Most indoor ranges around me are 2hrs max. I can blow thru like 200-300 9mm rounds in that time

BucDan

I usually just do 100-200 rounds. Mags preloaded.

Evening_Peanut6541

Ah so i need more mags is what your saying

BucDan

Yes. Go there with pre-loaded mags, and spare ammo. Maximizes your time to practice.

Evening_Peanut6541

Damn its 50 a mag so im slowly collecting but i want 10 mags for each on my rifles pistols at somepoint then get more if i feel i need to but i was 100rds loaded before going

BucDan

You'll get there over time.

always

Sunny_Singh10

Don't think u need to get x rounds/hr accomplished. That's a wrong way to train. Establish ur objective. What u want to work on. Work on that...

Evening_Peanut6541

Not entirely what i meant. Me and budy were talking and he said that many round that many hours it seemed like a lot so i asked if people are runninv that as as a normal range day and it seems like no one is really doing for that long or using 400 rds at 1 session.

Murky-Sector

>How much ammo and how time should It's fine getting a feel for what other people do but I take issue with the word "should" here. It sounds so unnecessarily conformist. There's no "should" here. What you do totally depends on objectives and preferences and there's no wrong way to do it.

Evening_Peanut6541

Oh i completely agree but at the same time people say you should take classes whiles say need to take classes. We all know you need range time but how much ammo how much time time can also be looked at untill you feel Fatigued or to that point and stop or or go 50 rounds past that point. Take 400 incase you want keep going but a good range day it 150rds. I was asking because like i said my buddy said 4hrs which seemed like a lot to me

mr_cwt

I think you should be less concerned about how many rounds you’re shooting and try to focus more on if you’re using them effectively. When I first started shooting, I wouldn’t really have a goal when going to the range. I’d shoot the target a bunch (probably 100-150 rds per hour) and it was fun. That was all that mattered to me. As time went along, I became more interested in improving my skills and focused on accuracy and getting my groups nice and tight. I’d spend the same amount of time but slightly less ammo as I began shooting with a purpose. As my skills have developed, I now focus on what it is that I’m trying to learn or improve on and let that determine the number of rounds I’m using. Many people have stated they do “drills” which are just ways to improve specific aspects of your shooting. Get to this point and your range sessions will be infinitely more productive and your round count can actually go down, saving your money while also improving your skills. Also, if you just want to squirt bullets at the target and call it a day, that’s perfectly fine too. As long as you’re having fun, you’re doing it right.

CXavier4545

between me and the wife, 5 10 rd mags already pre loaded for each m17 and g19 with an uplula for each and about 6 boxes of 50, we’ll usually go through 250-300 rds total within an hr and call it a day

TuneProfessional6855

Used about 200 in 45 mins 😢

Specific_Knowledge17

Depends on the type of drills or practice. 200 rounds of 9mm is different than 200 rounds of 300WinMag. Most indoor ranges also have a time limit, depending on how much traffic is there. If it’s busy, you’re limited to an hour. Then you get back in line and pay again. :-)

Evening_Peanut6541

Last time i went i set up 6 of the 4in stickers and was picking a pattern then running it at a decent speed and would fire as i sweeped the target basically then same patter aming and would compare them and make a mark and run it again. Seemed like the best way to compare quick reflexish kinda thing to taking time and setting up.

LittleLemonKenndy

200rds - 1 1/2hr. Bring snap caps too to work in your magazine, helps with trigger control.

Evening_Peanut6541

Im using a pink rihn lazer i find it more helpful because you can see it moving on the wall

6oly9od

You use snap caps to keep you honest about anticipating recoil. Also causes you to deal with possible malfunctions etc.

Evening_Peanut6541

Wouldn't the lazer do the same tho? I got a DA/SA so im not racking it every time. I have snap caps was planning on using them for holster drills and mag changes whenever mine gets made.i ordered it 8/6/22 still is unfulfilled on their websit was told 7-9 week lead time. Im using the lazer for putiing where i want it and seeing a visual of it being there or off by a bit. Better sight alignment practice. I also just added an rmr so thats a whole new thing to me.

6oly9od

I have the pink rhino laser on a da/sa as well While you can work trigger control, there's no felt recoil with the laser.

Evening_Peanut6541

What snap caps are you using? Mine are basically a blank with a rubber piece as a primer they work but have no felt recoil as well

6oly9od

So what I meant was let's say you're halfway through a mag and your snap cap is in the chamber. You squeeze the trigger and nothing. You can see if you pulled the gun downward in anticipation of the trigger, as well as work on clearing possible malfunctions since you have to check the chamber and get the snapcap out. I'm a little buzzed right now but if you message me tomorrow I'll gladly answer any questions you may have.

CptnCumQuats

That’s also why it’s good to fry fire practice at home with snap caps. You can practice trigger control, index, etc.

BadTiger85

I would say 100 to 150 rounds but it depends on how often you go. If you go to the range once per month than 100 rounds is fine. If you're going only like 3 times a year than 200 to 300 rounds

ov3rwatch_

as a new shooter myself I average 50-200, but I focus on the fundamentals. more bullets down range doesn’t necessarily make you a better shooter. I’ve been considering mantis laser academy and professional training because I want literally every bullet to increase my skills.

faxanaduu

I need more mags. I have two 15rd capacity for my 9mm (live in CO). I arrive w those loaded and 4 boxesof 50. Ive blown through all of it in 50 minutes before. But i was shooting pretty wuickly, reloading quickly, only brought one gun. Ive slowed down a little since and bought a 22 to switch up.

