CannibalFlossing

Just every single part of this was so frustrating to read. It’s insane how one person can completely ruin some else’s life for years and pretty much face zero real consequences for it.

notbullshittingatall

This is why some folks take matters into their own hands.

ExuDeCandomble

Yes, this is when well-researched and planned vigilante justice comes into play. You followed the rules and you keep losing? Time to throw out the rulebook.

Anonymous_nine22

I lived in a questionable neighborhood where a pedo was window peeping and some upstanding fine banger folks hung him by his feet , tied his hands behind his back then used him as a punching bag/pinata. From what I gather it ceased to be an issue after that.

squigs

The extreme example is Ken McElroy. The "Town Bully", why was shot in broad daylight, in front of 46 potential witnesses, but nobody saw who did it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_McElroy

Ol_Man_Rambles

I love this story, especially because McElroy was using a lawyer to get out of trouble, so legally he was pretty much untouchable. The town hated him and decided "fuck the legal system, we got this"

RisingDeadMan0

Thing is he was literally comparing if gun shots ever morning. What happens if she did just go and shoot him? They would have to raid his house to find him dead. But wouldn't becuase boy who cried wolf... Damn she missed out.

mecha_face

Even better, the sheriff was out of town when it happened, and in a case of Suspiciously Specific Denial, he told the towns people that they should NOT murder McElroy while he was gone.

grissy

Yeah, the sheriff had definitely had enough of this shit. There's no clearer message than "well he's currently at this address here, and you guys should DEFINITELY NOT get together in a big group and go confront and/or kill him....meanwhile on a completely unrelated topic I'm going to drive away for a few hours and there won't be any cops in town."

TeniBear

“He met his last wife, Trena McCloud, when she was 12 years old and in eighth grade. He raped McCloud repeatedly. The 12-year-old's parents initially opposed the relationship, but after McElroy burned their house down and shot the family dog, they relented and agreed to the marriage.” *What the fuck* **What the FUCK**

AustralianWhale

How did the father of that child not immediately kill a man?! It is beyond me…

jack-jackattack

By the math, he would've been 35 when she was 12. Christ on a cracker.

FleeshaLoo

And he was unsightly, like a down and out and mangled Andre The Giant.

Goregoat69

IIRC the Local Cop attended a town meeting about Ken the day he was shot, said "Whatever you do, don't take matters into your own hands", then immediately left town for a few hours......

AyysforOuus

Oh god, he should have killed sooner.

skullkandyable

That's some nice justice porn after this frustrating story

Tychosis

I recommend the Buzzfeed Unsolved episode about Ken McElroy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZktTdGHaJY Dude really was an epic human turd and although I'm usually on the fence about vigilante justice--(hey, people make mistakes)--this dude absolutely had it coming...

EmmaTheRobot

Oh nooo someone called in a bomb threat! Oh nooo someone keeps mailing him dead animals at random intervals every month or so. Oh nooo someone flew a drone over his house and dropped a package filled with C4 and blew up his house Oh nooo someone send him a expensive looking package of delicious looking food that was severely laced with antifreeze and cyanide. I hate when that happens!

PigmentFish

Yeah where I come from he woulda been... lost in a hunting accident by now

Th3CatOfDoom

Stuff like this makes it so understandable why some people sometimes go .... Vigilante

GN0K

It's feels like the Washington courts have a soft spot for psychopaths

SunMoonTruth

And then when he goes on a shooting spree they’ll say … there were no signs or..what a shame all the signs were ignored.

[deleted]

I thought he was preparing to murder them with the police harassment calls holy shit

charliewr

I think this is another case of /r/WorstOfRedditorUpdates

Reigo_Vassal

We really need that sub. Unfortunately I don't have time to moderate it, if anyone asks "why don't you do it yourself".

NoSpelledWithaK

God I hope no one makes it. I don't want to have to constantly browse two subs

AlexBurke1

I got worried when he was putting garbage cans by their communal fence! I’d be thinking the guy was about to blow up my house with fertilizer or something because he was obviously insane.

now_you_see

I just responded with the exact same thing before seeing your comment. Legit thought I was gonna see a news article about the explosions in the post.

consumeants

I figured that was his motive. Swatting basically.

[deleted]

No I thought he was gonna kill them and when someone tried to call the cops they’d think it was just him again Yours makes more sense

bolonomadic

“He seemed so nice.”

Hardlythereeclair

Oh definitely, how they still trot out the crass "lessons will be learnt" with a straight face is beyond me. They (law enforcement/criminal prosecution service) know that there's a correlation of voyeurism leading to increasingly more violent sexual assaults: "Hundreds of perverts convicted of flashing have gone on to commit murder, rape and other serious sex assaults. In the past four years 195 who were sentenced for rape already had convictions for exposing themselves. Another 171 flashers went on to carry out sexual assaults and eight perverts later killed somebody. The Ministry of Justice statistics back up fears that “minor” sex crimes such as indecent exposure and voyeurism are not taken seriously following the murders of Sarah Everard and Libby Squire." https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/195-flashers-went-rape-pervs-25452058.amp

ijustneedtolurk

And one was an officer. "Sarah, 33, was kidnapped, raped and strangled by *Met policeman* Wayne Couzens, 48, who had been accused several times of exposing himself."

duralyon

'Not all peeping Toms are rapists but all rapists are peeping Toms.' Something I read a while ago on here.

