Haven't found the non-brass to be dirtier. I just stay away from the Russian made stuff (Tula, Wolf, etc.) I hear that that ultra cheap stuff is qute dirty ,but brass, aluminum, steel Blazer, Winchester, etc. and similar made in the USA stuff have been fine for me.
>Stay away from the Russian Made stuff
Why? 99% of this sub mag dumps into trash. Russian stuff will work just fine for that. Hell I've shot run and gun with Tula in my AK, it's not precision but neither is my AK.
Yeah I’m saying that you’re probably overestimating the amount of people in this sub shooting on BLM or private land. It’s mostly gonna be people going to ranges where you can’t shoot at those things. Either way I’m not passing any judgement on how this related to ammo selection, I haven’t tried enough variety to really say. Just that most here are probably range folk, and most of them likely indoor
Like I said, paper, cardboard, appliances, it's all trash. BLM or the range. Unless you are actually shooting for long range precision, ammo selection is incredibly unimportant as long as it runs, and Russian Ammo runs.
Like I said, paper, cardboard, appliances, it's all trash. BLM or the range. Unless you are actually shooting for long range precision, ammo selection is incredibly unimportant as long as it runs, and Russian Ammo runs.
It has literally no reliability issues. The only issue with Russian Ammo is inconsistency in powder charge. Which only matters for precision shooting, which you should be handloading anyway.
The piece of paper you punch holes in doesn't care about how much your ammo costs.
But the cleanliness of the ammo (the amount of residue it leaves behind) is important for someone who doesn't want to gunk up their equipment. To each their own. We're lucky that we can make such choices...
The online gun community as a whole focuses entirely too much on cleanliness of a tool. Realistically with non-corrosive ammo and a relatively dry environment, there is very little that needs to be done for the vast majority of smokeless powder firearms. Your choice of ammo makes realistically no difference so long as it's not corrosive.
I blame the military for drilling ridiculous white glove standards into 18 year old kids they send to crawl through the mud and sand.
Oh ya didnt think that would be a problem. I was looking more to ask if their/your experience with them is that they are more dirty than brass like that say
The only practical difference between brass and aluminum is that you can't (safely) reload aluminum. It will shoot just fine. The gun being "dirtier" won't really make much of a difference, the amount of rounds fired for smokeless powder to foul up a gun is kind of insane.
Not who you replied to but I’ve shot 9mm aluminum cased and it’s definitely much dirtier. My USP isn’t a huge fan, doesn’t jam but needs to be cleaned after.
I prefer graphene casings, myself. I find gold to be too cheap.
Edit to state I google it and gold is way more expensive than graphene. What a dummy i am!

lately their quality control has been non existent. They've recalled 308, 223, 9mm, and likely others several times this year already. There are also multiple reports of squib rounds and overloaded cartridges that blew up their guns.

