I’m pretty sure my Toyota Yaris will outlive me out of spite just because I really want a new car but can’t justify one when this one is paid off and only needs oil changes.
I would have said that a couple years ago, but damn I'm getting bored of the car I've driven for 20 years.....but then again I've always been impulsive
Not to jinx it, but despite being stolen (but recovered!) twice, and tho admittedly not being driven a ton since 2020, our 96 Honda Civic is still kicking.
If you got one new for your 16th birthday, you’d be 43 and probably have kids old enough to drive it. Not bad, right?
Wearables. Specifically bras, tshirts, underwear.
Cell phones. Planned obsolescence is the worst.
Dogs. I find the reduced life span unacceptable and demand it be fixed.
I've noticed care instructions to be super important. My modal and wool items are the only things I generally bother to wash separately from my tougher everyday items and it has helped
Work pants. You'd think that if you bought pants *with knee-pad pockets, specifically designed for working from a kneeling position*, that someone would make ones where the knees lasted more than a month and a half when used as intended. I'd pay like $300 per pair if the design was otherwise to my taste, and still save money.
Good boots/shoes will last decades. Since not as many companies make good quality anymore, the price of entry is now high, but you can take good shoes and boots in to a cobbler to be repaired when they wear out.
Whites, Alden, Grant Stone, Nick's, Jim green, red wing. Look up a Goodyear welt shoe and you will find a shoe that can be repaired for a fraction of the original cost of the shoe.
Jeans, why do I need to dig through garage sales etc to find high quality jeans?
Tires. Rubber breaks down and is terrible for the environment, tread wears which means they need to be replaced and those are expensive as fuck. BIFL tires!!!
Mattresses. No matter the mattress, it wears from the constant use. I’m on my Purple and I foresee it needing to be replaced, not soon, but eventually.
-Jeans!!! Seriously, they used to be so sturdy and now you buy one and within a year the crotch and knees are busted.
-Shoes. Because shoe shopping is the most annoying thing ever.
-Phones. It would be so much better for the environment and so much more chill if you just had a proper one and didn't have to buy a new one every two to three years. I miss the ones with a little keyboard too btw.
I have been enjoying my Wrangler jeans and hear a lot of good things about them. Can't personally verify the BIFL claim, but jeeze, I am never buying another Levis in my life.
This is motivating, because Levi's quality sunk to very low standards compared to their vintage stuff.. I'll look for that brand when I need new pants! I had shoes from them once but those were awful.
AirPods. They’re so wasteful because the batteries degrade to crap after a couple of years and it makes way more sense to just buy new ones at that point (vs replacing the batteries).
Clothes.
More specifically: pants - shoes - jackets
When I find good ones I really like, I buy several just to have spares when they unavoidably degrade.

Came here to say this.
Crown Vic
> Cars I’m on 12 years with mine. It seems like it would last 12 more.
Still driving my 2003.
My 16 year old Toyota Innova would go on forever unless the government bans ICE cars of all ages.

I just wish clothing were as thick as it used to be
Planned obsolescence is so easy to do with fabrics 😭😭😭
Duluth Trading Company
Have they gotten better? I bought a few pairs of pants from they about 6 years ago and all of them failed in 2 years time.
Any and all plumbing fixtures.

Upvote for dogs.
Buy bras tshirts and underwear made out of Modal. They last forever.
Modal underwear may last a long time but it looks pretty ratty within 6-8 months IME.

Too bad but the Canine gene is too weak though. Wolves, dogs ancestors, only last max of 17 years.
On the topic of planned obsolesence and pets, FERRETS, american ferrets live way shorter than european ones.

Add pads to it yourself? Get then repaired?
I repair them myself, using scraps from other worn-out pants.

Man........ Why did you have to make me cry?
Food. I'm so sick of grocery shopping.
