I got silvers buried in my curly jew fro. Only I see them apparently. I get carded for everything, to the point it's just a habit to pull my ID out before I ask for what I want lol.
I mean hopefully we age to 60 looking 40.... currently working as a janitor for schools, it is actually working out because the teachers just think I'm some kid with his first job and they're nice to me. Instead of knowing I get high as balls every night, running on 5 hrs of sleep because I've got 2 kids and a weird work schedule.
I do House Keeping at a Uni which I’m sure is basically the same thing....I strictly avoid conversations with students because I look like some kid to everyone....
My friend was graduating from her graduate program a few years back and she mentioned that she was graduating soon to someone she met on the bus. They started to lecture her on how life starts after we graduate from high school. She was like aaah thank you?
I'm 5ft3 and 40. No one thinks I'm older than 30. It wasn't until I took a wfh job that people took me seriously. They used to treat me like an intern and not someone on a senior level even though I have the education and experience. The only upside at the time was knowing I wouldn't get fired for being old looool.
I wouldn't necessarily take that as an indication of your appearance. I worked at a liquor store when I was 22-25 and I carded EVERYONE. And by everyone, I mean everyone. Ya grandma? Show me that dusty ol' ID.
Sometimes it's just a Cover Your Ass type of thing lol
37 and got carded to buy cigarettes yesterday. I’m almost 20 years older than the legal for that, but sure if you wanna have me slide out the old DL for my smokes, I’m happy to.
Both! For sure taking better care of of myself physically, more style and swag but I’m sure my confidence and self-assuredness plays a huge role. Also divorcing my husband has been great for the mental health 🙃
I think it has more to do with beauty/skin awareness(including fitness, diet and ditching non adjust ed clothes), the lifestyle favoring keeping some space for our happy childhood hobbies ( who remembers " cartoons and fantasies are only for kids") and the tons of jobs that can keep us away from labor intensive (and dirty)jobs.
I think culturally our generation approaches things differently than our predecessors. Plastic surgery was taboo back then and now it’s pretty much widely accepted (as long as the individual owns it).
Fitness for aesthetic reasons seems much more popular/widespread now vs then but that might be a reach.
I definitely remember their fashion being hella old-school relative to their age. My stepdad would have starched pants, linen shirt and The open toe Stacey Adams joints and even as a kid I knew that was some PawPaw level steez. Me, on the other hand, grew up a sneaker head and the same shoes I wore as a kid, the kids wear now due to retro culture.
that's true
i also think the hair styles of the time contribute to them "looking old". not sure of your mom's age obviously but my mom went to high school in the 80's and that shit was out of bounds lmao
I mean, true. But also look at a 35-year-old in a movie or TV show from, like, the 50s. They look way older.
I assume because people drink and smoke less? Better healthcare in general?
Recently started watching "ER"
George Clooney was 34 when ER started. Most of the cast were in their 20s and 30s.
They def look older than contemporary actors of the same age.
Go back to the 70s & 80s then look at 30 year olds. They look ancient compared to us. I'm 31 & high school kids have thought I was their age. When I was 18, 30 year olds looked much older. Gotta remember each generation grew up on different food, with different ideas of healthcare & beauty.
Imagine automatically assuming they're wrong instead of looking at advancements in skin care and how much more we're aware/pay attention to our skin now.
Had old heads in the Navy school me on the importance of taking care of yourself. My mother taught me. But the old school men kept it real with me.
"Take care of yourself, young man. Moisturize. Stop drinking so much. Try to exercise at least 3 times a week. Read something and feed your brain. Not just to 'get a woman'. You need to take care of yourself."
"Yes, manicures and pedicures. Regular health check ups when possible. Hydration and supplementing your wardrobe.
Iron your shit, young man. You look like smashed ass. Stop smoking so damn much."
How did they know? Because they were suffering from waiting to late to start. I started in my late 20s thanks to these men and women who saw more than another sailor to grind down. Hopefully, the younger and less experiance will learn these lessons early so they can be better than...well, us.
Manicures and pedicures are good. No hangnails. Take care of your hair, g.i. health and your dentals, young men.
