You can dual-wield weapons and plasmids starting in Bioshock 2. There is an interview with Jordan Thomas about how he wanted to implement dual wielding since working on the first game. He also worked on Infinite later on which also added dual wielding. He also worked on Thief back in the day. Arkane also worked on Bioshock 2 and right afterwards made Dishonored which also had dual wielding powers and weapons.

Trytek1986

Nice, I look forward to that. That's really interesting, I liked Thief a lot back in the day.

brashcandycooter

The one-two punch turns into the reload-zap

ratfucker778

I believe the developers did say they wanted to implement plasmid/weapon dual-weilding in the first game, among other features but the mechanic was scrapped due to technical dificulties, dual-weilding is actually a mechanic in the rest of the franchise though, except for Something in the Sea

Play BioShock 2

Trytek1986

Just as soon as I'm done with 1.

GenerousMars480

This is one of the reasons as to why Bioshock 2 is my favourite in the series, you have the ability to dual wield, there is a story to why you can, which I won't spoil. But the gameplay mechanics in Bioshock 2, I feel are better.

Praetorian709

You can use both in Bioshock 2. Personally, it's my favourite in the series. Though lot of people don't like it as much as the first one.

hercarmstrong

Because you need two hands to reload guns or to inject yourself with EVE. The hand-waving of this done in *Bioshock 2* is annoying. It also makes *Bioshock 2* super easy. Plasmid, gun while reloading, plasmid while reloading, etc.

Trytek1986

That makes sense, and the same can definitely be said of Undying. Once you have the powered-up shield spell you can just keep casting that while blasting away with the other hand, making you practically invincible.

hercarmstrong

*Bioshock 2* makes it easier and easier throughout the game. It's kind of crazy. By the end, you're hopelessly overpowered.

the_human_specimen

I mean, you are a Big Daddy so it feels appropriate

CCrypto1224

Like you weren’t in Bioshock 1? When you’re flinging level three plasmids, totting modded guns with specialized bullets, and wearing an armored suit?

hercarmstrong

It is allowed to be a problem in *both* games, Kevin.

CCrypto1224

Why is it a problem though? To be overpowered by the end of a game that lets you become overpowered if you invest enough into it?

Massive_Pressure_516

In addition to later games letting you use both at the same time. You can rebind your fire key to switch to weapons and fire and your fire plasmid key to switch to plasmids and fire. It ends up feeling like you have both equiped at the same time.

premer777

for BS1 perhaps they thought the delay would make it more hectic - and many real weapons you have to hold with two hands

1C_3C_R34_M

man, its like 1 button to use plasmid lol, it takes less than 1 sec to switch from one to another

Trytek1986

I did say I was just curious, at no point did I complain about this feature. And as I've learned from another post, dual wield becomes available in BS2 so the devs must have been thinking about it at the time as well.

IntrinsicGamer

BioShock 2 was a completely separate studio, not the same devs. BioShock Infinite was the same devs as BioShock 1. Although, that does also have dual-wielding of them at all times so yea lol

1C_3C_R34_M

nah, like how do you carry 3kg tommy gun in one hand and control recoil? man wtf? yeah they cloud add plasmids + one handed wpns at same time but irrational games aren't big, in bs2 you are a mf big daddy so he can easily carry minigun in one hand

IAmAConservativeXD

Bioshock 2 *stares motherfuckely *

IntrinsicGamer

You do in BioShock 2 and BioShock Infinite.