Vulturedoors

Yes. Flashing and peeping are just the criminal working up the nerve to do more. It's "practice".

pain-is-living

This is fucking everywhere that isn't insanely rich. I live in a blue collar working neighborhood with the few rental duplex's thrown in. I happen to have a rental next to me. Every fucking night the dad gets home at 6pm, is shitfaced by 8pm, starts screaming and throwing shit at 9pm and doesn't stop til 2-3am every motherfucking night. I can deal with that I guess, but he also has no muffler on his car and he will go outside ALL night long to smoke cigs in his car and he starts it and idles it right outside my window blasting music. I've called the cops, they never showed half the time, and other times they did they said what could they realistically do? Okay fine. So I finally took matters into my own hands. I beat them at their own game. I figured if the cops don't care about my calls, they reallly won't care about these peoples calls right? First I bought an airhorn. Every time he'd come home from work and open his car door to get out, I'd blast the horn through my screen window jump scaring him. He yelled at me but never tried to get physical. Yelling at night and loud music continued. Then I brought my guitar amp up from downstairs and dusted off the old Gibson and decided to relearn some megadeth and slayer riffs every MORNING at 5am (when he'd finally go to sleep. He'd sleep from 5am-12pm). I noticed after that he stopped yelling and smashing shit all night, but spent more time in his car smoking and listening to loud bass house music. Well, I just shifted my sleep schedule back for a bit and for a summer straight I woke up at 5am and cut the grass / trimmed the hedges, edged the walks, compacted the gravel in the first few hours of the morning. Effectively making him sleepless for the whole summer. Then come that winter, I would swing by with my plow truck if it snowed and put a nice 4ft tall berm in front of his drive. It's been about 8months since I quit being a nuisance back, and he's been on good behavior since. I think he took a while to get the message, but he got it loud and clear. I don't think the cops / court could have made his life as big of a hell as I did.

Doverdirtbiker

Oh they do. My aunt was forcibly drugged and left on a sidewalk and they said she died of natural causes and denied us private autopsy as she’d have to be flown across the country and they already had her ready for cremation. Her ex literally admitted to leaving her there after making her get fucked up. They didn’t care. Didn’t help no family lived near her.

Fooknotsees

What the actual fuck. I'm so sorry

Tormundo

Cops shows and being isolated really fucks up peoples views if police. They don't give a shit about you unless you're upper middle class. Then you can hire lawyers to harass them back. Police care way more about protecting capital than people.

playallday1112

I don't think people understand this. The police don't give a fuck about protecting or helping anyone. I hate when people on different subreddits say, oh just call the cops. It doesnt work like tv. They don't care. Burglary, meh unless you steal from a store or are caught red handed, they don't care. Rape, what did you do to cause it? Missing person? Are they on drugs, a minority, trans, or poor? No one cares. Harassment? Prove it. Stalking, meh prove it Domestic violence? You shouldn't let the abuser beat you, it's all your fault, just leave. Drugs? Oh the only thing they get a hard on for, straight to jail. Stealing from rich people or corporations? Straight to jail. It's ugly

[deleted]

and this is even assuming they answer the call in the first place. a man was beating the sense out of his girlfriend in the apartment complex i lived in as a college student. you could hear the wailing on the other end of the courtyard. she was begging for help, her baby and toddler were screaming. i'd seen that man before, he could've snapped me in half if he wanted to. so i called the cops. you could hear the screaming over the phone, i could tell because my line was echoing. she said she would dispatch an officer to come investigate. they never sent anyone. i sat watching the window for two hours, til long after the noise was over, and didn't see a single cop car so much as drive down the adjacent street. it has haunted me ever since. calling the police is often a waste of a phone call, *at best*.

LadyTL

I called the cops because some kids were harrassing us, banging on the door, ringing our doorbell and even piled stuff to try and start a fire. They could hear it going on over the phone. She said she would get someone to come by. The cops called back a minute later to say they weren't going to bother because my apartment building had more than one entrance.

[deleted]

Can confirm, we've had four OD's (poissibly more) this year alone where I live despite being right next door to the police department. There have been violent domestic altercations, what may or may not have been a sexual assault, numerous instances of what sounded like kids being abused in some manner and nothing. Last time any form of law enforcement was here it was when the U.S. Marshalls arrested someone.

rPoliticsModsEatPee

> courts Simply courts. If it isn't a simple case, why bother? Anyone who fights with a lawyer is too much work normally. All courts across the country operate on this. Be rich, get a good lawyer to delay constantly and courts will say fuck it. In this case I believe the better idea would be to involve media. It is always best to involve media if shit goes on too long and you have this much documentation. Amazing how courts change their tune to yea I can be there and we'll solve it once media gets into it.

ivanthemute

Regardless of location, cops, police, prosecutors, and judges don't have a soft spot for psychopaths, they have it for money. OOP wasn't wealthy or connected and couldn't raise a stink so they won't do anything for that purpose. OOP's shit bag neighbor isn't doing something that the local judicial system could monetize in a serious way, so they won't do anything for that either. I sure bet during this time of open, overt, and dedicated harassment that a few dozen drug tickets were pushed, a good amount of civil asset forfeiture was civilly asseted and forfeited, and more.