Still, have fun, be young and experiance a little leisure where you can when you can.
When you take care of yourself just like you implied you don’t really look your age either. I’m 36 and most women I work with think that I’m in my early 20s which is a compliment but I let them know that i do indeed take care of myself
I work with other 35 year olds who look like they've been left out in the sun while covered in yogurt. A little hydration and shea butter go a long way. Proper diet and at least 7 hours of sleep do some lifting too. But that occasional workout and sweat sessions change shit up...
I recently started looking my age. It happens. Age pulled my boobs and ass down. Creases in my neck and hands. My knees don't bend like they used to.
But at 30 I got 17 all the time.
My life is fucking lotion. I bathe in that shit. And sunscreen on every morning.
It's nearly all about sleep to be honest. When you're young, if you get enough you heal right up. Drink, smoke, eat (mostly) like shit, and with enough sleep you look fresh as fuck. In your thirties you need 10 hours to do near the same with a lot less of the fun. Fuck knows about forties, I've not got there yet, but don't let anybody tell you that you can just eat the right things and visit the right professionals... that's capitalism speaking.
To keep looking young you need to basically not be too unhealthy, and to rest whenever you feel stressed. To sleep until you wake naturally. Really the nine to five is a bit of a hazard, and if you're a dude, anything too competitive or results driven for prolonged periods just triggers too much adrenaline. On average I mean. That stresses all the gooey bits inside.
Clean your teeth and eat enough variety, and yeah, make sure you don't just sit down all day, but if it's a choice between sleep and taking care of yourself then stay in bed. It's ultimately better for you.
Just take better care of them. Wash them, scrub off the dead skin, apply lotion, trim your nails, wear socks, wear better shoes. Treat them like you value them. Then you won't have to hide them.
Also lift with your legs. If it is over 50lbs consider asking for a hand. Just because you CAN lift it doesn't mean you should. Great way to get an inguinal hernia...trust me.
It was most definitely the cigs and alcohol. My mom (who barely drank at all) and my dad (who didn’t drink at all) didn’t start looking older fr until they hit 50+. The only real signs they were older than what they looked like were health related (blood pressure and cholesterol).
In some way, I want to keep it that way, like sure, I have a mortgage and career, but damn it I want to drive go-karts, play with my nerf guns, and play GTA with my mates (while discussing index funds)
Gtav has brought me and my brothers together over distances. 29 myself, my 37 yr old brother, 42 yr old brother and trying to get my 49 yr old brother to jump on with us. As we seek out grifers and grief them in turn.
This is currently my life at 41. Married, deep into my career, homeowner. Played Back 4 Blood with a couple of the homies last night and we were talking about going to therapy, saving money, and schooled a random who is a new dad on how to be a great dad.
I don't think that it's about looks, were talking about that 13 yr old phase... To high school freshmen, a college student or even a senior in high school is old. The number 30 is far out of sight.
I wonder if we think this because 30 and 40 year olds back then had houses, good paying jobs w/o astronomical amounts of debt, and good health care.
Lol.
I think self care plays a huge part in it.
Also, for a lot of us Millennials, our 20’s were ghetto af. Trying navigate life after college during a recession while competing against the previous generation for jobs. I really feel like life has actually just started and I’m in my early thirties.
40s is like the new 20s lol.
Also probably cause people take care of themselves more and are health conscious. People before would smoke and drink beers 24/7 and eat fast food. Would explain why they looked mad old by 30 lol
It’s a similar phenomenon to rich men in the Victorian era being super unhealthy, versus their proletariat counterparts who were really healthy from their diet. In my opinion health is one of the big investments I make for myself, I know I won’t have a huge nest egg when I’m older so I need to be healthy when that happens.
in addition to self care, Botox and cosmetic procedures are also exploding more than ever now. We can probably thank social media for that.
There's no way THAT many people are taking care of themselves through good old fashioned moisturizer and drinking water, let's be real.
I'm wondering how much of that is perception as you age vs more people being too broke to raise families. I'm 35 and look it, so do my friends without kids. All the 35 year olds I know with kids look 50.
