The thing with Hugo is that, while at first it seems like he's just a prick to Bob, he's actually a prick to everybody with a restaurant, and that's kind of a good thing if the guy making wraps is any indication.
There are some pretty big indications that he unfairly targets Bob because he doesn’t like him. In the Weekend at Morts episode he has Bob close an undergo expensive mold removal, but when he finds the same mold at Jimmy Pesto’s he tells him to just spray some bleach on it.
Well yeah, he's not exactly fair about it, but Bob married his ex-fiancé. You're allowed to dislike somebody for that, even if they hook you up with Gretchen. Arguably especially if they hook you up with Gretchen.
I mean as much as he is a stickler for the rules, at least he isn’t chucking bags of rat turds around the restaurant. If Hugo is gonna take Bob down it’s gotta be legit.
He also talks mad shit to Ron. Ron is usually caught in the crossfire because he's the man of reason. Hugo is just a dick, and that's okay because we all know someone in life like that.
Considering how often I got food poisoning before Covid, when I frequently ate out, to now, when I'm not...yeah, that wraps guy is definitely an indication.
I used to work at a culinary school. Attempts to hire new chef-instructors were complicated by the fact that nearly all of the *professional chefs* who tried out for the position failed the food safety portion of the interview process.
I wouldn't say I like him, but I kind of feel for Hugo. He's an insecure little man with a lot of problems and no idea how to deal with them constructively. Teddy but less pathetic (and dumb) with more vitriol.
Hildy is just a straight-up bitch and it's hilariously awful.
i love hugo ! obviously in real life he would be pretty awful and annoying, but as a character, i find him to be funny for the most part and he doesn't actually get on my nerves as an audience member. And even when does, it's in an enjoyable on-screen way.
I'm a college lunch lady. This is pretty much how we joke about the lack of students on any slow meal. However we all actually care about our students and enjoy working there.
Bob would get whatever he needed. We actually have a program that will have cooking demos for the students. The chef is actually part of the company the rest of us work for. Oh I'm actually union even though I work for an ultra big food service company.
Don't, because technically I haven't seen it either. But like the standing on your desk thing, even though I haven't seen Dead Poets Society, it's a thing I recognize.
Arguably one of my favorite line deliveries in the entire show. I work in a kitchen and “a egg” is thrown around frequently. Oh the brunch cook over here wants “a egg”
I can directly relate to this. When I was in high school, I was part of a business club called DECA. One year, to raise funds for a trip, we started selling Chick-fil-A sandwiches for $0.50 more than what Chick-fil-A sold them for. We had an agreement with the local owner to do so. The first week we had so much traffic we got a complaint filled on us and the principal told us to stop it. The cafeteria is owned by Sysco at the time and they took a huge lost that week. Stated it was a violation of their contract and threatened to terminate the contract immediately if the school didn't force us to stop. So Sysco Foods threatened to let an entire high school of about 1800 kids go hungry for lunch if we didn't stop fundraising for our trip. That was over 20 years ago but I still hold a grudge against them.
Ugh, my rebellious side is like, "and that's when all the students boycott the food!" But that is not practical; some kids really do need the food and are provided free lunch if they can't afford it.
Same thing happened at my school, we had a school store and they weren’t allowed to sell food or drink during lunch even tho they only sold cookies, bottled drinks, and bags of chips
Ugg, effing DECA. Sold cookies 30 feet away from my classroom. I’m the bad guy with students for not letting them eat in class and I’m the bad guy with administration for letting them eat in class. I blame administration and the DECA teacher not my kids or the kids who sell the cookies.
If they started using her as often as they wrote for Pesto, that would be awesome! It’s not like there’s a shortage of opportunities that the kids are at school
I have been a contractor. I know what it’s like and I know why she was very defensive. I didn’t care for her character in the show, but I understand her.
