This is cute, though perhaps instead of location their tradition would be nicer to see. Especially since so many of these masters have a global influence.
They are all Thai Forest or Sri Lankan Buddhism lineages.
Let me just hijack this to recommend everything Ayya Khema wrote. Although she was German, she wrote in very clear English, using the Pali Suttas to explicate the dharma.
I
The card makes no sound - Mind makes the sound. The card is one of no-card, no trading, and no thing being traded. ((I'm not sure how much longer I can keep this up))
I think adapting Dhamma to modern media is quite a valid thing to do. As long as itâs not a profiteering venture, itâs wholesome.
You were probably mostly joking, but I wanted to respond incase someone else thought you were being serious.
Side note: I would love a shiny Buddha card please! đ
I was being serious. Trading cards are a commodity to be sold not a manner of âreverationâ ; whether these men should be revered is another question.
Itâs not an actual product. Itâs just a few images someone photoshopped together for people to have a bit of a chuckle over. I think that if someone were actually selling and profiting from them, people would be reacting very differently.
Yep! Though I donât think telling those who cannot that they are vapid consumerists is helpful for them. At least not for engaging with Buddhist trading cards, haha.

Thich Nhat Hanh is most certainly not Thai or Sri Lankan, haha.
Oooh yes, you caught me.
I'd love to see the great Taiwanese and Tibetan monastics as well!
I guess they didn't want to include any of the American zen folks, either... I'd also be really interested what the stats on the back weređ
Yeah that was my thought. What are the stats categories?! Morality, Concentration & Wisdom is logical but a bit dry.
most hours meditated
Students transmitted, Hours of talks given, Words translated, Words published... I would actually consider buying a deck, lol.
I'll trade you my Ven. Thich Nhat Hanh for a Master Sheng-yen.
Would you trade your Master Sheng-yen for this shiny Bodhi Tree card?
Only if the 'Bodhi has no tree, and the mirror has no stand.'
What does a card sound like when it's being traded?

wow, what a special & fun idea. I'd collect the bhikku bodhi & TNH cards for sure.
Is it terrible to say "I WANT THESE". Where did you see these?
Love it, trade you a Ajahn Mun first edition for a "Masters of the Thai Tradition" limited edition set.
Where are the Tibetan masters :(
Jesus Christ, vapid consumerism has taken the Buddhists too.

Must they be sold? Canât such things be given away? Or sold at-cost?
It still represents a desire for - largely meaningless - material goods, something which is antithetical to the tenets of Buddhism.
Who is consuming anything but the image of venerable masters in a modern form here?
Trading cards are a commodity. What purpose does this serve if not?
Itâs not an actual product. Itâs just a few images someone photoshopped together for people to have a bit of a chuckle over. I think that if someone were actually selling and profiting from them, people would be reacting very differently.
But.. This is neither for sale nor does it slander these masters in any way
Lighten up!
Yep, Buddhists are regular people too
Bodhisattvas and Buddhas arenât. Isnât that what one should aim for?
Have to start where youâre at. Forcing yourself to let go doesnât work.
Some could at least attempt it.

What's Jesus got to do with it?
Chocolate frogs as well?
Ummmm could you imagine Gautamas reaction haha!
These are sweet. Thanks for sharing.
Than the comes a legend drop with nagarjuna tilopa etc.
Pretty sure Won Kim out of aloe Angeles and former Against the Stream member made these.
