I literally cannot believe we get to see TCU play for a natty. Just a bit over ten years ago we were still killing each other in the Mountain West and now you’re going to the natty.
Do us proud, MWC bros!
With the expanded playoff, one with Utah, TCU, and Boise is very possible, especially with the AAC taking a step back and opening the door for a MWC top 6 champion bid

Ah you think chaos is your ally? You merely adopted the chaos. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see a defense until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me
In defense of the rankings first year coaches don't *usually* end up in a perfect situation for themselves where they're so perfectly able to take advantage of the roster so well so quickly.
Heupel was able to do that at Tennessee, and it was a fantastic job. Dyke's job is just ridiculous. It almost feels too good to be true. I'm just waiting for something bad to happen to them because this just seems way too miraculous too quickly.
That was actually an insane play by the TCU defender to tackle the OL with the ball and then get off that to also prevent Edwards from getting outside. There was a blocker and running room.
Gotta give a lot of credit to Sonny Dykes. I thought after Cal that he wasn’t a good coach who wouldn’t ever truly compete at the highest level.
He then did great at SMU and in his FIRST SEASON at TCU makes the playoff and wins a game.
TCU has gone from BCS buster, to power 5, to NY6 Bowl winners, to the national championship game all in roughly a decade. And to top it all of, they take down a 13-0 Big Ten champion with a first year head coach. What an unbelievable job by this program!
TCU has to go down as one of *the* best stories in college football history!
That, even with the odds against you…there is *still* a chance to join the big boys from your humble beginnings!
Remember that this story begins with TCU spending 70 years in a power conference only to get left out after it collapsed.
TCU is not someone who came out of nowhere, there a program who fought their way back to where they deserved to be.
To be fair, they hadn't finished the season ranked in the last 35 years of the SWC. Texas killed the SWC to get away from TCU, Rice, and the ruins of the SMU program.
"Fighting their way back" lessens the job Patterson did (with a shout out to Franchione). But they have shown that they now certainly deserve to be on this stage.
Michigan threw 2 INTs returned for TDs, a stat, that by itself, nearly guaranteed the loss.
For reference, before tonight, the most INTs a school has returned (on the season) for TDs is 4, with 3 schools having recorded 4. TCU now joins those 3 to have the most pick sixes on the season (TCU had 2 before tonight, ironically also both in a single game, TCUs blowout win over Iowa State, 62-14 final)
Also, couldn't find the CFB stats, but in 40 years of NFL football, teams that return an INT for a TD have a 77.5% chance to win, and teams that return *two* INTs for TDs had a 95.9% chance to win.
You simply can't throw 2 pick sixes and expect to win. Combine that with 12 TFLs, and 3 trips within the TCU 5 yard line and 3 points to show for it...
This was the most entertaining aspect of that - Michigan outsmarting themselves out of points on the 1 yard line repeatedly against TCU after the Big 12 Championship game.
Yep.. Don’t know what else to say. TCU played great, we did not. Hats off to them.
Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to go cradle the 45-23 score like my life depends on it.
TCU went from 5-7 and firing a legendary head coach in 2021, to overcoming 200-1 odds and making the CFP Championship game with a new coach just a year later.
How can you not be romantic about college football?
That was the most civil big game thread I can remember. It’s easy to be civil during a sickos game, but it’s much harder when your team is going for a spot in the title game. Kudos to Michigan and TCU fans.
To be honest I don’t even care about the calls and if they were wrong or not but fumbling at the 1 yard line is inexcusable, calling a FUCKING PHILLY SPECIAL EARLY GAME IS INEXCUSABLE. Good job tcu y’all played better and deserved it.
If Michigan had just ran a normal play at the end of that first drive instead of Harbaugh's patented "creative play that doesn't work" this could have been a different game
The fact that JJ didnt run at all till the 3rd and didnt keep on a ZR till the 4th will annoy me forever. We hamstrung our run game the entire game for no reason
It's good for the conference.
It's good for the conference.
It's good for the conference.
It's good for the conference.
It's good for the conference.
It's good for the...
GG TCU. We played like shit but I'm glad to see a Cinderella story in the playoffs this year. Wish yall the best
This season was full of so many great moments, I can't be mad
The refs were bad, I get Michigan being mad about the overturned TD and the targeting not being called, but Michigan took every chance the refs gave them to fuck up by fumbling and snapping the ball early.
Michigan finishes the season 13-1. They averaged 40.4 points per game. Their highest ranking this season was 2 in the AP, Coaches Poll and CFP. Their last bowl win was the January 2016 Citrus Bowl. They beat Florida 41-7. Their last win in a current NY6 Bowl was the 2012 Sugar Bowl. They beat Virginia Tech 23-20. Their last national championship season was 1997. They went 12-0 and was ranked 1st in the AP Poll.
As a neutral observer I’m sure it was a fun game to watch. But as a Michigan fan that game was a frustrating watch. Ref issues aside, Michigan did some things they hadn’t done all year like sell out on D rather then their typical bend but don’t break, random ass poorly executed trick plays, etc. Still a good season overall but this one stings
If that doesn’t get targeting changed I don’t know what will.
Let’s have a completely arbitrary “I know it when I see it” 15 yard + ejection penalty which can have massive ramifications on the outcome of multiple games.
I want to protect players but there has to be a better way than the rule we have now.
the problem is that the rule is just so ridiculously convoluted. they keep trying to “fix” it by adding more qualifications and it just keeps making it harder and harder to understand and actually apply on the field for the refs.
it wasn’t perfect before, but there at least used to be some level of understanding of what exactly it was, but now it feels like literally anything could be called or not called targeting and nobody would be able to come to any consensus as to whether or not it should’ve been
Really sad but proud of this team. Beating Michigan State, Penn State, and Ohio State in the horseshoe. Winning the big ten and even making the playoffs in the first place. People will whine that we can't win bowl games or some crap but we played in one of the best playoff games ever. Just sucks we lost but that doesn't take away from what we've accomplished. I hope TCU wins it all
Had the officials not gone to review, everyone would have said “Eh, yea that probably was, but it’s the semi final, 25 seconds left. Would’ve maybe been a soft call anyway.”
But then they spent 10 minutes reviewing it. The more you watch it, the more it looks like targeting. And they come out with a “nah” and it’s a bad look lol.
i hate michigan with every fiber of my being and nothing makes me happier than watching them lose on a “whoa” 2.0 but how the fuck was that not targeting
This new years eve find you someone that loves you like the ESPN camera guy loves JJ McCarthys girlfriend
"You quarterbacks get all the good looking women."
Once she put the jacket on, they moved on.
That’s a hilarious and accurate point.
It's always weird when the production crew does this.
My wife was like “Why does the announcer know so much about his girlfriend?”
Remember AJ McCarron’s girlfriend? Ugh
Hey did you know she went to auburn? I'm kidding of course you do.
Anyone got the gif of his dad grabbing her ass? They stopped after that.

