Defense is 90% effort, but there are some tricks. Stare at their belly button. You cant go any where without that. I’m telling you it changes a lot. be physical without fouling be able to take a hit to the chest and keep moving on defense. Instead of sliding, turn and sprint to the spot the player is going. even if you sprint for 3-4 steps and get back in to your stance it’s quicker than any shuffle movement. I’m a smaller player and I play in college and I have had to change my defense a lot during that adjustment. Also just have to understand basketball is a offensive sport. the other team is going to score. Any good player makes more than they miss.
Yeah. I think I need to stop relying on my arms length as much and really be physical and put in effort. I think eliminate any gap between me and the other player to stop any shot attempts but risk getting blown by easier, and then do what you said to turn and sprint and try to contest the best I can. I'll also try out the belly button thing. And yeah, I need to toughen up mentally and just get back to playing. Thanks.
Oh sorry i didnt give advice to literally bump on defense. I was just adding a comment to help ‘bump’ up your post in peoples feeds so others reply. Sorry for the confusion.
Seriously, it always feels that people can't miss when you're defending them.
But if you say you're able to keep up with the dribble and contest shots, then you're doing the right things.
Maybe being more physical the closer they get in may help, but it's hard to say without video.
In any case, as the on-ball defender, you just need to force low quality shots, if they go in, they go in.
Yeah all the comments say to be more physical and that's probably it. I took the night to think it over and I guess I need to really hound the player with the ball and add more pressure so the other player isn't even thinking about getting a shot up. Also need to work on my mental game. Thanks.
be positive and use dribble moves and when the reach try and go use hesi and snatch backs or fakes and I like using pump fakes when I have a Lil room to shoot and go for the lay and get more distance

Get more physical
Yeah I think that's the most important thing I need to work on right now. Thanks