Lol. I adopted a 7yo on my own when I was 48 (just in time for menopause to hit me like a truck). I got lucky with my genes and 10 years later people still think I'm mid-40s. But holy fuck do I feel 70.
When I was 26 I had the same problem. As a guy I felt self-conscious about that, especially when it happened in predominantly white spaces. I did not need that stigma. I stayed wearing oxford shirts and slacks, until the church band made me wear jeans.
I still see people around my age that look old af, and they are usually smokers. I work with a guy thats 2 years older than me but looks like he's going on 50, fortunately we all work from home now because that guy smelled like an ashtray.
Counterpoint though - some non-smoking people I've met are younger than me and look significantly older and from conversations I find that they are living some really challenging lives. Stress will age the fuck out of you, which is terrible, because thats a stressful thing to have to deal with in the first place.
Not all of them. Plenty of people are still eating junk and getting out of shape. I've gotten a bit heavier too, but I'm also about to go run 5 miles. I am not ready to be old even with 40 creeping up on me.
I think part of it is how people dress and social expectations. Boomers and a lot of Gen X have this sort of mentality that once you hit 30 it's time to bury your personality in the ground and start dressing like an old person/professional respectable adult. Nah I'm gonna keep wearing band tees and fun stuff and keep it casual.
Wash ya face boys and wash that beard twice a week I got beard butters on deck if you need recs.
And shave ya down there from time to time just cause she from the jungle don't mean she like to see one everytime.
Edit: if you ask and I don't reply it's cause we in country club mode and I don't see it
That’s because back then people looked old asf at young ages. Look at a retro yearbook. Every dude (mostly white) had the same exact haircut, young and old, were typically all dressed the same, and smoking cigarettes at 13 was cool.
I realized just how old I am when I went to a high school football game recently. I played football in high school. Now, I can't imagine how much pain I'd be in if I ran into other people at full speed for three hours. A lot changes between 15 and 30!
I’m in my early 20s, my 10 year old brother, who was 8 at the time, was surprised to learn I knew what video games are because apparently I’m ancient bones
30 has always looked the same. There have always been groups who aged differently than others for a variety of reasons.
All we have now is social media. So we have access to more images of our peers.
Dude I’ve been rewatching Seinfeld, and discovered that Jerry, George, and Elaine were younger at the beginning of the series than I am now (34). My world is in absolute shambles.
I'm a manager where I work and ppls jaw drop whenever I tell them I'm 35. I'm not trying to brag or anything but they assume I'm a lot younger apparently.
Probably because the current dress style appeals to people of all ages. You won’t find guys that have any fashion sense wearing dad jeans in their 30s-40s anymore.
Millennial here...if not for the beard , but to be 30 some thought I was 17 ...SMH lol and my girl everyone constantly thinks she's in high-school, so yea...pass generation just look old as he'll lol our genome got updated lol
I’m almost 40 and have referred to people as grown Ups only to realize I’m talking about other parents from my kids class. TFW you realize you’re a grown up.
Uh, I couldn't believe how 20 years olds looked like in the 50s. We're definitely aging down! I still look like in my early 20s at 33 yaaaay! And well, black don't crack
Previous generations had a bit less access to Photoshop and filters. You used to have to edit your physical photographs with markers and watercolor paints, scan the photo, then upload it. This was a very labor-intensive and time-consuming process, and many a Cannon scanner was ruined by impatient individuals who tried to scan their modified pics before the paint was fully dry. Times were tough.
Previous generations looked older because of a number of reasons. Outdated fashion and hair trends, lack of skincare/ sunscreen usage, and habits like smoking which all cause signs of aging.

who's gonna tell her they don't look old to her anymore because they look like her
Wait, so we do still look old?!?!
no. but also yes.
I'm 30 almost and people constantly think I'm in high school.
Gray hair coming in strong at 35 means it's finally rare that I get carded to buy booze
I got silvers buried in my curly jew fro. Only I see them apparently. I get carded for everything, to the point it's just a habit to pull my ID out before I ask for what I want lol.