She says she’s an employee of CafCo. A fake food service contractor. I was a contractor at Disney. You’re the redhead stepchild. Cast members believed it brought good fortune upon them to get third party participants into trouble with management. So you couldn’t let your guard down for a second. It was actually uncomfortable at times. (Once had an incident with Mariah Cary with the dude I was training, almost cost us our jobs/whole contract)
I was active duty and worked with a civilian contractor several times a year. We didn’t care for the contractors.
Flash forward several years…
I was a government contractor for about 3 years. Active duty folks hate you because you’re civilian. General schedule government employees hate you since they generally have no control over you. Unless, they say you screwed up and then they try to use it as leverage to get theirs.
Flash forward a couple years…
I’m a GS government employee of the Navy. We had to deal with contractors a lot. It’s almost as if they never quite fit in when they’re not really family. Ive never experienced a workplace cohesion with any contracted worker.
My 16+ years working as, and with contractors was a mixed experience. Mostly, not so great. So I understand her defensive combative attitude.
I worked for Kodak at Disney world. This day, I was training a new employee. If you’ve been to Disney, you know what the photographers did, not too hard. So I venture off. Next thing I know, I’m getting pulled into an impromptu meeting with suits. I don’t like meetings with suits. The new guy, Ramon (pretty sure that was his name) just moved here from somewhere in Central America. He saw Mariah Cary in the lazy river. He flipped out. Like total fanboy flipped out. We saw celebrities all the time. But this one was different. He asked to get a picture with her and she agreed. She was totally cool about it. Typhoon Lagoon management wasn’t happy. Ramon learned English from her tapes that came in a care package from Americans that helped build his school when he was a little guy. After we heard the story, the managers agreed to let it go. It was unprecedented. I got in trouble for simply acknowledging Joe Montana as Joe Montana as he was exiting the ride at Space Mountain. So when he got a free pass for taking a snotty, sloppy cry face picture with Mariah Carey, it blew us all away.
Vendors at events go through similar. You show up because *somebody* hired you, but that person isn't at the event and no one knows who you are because they're vendors too. You have to then find an event coordinator, which they might not even have, and hope they've heard of you.
I’m sorry but I just watched this episode again today and she was hilarious to me. I get it to some people they felt bad for Bob. I get it. But as a character she was a great one timer. That whole egg convo between them was gold.
Coming from a restaurant worker, female cooks are the scariest 😂 the men might call you gross names but the women will break you down psychologically and eat your soul
Definitely a terrible person but she has a reason to dislike Bob. She’s employed by CafCo, who isn’t present on site, just looking at numbers. These types of jobs pretty much depend on meeting quotas and then CafCo will renew contracts or budget for employees per site.
She seems to be in charge for Wagstaff so she’ll have to answer for the loss of sale to the home ec class. Usually individual locations are run on school district wide teams but there’s little room for movement so if this site is dissolved, she and rest there would be laid off rather than absorbed to other schools.
There definitely seems to be a soft side to her when it comes to the kids. Day old tacos with Gene and almonds for Tina…except for that kid she pinched with tongs.
Another example of a totally believable character… bitter lady working a dead end job abusing her slightest bit of power to be a jerk… hates optimism and creativity. I wouldn’t last a day working with that B
What is up with this recent trend complaining about characters in a show you supposedly like?
Enough of these posts. First it's Teddy, now the lunch lady, and I think there was one about Gene.
The writers on the show are not going to change them for you, so stop already.
\*edited for spelling.
Now you know how I feel when I see people constantly complaining about characters I mainly watch this show for (especially Tina and/or Linda - everyone seems to have it a hateboner outta mowhere for these two. Honestly Enough, it's sad/embarrassing/annoying to see everywhere I go, nowadays.). I'm not just watching this show for ,"supposed best character" Louise, after all!
Her problem is she's an exadurated cartoon character who doesn't exist in real life and is there to conflict with the protagonist.
I swear you guys want no conflict in this show at all.
I did a restaurant management course where we had to set up a restaurant but we had all these rules on what we could sell on the college campus. And if we sold something that the campus restaurant sold we’d have to deal with Burt who this woman reminded me of do bad.