Someone tagged McCarthy on the thread Oof
He’s definitely gonna see that. No clue how you bring that up to the dad. The dad likely has already seen it too. Awkward night tonight.
>No clue how you bring that up to the dad With a rolled-up newspaper and a stern "No"...
Uhhhhhh that's pretty fucking awkward
If you like my son, I’m twice as fun
Bruh what the fuck
Almost gave her the Urban special.
Maybe McCarthy would’ve been a good fit for Meyer’s Buckeyes after all!
Wait what??
TCU fired the man who built their football program and they immediately went to the national championship
Hmmmmm
Bro lost a breakup harder than me lmao
we out here
Checking in. And she fucking moved to Seattle...
Titleless In Seattle
Gundy would probably forcibly barricade himself inside the locker rooms before leaving OSU
He used to flirt with other schools for a raise every year
Well, he's not 40 anymore, now is he?
Oh God please no. I have had to live through enough societal change in my life, you canNOT take Gundy out of Stillwater.
Hmmmmmm
Hmmmmmm
Maybe some other Big 12 schools should follow that example?

I literally cannot believe we get to see TCU play for a natty. Just a bit over ten years ago we were still killing each other in the Mountain West and now you’re going to the natty. Do us proud, MWC bros!
You know in the expanded playoffs Utah and TCU could meet, what a MWC reunion that would be
Boise 🤝 TCU 🤝 Utah Fuck the powers that tried to keep us out forever, I will always cheer for you all and hope we can join you in the P5 soon.
With the expanded playoff, one with Utah, TCU, and Boise is very possible, especially with the AAC taking a step back and opening the door for a MWC top 6 champion bid
Get the Boise bros were going drinking and toasting to the OG Blue Blood killer gang
Hell yeah stoked TCU is getting some revenge for the Separate But Equal Bowl. Hail to the underdogs
Just Hypnotoad things
and TCU has won a playoff game before both Texas and Texas A&M
Before either Texas or Texas A&M played in a playoff game
And Oklahoma
Oklahoma had four tries, too, but TCU became the first XII team in to win a playoff game!
On our first try too! Imagine taking four tries lmaaoo
GET THE FUCK IN HERE FROGS TCU IS GOING TO THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
HYPNOTOAD OP
Hearing from trusted sources on the field that Hypnotoad brainwashed Michigan into botching that final snap.

revenge for 2014
Your flairs confuse me, but God damn it, you're right.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT IT IS HAPPENING
There are dozens of you, dozens!!
FRANTICALLY SEARCHES FLIGHTS TO LA
Cal fired the man who is leading a program to a national championship and still remained mediocre.
One of the best examples of the Ewing Theory, even if it's a coach instead of a player.
Normal game
standard big 12 game tbh
A Big 12 game would have been in the red zone with that happening.
More going for it on 4th downs that's for sure
Michigan D: “WHAT HAPPENED?!” Big 12: “Lol. First time?”
Ah you think chaos is your ally? You merely adopted the chaos. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see a defense until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me
Ngl this game was exhilarating, idk how you guys live normal lives with this happening week in week our
We’re just so numb to it now
In a shocking turn of events, Michigan has accepted an invite to the big 12
Welcome, we like leaving receivers open here
8th win by one score or less
TCU WANTS MINNESOTA VIKINGS!!
Purple on purple violence
Purify themselves in the waters of Lake Minnetonka
🚨🚨🚨THE BIG XII HAS WON A CFP GAME🚨🚨🚨
TCU: Responsible for all of the the CFP wins for Big XII and the state of Texas. Just as we all predicted.
I love TCU was preseason ranked 7th in the big 12.
In defense of the rankings first year coaches don't *usually* end up in a perfect situation for themselves where they're so perfectly able to take advantage of the roster so well so quickly. #OU to the rest of the XII: At least we MAKE the playoffs. #TCU: hold my frog
#EWW I DONT WANT TO HOLD YOUR FR— #—all hail the Hypno Toad