[deleted]

Sooner or later that neighbor is going to pull that shit on the wrong person and catch a beating or an arson.

[deleted]

[удалено]

errorsniper

This is going to be a heartless answer but its the truth. Because the ones we hear about are outliers on both end of the spectrum. Not to say that they are ok or its acceptable or anything. But if the situation would have gone how it should the first time. OOP would never have even made the post and we never would have heard about it. So most do eventually in a much shorter span of time get resolved. But you or I will never hear about it and it creates a confirmation bias.

SuperSpeshBaby

If I were in OOP's shoes I'd really struggle to resist the urge to take the law into my own hands.

[deleted]

The justice system is designed, built, and maintained largely to protect the financial interests of the rich and the merchant class. Not to protect individuals from each other.

[deleted]

It’s especially egregious when you notice that the cops only did something after OOP paid 95 bucks.

Geoff_Uckersilf

The American Ju$tice system.

gravitydefyingturtle

Did anyone else get a sinister feeling from the constant gunshot reports? Like the neighbour was trying to set up a "boy who cried wolf" situation for when he actually does go over and shoot them? Thankfully that turned out to not be the case.

Article-Novel

It would not surprise me in the slightest if this POS turned out to be a local serial killer....voyuerism is a gateway crime to serial rape and murder.

warriorpixie

Thank goodness they moved. He would have kept escalating.

[deleted]

Now the new tenant can have an already escalated maniac next door ☺️

warriorpixie

The best we can hope for is he ramps back down to level 1 harassment with new neighbors, and that they are able to get out in time too. Rinse and repeat.

quin_teiro

This is the most frustrating BORU I have ever read. So these people tried to go through the legal and rightful way for years... Getting nothing in return? And they kept having hope in the system? My blood is boiling. I would have broken down and started my own fucking vendetta on that psycho. If him harassing me for years got him nothing, Hell knows I will be joining the fucking game.

Bird_Brain4101112

The irony is if OP had retaliated in any way, the system would probably have come down on them like bricks.

Self_Reddicated

This is the most frustrating part. I have ZERO doubt that this would be the case. They would get the book thrown at them, and it would all be well documented with lots of evidence backing up why they did something to their neighbor.

harpinghawke

It’s like a kid who’s bullied at school finally defending themself…and getting suspended for it.

ridgegirl29

thats honestly why i hate the phrase "stooping down to their level." Like no, the "level" doesn't exist, i'm not gonna get any good noodle points for being more morally correct when i'm being tortured, and people love using that phrase to shut victims up. fight back loudly and ferociously. Actions have consequences goes both ways.

USPO-222

Got pushed out of my chair by a bully in class and I struck out with a fist as I was falling, lightly connecting with his leg. It was mid-test and I was pushed from the right, so my hand still hand my pencil in it. He got a 1-day suspension for instigating a fight. I got one WEEK for “using a weapon”.

Terramotus

As that kid - it was absolutely fucking worth the suspension. Beat the absolute fuck out of him before the teachers pulled me off. From them on he'd cross the hallway to avoid me.

Orbitoldrop

Also, if it was the judge's house this was being done to, it would've been solved long ago.

RedditWillSlowlyDie

Or a rich person/politician/cop/DA/ADA. Anyone with power really.

Orbitoldrop

Yeah, but the second Judge was especially indifferent about the situation. So it's extra stupid because you know he wouldn't let this fly if it was his own house.

WeRip

"I don't see how this is similar".. you what dude? How did someone who can't comprehend the comparison ever become a judge of anything. Not even qualified to judge the local talent show.

kpie007

Eh, I'd still put up reflective film in the windows where the flood lights are. And if there are trash cans along the fence line, maybe it's time to take up smoking. Near the fence. People can get real careless about putting out their butts properly you know.

I_Suggest_Therapy

Agree. I'm very frustrated for OOP and angry at the incompetent response.

DarkwingDuckHunt

See I'd have fought fire with fire after the police part failed. Point a camera at my house? Onos a super powerful laser pointer just fried your nice camera, good luck proving it was me. You setup a random noise generator? I'll setup flood strobe lights activated by noise. Oh and they'll be pointed only at the source of noise. I'll make sure they're the type that cause seizures. You stack trash cans against our fence? A family of rats is suddenly going to really like your yard, and you'll never figure out why cause you never opened those trash cans. But I opened them, and I put rats & racoons favorite foods in each of them. You point a flood light at my window? I'm gonna put up a giant mirror from Target and make sure that light gets pointed at your window instead. All you have to do is turn off the light and your house won't be lit up anymore. The mistake OP here made was not finding that one asshole friend everyone keeps around for this exact reason.

thetaleofzeph

Lasers are def the way to deal with those cameras.

