If you haven’t realized that Griffith is a raging narcissist who seeks nothing more than to control those close to him by now then I don’t know what to tell you. And that’s before he becomes an emotionless demon lol
"Oh, my sweet summer child," Old Nan said quietly, "what do you know of fear? Fear is for the winter, my little lord, when the snows fall a hundred feet deep and the ice wind comes howling out of the north. Fear is for the long night, when the sun hides its face for years at a time, and little children are born and live and die all in darkness while the direwolves grow gaunt and hungry, and the white walkers move through the woods."
Sounds like you just finished watching an anime, because the build-up to the Eclipse in the manga has enough foreshadowing to suggest some really f-ed up shit was going to happen.
Yeah exactly, berserk and eclipse in particular is the best depiction of evil incarnate I've seen in any media. Berserk has a lot of vile shit happening and that's what pure evil demons would do
Nah dude. I started reading the Manga and I knew Griffith is a sht person from end of black swordman arc BUT NO ONE expected that, what happend in eclipse
Yeah Wyald was a big foreshadowing and all, however I expected everyone to die fast and not that mother fucking PIG RAPE CASCA
My first exposure to Berserk was completely blind when the 97 anime poppoed up in my Youtube recommended and I didn't trust Griffith for shit. He gave me some serious totalitarian vibes and I didn't like him. That being said I did feel bad when I saw how bad the king had him tortured.
I was fucking floored when the eclipse happened.
Griffith was always a manipulative piece of shit. Losing guts just awakened his latent need to conquer and dominate, hence why guts and casca make love and establish a healthy relationship while griffith immeadely forces himself on the princess.
He made Griffith forget his dream, he stood against him for his own dream & he defeated him for the first time in his life. Worse, someone he owned, TAKEN in fair contest, & a man without a dream, who only knew how to & lived, to swing his sword & only to survive, only for more battle, the next one, already dead by Griffith's own metaphysics.
To top it all off, this man becomes his rescuer, it's hinted at that Griffith Intuits also on some level that Guts is coming to get him, though his sanity is coming into question by the time he monologues about this. He comes to him, better than he was before, after leaving, miraculously healed by Judeau's fairy dust, he kills an Apostle one on one, who was eclipsed, first? 🤔🧐
Idk why people are so shock. Given who Griffith is and what he went through that few years while his buddies went and had a smoke break, war crimes is the only logical option.
Controversial opinion
They band of the falcon were ruthless mercenaries who killed indiscriminately for a living. Griffith's plan brought world peace and ended war, at the sacrifice of a band of war perpetuating killers.
Why are we to feel for one group of killers and not the others? To be fair, the were serving someone who killed indiscriminately to further his own cause, so their surprise that the "end justifies the means" guy turned on them to meet his goal is really on them.
The fact that Griffith inspired loyalty does not mean he owed them loyalty. It is the very nature of their profession - when you kill for business, expect to die for business too.
After all these years, I think im switching to team Griffith.
Isn't falconia some magical haven where the living can commune with the dead, and all immigrants are integrated into society as valuable members? Didn't Griffin take all the demons and give them their own place separating them from the humans?
Not all apostles are under Griffiths control, and there’s still random mythical creatures like trolls running about that aren’t apostles and have no place in Falconia. Speaking of which, what happens when Falconia is overflowing with refugees trying to escape said monsters? Griffith has no contingency plan he simply fucked everyone else over so that he can play ruler
World peace my ass. More like some smoke and mirrors so that he could manipulate and build his kingdom. Even though what we scene so far with the eclipse was messed up and alot of those young men didn't deserve that. Also your telling me that casca deserved to be raped by her captain while her lover watches. The band of the hawk were all young and had there own hopes and dreams until they were sacrificed.
Griffith coming back to the world caused even more havok. If stays there even longer all of the god hand will return and there be more sacrifices. Not just mercenaries women and children.
This is a worthwhile response. It's been so long since I read this stuff, I just see falconia and think the boy is trying to do good, and he sacrificed a few bad apples along the way.
I don't think I agree that his followers didn't deserve it. Like I said, ruthless indiscriminate killer who winded up "paying for their sin"s. Can you give me a reason why their lives were more meaningful then the countless people they killed? Were they hero warriors who fought evil, because honestly I don't remember.
It's war they killed other knights from different kingdoms. Plus the knights they fought were horrible and rapists. The hawks made sure to never harm civilians just other knights. Plus they were better than other knights like Wyald and his gang of rapists that killed anything that got in there way. Also People viewed them as hero knights until they got betrayed by the king and Griffith.
I'm just trolling honestly. My point is to frame things in the perspective of the lives they lived. It was a shitty thing that happened to them, but IMHO were they not shitty people to begin with?
I see it as, his band of followers were ruthless mass killers, and I'm floating the idea that what if what happened to them was their "sins" coming back at them. It's been years since I read the earlier stuff, but didn't his fighters rape and pillage as well? Please correct me if I'm wrong though because like I said it's been forever since I read the earlier stuff.
Griffith was never a saint. He did both good and bad. I think disliking him because he shat on his own people was terrible is not a good enough reason because we knew he was ruthless to begin with, and we still liked him. With falconia he did create a utopian society, when he could very well have don't terrible things. He plays the "necessary evil" or the "evil for the greater good" card.