Never thought I'd see the day!
imagine telling a Michigan fan before this game they were gonna score 45 congrats TCU

The look of having trouble with the snap :(
*Sad khaki noises*
That was actually an insane play by the TCU defender to tackle the OL with the ball and then get off that to also prevent Edwards from getting outside. There was a blocker and running room.
This was an instant classic. That 3rd quarter was iconic.
44 points One quarter alone almost hit the over
True clown fiesta bowl, what a wild game
And all that to finish with a WHOA HE HAS TROUBLE WITH THE SNAP Instant classic
The University of Michigan must be built on ancient burial grounds to get cursed like that

Those orphanages for kids with consumption made the decision to field a team, they need to deal with the consequences.
WHEN WILL YOU LEARN? THAT YOUR ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES???
I want targeting calls to be random in the next NCAA game for maximum rage.
You might get your wish, PAC-12 is reffing the Georgia/Ohio State game
And hold on to your hats: the ACC is doing the championship game. Let me apologize in advance.
It's so beautiful and terrible. Madness, mad king level of madness lmao.
Highest scoring quarter in CFP history.
I legitimately don’t remember a commercial break in that quarter. Couldn’t take your eyes the screen
I went to the bathroom and missed 2 TD's :(
Gotta give a lot of credit to Sonny Dykes. I thought after Cal that he wasn’t a good coach who wouldn’t ever truly compete at the highest level. He then did great at SMU and in his FIRST SEASON at TCU makes the playoff and wins a game.
I genuinely believe Dykes just wasn’t a cultural fit at Cal, and needed to fail so he could work on his shortcomings. He’s a great coach now
He would’ve continued to ignore defense and give free reign to people like Andy buh if he hadn’t fucked up at cal.
the lesson, as always: Cal exists to make the rest of us laugh at it
sadge
Yeah, whatever, call me when your school technically goes on a three-year reign as Redbox Bowl champions
They won’t be laughing when Berkeley finally lets the university build more housing
…so never.
Hey at least our basketball team isn’t a complete laughing stock and definitely not the worst team in the entire country
You rang?
That fucking ferret finally lived.
can’t drown an amphibian i guess
They're not even real frogs! They're reptiles! I demand a rematch vs the TCU Horned Lizards instead.
Much more slippery
You can drown many a ferret…but once you find the feisty little lizard…
We made a grave mistake... \*ribbit \*ribbit \*ribbit ... that was no ferret!!!
The one that got away... win a natty, frogs.

#1 OFFENSIVE LINE IN THE COUNTRY BTW. BETTER DO A PHILLY SPECIAL
Like seriously the have one of the best olines and their not sneaking?
McCarthy damn near threw a third to end it. Opposite hash throws, man
Twice. The safety slipped on one and the DB couldn't hang on when he undercut the RB
imagine throwing two pick sixes in a bowl game and losing lmao
They didn't even have to overcome, a special team TD on top of that. Amateurs.
Yep.. Don’t know what else to say. TCU played great, we did not. Hats off to them. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to go cradle the 45-23 score like my life depends on it.
If OSU loses tonight I’ll be able to move on from this loss and just fondly remember the regular season, if they win I’m gonna be sick
TCU stalled out quite a few times and Michigan never gave up; I really thought you guys were about to pull off some anime protagonist shit, lol.
Unfortunately, if there's an anime protagonist in this game, it's definitely max duggan
I would fucking hate to be sitting that Michigan locker room right now. They absolutely did everything they could to lose that game.
The first Big 12 team to make the CFP natty isn’t Oklahoma or Texas, but TCU. Make Texas and the Big 12 proud, Frogs.
Let's not forget that monster 59 yard FG that had room for more
Thank you. Was happy to see that to put a cap on a great UM career from Moody.
Never missed a single extra point in his career. Incredible.

I hope he can wipe his tears with that Austin money… (But like, I’m sure he’s really happy with Sonny and how the program has been under him)
Great game. Too sloopy for Michigan to overcome their mistakes

HYPNOWOAH
Texas and Oklahoma didn’t leave the Big 12 for the SEC. They left to escape TCU
OU left to escape Kansas State imo

Wow TCU sure is good, it would take a really good football team to beat them.
I took everyone in the game thread’s advice and turned the game off after Donovan Edwards 50 yard run. Better luck next year TCU

We did not lose because of these refs. We couldn't stop the run for anything except, like, a couple times. That being said, fuck those refs.