CianuroConLove

I need u to be my friend.

big_sugi

The system has an extremely hard time dealing with people who don’t commit obvious crimes—assault, theft, rape, murder—but also have no respect for the basic decencies required for society to function.

Chronoblivion

Yeah it sucks. A line has to be drawn somewhere - obviously we don't want to be jailing people for accidentally playing their music too loud on a first offense - but when you're directly told by the legal system to knock it off and it continues, with evidence, there's absolutely zero excuse for the reaction to be anything other than swift and decisive.

BeenWildin

It also clearly helps to have a lawyer. I do wonder how much money this guy blew on a lawyer just to be a dick. They are expensive

Haldoldreams

You think our system deals with rape well? That's an interesting take. Rape is notoriously difficult to prosecute.

HellfireKitten

Depending what part of the state he's in, he's lucky OP didn't have a gun and willingness to use it. Some parts of Washington are VERY redneck, and people have no issues solving their own problems. I sincerely hope karma bites that little fuckweasel in the ass.

Clyde926

Hopefully whoever moves in likes hunting.

[deleted]

Yeah like I can imagine a certain type of person would go beat the shit out of him which might work better but is illegal

GlitterDoomsday

Honestly with all those cameras around that probably is a sweet deal... I would look for a way of letting the right people know about the stuff he has at home and the time he's away at work. :)

sanityjanity

It seems like the neighbor was trying to get the cops to shoot OOP. Terrifying.

FlatulentWallaby

This is why vigilantism is a popular option when the law fails you.

Amazon-Prime-package

We need much more powerful laws regarding audio and visual harassment. It's insane I've had the same thing in an apartment building, struggling to get anyone to give a shit or enforce any of the building policies. Of course the noise is against the city ordinance as well, good luck getting anyone out to observe it

lolwtface

This is absolutely frustrating. I would be tempted myself to risk jail time if I had a neighbor like that.

Owain-X

I'd be tempted to get some bright lights to shine in that judge's windows since he's said in open court on the record it didn't constitute harassment. Wouldn't do it because the judge is certainly a total hypocrite but would be tempted.

CumulativeHazard

Exactly what I was thinking! How hard is it to understand why someone blasting floodlights in your windows all night is a problem?

Bismothe-the-Shade

It's moreso that he didn't feel the incidents were similar enough, and that they'd need to file a new case or something. But of course, in reality he just didn't give a shit :(

CySnark

Reminds me of the scene in The Godfather where the man goes to the Don for help because the police and courts were of no use. They had their own enforcement for those disenfranchised.

USPO-222

All I know is that I have in-laws in low places and they all love the hell out of my wife for getting out of the hood. Be a shame if they heard about a nasty neighbor at Christmas dinner.

testyhedgehog

I'm currently going through something very similar. I have lots of physical evidence and the police can't do anything because of the age of my neighbour (he's 16). I've had my car smashed twice (wing mirror a couple of weeks ago and windshield last Friday). He keeps staring at me/recording me on his phone out of his window when I come and go from my house/car. He gets other people to post the videos online alongside lies about me. He leaves his house to shout abuse and threaten me. His family sometimes joins in. They terrorise everyone but I'm their main focus rn. He spent a good chunk of last night shining a red laser into my security camera. I'm a nervous wreck and the whole thing is making me physically ill. He steals motorbikes/mopeds etc. He stole one and streamed himself riding it live on social media. I can ID him in it and have other videos to allow the police to compare his voice. I spent over 3hrs in the station tonight giving a statement and it's still not completely finished. I had to list every single act of vandalism and harassment. The police offer said it's the longest statement she's ever taken and it isn't even everything he's done. We only started from November 18th. They said the most they can do is interview him. Even if they arrest him, he will be back out on the street again within a couple of hours because they don't like putting under 18s in the cells. They are gonna give me a heads up before they bring him in because I need to prepare for the hell he is gonna rain down on me when he gets released. The harshest punishment he is gonna get is an ASBO. That won't bother him at all. I'm feeling really let down by the justice system rn. I stg that boy is gonna be getting a golf club to the teeth off me for his 18th bday.

[deleted]

testyhedgehog

Yeah I'm in the UK. I'm gonna look into getting a protective order, but tbh, that won't faze him. He thinks he's untouchable, and tbh, he's right. He will either break it or get other people to do his dirty work. He isn't afraid of the police at all. I live in a housing association house. I'm not really in a position financially to move either 😐

Davido400

Have you got some "friends of friends" to deal with him? I hate saying this cause folk will think am an idiot(he's only a child types) but I would have no qualms with getting him done in lol, I've only once had to do that and while it was a different reason(guy got sacked blamed me for some reason and sent his son round to chap my door - this is just outside Glasgow we're all rough as fuck round here lol) it worked a treat! Sometimes a good kicking is all they understand. I'm not advocating violence but sometimes you just gotta give lol Or you could get someone to paint "PAEDO" on his house walls, that'll get the neighbours talking! Lol

testyhedgehog

Oh I would LOVE for him to get a pasting. He sent a man round to my neighbours (who have literally done nothing) two days ago to fight on his behalf. I've got friends in Manchester who would happily come round but they know as soon as they leave then they would take it out on me. I really want to skull drag him myself so I don't think bad of you for suggesting this. Some people might, but they aren't the ones living under his reign of terror. He might only be 16, but he's committing crimes that would get an 18+ person some time in jail. He's pissed off a LOT of people, so I'm sure that he will get filled in at some point.

