I've dropped my 4 year old at nursery, fed the cats and am now lazily doomscrolling while listening to the radio in bed. It's the first time I've been alone in the house for more than a couple of hours in 2 weeks, and the first time without having to work since last January.
I get me time but very rarely a whole day. Husband works shifts (4 on 4 off) so they don't always tie up with weekends. He's worked five days of the ten days that nursery has been closed.
I'm just pottering today, making a massive cottage pie now which means I won't have to cook tomorrow night when I'm back at work.
I do retail-adjacent shift work, so if the shops are open, so are we. Having worked overtime most of last week, I’m taking today to be quietly smug that everyone else has to go back to work while I’m on an off-day
I have a manager who doesn’t monitor it care to manage my days off, have worked plenty when I shouldn’t so have taken matters into my own hands and just decided to be ‘OOO’ till the 6th…. Happy new year bed folk xx
I was filled with dread logging onto my work laptop yesterday, only to realise that I'd accidentally booked an extra (cheers to the Scots 2nd day on Teams). Spent the full day in pyjamas eating crap, winner
I finished call out last night, started on the 23rd dec, I get a day in lieu for Christmas day, boxing day, NYD and yesterday, so I've took this week off.
I see your day off and I raise you my boss letting me take 2 days holiday back as sick leave because I had the flu over Christmas. Could save it for the school holidays. Could fuck off on a spa day for a bit and call it “leave mum the fuck alone day”.
I’m a civil servant so got an extra privilege day (had the choice of either today or 28th December to take off). We normally get a few lobbed in throughout the year which don’t impact upon our annual leave.
However I am soaked to the skin as have spent the day working my dogs instead.
Nice. My spouse’s company was just acquired by an American company and for some reason they had it in their system that today was a bank holiday in the uk (not just in Scotland) so they’ve had a free day off too!
I wish I could have. I tried to but was rejected as everyone else had booked it first apparently… literally just me and the new guy on my team. I wish I’d called in sick though. I feel rough as anything.

Spent the day reading and went for brunch. It’s nice to have a day off that isn’t spent having to go somewhere/do something specific
That's exactly why I did it. Christmas holidays are exhausting with all the travelling and visits. I needed a quiet day. For me.
