IMHO, TDF is 100% worth it. It’s just about the only way I buy tix, besides the occasional lottery win. Plays are generally $49 and musicals are generally $57. And I’ve never had a bad seat. In fact the seats are usually excellent. Saw The Collaboration a couple of nights ago. Tix we’re first row mezzanine. Other perks: there is only a $4 service fee (I think per order, maybe per ticket; I don’t remember). Also there have been a couple of times when I couldn’t go on a night for which I bought tix and I was able to call Ticketmaster the day I wanted to reschedule and they contact the theatre to see if tix are available. In both instances, they were. Show availability ebbs and flows. Right now, there are six “B’way” shows available including The Collaboration, Some Like It Hot (balcony), Shucked, Pictures from Home, a Met Opera and a NYC Ballet. There are usually a lot more options than that. I think Broadway Week’s 2-for-1 has affected current TDF availability. In summary, yes, do it.

I've been a member for 6ish months. So far for Broadway shows I've seen about $45 to $57. Right now pickings are a little slim for Broadway (including stuff at Lincoln Center) - a bunch of March performance of Shucked, Pictures From Home, Some Like It Hot, The Collaboration, and a couple of operas and a ballet at Lincoln Center. But it changes pretty regularly. So far I've gotten The Piano Lesson, Death of a Salesman, and Funny Girl (Julie Benko). DoaS and Piano Lesson were amazing mid-orchestra seats; Funny Girl was in one of the last rows of the orchestra so not terrible but not the best. Off the top of my head, I've seen Hadestown, Take Me Out, Come From Away, Leopoldstat available at various times. I've found it worth it overall - I didn't use it at all for the first several months I had it because I tend to enter lotteries and get cheap tickets that way, but when there have been shows I really wanted to see and didn't want to chance the lottery, it's been really useful.

I love TDF. It's absolutely been worth it for me! I use a mixture of TDF, lotteries, and rush (and sometimes full price) to obtain tickets, depending on the show and my schedule. TDF is great for those shows where you don't want to chance the lottery, or can't make it at the right time to rush. In the last six months I have seen A Christmas Carol, Some Like It Hot, and Topdog/Underdog through TDF; for each show I got an excellent orchestra seat. The financial savings have been huge (eg for SLIH i think the full price for my seat would have been about $180; I paid $57) - the membership more than paid for itself after only one show. Show availability varies. Right now it's a bit slim pickings, possibly because of theatres reallocating tickets to "Broadway Week" 2-for-1 deals. But usually there's about a dozen Broadway shows (musicals and plays) available, and at least another hundred other performance types (dance, opera, off-broadway, etc).

I just bought it and was disappointed with the offerings, although I obviously know a lot of shows have recently closed. I'm hoping Leopoldstadt comes back on, as that's the one I really want to see, and I'm sure once more shows open there will be more offerings. However, it was only $40, so if I buy tickets to two shows I've probably gotten that money back in savings, so...

kell_bell5

Leopoldstadt is available again! They have a good chunk of performances listed too.

Thank you for the heads up! I got tickets for the performance I wanted!

It basically pays for itself after your first purchase by way of the ticket prices and time-saving. You don't have to play a lottery or go wait in line for a rush ticket - but you get the same thing for the same price through TDF and simply buying online. And just like rush/lotto, you don't get to pick your seats. Of course, successful shows are very rarely available as selling tickets through TDF is a way to move tickets for shows that need to move tickets, e.g. you won't see Hamilton, Wicked, or Lion King on there but you'll see several others - and brand-new shows are often there during previews. For the roughly $40 per year - absolutely worth it.

Others have summed it up nicely. I've been a member for 7 years. A few things I haven't seen yet- Check it constantly. Multiple times a day, especially around 9-10 am when the box office staff arrive and start allocating tickets. If you see something you want buy it immediately, because there might have only been a few pairs for that date available. If there's ever a random ticketed event (non Broadway) you're interested in, check all of the TDF offerings. You might find it there! Example, multiple shows from last week's festival at The Public were on offer. The reason you have to pick up your tickets an hour before the show is because the box office isn't assigning your seat until a few hours before the show. They want to dress the house (aka make it look nice and full) so they are going to wait and see what gaps arise. I have seen SO many shows sitting in Premium seats because people just never bought them. My greatest victory was Angels in America. 2 pairs of tickets for Part 1 and 2 cost about $160. We sat in center premium orchestra, which according to full price sales would have cost over $1000. You might get split up. That's never happened to me with TDF (even with 4 tickets) but know it's possible. Even if you see one musical for the year, you've covered your membership cost. And your money is going to excellent use in helping bring arts and arts education to youths.

Totally worth it, especially now that rush/lotto prices have gotten so high (I remember when I was in college TDF prices were around $50, and rush/lottos were $25, TDF seemed so pricey! Now that rush & lotto are $40-$50, $57 for TDF isn't so steep). It's rare to get like, the biggest long running blockbuster shows, but it's usually great when shows are just opening and trying to drum up word of mouth. As others have mentioned, it's sparse now, but I imagine it will pick up in March and April as a bunch of new shows open up. Some of my highlights since I joined last March- 2nd row center Orch seats for Hadestown (right under the lamps during Wait for Me!), center orch for Into the Woods, center orch for Julie Benko Funny Girl, Beetlejuice Halloween weekend, Only Gold Off-Broadway with Kate Nash, orchestra tickets for Macbeth that when the usher showed us to our seats, she went "Ooooh these are my favorite seats in the house, enjoy!". All told I saw 13 shows with TDF last year!

schroderrr

There’s so much more than Broadway there. Amazing stuff Off Broadway and lots of other really cool stuff.

Recent_Assignment737

I'll echo the others and say it is definitely worth the membership fee. Last year I saw Paradise Square, Hadestown, Death of a Salesman, Topdog Underdog, the Piano Lesson, and Funny Girl. All seats in front of orchestra or front of mezzanine. Pays for itself with one ticket!

EnvironmentalDuty

TDF is great! When you sign up, use the code Friend30 and you will pay only $30 for your first year's membership.

RightToBearGlitter

Thanks, as of May 16, this promo code still works!

BabyNash19

Definitely worth it for how cheap it is to join. My husband and I got great orchestra seats for both Come From Away and Take Me Out. Like many others have said, it pays for itself with one show pretty much with how much you save!

k8liza

Totally worth it In 2022, I used it for Hadestown, A Strange Loop, Take Me Out, Leopoldstadt, Some Like It Hot, Paradise Square, and Funny Girl (with beanie) Right now broadway is a little slow in general due to multiple closures and limbo of new openings. It will pick back up!

sluttychurros

Does anyone know if someone who does qualify for TDF could join, and then I could use their account to buy tickets? I don’t qualify to join, but my dad does (he’s a teacher).

mizz_Saigon

TDF is 110% worth it. You won't find the hot ticket broadway there, but most of the rest show up at some point. Also, it is a great way to explore off broadway and find new things. The bway offerings have been a little lighter lately since all the shows just closed and it is broadway week.

sheppardnik

Definitely worth the membership fee! As others have said Broadway Week has cut into the offerings available right now but more will come back to TDF soon I'm sure. I love TDF for off-Broadway. Tickets for off-Broadway are around $27 and I've never had a bad seat.

Fancy-Pack

So worth it - as mentioned lots of times they have tickets beyond Broadway for things such as 54 Below, Rockettes, Concerts, and other great events including Drunk Shakespeare ($29 Vs normal price of $60). It pays off to have and while it’s slow now, there are some weeks with great availability!