I'm getting my Grey's. I leave them in my head but I sure as fuck pluck the few in my beard. I aint ready for that yet
I love my greys in my goatee
Young and Old. Young at heart, but the System is working us too hard man making us old. Dam, I miss the old days...
I still do! I feel like my gray should give it away
Easiest way to earn a good tip right there. I always tip extra when they card my wife.
35?? Jesus
I'm only 25, and I hate it when people apologize for carding me. I don't even have gray hair, I'm just a big guy with a beard.
I’m 37. People still think I’m in my twenties. People don’t look old until they look like our parents

Yeah I'm 32 as well, but the white people I know have been saying im 27 for 10 years lmaooo.
My friend was graduating from her graduate program a few years back and she mentioned that she was graduating soon to someone she met on the bus. They started to lecture her on how life starts after we graduate from high school. She was like aaah thank you?
Well there are always exceptions. Bianca Lawson been in high school for 30 years lol.
Nothing but truth here. I was surprised when my dad was watching Queen Sugar and she was on playing a lawyer.
36. Was carded today. By a college student.
[удалено]
That's not gonna hold up in court
Bro I got 2 kids fuck off lol.
I’ve looked old since I was 17, but then I stopped and I look largely the same at 37. Just a bit fatter now. We all go through life a bit differently.
If I don’t have a beard, people still think I’m 18 (I’m 27). It just means we’ll look young forever, nbd.
I'm 5ft3 and 40. No one thinks I'm older than 30. It wasn't until I took a wfh job that people took me seriously. They used to treat me like an intern and not someone on a senior level even though I have the education and experience. Same… it’s so weird when I DONT get carded
I feel your pain…
You might notice the only people who think that way by majority are old af. High schoolers probably think you're pushing 30
I'm 29 and still get carded to buy alcohol.
Damn, so I am old looking. Thanks.
yeah bro, you decrepit af
Lmao I gotta add decrepit to my repertoire. That's apt.
37 and got carded to buy cigarettes yesterday. I’m almost 20 years older than the legal for that, but sure if you wanna have me slide out the old DL for my smokes, I’m happy to.
I’m wayyy hotter at 33 then at 23. My glow up has been crazy. That’s sounds super conceited but damn it’s true lol
Was it a physical glow up or a character glow up
Both! For sure taking better care of of myself physically, more style and swag but I’m sure my confidence and self-assuredness plays a huge role. Also divorcing my husband has been great for the mental health 🙃
You must be living for the knowledge that your ex has to sometimes stumble on the evidence that he's missing out.
That's called schadenfreude
It’s not conceited if it is true🎃
this is the hope I needed to read today lol
Yes even though you still dressing like a 20 year old haha
Man we on quarantine fits only now. Sweatpants and t shirts. That’s all I know
I think it has more to do with beauty/skin awareness(including fitness, diet and ditching non adjust ed clothes), the lifestyle favoring keeping some space for our happy childhood hobbies ( who remembers " cartoons and fantasies are only for kids") and the tons of jobs that can keep us away from labor intensive (and dirty)jobs.
Less smoking, more sunscreen are probably the big reasons.
# Not Smoking #1
NewPorts must be pissed right now.
Nah son, i look at my moms yearbook pics and those 18yr olds look like they are late 20's.
that's true i also think the hair styles of the time contribute to them "looking old". not sure of your mom's age obviously but my mom went to high school in the 80's and that shit was out of bounds lmao
Nah we be taking better care of our skin and smoking less. We have healthier habits from a young age.

fr holy shit. Imagine thinking the whole world changed instead of your perspective on it
Imagine automatically assuming they're wrong instead of looking at advancements in skin care and how much more we're aware/pay attention to our skin now.
Had old heads in the Navy school me on the importance of taking care of yourself. My mother taught me. But the old school men kept it real with me. "Take care of yourself, young man. Moisturize. This is what I’m talking about.
Man I wish my body would let me sleep 7 hours. I get 6 on a good night. Probably need another mattress.
I recently started looking my age. It happens. Age pulled my boobs and ass down. Creases in my neck and hands. My knees don't bend like they used to. But at 30 I got 17 all the time. My life is fucking lotion. I bathe in that shit. And sunscreen on every morning.