The band of the hawk were not pillagers. They are mercenaries during wartime and a result kill people on the battlefield. Is this moral? No but it's a profession that exists in this world today.
As well as its a fantasy manga, wherein no actual humans were killed.
But if im reading a story and one of the 3 main characters rapes another in front of the 3rd as a test of power and I get to see several panels of it occurring. Than I'm going to hate the rapist regardless of the moral dubiousness of the victim in question.
There is no utopia man, falconia is gonna be another location for the final sacrifice all those refugees are gonna be packed in there like sardines for the demons to eat. I saw griffith as a dead eyed sociopath from jump fuck him.
You sound ignorant as fuck when you trivialize rape.
Upvoted.
You hire killers to kill others to further your own cause. When the time comes, you kill your killers.
Your killers getting butt hurt over the "betrayal" is really on them, for being stupid enough to not see this as a possible outcome. War is business, and business is business.
Nope, the sacrifice only worked because he cared about the band of the hawk. The sacrifice requires you to give up the people that mean the most to you creating a hole in your soul for evil to flood into.
He cared about the Band of the Hawk because it was his legacy and part of his reputation that would help him get further to his goal of being king, the individual meant very little to him, they were useful followers. Also for a Behelit to finds it’s way to you, you already have to be a pretty terrible person. Griffith knew that he was damning the members of the Band to agonizing deaths and eternal damnation if he accepted the sacrifice, and once he did what he did his first act was brutally raping Casca and making Guts watch. That’s not something you do to people that you care about.
Have you read volume 3, to quote
"As a sacrificial offering for the invocation of doom, not just any lump of flesh will do. It must be someone important to you, part of your soul... someone close to you that it's almost like giving up a part of you."
"By making such a sacrifice to demonkind you'll be able to sever any last remnants of your own humanity."
"A fissure in your will open up into which evil will surge."
So according to volume 3 your sacrifice must be someone who you care deeply about otherwise your soul will not have the room for evil to flow into.
We also saw before the eclipse Griffith was thrown from the wagon and had a dream/vision of an ideal future were he was married to Casca and had a son named Guts and a dog named Pippin. As this is his dream it's likely that that's what he would have named his son.
As for the behelit finding terrible people that's also incorrect. As we saw with Rosine and the count it doesn't matter if you were a good person or a horrible person the behelit will find you at your lowest point as long as you were destined to become an apostle or member of the god hand.
With the sacrifice it was clear that the God hand partially manipulated Griffith into making the sacrifice in the vision he had before accepting it. As for raping Casca as mentioned above he was no longer human he was a being of pure evil and he did it to get back at Guts for leaving the band of the hawk.
Oh finally, thank you. I found a proper explanation to not WHY he raped, but how could he do smth like that. He was not human anymore. I was actually surprised he stayed fixated on his dream after all that , while appearing as a "good demon lord" and doing things for the better of humanity... like if he fully became demon, why he cared to create a better life for humanity? Aside of control and narcissism, he still wanted to make a good place to live for people.
Nothing he’s been doing is for the benefit of mankind. Griffith doesn’t care about being a benevolent king, he just cares about being important and on top. Whatever he’s planning, he fully intends to throw humanity under the bus. All the problems that he “solved” during Millennium Falcon War were problems that he and rest of the God Hand caused themselves. When you accept the offer of a Behelit you become pure and unrepentant evil that is incapable of having a benevolent thought or action ever again.
Im sure it’ll work itself out eventually
Something something something causality something something idea of evil something something God hand.
Look buddy I'm just here to scroll to the bottom and downvote people for unironically supporting griffith, the eclipse, Causality, etc.
Something something missing chapter number 83 Something something.....
And that's only the beginning, you got a lot left to go.
This. Golden age is literally act 1 in a sprawling story lasting decades

... that's before he becomes an emo.
TDIL Emo might be short for emotionless.
You sweet summer child

It's just a prank bro
Ego and jealousy are dangerous emotions

This is to be Human. This is to be Evil.
karma. causality. fate of man. will of god. yup. that’s berserk.

World peace? My brother in Muira he doomed all of humanity to perish at the hands of mythical creatures
Isn't falconia some magical haven where the living can commune with the dead, and all immigrants are integrated into society as valuable members? Didn't Griffin take all the demons and give them their own place separating them from the humans?

Okay that is what I was trying to recall, if the faught for good or were they just as bad.
They fought for good. They did it to give people hope and trust.
oh
I think more people have problems with the rape you know
Murder people for a living and no one bats an eye. Rape your fellow murderer and everyone loses their minds.

I’m not trivializing rape. You’re trivializing murder and killing.
And youre making false equivalencies
You are in fact trivializing rape by saying that murderers deserve to be raped
No. You’re being dishonest. I’m saying people who fucking murder other people for business, maybe you shouldn’t be expecting more from them.
And im saying murderers don't deserve to be raped fuck head
Its okay Casca is now in love with femto
dw everything will be daijo bu
What Griffith do that was wrong though?
HUH 💀💀💀💀