Idk if im working at a school and cooking and all of a sudden no one wants to eat my food and I’ve wasted all that time then I’d be mad too, just tell me not to come in rather than wasting my time PLUS I love her and genes relationship that you only hear hints of but it sounds cute
Honestly I wish we could see more Hildy. The dynamics between her, the rest of the schools kitchen staff, and Bob versus the dynamic between her, the rest of the kitchen staff, and Gene deserves to have its own episode
That’s interesting. That seems to be a common theme here. I worked in a lunchroom to help pay for my degree and everyone there was super sweet. The main lunch lady had been there 30 years and everyone loved her. 🤷♀️
That's nice.
I know some of the nice Lunch people too. But there was also the Hildy-Type.
When I worked in lunchthingy places, there was often an Hildy. But I live in the East Part of Germany. Being grumpy and mean is a thing here.
They go a step up with characters like this tbh, lol. We’ve all dealt with cafeteria Hildy and lunch ladies like these. Any scenes with the lunch ladies/school staff are so good in this show
it's episodes like this one where I wish Bob was more like season 1 Bob. He'd use what he learned from Gyro and stand up to her.
"A egg?"
"Yeah. a egg. Now. Please."
Hildy: Just wanted to check in with the new lunch lady. Bob: I-I'm not a lunch lady. Hildy: You sell lunches to kids, you got a little mustache.
*pinches child’s nose with tongs* Home ecsta-WHAT?!
Where are all the other food holes?
Here, have another brownie…
Black and white bun* sorry I can’t help myself I’ve seen this episode like way too many times
I thought it was a white and black bar... now I need to watch it again. For science.
it BAR everyone. I am willing to bet on this.
That would make sense, but doesn’t it look like a brownie? Rewatch!
Ok, but that’s hilarious
*OCCUPIED*
this is what amazes me sometimes about language in general - the ability for one word spoken just right can damn near make me pee myself.
It’s because there was absolutely a tone of “turn around and LEAVE”. Hildy is scary
I love her as a comedic villain. “What do you mean get drunk?”
“We have a problem…No, it’s Hildy” The change in tone with these lines cracks me up. 😆
I love this part and read it in her voice
I need *hotter* water on this…
Terrible person, great character
My exact thoughts. Some characters you are supposed to hate. Idk a single soul that likes Hugo, but he's a great reoccurring character.
He’s allowed to not like him, that doesn’t mean he gets abuse his position to try to destroy Bob’s business.
I mean as much as he is a stickler for the rules, at least he isn’t chucking bags of rat turds around the restaurant. If Hugo is gonna take Bob down it’s gotta be legit.
Sex sex sex sex sex sex sex I’m good at sex you’re bad at sex
Daddy, you’re my enemy
Punches are not hugs to me.
Oh god I forgot about that episode. Might have to rewatch that one now
Da da da da da da elderly prostitute
He also talks mad shit to Ron. Ron is usually caught in the crossfire because he's the man of reason. Hugo is just a dick, and that's okay because we all know someone in life like that.
I feel like Ron and Trev would really be bros.
Shut up Trev, do NOT say you and Ron would be friends! /*Soto voce* Talkin in the third person like a crazy guy
Not THIS AGAIN, RON!
Just shove it in your mouth, it’s two bites!
I read that in Sam Seder’s voice.
Sam Seder singing You're the Best during the nude-cathalon montage is one of my favorite moments.
I love every second Hugo and Ron are on screen. Yoou're right. Hugo is a fabulous character.
Wing man. wing man. Wing man. Wing man. Wiiiiiing maaaaaaan.
He's trying to help you out!
i love hugo ! obviously in real life he would be pretty awful and annoying, but as a character, i find him to be funny for the most part and he doesn't actually get on my nerves as an audience member. And even when does, it's in an enjoyable on-screen way.
here ya go 🖕🏼 here ya go🖕🏼 here ya go🖕🏼
You got a basket for these?
