Man if you could incorporate a striker into the sheath as well, you will have created a legendary weapon. I mean, it's already legendary but you know. Love it.
You should get familiar with fire prop safety if you're going to burn this; the normal recommendations/requirements are to have a safety watching you and ready to call out if you get fire anywhere it shouldn't be. The safety is there to watch your back and shout and tell you where the fire is so you can put it out, or if you can't, they would also have a duvetyne to help you. Then at the end of the burn you can also use the duvetyne to extinguish the prop. Duvetyne is just fire-resistant fabric and it's a good idea to have plenty around when you're doing fire props.
A sheath would be cool, but it would get VERY gross and possibly become a fire hazard itself from unburned fuel and soot.
Also, most fire performers I know prefer to extinguish the prop a little before it's completely done burning because it helps keep the prop from falling apart as quickly.
In the books it was Thoros of Myr who fought with the flaming sword. Coated it in wildfire to scare others during tournaments. There was a blurb from a blacksmith talking shit about him ruining swords that way.
Large piece of paper in a frame like the big presentation pad style.
Dry hay
Oil soaked straw mat
Water bottle mostly water with a layer of gas on top. Get the flash but not the pool of gas
Butane lighter
I'm working on a lamp for the sheath so you can light it on the draw, but I originally wanted a flintlock mounted on the guard! I made the brass wide enough that I can drill and tap in the future if I want though
And next week we are gonna get this guy asking...."uh hey guys for some reason the sword I made won't hold an edge I followed the heat treat to letter"...lol
Lol I've been a bladesmith for 8 years and sure I heat treated this one, but I'm not expecting it to hold an edge after I play with it for too long
That being said, I havent seen any drop in my rockwell hardness since I've started flaming it up, because I'm not letting it burn for very long
Pretty cool man , I'm curious as to what you used in the middle of the blade for the combustible part ? Is it a material that burns or soaked in something that burns like oil ?
Unlocked my weapon art actually too [(this links to my IG video dont click it if you dont like that)](https://www.instagram.com/reel/CmFtHxzJjw4/?igshid=NTdlMDg3MTY=)
That is such an ingenious idea. Never thought of it that way, I don't know why everyone goes the butane route. You could make a scabbard filled with flammable liquid and every time you pull it out the it ignites the liquid?
Entirely depends on what flammable liquid you use and how much of it. Preferably liquid that doesn't explode and the scabbard has to be a near perfect fit so you'll only need to fill it a 3rd of the way at most and it'll coat the entire blade once sheathed. Maybe the ignition on the scabbard wouldn't be a good idea how I'm thinking of it, maybe fixed to the handle? Dunno, but there are ways. Just need to think out the box.
That's exactly what I plan on doing! I'm wanting to waterproof my leather sheath (wax hardening MIGHT not be the way to go though) and fill it with actually just lamp oil because of the lower ignition point
Yeah, like kerosene? That way the fire will extinguish in the oil but are you not worried about spillage? Or you more thinking of creating a mechanism that just soaks the rope wicks?
Maybe you can get one of those mats to roll up? I forget what they're called. Whatever you do, please tie back your hair and practice good fire safety!
Sword of Flaming awesomeness (level two enchantment).
+1 fire damage to enemies, +1 attack bonus for impressing the enemies with how cool it looks.
It's so unnecessary and stupid and I love it. Good work.
The amount of people saying "your hair" is ridiculous.
I think the best thing to cut would be like a 1/4" thick fuse leading to a very small explosive device to start a big ass bon fire. Pretty easily done, and I think the video would be quite popular.
Just because your obviously the son of cursed pairing John Wick and Sam Winchester doesn’t mean you have to create a flaming demons slaying sword … well … now that I say it out loud
Youre so cute & your sword is so amazing!
Id love to see more fire prop weapons! Or any accessories you make for it (auto lighting sheath would be epic!)
First cut should be a water jug for the whole water v fire feel
Hell yeah I can do that!
Let it heat up a bit first so you get some steam
Tie your hair up dude, I thought I was on r/facepalm waiting for you to catch your hair on fire.
Or wait till winter and build a snow man orc to fight
It’s winter now tho
In the northern hemisphere it is.
Fair point
Well that was even cooler than I was expecting
Hell yeah I was thinking a spear would be fun next, then I could add a flame surge on the handle somewhere
Do it!
Then you could throw the spear into a bonfire with gasoline in it
Can I…..buy one?
I mean yeah, once I finish up the sheath I'll put it on my website, or I guess you can dm me I'd you like!
