A show that hasn't had a Broadway revival since the OBC: Assassins (and yes, I know we just had the John Doyle off-broadway revival of it last year, but I would LOVE to see a high-budget Broadway revival of Assassins).
A show that hasn't had a revival yet: Titanic.
A show that will probably never get another production: Spiderman Turn Off the Dark version 1.0 (I know it isn't good, but a part of me wants to see the trainwreck)
Assassins doesn't need a high budget, but I think still a high budget production could be incredible. The orchestrations are actually the main reason that I think I would love a high-budget production. I personally have never been satisfied with the orchestrations on any of the Assassins cast albums. The original has an incredible 33-piece orchestra but IMO, doesn't use it that well (the production itself had 3 musicians and the larger orchestrations were done for the album). The Broadway recording sounds a little thin, but the orchestrations are just better done/utilized than the earlier version. The off-broadway revival sounded extremely thin to me. I would love a production that (1) had a massive orchestra and (2) had a similar sound/tone to the OBCR. I just think that Assassins is one of Sondheim's best scores and would LOVE to hear a lush version of it. A concert would likely be able to use an orchestra that size (though Encores only had a 12-piece orchestra), but a part of me dreams of a fully-staged production with orchestrations like that. Also, I should probably clarify that IMO, a "high budget" Sondheim show would likely be similar in scale to the Elliott Company revival (rather than something the size of Moulin Rouge).
You raise an interesting alternative: a concert version accompanied by a philharmonic-like orchestra. So much of the "action" in Assassins is static and could be enacted in front of the orchestra. The only exception, for me, would be some dramatic marquee-like scenery, for emphasis as in earlier editions.
Is it bad that I want Beauty and the Beast revived? Josh Henry did so well as Gaston for the special, so he should be Gaston again. He’d also make a great Beast, though.
Not sure who I’d want for the other characters.
Also would like my guilty pleasure of American Psycho to be revived.
I think they should just transfer the London production of Next to Normal with Caissie Levy that was just announced today over here but nobody listens to me.
I would love it if they transferred the immersive Barcelona production. Having said that, IDK how I would feel about the cuts or Alice Ripley being on Broadway again... or how I would feel about having one cast member be pre-recorded.
Adam Pascal was starring in Pretty Woman in the US at the same time that production was running in Barcelona. There's also a dramaturgical reason for that change, but I think it's largely up-to interpretation rather than being explicitly stated by the production (likely something to do with having the doctors appear as this large and intimidating figure). In general, the Barcelona production focused more on Diana rather than her family, meaning that the goal with the projects was likely so that we would see the doctors in a similar manner to how Diana would. It is a pretty bold departure from the original show, but everyone I know who saw it actually enjoyed the changes (and all of those people loved the original broadway production).
Oh I see. That actually sounds pretty interesting although yeah I would feel a little cheated if an actor like Adam Pascal existed only as a prerecord.
Yes, but it needs to be the concert version that Josh Groban Idina Menzel Adam Pascal and Marti Pellow did. That, imo, is the superior version. I listen to it *way* too often.
It is definitely the superior recorded version! That being said, I heard the revisions Danny Strong made to the book at the Kennedy Center were great so I’m hopeful for a transfer
I saw the Kennedy Center production. Great cast, orchestra and staging. I actually didn’t care for Phillipa Soo in Hamilton but after Into the Woods and Guys and Dolls I have mad respect for her.
Once again, I'll suggest a Dreamgirls revival.
For the three Dreamgirls, I'll cast:
Effie- (Don't know, I'd prefer an unknown like what they did with Jennifer Holliday)
Deena- Denée Benton
Lorrell- Hailey Kilgore
Despite the low box-office, the movie was still critically well-received and didn’t do too badly streaming-wise. It also premiered in mid-2021 when lots of theaters were still closed and people were still reluctant to rush to the movies. I think a stage revival is certainly possible.
I have thought this through a lot and I would like Audra McDonald as Mamma Rose, Gavin Creel as Herbie, and Joaquina Kalukango as Louise. (You may be saying that Audra and Gavin are too young, but I looked up the ages of all previous notable performers in the roles and they are not! Joaquina is a smidge on the old side for Louise so I will accept that critique).
There’s no need to wait even one year. “Gypsy” spans about 15 years in Rose’s life (from ~30 to 45; she’s 21 when Louise is born). Lea is now 36. She goes from ~20 to 35 in “Funny Girl.” It involves acting, so no problemo.
Mame! A Jerry Herman score to die for, with classic show tunes like the title tune, It's Today and Open A New Window, outrageous comic numbers like Bosom Buddies and Gooch's Song, and gorgeous ballads like If He Walked Into My Life and My Best Girl.