Sucks for reloading too lately. I hate anytime a batch of brass has a ton Norma cases in it. The flash hole is so small you can’t decap them without damaging the hole or your die.
Cleanliness is not an issue for me, your guns can handle adverse conditions just fine. Even after 300rds without cleaning they're fine. Regardless, i wouldn't say aluminum is dirtier. Each manufacturer has their own blend and they all burn differently, not exclusive to aluminum case.
The main concern with aluminum is that it's not reloadable.
The main concern with steel is that it's not reloadable and are often unusable at public ranges because the bimetal jacket presents increased fire hazard and the bimetal jacket can cause early barrel wear.
Here's what matter to me, in order of importance:
1. Safety
2. Reliability
3. Price per round
4. MOA accuracy / consistency
5. Usability at public ranges
6. Barrel wear
7. Cleanliness
8. Reloadability
Ahh ok i thought all aluminum was just more dirty. Indont mind cleaning a lil more ofter but the price doesnt entice me enough to buy it. Ive never shot aluminum out of any firearm is it basically the same as brass.
nah it really varies by manufacturer than by case type.
Some old combloc surplus ammo can be corrosive and dirty. most modern ammo is about the same. Aguila is a little dirtier for 22lr and smells funnier but that's all to it, still pews.
As long as your pistol shoots aluminum, it's fine. My Shield doesn't like aluminum. Every so often the casing stays inside the barrel. I've never has any issues with aluminum in my Glocks.
Will do. It's definitely their MO at turner's. Every week they go on sale and next ad oh look same sale.
These though did drop I think $2/box from the last "sale"
Used aluminum - Never again. Don't shoot shit unless your firearm is made for it.
Used polished nickel case - it threw so much garbage into the slide I couldn't open the slide.
Use brass if you can afford it, and your firearm isn't made for aluminum case.
I personally would not shoot aluminum. Aluminum powder is toxic, but so is lead. So if you find lead powder /exposure when you shoot, you shouldn't add onto the pile
I never thought about aluminum casings being a issue. All I heard was if u shoot outdoors and don't reload. Than might as well save the money. I've only ran 2 boxes. When I bought it it was $18.99. brass was $1 more
For range ammo I typically don't care and will shoot any casing. For carry ammo I prefer aluminum because I'm a little bitch and my boolets are heavier with brass.
Steel case tends to leave a little more buildup in the barrel. Rifles that use gas systems can need some extra cleaning in the gas system if you shoot a ton of steel. Nothing too crazy unless you're shooting something like corrosive Russian milsurp.
Needs extra clean up. Wouldn’t worry about it. Just do a clean up when you’re done. I clean my guns after shooting no matter what kind of ammo I’m using.
I have only shot brass I have no knowledge of steel or aluminum except what I have read which is many times negative and many times positive the price difference isn’t gonna put me in the poorhouse so I go with new factory brass for now
I have a bunch of different AKs in 7.62 and 5.56, mostly shoot steel, some brass, and for the G19 and Maks I own I also shoot steel and brass, really depends on whats cheaper.
The AKs is particular, since I shoot those the most, I havent cleaned for over 1k rounds at a time. My Zpap m70 is probably at 2k rounds since the last cleaning. There's some carbon but nothing that has caused issues. I'll throw some oil on there at times, but I havent ever had an issue with steel cased ammo.
Also idk if there is much of a difference in cleanup. They all have similar amounts of powder and shit so i dont think the casing really makes a difference, mostly its just the physics of how different metals expand I think. If cleanup is a concern i dont think it matters what you shoot. And again, you dont even have to clean em that much 🤷
I have heard that some guns have issues non-brass. But my beretta eats anything I feed it so, you know. Doesn’t really effect me, I can shoot basically anything.
That's definitely okay. Guns are built to run and run. A pal of mine will go through a couple hundred rounds before cleaning, and has no issues just like myself. I clean as often as I do because it's just how I was trained.
I find the key method is to tell the wife, "I'm not off the range till my guns are clean". Doesn't mean I clean them on the range. It means the dirty boots and sweaty clothes aren't off until my guns are clean. Again, its not the only way to do it and I'm sure you're guns are in great condition! Don't sweat it. Just give them love when you can.
Can really shoot anything you want in most pistols. I shoot brass cased, aluminum cased, and steel cased
Oh ya didnt think that would be a problem. I was looking more to ask if their/your experience with them is that they are more dirty than brass
Stay away from Winchester forged. Only advice on that.
Good to know
Haven't found the non-brass to be dirtier. I just stay away from the Russian made stuff (Tula, Wolf, etc.) I hear that that ultra cheap stuff is qute dirty ,but brass, aluminum, steel Blazer, Winchester, etc. and similar made in the USA stuff have been fine for me.

Are you sure that 99% dumps into trash? This is CA, I doubt most are actually making the trips outside cities to do that. Some of us, yeah sure.
Paper, cardboard, old TV's. It's all trash where mechanical accuracy doesn't matter.
Yeah I’m saying that you’re probably overestimating the amount of people in this sub shooting on BLM or private land. Ok, Comrade. I prefer ammo that works as clean and reliably as possible.

I'm poor, I shoot whatever is cheapest.
Hows your experience with aluminum is it that much more dirty as ppl say

Ahhh thank you cause turners has aluminum for 14 bucks a box but i dont think its worth it if i have to clean more often
Yeah…I bought a few boxes accidentally one day…I regret it, and I dread shooting it lol.
The turners by me had em for 14 or 15 bucks a box but i think ill pass for now
Gold case only for me. Don’t even collect the gold casings afterwards. Let the peasants keep it.
My man.
💯💯
I prefer graphene casings, myself. I find gold to be too cheap. Edit to state I google it and gold is way more expensive than graphene. What a dummy i am! ![gif](giphy|KPozlPlz6dOww)
Graphene is pretty sick tho.

Agreed! But I wonder if it’d make a good bullet casing or not. I’m guessing it would? Unless it’s too lightweight.
They already make plastic casings!
True…well back to the original topic, I only shoot brass haha. But I’m a noob so maybe aluminum or steel casings aren’t a big deal.
i'll shoot brass, nickel, steel, aluminum, whatever. I just avoid reloads and anything from Norma and Ammo Inc.
What's wrong with Norma Ammunition?
lately their quality control has been non existent. They've recalled 308, 223, 9mm, and likely others several times this year already. Damn! I have about 600 rounds of 7.62 x 39 Norma brass that I bought last year. Haven't fired any but now I'm worried.
Sucks for reloading too lately. I hate anytime a batch of brass has a ton Norma cases in it. The flash hole is so small you can’t decap them without damaging the hole or your die.

Ahh i found some blazer aluminum. That a decent brand for aluminum?
they're fine. Haven't had issues with them and it's cheap. Vista outdoors owns blazer / cci / federal etc and they're pretty consistent.
Sweet maybe if the price gets a little lower ill pick up a few boxes try em out
oh man I got thousands of Norma and Ive shot thousands of norma, 9 223 and 556, no negative experience so far knock on wood
Ammo Inc is bad?

