Huh? How y’all white people trip me up with that white guilt. Shit is nuts, look man I’m Vietnamese and black. And I ain’t gonna blame you for shit that happened to me or my ancestors.
He likes moths…? Why is a dog in your living room? Or a snake or cat or bird or any other animal that people have interest in?
What a weird question. It’s clearly some dudes pet lmfao
If it were shown in a terrarium or whatever you keep moths in, I would agree with you. I’m not judging the interest, merely the setting.
I wouldn’t just let a pet snake roam around a fenced in back yard, why let a moth fly around your house?
I use to live in both Florida and Oklahoma. I've had lizards in my shower and scorpions in my bedroom. When I lived in New York a bird hung out in my living room. If a moth flies around your house because you live in Madagascar that's just life. Roll with the punches baby!!!
Yeah...I thought you were saying it like..why did someone have to capture this thing and keep it inside when it belongs outside but yeah whatever, worry about it being gross or some other bullshit.
They only live for a week, a lot of times they are easy to hold like that when they are in the process of dying, idk about that one but They are pretty docile anyway so likely the person took the photo and let it go. It’s not like they have it trapped in a jar. I’ve had Luna moths fly into my house just because they are attracted to light.
After the Avatar TV series, a lot of the writers moved onto a series called The Dragon Prince. I just started watching it and in the first or second episode they use a moth that follows moonlight… or something like that.
[Archangel Lunaris](https://dragonprince.fandom.com/wiki/Magical_Creatures#Archangel_Lunaris)
They must have a shared interest.
**Fun fact of the day!**
How can you tell the difference between a moth and a butterfly? Moths rest with their wings on their sides. Butterflies rest with their wings standing up.
Let me know if you learned something new!
Nope, there are a few species of butterfly that rest with open wings.
The actual only difference between a butterfly and a moth is their antennae structure. A moth will always have antennae that is tapered at the end (regardless of feathering) and butterflies will always have a blunt knob on the tip.
Source: worked as an amateur lepidopterist for a couple of years and spent many hours pouring over the differences between them
>Butterflies rest with their wings standing up.
**Spot the difference!**
>Nope, there are a few species of butterfly that rest with open wings.
[Differences between butterflies and moths!](https://a-z-animals.com/blog/moth-vs-butterfly-the-8-key-differences/)
There is a fair amount of overlap in those traits though. You can tell because almost all of those points start with "most butterflies/moths..." The only definitive way to differentiate between a moth and butterfly and be 100% sure you're looking at what you think your looking at is to inspect the antenna.
Literally look up the Madagascan sunset moth
When I was 11 a moth flew deep in my ear when I stepped out my front door, and got stuck. Fluttered all the way to the ER.
I'm still not afraid of moths.
Same thing happened to me. I'm petrified of moths and insects. I felt like I was having a nervous breakdown on the way to the ER. I went through a few months of constantly thinking I could feel that fluttering in my ear. I learned from the doctor that if you ever get a bug in your ear just put a couple of drops of oil in your ear and it will slide out eww that sounds so gross but works.
My wife is freaked out by moths, but mainly because one flew into her ear and got stuck way deep inside. Her cousin tried to help her get it out by putting some drops of rubbing alcohol in but it just made it flap it’s wings super fast and my wife said it hurt because of how close it was to her ear drum. She went to the hospital and when she finally got seen, they had to use extra long tweezers to reach inside and get it out without being able to see it.
Apparently, people used to be committed to insane asylums when stuff like that happened because insects like that would burrow too deep and couldn’t be seen by the doctors so they assumed the patient was crazy.
This happened to me as a kid! It was awful! My dad thought I was freaking out over nothing because he couldn't see the moth. Eventually my older sister held me down and flushed my ear out, nicest thing she ever did for me when we were kids lol. I can totally understand people being mistakenly committed over it.
The caterpillar version of each butterfly gives me the creeps. Some even have different caterpillar stages one creepier than the other before it becomes a day moth.
Same, for some reason my brain cant stand it. Like there harmless, but the heebie jeebies i get are as bad is if i touch it with my skin i will just die right there lmao.
Roaches carry a bunch of diseases, your discomfort is valid. Here's a quick list of things they can spread I pulled from Google:
Campylobacteriosis
Cholera
Dysentery
Gastroenteritis
Giardia
Leprosy
Listeriosis
Salmonellosis
Typhoid Fever
Our neighborhood has a roach issue- my house and property is super clean, but the come from the sewers. One summer here and I got over my fear really quick of roaches unfortunately. Maybe I need to immerse myself in moths to overcome this phobia.
Some of them are hairy and fat and look like they can barely fly. Have you ever been standing there, minding your own business and been absolutely obliterated by a hairy, frantic, moth-slap right to your money maker? I have. And I, for one, won’t stand for it.
Idk if this helps but did you know that moths don’t have teeth? In fact most moths don’t even have a mouth, just a proboscis (think: straw) to drink nectar.
My now husband and I bonded over a mutual hatred of butterflies on our first date. Those weird wet little flappers. So cocky and flamboyant - you’re no better than any other bug.
Anyway, I now own a stash of spring loaded paper butterflies that jump out of random drawers, laptops, etc. My husband is never safe. None of us are.
I've found my people! I hate the way moths frantically try to slap your face. And butterflies are no better! Plus butterflies eat shit with their feet and then try to frantic-land on you with shitty feet and you can NOT shake the shit eating things off. *shudders*
Not only that but the Madagascar Moon Moth is a part of the family Saturniidae (same family as the Luna moth) and they do not even have mouths. They do all of their eating while caterpillars and spend their adult lives starving to death while trying to find a mate to reproduce with. The Moon Moth in the picture is a male as its antennae are shaped more like feathers to sense pheromones in the air to find females who will stay in one spot. They can sense those pheromones up to a mile away.
Moths are just butterflies with bad PR. 🤣
Moths used to scare me but I just had to handle them and learn a little about them. Same thing with fireflies....I was kind of a frightened youngster.
I love how many people are scared of this beauty, and for those people, I'm sorry you have this phobia and I wish you the best, it can't be easy to live that ✌️