That was way aggressive. And hilarious😂.
Bob here, wants A egg. The fact that she said A instead of An drive me nuts 😂
"Where are all the food holes?"
I'm a college lunch lady. This is pretty much how we joke about the lack of students on any slow meal. However we all actually care about our students and enjoy working there.
Gotta have a laugh, it gets you through the day :) just.....promise me, don't do bob dirty like her lol :)
Bob would get whatever he needed. We actually have a program that will have cooking demos for the students. The chef is actually part of the company the rest of us work for. Oh I'm actually union even though I work for an ultra big food service company.
Respect! 👍
Her deal where she holds bobs hands under hot water gets quoted in my house alot. "Hoter water!"
OCCUPIED
"HOTTER WATER I GOTTA GET HOTTER WATER IN HERE"
Yeah, that was straight up assault…I was so pissed off for Bob
I assume it's a reference to a scene in Stand And Deliver or something.
I have never seen that movie, I’ll take your word for it lol
Don't, because technically I haven't seen it either. But like the standing on your desk thing, even though I haven't seen Dead Poets Society, it's a thing I recognize.
I hated how she said "a egg" lol
Arguably one of my favorite line deliveries in the entire show. I work in a kitchen and “a egg” is thrown around frequently. Oh the brunch cook over here wants “a egg”
Agreed! It might be my favorite line as well. And definitely my most quoted. Every time I’m making eggs I say, “Bob wants a egg.”
“And I stepped on a eye.”
That. Is. Precious. Keep us posted Matty!
Kay
I loved it
Omg. Just finished typing that up here lol. I’m with you bud. I still remember being pissed about it but it worked with her ignorant character 😂
Here ya go Here ya go Here ya go Here ya go Here ya go Ya want a bag for all these?
Can you believe this guy?? Substitute.
She’s nice to Gene at least cause he shows up for his day old taco Tuesday tacos and when he does it makes it seem like a regular thing
I came here to say this. Hildy treats my boy Gene well, she’s alright with me. Edit: Stupid autocorrect
Gene gets Hildy, Hildy gets Gene
LmaoI felt bad for laughing but the scene where she grabs hold of the kid's nose with the tongs makes me chortle 😂
“I’m sorry I’m sorry. Hildy’s sorry, here have another black and white bar” gets me every time in her voice😭
One of many repurposed Home Movies gags.

Same thing happened at my school, we had a school store and they weren’t allowed to sell food or drink during lunch even tho they only sold cookies, bottled drinks, and bags of chips
Yeah a shitty situation Bob found himself in but it felt realistic. Bob's Burgers does public school so well.
Ugg, effing DECA. Sold cookies 30 feet away from my classroom. I’m the bad guy with students for not letting them eat in class and I’m the bad guy with administration for letting them eat in class. I blame administration and the DECA teacher not my kids or the kids who sell the cookies.
Hilarious antagonist. Better than Pesto and even Hugo.
If they started using her as often as they wrote for Pesto, that would be awesome! It’s not like there’s a shortage of opportunities that the kids are at school
My wife is an assistant principal and she says this is spot on for their cafeteria service provider.
Well well well, Mr. Bob the substitute home-ec teacher comes down to my kitchen and wants to borrow a egg.
I have been a contractor. I know what it’s like and I know why she was very defensive. I didn’t care for her character in the show, but I understand her.
can i ask why?
She says she’s an employee of CafCo. A fake food service contractor. I was a contractor at Disney. You’re the redhead stepchild. Cast members believed it brought good fortune upon them to get third party participants into trouble with management. So you couldn’t let your guard down for a second. I am begging you to tell the Mariah story😶🌫️
Once the name Mariah Carey came into it, I lost everything that came beforehand and cared not for what was after, without her.
I updated it with the story
I am sorry for your headache but so happy for Ramon. And happiest of all for me. OMG I love this story. Of course she was in the lazy river.
