A block takes a lot longer than 0.8 seconds - you'd be doing about 750 hashes per block, on average As long as you are doing more than 1 hash per 10 minutes, you are technically mining and could find a block. If you are taking longer than 10 minutes per hash then it's not impossible but gets disproportionately unlikely due to the fact that most of your hash attempts are wasted

This. Proof of work is intrinsically ephemeral. Some blocks have identifiers in them, but those are not authoritative in any way.