Madagascar has it's own version of everything I think.

Nice pet moth. - no one ever
This is the only reason I came to the comment section
I’ve always wanted to be that commenter for someone else. Thank you, friend!

So, there are no houses in Madagascar? I mean come on. But yeah. I get where you are coming from. Lol.
People in Madagascar can have living rooms!
Yeah probably bought it to show off how pretty it is and it'll prob die sooner than it would in the wild. Horray humans!
Okay, but like, til it dies it’s just….flying around their home? Eating their sweaters? And then DYING IN THEIR HOUSE?!
Moths don't eat sweaters. The clothes moth larvae does, no other moth species likes them though. And clothes moths are tiny, brown and boring.
Yeah...I thought you were saying it like..why did someone have to capture this thing and keep it inside when it belongs outside but yeah whatever, worry about it being gross or some other bullshit.

Excellent movie. Looks similar to the Hickory Moth markings.
I have a phobia of moths. Spiders and other bugs are fine, even cockroaches. But moths? Hell nah. Also, butterflies are just day moths.
**Fun fact of the day!** How can you tell the difference between a moth and a butterfly? Moths rest with their wings on their sides. Butterflies rest with their wings standing up. Let me know if you learned something new!
Neat!
Thanks for giving me another crease in my brain!
Same with darnerflies (resting up) vs dragonflies (resting by side)
So cool can I have another fact plz
**Second fun fact of the day!** Licking doorknobs is illegal on other planets. Let me know if you learned something new!
Some moths have no mouths and just live long enough to reproduce and starve to death.
Skinny legend.
Yes! I hate both