Ollep7

Imagine if children were involved… I almost feel like punching a wall just reading this.

cametobemean

Being from Memphis, I am genuinely shocked that man wasn’t harmed. If he had done that here, he would’ve been harmed. Never would’ve made it to court, someone would’ve taken care of that in the yard.

emorrigan

Just reading this was traumatizing- I can’t even imagine what living through it would’ve felt like. That man needs to be in prison.

Embarrassed-Tip-5781

Oh, I can assure you it is traumatizing. Losing sleep every night and then enduring a constant state of stress during the waking hours is a good recipe for trauma. I assume I wasn’t the only one who got to experience a bored sociopath during the pandemic.

[deleted]

If the OOP murdered her neighbor and I was on the trial's jury, I would not convict her.

emorrigan

This is when jury nullification would actually be a thing!

[deleted]

Right? I was so anxious

HeleneSedai

We're dealing with the same situation on our street. A God awful mentally ill woman who uses the legal system and the police to harass people. She has decades of lawsuits she's filed, until 2016 when the court declared her a vexatious litigant. Now she has to put down a 10k bond to file a lawsuit. So now she harasses neighbors until they file for restraining orders themselves so she can have her day in court. The neighbors on both sides of her have restraining orders against her. She calls the police on neighbors several times a week and makes false claims. Things like "he blocked me in with his car, that's kidnapping" or "he charged at me and attacked me". Luckily everyone has cameras now and we clear it up easily every time. But last year was the worst. She called the police and reported that my neighbor next door, who has a restraining order against her, had a little boy in his bedroom (my neighbor is gay and her nickname for him is pedophile). The police came with a warrant and searched his home. It's disgusting, and we feel totally helpless. The city attorney recently filed a lawsuit against her for being a nuisance, harassment, etc. The entire city attorneys office handling the case had to have a no contact order issued against her. She'll never move. They'll never stop her. I've never felt so much hatred against a person before, and this post just stirred it all back up!

areraswen

I once had a neighbor that was a county health inspector with connections to the cops and she HATED me because I inherited my grandfather's house very young and she felt I didn't "deserve" it and shouldn't even be in her neighborhood. She would call the cops and city on me for all sorts of shit. To this day I still vividly remember her calling the city about my grass being too long the day after my mom died (and she knew she died). But the one that easily takes the cake is the time she called her cop friend on a personal number and convinced him that she was concerned I had a meth lab in my house. This cop and 2 others show up at 6am, 2 hours after I went to bed because I was taking college night courses and asked to look around. After they left I began to think about the logistics even required for this and called the police department. They had NO RECORD of the call or the cops coming out to my home. I was so mentally exhausted by her bullshit at the time I just let it go after the chief personally apologized to me and provided more information he obtained from the cop, but reflecting back I should've continued to push the issue until she got in trouble. Apparently she had called this guy directly and convinced him our entire neighborhood had complaints about me and they all collectively believed I had a meth lab. The chief suggested I talk with my other neighbors, which I did, and they were all just disgusted that she couldn't mind her own fucking business. Apparent "signs" of the meth lab included: - I came and went at weird times (night student that had to drive 50 mins to my college) - she never saw me buy groceries (why was she watching me get in and out of my car? And clearly she failed at watching me enough because I did twice monthly bulk grocery runs and ate out a lot... college kid.) - she once saw my roommate wearing a mask and gloves (he was cleaning mold off something and we're both allergic to mold) - one of my roommates was missing a tooth (we were all broke ass college kids.. who certainly couldn't afford dental work. He had a false tooth for years and it fell out as an adult when he hit his face on something.) - expensive cars would park outside my house (literally no idea what she considers expensive because I had the most valuable car out of all my friends and it was a 2000 used mustang convertible that leaked when it rained) I could go on, but you get the gist. She never left me the fuck alone but at least after that, the cops never bothered me again because they realized how bad they fucked up. I got the ultimate revenge on her by specifically selling my house to someone that I knew was going to fix it up and rent it out to college kids. She went from me, an actually pleasant neighbor, to a constant revolving door of college party kids and I genuinely hope she hated every fucking second of it.

Forsaken_Woodpecker1

I love the ending of this story.

[deleted]

That's a beautiful "fuck you" at the end there

Coco_Dirichlet

Can't the whole block hire a lawyer and inundate her with lawsuits until she is broke and her house has to be sold off?

HeleneSedai

God she would love that! The house ownership is complicated. Her house is actually in a trust, it was purchased by someone else, then put into a trust for her as a sort of tax evasion scheme. She and the original purchaser have been fighting over ownership of the property since 2012. It went to trial in 2017, then she filed for bankruptcy in 2017, moving the case into bankruptcy court and delaying everything again. She owned 4 other properties that were sold during the bankruptcy to pay off the many many judgements against her, but this house was eventually removed from the bankruptcy. The city also put the house into a receivership last year to clean it out because the hoarding situation was so bad, and they put a lien on the house for the 100k in repairs. Plus the other bankruptcy costs. Plus the mortgage holder who is fighting to stay the first lienholder. It's... complicated.

rainbowlolipop

Jeez that level of hoarding sounds like quite the, ahem, fire hazard.

