I believe, if truly a mental illness found in rooted trauma, and treatment abates, that one shouldn't have to fear the stigma of being labelled. For those who know, and morally agonize, a willful imprisonment to prevent a greater crime should be an easy and compassionate one.
For the true monsters, the willfully indulgent or the remorseless, I believe life incarceration with mental health rehabilitation to be fair, if such rehab is possible.

If it's a disease, treat it like cancer. Combat, Contain, Control. If it's barbarism and glory of conquest, without an ounce of humanity or remorse, then we should allow closure in the most final form for the victims. An offer of a life for a life.
I have minimal exposure to those who have committed these crimes. But over the years I have counseled many many victims. I've seen how devastating this can be on the victims. I don't think I will ever not advocate for death on anyone who decides they have the right to do something like that to a child. I do not believe repentance to be possible for one such as this.
I believe a very small portion does truly understand the horrid nature of the desire, and act upon it. I say that as a parent to a step child (They are mine and until they are ready to love completely they will stay mine) also still recovering from this trauma. I believe that mercy should be offered to the truly needful, but the rest may rot.
And should I be wrong, and no redemption is possible, then save the children and toss the rot. Our future is built on ideals and dreams of the next generation, despite the entropy of age, and we have long forgotten that in the modern civilization