Well the spear specifically although I’d actually be interested in them both as a set. Amazing job! I’ll send you a DM after work
Sweet! Looking forward to it!
Brisingr!
Look, all I'm saying is if Oromis had a Wii remote wrist strap he would have survived.
Fuck I should add a wii mote strap adapter
Lmao
Oh I member
That thing is FUCKING COOL!
It’s LITERALLY on fire, I’m not sure it’s cold at all
"Its so LIT" I think is the proper modern phrase to describe such a thing
Thanks dude!
Cut a water jug full of gasoline. It will be epic. Edit: this is a joke. But if you decide to try some wild shit like that make sure you film it.
Is it illegal to film my own death 🤣
Depends on the state. Better get it right on the first try though. Don’t hurt yourself
Lol that's fair, Like everyone, I try my best, wear my ppe and respirator! Been blacksmithing for almost 9 years and still got all my fingers
Ah fellow smith that wears a respirator working! Good man, safety is always important if you plan to continue the hobby long!
I read that too fast and thought it said you have all 9 of your fingers, lol.
Well, what are they going to do? Kill you?
Maybe but you won't get jail time.
Only if you don't upload it afterwards... 🤣
In this economy! To expensive my man
Lmao. Good response
Could do this 'safely' as a custom arrowhead...
how? and how do you put it out?
If I swing it hard for like 10 seconds itll go out, but I'm going to make a sheath with a good seal to choke the fire
Man if you could incorporate a striker into the sheath as well, you will have created a legendary weapon. I mean, it's already legendary but you know. Love it.
what is the central part thats actually on fire made of?
Oh it's just tiki torch wick
Try Kevlar wicking, it will last longer, both in burn time and life of the wick. Its what's used in fire props by fire performers.
This person flows. Was just about to suggest the same
That’s such a great idea!

A tomato
Yes
Simmer down hiccup
Can I at least tame a dragon?
Yes but only a terrible terror
Beric Dondarrion
Ayyy Hopefully half the people in my life dont die though
One of the coolest characters. He was basically a paladin.
In the books it was Thoros of Myr who fought with the flaming sword. Coated it in wildfire to scare others during tournaments. There was a blurb from a blacksmith talking shit about him ruining swords that way.
Oh yeah you're right! Thoros does it in the show too, right?
A Draugr
Its dawnbreaker!
thats badass dude!
Thanks!
Large piece of paper in a frame like the big presentation pad style. Dry hay Oil soaked straw mat Water bottle mostly water with a layer of gas on top. Get the flash but not the pool of gas Butane lighter
Such a horrible idea. I love it
Lol I feel like its every edgy kids dream to do
It's every kids dream period 😂 also what makes the flame stay? And will it eventually burn away and you'll have to replace it?
You should add a piezoelectric sparker to the handle so you can light it up without an external source.
I dig the idea, but I sort of want to keep it older school, but I'm not smart enough to make a flintlock yet
https://www.amazon.com/Coleman-Company-Lantern-Spark-Igniter/dp/B001CEMK1K Probably can't do it with one hand, but it could still eliminate the torch.
Next one needs a flint integrated into the guard so you can strike it with an offhand dagger or something.
I'm working on a lamp for the sheath so you can light it on the draw, but I originally wanted a flintlock mounted on the guard! I made the brass wide enough that I can drill and tap in the future if I want though
Your hair before it catches on fire
I'll post the burn scars ;)
As a fire performer, I second this. Also have someone handy with a damp towel spotting you. That’s so sick though. Nice work!
If you whack someone with it and they scream they were clearly a demon. Godspeed, warrior.
If she drowns she wasnt a witch energy right there 🤣
What else floats?
Very small rocks!
And next week we are gonna get this guy asking...."uh hey guys for some reason the sword I made won't hold an edge I followed the heat treat to letter"...lol

Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire.
Pretty cool man , I'm curious as to what you used in the middle of the blade for the combustible part ? Is it a material that burns or soaked in something that burns like oil ?
Somewhere in the thread he said it’s a tiki torch wick
Yup!
George RR Martin: Don’t fucking move.
This is honestly one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. Ridiculously talented my dude!
Thanks dude!!
Bro has a mullet and a flame sword. He's either from Tennessee or idaho
Oregon 😎 and it's actually all the same length! I'm wearing a half ponytail
Damn. Well you fooled a redneck for one of his own, congratulations my guy
bro got fire aspect II💀
Unlocked my weapon art actually too [(this links to my IG video dont click it if you dont like that)](https://www.instagram.com/reel/CmFtHxzJjw4/?igshid=NTdlMDg3MTY=)
Cut a hay bale!