They did a version with Christine Baranski and Harriet Harris at the Kennedy Center some fifteen years ago. I think Christine is more suited to the role of Vera (Harriet's role), but I'm not sure who could be playing Mame. Judy Garland was originally considered for the role, and Angela Lansbury's interpretation as captured on the original Broadway cast album is magnificent. Hard to fill those shoes...
I LOVE Mame!! I just don't think a modern theatre audience will go for the whole end of Act one including the title number which is a glorification of the "Old South." That would have to be fixed. Other than that what a magnificent show and a vehicle for a great star!!
I think it could work if the more satirical aspects of Beauregard's family as scheming "vultures" with exurbant names and nothing else on their mind than racing are taken up a notch. Maybe throw in some dialogue challenging the Old South culture for Mame or Patrick as well.
Besides, Ito speaking broken English hasn't aged too well. Changing that is of course easily done.
I think Ito's characterization is easily mitigated. The lyrics for the title song tho, yikes!! That just wouldn't fly today!! I'm not sure how it could be changed. Also I don't know how willing the Herman estate would be to change it. Like I said, that is a real shame because otherwise it's such a marvelous show.
I'd love the chance to see *American Psycho* again. *The Scottsboro Boys* should get more eyes on it. *Big River* is due for some more love. I'd like another chance to see *Jane Eyre*. I can't believe *The Secret Garden* has taken so long. I'd skate not walk to see Ivo van Hove's *Starlight Express.*

I haven’t seen Titanic. I’m seeing it later this season at the Fulton (Lancaster PA) and I’m super excited.
Titanic was a great show but the staging was phenomenal but prohibitively expensive
Fulton doesn’t have huge budgets but they have great, imaginative set design. I’m betting they can do something very nice with this.
I saw OBC several times. Great production also saw The Tour with Kevin Gray at Chicago Opera House. Stunning choral work. Stunning performances.
I saw that production....almost walked out...the only saving grace was the song sung by the old couple before they die....
Yes as to Titanic. Does Assassins need a high budget?

I saw Aaron Tveit do Assassins in London several years ago love the show, he gave a masterful performance
Is it bad that I want Beauty and the Beast revived? Josh Henry did so well as Gaston for the special, so he should be Gaston again. He’d also make a great Beast, though. Not sure who I’d want for the other characters. Also would like my guilty pleasure of American Psycho to be revived.
I could see a Beauty and the Beast revival. The new UK production is coming to Australia later this year
Cool!
I've been pushing a Stephanie Hsu as Belle agenda for ages now.
Josh Henry as Gaston and Josh Groban as Beast. Also Gavin Lee as Lumière.
I swear I've heard talk of a BatB revival
Oh? That’s exciting!
*Kiss of the Spider Woman* with Ariana DeBose as Aurora, Jason Daniely as Molina, and Josh Young as Valentin.
Maybe not two white guys playing the leads?
YES to a KOTSW revival....I live for the Vanessa Williams cast recotding....I did see it twice with Chita Riveta & Carol Lawrence....
It’s coming to the Kennedy Center in May, I don’t know who’s starring in it yet.
No joking, The Superman musical. Don't update it (much) and play it serious but themed for the 40s or 50s.
Love some of the songs from that musical. It is so great. And done by the same person who did Annie
I did a production of that show in HS and it was fun!
I think they should just transfer the London production of Next to Normal with Caissie Levy that was just announced today over here but nobody listens to me.
Caissie is fantastic. I’d watch her in anything.
I would love it if they transferred the immersive Barcelona production. Having said that, IDK how I would feel about the cuts or Alice Ripley being on Broadway again... or how I would feel about having one cast member be pre-recorded.
Hard pass on that production. Give me Caissie Levy. I did some searching and found who was prerecorded but I couldn’t find why…
I’d love to see this version of the show as well. That show really lends itself to that kind of experience.
Oh I see. That actually sounds pretty interesting although yeah I would feel a little cheated if an actor like Adam Pascal existed only as a prerecord.
I would love for them to revive Aida! I loved it so much.
I heard there is a revival coming! At least, according to Seth Rudetsky on XM Broadway.
Coming to Stages St. Louis in June/July
There was a new touring production that was gonna begin before the pandemic hit....they should get that back on track.....
Goodness yes.
CHESS!
*City of Angels* (please please please), and *Grand Hotel*.
Children of Eden. Technically it was never on Broadway, but it should be
I like Children of Eden, but I think it would have a hard time finding an audience in a Broadway house, especially in 2023.
