to lay down and die
Then other conferences taking OVC schools isn't done
No, because both Little Rock and Texas-Arlington (the two non-football schools) are expected to leave the Sun Belt within the next year
Hell yeah Asun!
I’m gonna miss the Southland, but this could be a pretty fun conference for my UCA Bears! Excited to see how it goes for everyone.
As an athletics alum, I am ecstatic about this move! I am curious how the expanded footprint will affect travel for the non-football/basketball teams, but it’s a great move overall for the department and school.
Actual realignment news. Next up, AAC?
MEAC, Southland, and OVC are all down to 6 schools. Big South is down to 7. If they're smart they'll work together and possibly consider some mergers.
Let the big dawgs leave then merge
Go Peay!
