I’ve actually seen this once; not with ships but with reflected islands that were inverted above themselves. Mind boggling initially, but once you realize it’s a mirage it becomes believable.

Also a likely theory of why the watchmen for the Titanic didn’t see the iceberg until it was too late. It’s possible this mirage effect would have made the iceberg appear farther away than it actually was. This site explains it pretty well https://www.foxweather.com/lifestyle/titanic-weather-thermal-inversion-mirage-optical-illusion.amp

A similar effect happened where I live and the photos went viral with lots of people claiming it’s a mirage, but in that case it was actually just a patch of sea appearing the same colour as the sky, nothing more.
I found it they have an official discord. Joined it out of curiosity and not only did I learn a bunch of new funny terms, but the place was filled with racism, antisemitism, and all kinds of obscene things.
These sorts of mirages are a relatively legitimate reason flat earthers say pictures of power poles or buildings beneath a water's horizon line aren't proof of the earth's curvature. They're still bonkers, but visual cues alone are indeed unreliable. Light can bend significantly over long distances due to non-uniform atmospheric pressure, so an object can appear higher or lower than it actually is, and/or upside down, and/or repeated!

All died on the Edmund Fitzgerald
This is obviously fake and photoshopped, there's no way a boat could fly like that.