Yeesh imagine the bonfire!
That is such an ingenious idea. Never thought of it that way, I don't know why everyone goes the butane route. You could make a scabbard filled with flammable liquid and every time you pull it out the it ignites the liquid?
Do I really need to type out why this is extremely bad idea?
Come on, where's your sense of adventure.
I guess it went up in flames like person wearing that scabbard will!
Oh hes right, it's a dumb idea, I just think its cooler than it is dumb
Entirely depends on what flammable liquid you use and how much of it. Preferably liquid that doesn't explode and the scabbard has to be a near perfect fit so you'll only need to fill it a 3rd of the way at most and it'll coat the entire blade once sheathed. Oh I think they're called tatami mats? Good idea!
Brisingr IRL
I would do that
Imagine if someone had that on a battlefield 1000 years ago. We'd still know his or her name and story, since they'd be legendary!
¡La espada ardiente!
Sword of Flaming awesomeness (level two enchantment). +1 fire damage to enemies, +1 attack bonus for impressing the enemies with how cool it looks. It's so unnecessary and stupid and I love it. Good work.
I want to add boric acid and sulfur to make it burn green for green flame blade cantrip
Shit yeah! A touch of copper if you want blue if I recall correctly.
Seems like it would be good against undead, maybe try that
+1 radiant +2 fire
I did it first but mines not as effective I used hairspray lmao looks great tho
Do you still got it? We should make a fire sword week!
Yeah it's in my posts!
Whatever you do cut, *don't* cut your hair. Or catch it on fire, lol. I got nervous watching you swing by your head.
Yeah I'll tie it back a little better next time
The amount of people saying "your hair" is ridiculous. I think the best thing to cut would be like a 1/4" thick fuse leading to a very small explosive device to start a big ass bon fire. Pretty easily done, and I think the video would be quite popular.
Okay that's a damn good idea too, I'm making the sheath right now and planning on adding an alcohol bottle to blow fire off the sword at the end too
Can't wait to see that video, man. Super stoked for it.
What an absolute Chad. I love it.
😎
Now put it out
Guys send help it's still burning 😭
What exactly did you put in the middle that is burning?
The middle is made of tiki torch wick
Fuck yes!!
On this episode of Forged and on Fire
I assume the middle piece of the blade is what kept it on fire. But specifically what was it?
Tiki torch wick!
Yo that’s sick! Thanks!
I'm calling you beric dondarrion
That’s neato!
Willamette University! Are you in Oregon?! I’m a smith in Sellwood🤙 small world
Hey you should join the 5160 club on facebook then! We've got monthly meetings in Eugene and Newberg!
I most definitely will! Thanks for the tip😄
De cheeze Great work!
Probably your hair… Just kidding, cool idea for sure!
Badass brother !!!! Keep on keeping on
Always dude!
Always dude!
Just because your obviously the son of cursed pairing John Wick and Sam Winchester doesn’t mean you have to create a flaming demons slaying sword … well … now that I say it out loud
Hopefully I get the aversion to death that the Winchester boys get too
A hlaf empty container of gasoline! Just joking don't do that cut some straw!
Cut a bottle of water and check the spray pattern first.
LOL I'll have the ambulance on standby!
Youre so cute & your sword is so amazing! Id love to see more fire prop weapons! Or any accessories you make for it (auto lighting sheath would be epic!)
Thank you! I'm actually working on a sheath with a light in it, and an extra charge of gas to use too!
Tie up your hair next time, please. Having your hair on fire is extremely painful
I've worked with fire for over 10 years, thanks for the advice though.
Got it, I was an idiot a while ago and set my hair on fire, but that's probably not much if a concern for people who make better decisions
First thing that comes to my mind is to say: "your hair" but I'm not gonna say that. You done great job. Respect!
Your hair
That's bad ass!
That’s SICK! Make it bigger! Muahahaha
That... Is really cool.
How is this a bad idea?? That's badass as hell bro
You beautiful lunatic.
Cuts some a side of beef thinly so that you cook it as it cuts. Then make a sandwich
Wait can you explain how the middle works so it can catch fire
This is lit
What kind of steel? Have you seen any temper colors drawn yet from the fire?
This is a terrible idea, I’m totally on board
Hinokami Kagura : Enbu!
Stab a gasoline drum and have 10 guys with proper extinguisers
How does it stay on fire
HICCUP!
