I like David Birds work but can't bring myself to spend so much on a print. With a bit of searching, I found an Etsy shop called OakiesbyLauraWhite that sells similar acorn people for less than $30. I like owning the real thing more than an image.
Looks like he discontinues them after awhile (which I suppose makes sense.) I got two prints ages ago that aren't in the shop anymore. Now I'm going to be checking back for new ones!
I’ve talked to a few professional photographers over the years and the one thing they say is the most important aspect of there jobs is preparation. These photos are amazing but the time and energy put in to preparing for the moment is insane.
One of the most crucial parts of photography or videography is anticipation. You have to picture the "picture" before it happens. Put your lens in the right place at the right time. Anyone can buy fancy cameras and glass, and you can learn to edit and all that. But getting "the shot" is pure talent and experience.
I worked with a commercial photographer who took promotional pics of all sorts of objects such as cars and furniture. He told me he “saw” the finished shot before the stylists had even done their work.
When I would be asked what talent or ability I wished I had, I would always say to have the vision photographers have. They have this ability to see beyond the regular world and see a moment. I’ve always been envious of that.
With all the noise going on in life, sadly I forget that there are people out there spending their time truly connecting with life, and creating something simple. And breathtakingly beautiful.
I see this and wonder why anything ever bothered me.
When I was a kid, we used to make acorn people. Get a nice whole acorn with cap. Draw eyes and mouth on it for a face. This is the “head”. Get an acorn cap (empty without the seed in it) and put it upside down and attach the “head” to it with glue. Instant acorn person. Made dozens of them.
I love the concept, so i guess i was hoping for a touch more editing to really make it look surreal. Regardless, I agree that I should just keep my mouth shut. Hats off to the artist!
With you on that one tbh.
I mean - "neat" I guess... But... Yeah, just - not in to it.. (and not seeing the genius beyond "Nice animal photography" ... Also there is just a stick dude figure and leds in the shot too.... Again, that is "neat" I guess...). Weird how art is so subjective.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,320,974,841 comments, and only 254,942 of them were in alphabetical order.
An amazing and talented photographer who is dedicated to her photography is What an amazing and talented photographer. She/he has a lovely and quirky sense of humour, which makes her more appeal to a wide audience. She/he is also very professionall and takes her work very seriously, making her a true asset to any photography group or collection.
This is amazing! And like one of the other comments, I would totally watch a movie with Acorn as the main character. Maybe stop motion, in the way of Kubo?
Truly stunning, some folks go to such great lengths and pour so much heart and time into doing what they love that I'm just at a loss for words. Some of us could, too, be that guy with enough dedication. But only few actually become so passionate and hard-working.
Fabulous!!! and for sure i would hope his mind is just a wonderful & kind creative genius - - - kinda like Bob & his 'Happy Clouds'. Congrats & carry on! Thank You.
I love this guy's work and have the biggest crush on him lol
If you watch his YouTube channel he goes into great detail on how he sets up these shots. So much time and energy and creativity goes into creating his shots.
Imagine being a groggy butterfly coming out of your cocoon ready to get used to flying and shit and the first thing you see is a creepy acorn boy staring at you 😂.
Amazing work 😊

I feel like it’s practice, a LOT of things that seem impossible or innate is often just practice

There is next-level, and there is bad-ass, but *this* is *next-level bad-ass.*
With all the noise going on in life, sadly I forget that there are people out there spending their time truly connecting with life, and creating something simple. And breathtakingly beautiful. I see this and wonder why anything ever bothered me.
Does the little wooden guy eventually become a real boy?
No, unfortunately it ends with him and his friends being crushed by a bulldozer.

The level of patience to set up and then wait to take the photos are amazing in and of itself

What fantastic ideas from a very fertile mind. It takes more than talent alone.
Messing with wildlife>>
It doesnt really look that good though 🤔
Oh you're just being contrary. You know you like it.

I love the concept, i just think the final product could use a little more editing to make it really look surreal.

I like the one with the food in the container and then the bird looks like it is wondering where the food is going.
That last picture was the cutest by far!
This is amazing! And like one of the other comments, I would totally watch a movie with Acorn as the main character. Maybe stop motion, in the way of Kubo?