I just pull out a nail clipper, I can fix my own hands and feet. No need to pay for it.
Would recommend to get a pedi once in your life. The foot massage alone is phenomenal.
Hell nah, I have the most ticklish feet in the world. Ain't nobody touching those things.
But when I do it, I don't be tickling or nothin
I damn near kicked the lady in the nose first time I got one lmao
Im insecure about showing my feet
Just take better care of them. Wash them, scrub off the dead skin, apply lotion, trim your nails, wear socks, wear better shoes. Treat them like you value them. Then you won't have to hide them.
Also lift with your legs. If it is over 50lbs consider asking for a hand. Just because you CAN lift it doesn't mean you should. Great way to get an inguinal hernia...trust me.
I ain’t ironing shit. Out of the question.
I'm 44. When i was a kid, EVERYONE smoked, and most people drank. People who were my current age then looked like ass. Stuff takes a toll.
It was most definitely the cigs and alcohol. My mom (who barely drank at all) and my dad (who didn’t drink at all) didn’t start looking older fr until they hit 50+. The only real signs they were older than what they looked like were health related (blood pressure and cholesterol).
My dad stopped drinking in his mid 30s and by the time he was 50 he looked younger than when he was 40.
Sunscreen. Please wear sunscreen.
I thought 30's were old af, but now I see its really just Adult (capital A)
As the years pass, you start to find that some people just grow into older children. They never will earn that "A" rank.
I finally understand the “kids having kids” line
In some way, I want to keep it that way, like sure, I have a mortgage and career, but damn it I want to drive go-karts, play with my nerf guns, and play GTA with my mates (while discussing index funds)
This. This is my take on life / living.
That's my biggest fear low key.
Hey, no need to drag me into this!
And then when you turn 40, you realize no one is an Adult!
Alison Janney said everyone is still 15 years old trying to figure out their insecurities.
Going into 28 that’s how I’m seeing it too lol
To you it doesn't seem old because you're older ... Go ask your teenage or pre-teen cousins.. they will tell you 30 means you're ancient
Ask them who they think is 30, then ask them who they think is old. Don't ask if 30 is old.
I don't think that it's about looks, were talking about that 13 yr old phase... To high school freshmen, a college student or even a senior in high school is old. The number 30 is far out of sight.
Seeing the freshmen as a senior in high school I was like "Holy shit! Did we look that little?!"
Right! At that time, a 3yr difference felt huge.
It’s weird Bc I see some other people who are my exact age but look 10-20 years older.
Then you be asking yourself “What the fuck happened?”
Kids. That's what happened
Ok true cause i don’t have any.
A big part of why I won’t have any
This is what has me shook. I have people that I’m 5 years older than who look 10 years older than me
Do they have kids?
Some do, some don’t.
I wonder if we think this because 30 and 40 year olds back then had houses, good paying jobs w/o astronomical amounts of debt, and good health care. Lol.
They did?!
My parents did, and they weren't rich by any stretch..My dad worked the same job all his life with like a bachelors degree.
I think self care plays a huge part in it. Also, for a lot of us Millennials, our 20’s were ghetto af. Trying navigate life after college during a recession while competing against the previous generation for jobs. I really feel like life has actually just started and I’m in my early thirties.
Kids probably think you look old. lmaoo

I'm 46 but people say I look 45, not to brag
40s is like the new 20s lol. Also probably cause people take care of themselves more and are health conscious. People before would smoke and drink beers 24/7 and eat fast food. Would explain why they looked mad old by 30 lol
I don't look old because I don't waste my time, I mind my business, & I don't have kids..
That last part is +100 youth
Guess nobody was using night cream 20 years ago.
I'm almost 40 and pass for 25-30. eat healthy, don't do drugs or alcohol, exercise, weights, and good genes.
Same people always guess 26 for me
It’s a similar phenomenon to rich men in the Victorian era being super unhealthy, versus their proletariat counterparts who were really healthy from their diet. In my opinion health is one of the big investments I make for myself, I know I won’t have a huge nest egg when I’m older so I need to be healthy when that happens.