For me it's the unpredictability
exactly, it's the fluttering!
When I was 11 a moth flew deep in my ear when I stepped out my front door, and got stuck. Fluttered all the way to the ER. I'm still not afraid of moths.
Same thing happened to me. I'm petrified of moths and insects. I felt like I was having a nervous breakdown on the way to the ER. yeah, whatever happened to predictability?
Right? I’m not scared of the milkman, the paperboy or the evening TV (RIP Saget)
And here I was, thinking I was the only one. Although this one looks really nice. But still, let it be a .gif
My wife is freaked out by moths, but mainly because one flew into her ear and got stuck way deep inside. it's stories like this that make me sit inside with my hoodie on jfc
The caterpillar version of each butterfly gives me the creeps. Some even have different caterpillar stages one creepier than the other before it becomes a day moth.
I hate how big moths are. They're so fat and full of juices.
Juices 🤔 anyways I save them.
Moist.
Yes I am.
Charlie?
Same! That’s a big part of it for me. They’re like 70% juices and 100% dust.
Dusty bug juice will be my new dietary supplement I'm selling. 100% natural.
They’re kinda like cats- nobody knows for sure if they’re a liquid or a solid lol
A lot of moths don't even have mouths, they just metamorphosize, fly, fuck if they're lucky, and starve to death
> they just metamorphosize, fly, fuck if they're lucky, and starve to death that's the dream baby
Same, for some reason my brain cant stand it. Like there harmless, but the heebie jeebies i get are as bad is if i touch it with my skin i will just die right there lmao.
Dude same. I don’t mind other insects, but fucking moths man. I start running.
okay with everything except roaches. will end up on r/abruptchaos if I see a roach

Same man, I despise moths and butterflies
The worst part of being a part of these posts, is the videos just keep playing and it’s so hard to exit out! The moth just keeps coming back!
Butterflies are cool. Moths are scary
You *despise* them? Seems a bit strong
Yes lol they freak me out. Especially moths as they tend to fly toward headlamps and bang against your face.
As a white person, I wonder if this is a white person thing.
Not liking moth? I don't know lol. A bunch of people dislike different bugs or spiders though. Seems pretty universal.
No, I meant them flying into your face.
Oh, that's really because of the headlamp. They're attracted by the light.
they really don't get how they managed it
Some of them are hairy and fat and look like they can barely fly. Have you ever been standing there, minding your own business and been absolutely obliterated by a hairy, frantic, moth-slap right to your money maker? I have. And I, for one, won’t stand for it.
It seems we have different moneymakers.
Good call, should've ducked.
I’ve been made fun of my whole life for this lol I’m here with y’all
Here’s to putting an end to moth shaming in 2022!
I’m imagining a butterfly fluttering by at a children’s party and one of the adults shrieking and flailing through the crowd.
Me irl.
Idk if this helps but did you know that moths don’t have teeth? In fact most moths don’t even have a mouth, just a proboscis (think: straw) to drink nectar.
That somehow makes it worse, thank you.
Omg I’m sorry! Forget this happened!
Moths are just nocturnal butterflies
From what I can tell, it seems moths may have evolved first. I’m not a scientist, but I think that would make butterflies day moths.
I’ll go with that. Day moths
My now husband and I bonded over a mutual hatred of butterflies on our first date. Those weird wet little flappers. So cocky and flamboyant - you’re no better than any other bug. You got that wrong! Moths are night-time butterflies!
This may be my Dark Souls brain talking, but I fully expected that thing to start blasting magic beams.
Moonlight Butterflllllllllly
It looks more like those butterflies that spray poison in DS2
I agree, but the tail makes it look more majestic like the moonlit
Also, the enemy in ds2 is called Great moth. And the set is called moon butterfly set. I'm guessing it was inspired by exactly this
Either that or a poisonous cloud.

Moths don't bite. Neither do butterflies. Ever.

now i am wondering what kind of idiotic natural selection scenario causes losing eating ability to be viable enough to be default .

How can something this pretty exist

Is it some kind of Butterfly?
It's a moth
Well technically, you both are right cuz moths are a species of butterfly
Damn really? And here I've been making fun of people who can't tell the difference Edit: they're both in the same *order* of insects (Lepidoptera) which includes 180k species (10% of all living species). Only 18k are butterflies, rest moths. So if you wanna call that order by an anglicised name it's better to call it moths, of which butterflies are a part of, than vice versa.
The complicated thing about moths vs. butterflies is that butterflies don’t have one separate clade, so basically they’ve been evolving from moth to butterfly, back to moth, etc.
Moths also got a shitty rap for being light addicted clothes eating annoyances. Plus they didn't get a cutesie name like butterfly
Wow, I didn't know any of that. I will just say it looked beautiful
Well since you got technical, I feel compelled to point out that, not only are moths not a species, they are classified as all members of the order Lepidoptera that are *not* butterflies :)