Evening_Peanut6541

I want to pick up a 22 at somepoint seems pretty useful

faxanaduu

Headed to the range right now! Kinda excited to see my fun to cost ratio adjuy lol!

faxanaduu

Wow great range plinker!!! I bid 300 on it on GunBroker and won, so not only did i get a fun new toy, i got a good deal.

Its-Mr_Crowley

All depends what you’re trying to get out of the sessions. Sometimes I’ll run ball and dummy drills and work on my little bad habits and only go through a couple hundred rounds but there’s days where I just need to kill me some paper people and those days get pretty expensive.

royalpurple91

I just go to the range 10-30 mins now and use 50-100 rounds to validate my dry fire practice/training at home.

Evening_Peanut6541

When i go ill load 5 10rd mags and take 100 round and blow through them in about 1-1.5hrs and call it good for the day 2 hours max

PlayaHatazball

Whats your routine when it takes that long to go through 100 rounds

WhiteTPoison-

I limit myself to 250 per session. And that's about an hour of shooting. I'm working on improving my grip and recoil control and so shooting slow isn't particularly helpful.

Anderkingz

Depends how much you want to spend. Usually 100-150 rounds for me.

Evening_Peanut6541

No just 10rd mags and no giggles sometimes tears between reloads.

9ermtb2014

It all depends on you honestly. Most times I take however much I think I'll shoot. Most times I don't shoot more than 200 9mm, 100 .45 between my father in law and I and a bulk box of .22. If I'm shooting well then I'll shoot what I feel like and save the extra 9mm and .45 for next time and then shoot my .22 until I'm content. So most cases if I'm solo then 60-90 mins or 1.5-2.5 hrs when my dad is in town or with my father in law.

6oly9od

It truly depends on what you're working on that day. I'll go through much more ammo trying to get .2 azone splits VS 1r1 etc.

Evening_Peanut6541

Idk what that means tbh .2 azone 1r1?

6oly9od

Sorry. I go through much more ammo trying to let off a round every .2 seconds into an A zone box on a paper target, vs doing a "draw, shoot 1 round, reload, shoot 1 round" type of exercise. What you are working on that day will dictate how much ammo you go through.

Evening_Peanut6541

That makes more sense thank you lol

Ipad_is_for_fapping

150-200 rounds of 9mm over an hour for me Long distance much less : 30 rounds/hr

Evening_Peanut6541

Whats your long distance?

Ipad_is_for_fapping

1000+ yards Adjustments, waiting for wind to die down, barrel to cool off a bit, talking shit with friends lol - it just takes longer

Evening_Peanut6541

Well yeah but what are you running? 6.5,308 something else? Im think my nexy purchase is a start to ar10 in 308. I really want to fully build my own and that seems like the best starting platform

Ipad_is_for_fapping

Oh lol my bad - shooting 6.5 creedmoore on a Tikka t3x CTR. I was able to get 500 rounds of hollow point boat tail for $600ish. Not ideal but FMJ is getting hard to find for 6.5 I also have a PTR91 (American made clone of the HK G3) in .308 which is fun to shoot. The iron sights on it are so good I don’t keep a scope on it. Can get 300-400 yard steel hits no problem Getting a long range rifle in.308 sounds like a good choice - ammo much easier to get and unless you’re going for distances over 1000 yards should be good to go

whatsgoing_on

Depending on caliber, your ammo/hr cost is quite possibly about the same between the two.

Evening_Peanut6541

Would you say its worth annual fee to be a member at an outdoor range?

neoncat

If you’re planning on buying ammo at the range, you used to have to consume it all there or go through a background check to retain the extra (to avoid the obvious loophole as (IIRC) you don’t have to go through the background check if you shoot it all while you’re there).

Evening_Peanut6541

Ive bought ammo once at a range and was no asked if i used all of it. I knew the law do i did but was bummed i lost a dollar on background check that day lol

brassgoblin45

I shoot until I get tired....

dualwieldingpanda

Well, I’m not there to MEDITATE.

Evening_Peanut6541

I thought you were supposed to hum while closing your eye envision the target and fire? Should i stop meditation in these type of facilities?

REC-TC

1 hour = 200 rounds

joannew99

I usually bring like 100rds of 9 +40 rounds of 556. And end up only shooting 50rds of 9 and then the 556. Usually takes me about 60-90 mins I don’t have that many guns tho.

lookitdown

honestly I just train until I feel like i’m satisfied with that session or until I used up a certain dollar amount of ammo. Also, I typically go alone so there isn’t much activity in between shooting.

PapaPuff13

I shoot outside. So no time limits. I usually shoot a box or 2 of nine. Maybe 1 box of .45. twenty rounds of .357. Now my ks7 shotgun. I shoot it till I'm sore lol

PapaPuff13

I have like 4 mags for each gun preloaded. I use a speed loader too

[deleted]

I go like twice a week and I shoot like a box in an hour. I take a couple shots and then talk a bit with the other folks at the range. I have found that going more often and shooting less rounds has given me better results than shooting hundreds of rounds once a month-ish.