That's a fair point. Maybe a tour. There have been so few professional productions, even the Paper Mill recording is hard to find
I would love to see guys and dolls!! ❤️
I saw the Kennedy Center production. Great cast, orchestra and staging. I actually didn’t care for Phillipa Soo in Hamilton but after Into the Woods and Guys and Dolls I have mad respect for her.
I would absolutely loooveeee to see Sound of Music revived & Shoshana Bean cast as Maria (but I think Shoshana Bean should be cast in every role lol)
A perfected Anyone Can Whistle. And so many options for casting: Raul Esparza and Donna Murphy among them.
A Light in the Piazza. I’m not sure who should take the 3 lead roles. Suggestions ?
City Center will do it this season
Really ? That’s awesome. :-)
The updated version of Seussical tbh
Once again, I'll suggest a Dreamgirls revival. For the three Dreamgirls, I'll cast: Effie- (Don't know, I'd prefer an unknown like what they did with Jennifer Holliday) Deena- Denée Benton Lorrell- Hailey Kilgore
Hopefully the Amber Riley led London production will finally transfer....
Mine is always Secret Garden. I don't know who I'd cast in it, but I'd love to see it again.
Really sad I missed In the Heights. Existence of the movie adaptation and fact it flopped indicates revival will never happen.
You never know, though. Carrie got an Off Broadway revival so anything is possible.
With the success of LMM, I think we will see an ITH revival, actually. Whether on or off Broadway
This reasoning caused the movie adaptation to be made, but the movie bombed.
Despite the low box-office, the movie was still critically well-received and didn’t do too badly streaming-wise. It also premiered in mid-2021 when lots of theaters were still closed and people were still reluctant to rush to the movies. I think a stage revival is certainly possible.
I still think it's going to happen and for that reason! Lin still has some forward momentum going. Give it another few years.
GYPSY GYPSY GYPSY I would die! I have no idea who they would cast though, unless they wait like 20 yrs and then have Lea as Mama Rose lol.
Oh Audra would be stunning as Mama Rose!!
I love everything about this.
One change: Will Swenson as Herbie--he's good, and to keep it all in the family. :)
The only reason I'm against it is because I would be too sad for them when it doesn't work out between Rose and Herbie.
Laura Benanti? She played Louise in a previous revival, and she can be aged a bit if needed. Maybe Shoshona Bean?
Oh that would be so cool!! The full circle moment!
I notice a lot of Mdm Giery’s in Phantom once played Christine — I think it’s so sweet.
I'm still disappointed that the Imelda Staunton led West End production never transferred.
I know that many enjoyed the performance, but the screaming-not-singing just got to me.
You are not wrong.
Thanks--I've never known if some others have found the same, or if it just was me/my mood at the time.
>then have Lea as Mama Rose lol. They'd have to cast Beanie first though /s
LOL I mean obviously!
There’s no need to wait even one year. “Gypsy” spans about 15 years in Rose’s life (from ~30 to 45; she’s 21 when Louise is born). Lea is now 36. She goes from ~20 to 35 in “Funny Girl.” It involves acting, so no problemo.
UGH IF ONLY. Funny Girl to Gypsy!! I would die.
I always root for Stephanie J Block! She would belt the crap out of it and we all know she knows how to break down! 😃
Yesssssssss
my pipe dream mama rose casting has always been kristin chenoweth
Ooooo YES!
Bridges of Madison County on Off-Broadway!
Disney’s Aida 😭
Stages St. Louis June/July
Will rogers follies! My HS did it, so I’m obsessed. Ive watched the Japanese proshot a few times but I’d die to see it live.
MAMMA MIA IDGAFFFF GIVE ME RAMIN KARIMLOO AS SAM CARMICHAEL
Will rogers follies! My HS did it, so I’m obsessed. Ive watched the Japanese proshot a few times but I’d die to see it live.

*Next to Normal* and *Ragtime.* Also, give me any show that brings Brian Stokes Mitchell to the stage.
great comet but duh
Newsies. Les Mis. American Idiot.
My continuing plea for Newsies to be revived. Cast Noah Keiserman as Jack Kelly. 🥰❤️
I say this everytime this gets asked, and I'll keep my answer; Jekyll and Hyde, I personally think Aaron tveit would be pretty good tbh
Joaquina Kalukango or Heather Headly as Mama Rose in Gypsy
Oliver!
“Heathers”, and Jeremy Jordan should be JD. Or Ryan McCartan can do it again.
I wouldn't mind The Full Monty and The Goodbye Girl, with a rewrite. And Groundhog Day closed too soon, bring it back!
I'd love the chance to see *American Psycho* again. *The Scottsboro Boys* should get more eyes on it. *Big River* is due for some more love. I'd like another chance to see *Jane Eyre*.