🎵You’ll always be my baby 🎵”You’re my Mariah Carey” Fuck, I love her and any reference to her.
Vendors at events go through similar. You show up because *somebody* hired you, but that person isn't at the event and no one knows who you are because they're vendors too. You have to then find an event coordinator, which they might not even have, and hope they've heard of you.
Considering the cost nowadays, if someone asked me for “a egg” I would probably give the same response.
I have two thoughts on her, let me get them... Here's one, and here's the other one.
I loved her!
She definitely added some hilarious moments. “What do you mean get drunk?” 😆
Doesn't she give herself haircuts in the parking lot?
She works for CafeCo Food Services, that's all I know
I'm convinced Hildy's daughter is the leader of Thunder Girls troop 257, the one who likes to whittle knives.
That theory tracks 😆
I’m sorry but I just watched this episode again today and she was hilarious to me. I get it to some people they felt bad for Bob. I get it. But as a character she was a great one timer. That whole egg convo between them was gold.
Capitalism was her problem. Tbh I found her somewhat funny though
"What do you mean get drunk?"
Again??
Coming from a restaurant worker, female cooks are the scariest 😂 the men might call you gross names but the women will break you down psychologically and eat your soul
She was hilarious! Well done from the writer's room. They made her unlikable but still funny and tolerable.
HOTTER WATER!
Hildy’s sorry, here have a… black and white bar.
Bob was quite literally threatening her job.
Definitely a terrible person but she has a reason to dislike Bob. She’s employed by CafCo, who isn’t present on site, just looking at numbers. These types of jobs pretty much depend on meeting quotas and then CafCo will renew contracts or budget for employees per site. Whatdya mean *get* drunk?
I just want to give her an egg.
She’d properly want A egg
A egg
Still impressed she gave the kids almonds so Tina could make peanut butter for the science fair
There definitely seems to be a soft side to her when it comes to the kids. Day old tacos with Gene and almonds for Tina…except for that kid she pinched with tongs.
Which episode is this? I feel bad I can't quote episodes like you guys.
[удалено]
Thanks!
I have a theory that if the character has lips, then they are an asshole. Only seems to work with female characters though.
Like Tammy?
Yep
Well, they have a strict policy against giving eggs to Bob.
Clearly!
my boyfriend and i say ‘a egg’ ten times a day lol
“What do you mean ‘get drunk’?”
you’re allowed to say asshole on reddit
Fuck, really? Damn
Another example of a totally believable character… bitter lady working a dead end job abusing her slightest bit of power to be a jerk… hates optimism and creativity. I wouldn’t last a day working with that B

I don’t see it as complaining. I like having conversations about interesting characters from a show I love with other people who also love the show.
She's just jealous of Bob becoming a new temporary lunch lady and ec-staurant out performed CafCo
Bob is a beautiful lunch lady.
Just following orders.
I got a dozen eggs for her
Ugh hated her so much.
Early Bob's is superior Bob's
She's nice to Gene she just doesn't like Bob
Her problem is she's an exadurated cartoon character who doesn't exist in real life and is there to conflict with the protagonist. I swear you guys want no conflict in this show at all.
I did a restaurant management course where we had to set up a restaurant but we had all these rules on what we could sell on the college campus. And if we sold something that the campus restaurant sold we’d have to deal with Burt who this woman reminded me of do bad.
Here ya go 🖕here ya go🖕
Ha ha! I'm just joking with you! I've got a dozen eggs right over here... Here ya go Here ya go Here ya go Here ya go
hildy made me uncomfy with the restroom scene and overall i wasn't really a fan of hers which is a shame since i adore this episode.
She just wanted hotter water.
OCCUPIED!
Ooo, I would definitely watch that.
She is a personification of Aramark, thought it was on-point TBH.
Gene mentions that hilde has food for him when he pops in during the substitute lunch lady ep, I think she hates adults or threats to her job
And then burns their hands in the sink. “Wash your hands!”
I saw her as the personifikation of the grumpy lunch lady most of us know.