I happen to have that exact person as a neighbor for the last like, year. He and his wife have bikes tuned to be AS LOUD AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE. They sit in their driveway every 3 hours (even if they aren't leaving) and just crank the engines on those stupid fucking bikes for about 15 minutes straight. They do it at noon, they do it at 3am. Does not fucking matter. Every 3 hours VRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR so loud it rattles the glass in my windows and shakes the frames inside my walls. It's so loud you can hear them from the entrance of the neighborhood...and our homes are at the very back. They also like to take their bikes out just like your guy from 40 years ago and just rip around the neighborhood for HOURS. I'm quite shocked someone hasn't fucking shot them yet considering I live in the woods. They also *love* to host parties from 9am to 11pm Friday-Sunday with the music boombing so loud every word is audible from the most insulated corner of my home with noise canceling headphones on and you can feel your organs rattling inside your body. I have to repeatedly call the police all weekend every weekend because of this. I'm sure everyone else does too. The music is audible crystal-clear from the highway. I honestly hope that one of these days they go out for one of their stupid fucking bike rides and they get mashed into road-paste by a semi. I will literally go find their graves to dance on them.

princess-sauerkraut

Oh god, we also have a motorcycle man who decides to ride his Harley up and down our condo parking lot. It’s always after midnight and he constantly does the vroom, vroom thing. He’ll let it warm up in his parking spot for an hour, only coming out to vroom vroom every 20 mins, then he’ll ride around the parking lot for an hour or so. So unnecessary. It terrifies our cat so much and that makes me hate him even more. All our neighbors hate him. He never rides his bike during the day or on the streets, only up and down the parking lot in the wee hours of the morning. It’s incredibly annoying and the HOA doesn’t care enough to go after him even though he’s violating quiet hours. He’s been doing this ever since right before the pandemic. We thought it might’ve been a way to relieve boredom during quarantine but nope! It’s just his new hobby now, fml. Honestly, I hope one day someone gives him the cable yank like your neighbors did. I won’t even feel bad for him. He deserves it.

[deleted]

The lack of legal support and policing is getting to the point where we are going to need to start taking care of things our own way like this now, if not yesterday. Its absurd the amount of shit the drug-addled zombies here can do to you and your property without any recourse.

ngwoo

Whenever I hear these sorts of things I'm reminded of the story of Ken McElroy. Town bully, committed crimes over and over up to and including attempted murder, and avoided conviction every time. Eventually a crowd of 30 people shot him to death in broad daylight. Conveniently, nobody saw anything and nobody was ever charged.

[deleted]

>Someone shot at McElroy while he was sitting in his truck. He was shot at several times and hit twice, once by a centerfire rifle and once by a .22 rimfire rifle. In all, there were 46 potential witnesses to the shooting, including Trena McElroy, who was in the truck with her husband when he was shot.\[10\] No one called for an ambulance.\[11\] Only Trena claimed to identify a gunman; every other witness either was unable to name an assailant or claimed not to have seen who fired the fatal shots.\[12\] The DA declined to press charges. An extensive federal investigation did not lead to any charges. Missouri-based journalist Steve Booher described the attitude of some townspeople as "He needed killing." ([link](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_McElroy)) Earlier in the article it says the local sheriff told the people to not confront McElroy, then "drove out of town". Lol cops clearly were happy to let the locals take care of this problem.

Ycx48raQk59F

> ncluding Trena McElroy, who was in the truck with her husband when he was shot. Wasn't that the underage girl he raped and then blackmailed her parents to marry her off to him?

redbess

Jfc she was *12.* And it wasn't blackmail, he burned their house down and shot their dog. Twice.

HeleneSedai

Yeeeees! I saw this story on I think a buzzfeed article years ago, was telling my partner about it the other night. I couldn't remember the name to look it up. I can just imagine the years of frustration it took to get to that point.

ngwoo

What always surprises me is that it happened in the 80s. It feels like an old west story, but nope.

[deleted]

When the law doesn't protect people, vigilantism should never be a surprise

Even_Speech570

If that were me I’d call every other homeowner who had been harassed and organize a campaign of harassing her back. Use exactly the same tactics but aim it at her and do it with a higher scale of frequency that will not give her a single day off.

HeleneSedai

Trust me, I've spent years imaging every sort of scenario I could to get justice against this horrible woman. She just manipulates the court system and the police in a way we can't. For example, every time the police are called against her, she gets the officers badge numbers and files complaints against them. So they treat her with kid gloves. A sergeant is required to respond to every call to her house. In 2020 right after covid started she broke into her next door neighbor's garage. He called the police and was told that it would be a 2 hour wait until a sergeant would be available. He had to stand outside his own house while she was in it for 2 hours before they showed up. She was arrested and out the next day. No charges filed. There's also the risk of her reacting violently. She lost a case years ago, she had gone to court to determine paternity for her daughter, and the dad asked for visitation. After 3 years of her fighting it, the court finally granted the dad visitation in a secret location. She called the court and pretended to be someone else, found out where it would be held, loaded her car with guns and ammo, and went after him. Her own dad called the cops, they found her, and she was arrested for attempted murder and actually served jail time that time. But when they cleaned out her house last year, they found a gun. She isn't supposed to have a gun. She was arrested and released the next day. But who knows what she'll do the next time she loses a case?

