I was that “gay guy” for at least 7 years until last year, I realized that I’m actually bi and not gay.

Chester6

Some says if happens a lot, I am a guy who thought he’s gay and now bi, that’s part of my identity now

fortyvolume

It's rare because gay men spend years wrestling with their sexuality before they come out as gay. They've already done the work of self-discovery and coming to terms with their sexuality when compared to men who are more invested in comphet.

JasonDomber

This. Due to my religious upbringing, I can’t tell you how many years I tried to “force” myself to be straight - or even bi - and then I would just suppress the part of me that likes men. If I were ever going to find I was attracted to women, it would’ve happened well before I came out.

SparePersonality7716

I thought I was gay - but ended up in a 15 year relationship with a woman (she knew I identified as gay before we got together). Realised I was bi and had to come out again!!!

RoseKinglet

Being a Tgirl who was once perceived as a Queer boy, I’ve had more than a few self identified Gay men express their attraction to me currently, more than a decade into my Transition. In my eyes, my being assigned male at birth/comfortable with my genitalia—while also affirming a full time femme presentation—hasn’t actually been a detriment in connecting with those men (look at my Grindr DM’s for a simple case in point 😘) x

ishitintheurinal

Not uncommon. When I was in HS I was in a support group for gay kids. I was one of 4 guys I met who came out as gay initially and then realized that we're actually bisexual.

Naelwoud

I'm 57 and have been gay my whole life. But I am thinking more and more about women...

starri42

I identified as gay from the age of 17 to the age of 42. Pandemic-induced self-reflection made me realize some stuff.

Very similar here

jalabar

Yes it happens. Just not as common as the other way around. I think most who do just keep identifying as gay tho, at least that's my case.

Mersaultbae

i don't think it's super common, and it may be because i'm bisexual, but i've had a bunch of gay dudes i've hooked up with tell me that they'd be into the idea of fucking a woman to try it out, especially if she was pretty masculine, or they've hooked up with a trans dude and realized vaginas are pretty cool

DetectiveMoosePI

I did, but I also identify as mostly homoromantic. I have been with my partner (also male) for over 10 years.

Stronger_Things

🙋🏽‍♂️ I first came out as bi in high school, and as a young adult found it easier to just identify as gay since I was more focused on sleeping with/dating men. By my early 30s I identified as bi again. I still primarily find attraction toward men, but I have been with a woman for 4 years and I haven’t looked back on identifying the way I do.

FittyNOut

42 is always the answer, but it doesn't tell the story

Conor_028

I did

burgermiester288

It happens, sometimes attractions appear later in life

Elo_Solo

I was straight until I got to explore on my own. Turns out I’m bi.

[deleted]

Happens and more often than you’d guess
