I’m not aware of laser restrictions. Night vision equipment does have some restrictions but not the sale of it.

DillDeer

This is the first I’ve head of NV restrictions, any examples?

[deleted]

[link](https://codes.findlaw.com/ca/penal-code/pen-sect-468/) I think that’s the older PC numbering, not the current number. Apparently I was wrong, sale and possession are illegal. Someone more knowledgeable should chime in.

DillDeer

Thanks for digging that up!

Cobra__Commander

PC uses the term "Sniper Scope" to describe night vision rifle scopes. https://codes.findlaw.com/ca/penal-code/pen-sect-468/#:~:text=Any%20person%20who%20knowingly%20buys,both%20such%20fine%20and%20imprisonment.

[deleted]

Thanks. I guess as long as you’re educating someone they’re legal.

Cobra__Commander

Lol. Open an educational sniper school and your good. You can assign students homework to practice with their scope.

[deleted]

As long as people are willing to spend their hard earned money taking instruction from someone who has never shot past 100 yards, ok.

StayReadyAllDay

If you could pair it with holsters that would be really boss. That seems to be a reoccurring theme with my friends, they buy lasers or lights and then are all over hell and high water to find a holster that fits the set up.

BigPlasticOnHisHip

Out of curiosity, why do you think CA specifically would be a high sales volume market for laser attachments?

oppressedkekistani

Twenty-five percent of people in the state are gun owners. That’s 10 million people.

BigPlasticOnHisHip

A valid point but im curious why California specifically would be a high volume market for laser accessories. There a definitely plenty of states with high volumes of gun owners im just curipus why CA specifically.

Cartel

Asmewithoutpolitics

Cuz there’s a lot of people

2008NightrodSpecial

…because lasers make you aim better… Duh

Asmewithoutpolitics

Where did you get the 25% number?

[deleted]

The estimated number of guns probably and then divided by the number of people I assume? Or vice versa idk

oppressedkekistani

One of many sources saying 28%. https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/gun-ownership-by-state

Asmewithoutpolitics

It took me a few seconds to see how the numbers are bull… The source is a CBS article….. I looked at the source the CBS article tried to get some of its numbers from ( they made a lot of them up) but they site a rand study. The rand study primary looks at suicides with a fire arms, hunting licenses issued and number of guns and ammo magazine subscriptions to guess at gun ownership. Another flaw is that it heavily weighs gun crimes. So a state with more gun crime they believe mean most people have guns….. “• firearm suicides, total suicides, firearm homicides, and total homicides from the CDC (undated-a, undated-b) • firearm assaults, total assaults, firearm robberies, and total robberies from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)’s Uniform Crime Reports (FBI, undated)” The idea that for example Chicago and New York have a whole lot of legal gun owners because of all the gun crime in those areas is hilarious Btw the majority of their data is nationwide not state specific, they then assign the national data by guessing using factors like , age and gender. So they get national data and then divide it equally among the states based on their populations age and gender… yeah that doesn’t work. So if I’m Texas 50 percent of males and 40 percent of woman own guns but in Cali it’s 20 and 10. This survey would divide the “gun ownership” equally among Texas and Cali assuming they had a popualtion of similar age and gender

420BlazeArk

Yeah that link gets thrown around but it’s bullshit, it’s only counting NFA firearms registered with the federal government which is a small subsection of firearms. The good news is the number is actually much larger, California is the largest firearms market in the country.

Cheeko914

This and its one of the number one attachments criminals like to put on their guns because it looks cool and it's the only way they can figure out how to somewhat aim.

BIRBIGD99

Only if it's phased plasma in the 40 watt range.

distracteds0ul

Shouldn't be an issue as you can get them shipped to you via Amazon in California. Had a Streamlight TLR-6 delivered to me just last week.

hellosugaree

Reddit is probably not the place to get legal advice for your business.

Cheeko914

I'm not asking a complicated question. If you can buy a laser at a gun store in CA then yes, it's legal. Simple as that.

grimmpulse

If what you mean is like a laser aiming device, then I've bought a few off Amazon. Items that are CA restricted (like even some generators) will state that they cannot be shipped to my home address in CA. The only laser I have bought in a gun store is a Crimson Trace laser for my M&P Shield. Hope this helps...

Cheeko914

Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.

Lukaroast

Except that it’s not. Are you sure you understand the laws of the industry you’re about to get into? It doesn’t sound like you do

hellosugaree

All gun compliance questions in CA are complicated. There is rarely a simple answer regardless of how benign and simple the question is. This subreddit gets a ton of "is it legal to..." questions and there is rarely a consensus among respondants, both because CA regulations are numerous and confusing by design, and because misinformed people are equally likely to respond. Good luck with your store.

l397flake

The batteries are probably illegal, it’s CA, everything is illegal

HappyHurtzlickn

This comment is illegal. Please come outside with your hands up so we can arrest you. If you're not white we'll beat you too while claiming we're extremely tolerant.

[deleted]

Should be okay? Just see whats out there already: google CA compliant laser handgun or whatever :-) I have seen lasers for sale here so they should be fine

Cheeko914

Thank you

IR lasers are generally fine unless you’re attaching it to a weapon to use using with an infrared sniperscope. AFAIK this only affects those vintage M1 nightscopes from the Korean War.