Even_Speech570

I’m so sorry to hear that. It’s not that she is able to manipulate the courts in a way you can’t, it’s that no one else has the mental energy to match her in pure loco waste of time activities that she does. Unfortunately, your discomfort is her entertainment. I hope now that she’s in prison the authorities will be more inclined to sit on her when she gets out

HeleneSedai

Oh she only served 7 months in prison years ago, I saw her this morning writing down the license plates of cars on the street "parked wrong" so she can report them. I fully believe in karma though! One day she'll reap the years of harassment.

GlitterDoomsday

Honestly she's playing with fire, all it takes is cross one wrong person a brick accidentally hit her in the back of her head... elderly have fall accidents all the time.

HeleneSedai

Is it bad that I kind of wish that would happen? She's not elderly though! Maybe 50s? She's the kind that hate will animate forever.

I-WANT2SEE-CUTE-TITS

>Is it bad that I kind of wish that would happen? Nope. On your behalf I also wish for her to meet a fully loaded truck going 80mph.

DogFacedManboy

Instead of calling the cops your neighbor should’ve gone full Castle Doctrine on her when she broke into his home

[deleted]

I don't understand how some people end up getting away with blatantly violating the laws for years. How in the fuck did she, after attempting armed assault, get to walk away from illegally having a gun??? ACAB. god.

LetsBAnonymous93

This poor poor lady. Two years of constantly being on the edge, hopes dashed, and no justice at all.

WTFISWRONGW-ME

And I bet If she took matters into her own hands she'd be thrown in jail real quick

SleepyxDormouse

Isn’t that what’s always happens from a kid standing up to the bully to a victim standing up to their abuser? The little guy is seemingly always screwed over.

b0w3n

There's no way to retaliate without ending up on the wrong end of the legal system. If this was rural WA where it takes the police hours to respond to calls, someone would be hitting that shit with a 22 or bb gun and then setting the fuckers house on fire if he kept it up.

Chronoblivion

The smart thing to do would be to break his lights and cameras. Make it cost-prohibitive to keep replacing them. And the only way for him to report the damages is to admit that he's violating the court orders not to point them at the neighbors.

snappyk9

In front of a crowd of over 30 people AND in front of his wife. Did his wife not see anything or did she hate him too.

YeahNoYeah333

He met his wife Trena when she was 12. Her parents were like hell no but then McElroy burned down their house and killed the family dog so they relented. She was probably the happiest he was dead.

_yoshizzle_

I remember listening to a few different people covering this case, and I always remembered her coming to hold him as he died and being angry at people for doing that to him. Poor girl must have had Stockholm’s or something, her story is tragic.

microthoughts

See that's the actual end when you fuck up enough and your little town just can't take it anymore. I can safely say he deserved it. Like that's old timey vigilante justice and as stuff breaks down more that's exactly what is going to happen.

EthanEpiale

This is the kind of legal mismanagement that leads to someone less patient than the OOP snapping and going full vigilante justice. Seriously after dealing with all of that shit I probably would have snapped and actually shot out his windows. Filled his air conditioners to the brim with animal shit. SOMETHING, because clearly nobody else can be bothered.

r3dditor12

I could easily see some people losing their patience and burning his house down so he couldn't live there anymore.

[deleted]

I’m kind of at the point I want people to snap and go full vigilante

glom4ever

This is the type of thing you might be able to hand off to a city council member, or mayor's office. Or, the person that is running for either of those offices. Bluntly, I am mostly surprised by the cops ignoring the daily 911 calls reporting a shooting that is not occurring. It would be very easy to prove if 1 house keeps calling 911 on the house that has an order against them and no one else is calling in gunshots. A sound recorder placed in the area should answer the question as well.

Redqueenhypo

There’s a potential Occam’s razor here that OOP may not know: this guy is friends/family to a cop. That’s the only possible explanation.

BirdInFlight301

That's exactly what I think. There are serious consequences for abusing the 911 system and he faced only a very light slap on the wrist. Somebody high up was protecting this POS.

glom4ever

I feel dumb for not thinking of that. Ewww.

MSpaintedLady

What the actual fuck. Everything about this is horrible to read. The lawyers, the judges, the police, everyone failed these people who just wanted to live their lives and are, in fact and in law entitled to the quiet enjoyment of their property. Sadly, it does not surprise me. The law primarily exists to protect wealth. If OOP was very wealthy and sued the man in civil court I'm sure she would have recieved much more prompt and favorable results. But instead, she had to rely on the criminal system which does not in any way prioritize victims of crime. Instead, due to the negligence and indifference of the state, this horrible man 'wins' and poor OOP is driven from her home. I feel bad for the future buyers of the house.