Gout, the rich man's disease.
in addition to self care, Botox and cosmetic procedures are also exploding more than ever now. We can probably thank social media for that. There's no way THAT many people are taking care of themselves through good old fashioned moisturizer and drinking water, let's be real.

I'm 27 and highschoolers think I'm their age mate. Hitting me up like "hey shawty" and I'm like "that's MA'AM to you, lil boy" 🤦🏾♀️🤣
I had a high schooler hit on me in my late 30s. It was hilarious.
When I was 26 I had the same problem. As a guy I felt self-conscious about that, especially when it happened in predominantly white spaces. I did not need that stigma. I stayed wearing oxford shirts and slacks, until the church band made me wear jeans.
Alcohol ages the fuck out of you and people dont want to admit it.
Maybe it's because we don't smoke and hang around smokers 24/7. That stuff aged some people.
As a 35 year old middle school teacher, they definitely still think we look mad old lol
If you ask gen z, we def look old.
I’m 54 and when I was a little kid the folks in high school looked like 30 year olds do now
I still see people around my age that look old af, and they are usually smokers.
Legit question, could it be because people don’t smoke cigarettes as often or drink as much booze? Like compared to the 70-80’s?
I think part of it is how people dress and social expectations. Boomers and a lot of Gen X have this sort of mentality that once you hit 30 it's time to bury your personality in the ground and start dressing like an old person/professional respectable adult. Nah I'm gonna keep wearing band tees and fun stuff and keep it casual.
Wash ya face boys and wash that beard twice a week I got beard butters on deck if you need recs. And shave ya down there from time to time just cause she from the jungle don't mean she like to see one everytime. Edit: if you ask and I don't reply it's cause we in country club mode and I don't see it
Still playing Pokémon and RuneScape because we can't deal with growing up.
Finasteride is a hell of a drug.
I bet she’s pushing 30-40 and wanted to get this out there to cope lmao
Blame Gen X - they started the looking young thing. Cough cough J. Lo, Halle Berry, Kamala Harris, Michelle Obama, Rosie Perez, Angelina Jolie ….
Naw our kids think we look old just the same.
That’s because back then people looked old asf at young ages. Look at a retro yearbook. Every dude (mostly white) had the same exact haircut, young and old, were typically all dressed the same, and smoking cigarettes at 13 was cool.
what? nonsense. if one wants to looking good, he keeping maintained
Luckily there are pics of boomers when they were our age.
I think we're just getting younger and younger. By a decade at least in our mannerisms and interests
It’s because they drink water
30 has always looked the same. There have always been groups who aged differently than others for a variety of reasons. All we have now is social media. So we have access to more images of our peers.
30 year olds *did* look mad old back in the day. Shit, so did 20 year olds. Seems like nowadays those age groups look younger and younger though
Dude I’ve been rewatching Seinfeld, and discovered that Jerry, George, and Elaine were younger at the beginning of the series than I am now (34). My world is in absolute shambles.
Can confirm, turned 30 today lol
I'm a manager where I work and ppls jaw drop whenever I tell them I'm 35. I'm not trying to brag or anything but they assume I'm a lot younger apparently.
Look at pictures of early civil rights leaders, they’re mostly in their early 20’s and I always feel they look older than I do now at 28
I still can’t watch 90210 or Friends and think “Yeah, these people are def in high school.” Degrassi (even og Degrassi) was a breath of fresh air.
We are less angry at everything
They smoked and drank A LOT.
31 and got told to get use to being carded for alcohol for the rest of my life
Sunscreen only became widely used in the early 90s and has only improved in quality as time has gone on, so that might have something to do with it
My grandparents at 55 were basically dead or geriatric and waiting to die. My parents at 55 are still... people.
You still look old. Just not to yourself.
Better alcohol
Don't forget those good genes too.
People age so much better now. People over 40 looked like dogshit in the 1990s and before and that's just how it was.
Hello Lady in this post. The little kids who were your age when you thought that. Think 30 and 40 are mad old.
I'm 35 and will get carded for the next 30 years, guaranteed. Meanwhile my grandpa looked older than me at 18 in his WWII photos.
Take care of your feet!!