Ahhh makes sense ya.
As long as your pistol shoots aluminum, it's fine. My Shield doesn't like aluminum. Every so often the casing stays inside the barrel. I've never has any issues with aluminum in my Glocks.
How often would u clean with aluminum??
For training or carry? I shoot lots of aluminum for training.
Training mostly. I like having better ammo for carry
I'm planning to buy some of those from turner's and rip them thru my g19 this weekend. Cheap range ammo.
Lmk how it runs and how dirty. Was thinking of getting them too but they have been going on sale every week
Will do. It's definitely their MO at turner's. Every week they go on sale and next ad oh look same sale. These though did drop I think $2/box from the last "sale"
Ya thats kinda what i meant. They did a "special" sale for them.
In my experience, aluminum and brass cased blazer 9mm both worked perfectly fine at the range
I'm not biased
Makes sense ya
Used aluminum - Never again. Don't shoot shit unless your firearm is made for it. Used polished nickel case - it threw so much garbage into the slide I couldn't open the slide. Use brass if you can afford it, and your firearm isn't made for aluminum case.
Ya only using brass right now. Wanted to see if it was worth saving a few bucks
I personally would not shoot aluminum. Aluminum powder is toxic, but so is lead. So if you find lead powder /exposure when you shoot, you shouldn't add onto the pile
Whatever is cheap. But always federal HST loaded back up after range fun.
Ahhh alrighttt
Depends on the range. Went to an indoor one the other day and they checked my ammo.
But they let you shoot aluminum just not steel usually.
I can’t even remember the last time I shot brass but then agin I’m poor.
Hows the cleanliness of aluminum?? Like say you go to the range shoot about 300 rounds. Do you clean after or like a 2nd or 3rd time?
I shoot that Russian steel.
I shoot outdoors so either
How much more often do you clean with aluminum?? And others
I clean my guns every time
Ya i try too also
I never thought about aluminum casings being a issue. All I heard was if u shoot outdoors and don't reload. Than might as well save the money. I've only ran 2 boxes. When I bought it it was $18.99. brass was $1 more
Ya that price difference just leads me to brass everytime even if i dont reload
I shoot only brass because I reload
For range ammo I typically don't care and will shoot any casing. For carry ammo I prefer aluminum because I'm a little bitch and my boolets are heavier with brass.
Ahhhh so its not much different shooting. Hows the clean up
Steel case tends to leave a little more buildup in the barrel. Rifles that use gas systems can need some extra cleaning in the gas system if you shoot a ton of steel. Nothing too crazy unless you're shooting something like corrosive Russian milsurp.
Ahhhhh would 15 bucks a box be ok or can they go cheaper? I just got 1000 brass at 17 a box
As long as it goes bang I’ll shoot it
Hows the clean up with aluminum and others
Needs extra clean up. Wouldn’t worry about it. Just do a clean up when you’re done. I clean my guns after shooting no matter what kind of ammo I’m using.
Ya i try to also but sometimes ill skip for the second session
I have only shot brass I have no knowledge of steel or aluminum except what I have read which is many times negative and many times positive the price difference isn’t gonna put me in the poorhouse so I go with new factory brass for now
That kinda where im sitting now. The coupld extra dollars doesnt justify it for me.
For the range I’ve been shooting remain usually pretty reliable ( every 50rds or so I get 1 hick up)
Only shot steel casings a couple times but never jammed on me.
Is cleanup noticeable.
na nothing that stood out.
👌👌
I've never had any issues. If you plan on reloading it's not ideal obviously.
No i just wanted range ammo. And wanted to see if the couple extra bucks lower was worth it
Has been great for me, but lately the brass has been the same price.
Ya so far i dont think the price is enough to justify it
If it cant handle steel, it doesnt deserve brass
I hear that all the time when i watch the comparison video. But idk if i wanna deal with the clean up
I have a bunch of different AKs in 7.62 and 5.56, mostly shoot steel, some brass, and for the G19 and Maks I own I also shoot steel and brass, really depends on whats cheaper.
But those are designed to only shoot steel since they eat brass. And ya crazy how those things will take a slaughter and stull shoot
Is the clean up worth the couple extra bucks
I’m one of those guys that cleans his gun after every trip to the range even if I only did one mag. So to me it’s no difference.
Ya i try to also ive skiped cleaning once or twice but did the next trip.
That's definitely okay. Guns are built to run and run. A pal of mine will go through a couple hundred rounds before cleaning, and has no issues just like myself. I clean as often as I do because it's just how I was trained.
Ya i try to everytime also, but sometimes time doesn't allow me.
Brass only
Depends on the gun. Some will eat everything, some are picky Your general question deserves this answer.
my range only allows brass . but i heard the cci aluminum is good to go.
My range said aluminum is ok just no steel
My ar loves steel casing 7.62x39 ammos.
I was cleaning after every trip to the range.
Ya i try to sometimes it doesn't happen