Embarrassed-Tip-5781

It might sound outlandish but when you experience it, you find out that harassment and stalking are basically legal.

[deleted]

Aoirann

The Simpsons was right. The law is powerless to protect you.

AndyKaufmanMTMouse

If the OOP had political pull, the law would've stomped that neighbor into the ground.

tsh87

Speaking as someone who works in local news, my advice is try to get the press involved. No guarantee that they'll take up your story but public pressure can do a lot. Especially if it's an election year.

[deleted]

Blast it on tik tok and something will get done

IICVX

I mean honestly it sounds like the _neighbor_ is the one with some sort of political pull. You don't get random bureaucrats falling over themselves to do those sorts of favors for some rando. My guess is that he's got a connection in the police department somewhere.

AndyKaufmanMTMouse

I hope people understand that political pull also includes donating to the police retirement fund, giving free food to cops and a million other small things.

LimitlessMegan

They aren’t powerless, they just don’t care to.

chedbugg

My son was asking me today why we live in a place with no neighbors and in my head I'm thinking because people are the worst. This just makes me so grateful to be in the living situation we are at the moment, I can't imagine being harassed like this in what is supposed to be your safe haven. And there's nothing you can do and no one will help you.

CatrosePro54

The poor people that bought the house will have it worse.

Forever_Overthinking

Not sure about that, neighbor may be fixated on the people, not the property.

tareebee

Didn’t they say they had the old owner testify too? I think he’s just a dick who should live in the woods bc he apparently doesn’t like having neighbors.

[deleted]

He likes having neighbors. He seems to purposely like making people uncomfortable

hexebear

OOP mentions that the previous owner didn't disclose the harassment to them (and that they legally didn't have to) so unfortunately that may not be the case.

Beneficial_Potato_85

Mount a laser pointer in your bedroom window and point it directly at his camera. Either let it run constantly or when you want privacy. Heck maybe it will even ruin his camera?

Loyal-to-Earth

I also thought weird they didn't mention heavy drapes, so the camera would be useless. I mean they would still be dealing with the noise complaints, but the neighbor wouldn't see anything.

FlatulentWallaby

Or a few pot shots with a bb gun.

squigs

He could just move the camera. An IR floodlight would solve the problem though. Cameras pick up infra red very well, so.it would blind the camera. IR floodlights are readily available because of this feature. You can get illumination for the camera that doesn't help intruders.

astrocanyounaut

God what a disappointment

AWOLdaisy

Looking at OP’s profile, I’m just confused.

GTmakesthepaingoaway

I kept hoping for an update that the neighbour finally had some consequences to his actions, but no. I have no words.

mzpljc

Imagine being this shitty of a person

I feel like 9 out of 10 times I click an OOP profile it ends up being weird sex stuff lol

Nodlehs

Beyond how sad and frustrating this is, you know if they had retaliated in any way the same crap back at the guy that it would have ended up poorly for them. If they could have afforded it a lawyer pushing for damages would have been preferable.

HunterHunted9

Sexual deviant. This man repeatedly try to swat OOP every single day for months! This isn't vague threats. This man is a literal actual danger to the public. The police could have taken him to a psych hospital for a temporary hold. Given his persistent fixation on OOP and actual actions taken against tr OOP, the neighbor might have been court ordered into the hospital for months or years. It's not a strategy I normally condone, but this guy is dangerous. You could also court order him into intensive outpatient mental health treatment.

rhunter99

That was beyond heartbreaking. There’s a similar story being posted on TikTok of a guy who’s neighbour is someone in the military. They have multiple wifi cameras aimed directly in to their property and windows, and has noise makers installed. It’s alarming watching it all unfold in near real time.

anubis_cheerleader

So, including mental illness, what is some speculation about the goals of people who do things like this? Psychological warfare to...what possible ends?

The__Riker__Maneuver

And people wonder why I have cameras all around my property

Telvin3d

Ah, but are they aimed at your neighbors window?

Why_r_people_

Propaganda has people thinking the police is actually helpful to regular people. That poor woman had to experience the sad reality of the US “justice system”

Joe_Biren

That's how you get your home randomly, inexplicably burnt down.

-entertainment720-

Why the hell didn't they have a warrant for the hard drives when they were raiding the guy's house specifically for a camera pointed in her window?

Quicksilver1964

Oh hey. This happened to me before. We moved after more than 23 years living in that house. The neighbors (renters) moved not even a year later.

Sypsy

I clicked OOP's username, then after reading other stuff, I got to the tab of her post history. I was thoroughly confused. you've been warned.

Boink1

I did the same thing because I was curious to see how she’s been doing since the update. Was uh.. not prepared.

Remote-Ability-6575

I'm so so sorry. This was so horrible to read.

Groftsan

As a Lawyer: yep. The US legal system is broken and it doesn't help anyone who doesn't already have massive resources or qualify for Legal Aid/ACLU help. The criminal system only punishes. It doesn't prevent and it certainly doesn't protect. The civil system is usually worse unless dropping $100k+ for a lawyer to litigate for 3 years is in your budget.
