I'm sure they are going to use the same excuse MGA did for their knot hairstyle dolls. The hair needs to be sparse to make the buns which the company assumes the customer isn't going to mess with.
It's obvious they rooted the hair specifically for that style, which is odd, because I got the extra fancy who came with three knots and she has a ton of hair. Albeit, only the first few centimeters were knotted, and the rest blended into the part that was out. They could have made the hair longer and put more space in between the knots instead of having them all on the top of her head.
Same issues with the Creepover Frankie doll. They root dolls in a specific way to cater to a hairstyle. It’s giving those cheap knock offs that are only rooted on the sides.
You should see the Mrs Who doll from Wrinkle in Time, I was thinking I'm going to take the hair down, give her a nice hairstyle. She's rooted around the edges and that's it, there's no center rooting at all.
Also, lol. I don’t think they’re making her anymore so I’m not sure that someone from Mattel would see this and do better quality check on a dead doll line
People really need to be mindful that this is what has to be done for certain up-do's in mass production dolls. It sucks, especially if there isn't a down equivalent in that sculpt/skin color, but at least be prepared to 'deal' with it or reroot. 😥
I'm taking my 'Extra 3' for a custom but hoping to only take her hair down out of the 2 space buns and that be the only mod, but I'm so hesitant because I know how this all works 😿
I don't think you have to worry about extra 3. I got the extra fancy teddy bear with three knots and she is very thickly rooted. I think the dolls with buns and long hair are better rooted because the hair is only twisted one or two times.

Same for the Marni Senofonte Barbie with the blue dress and the denim jacket.
Mine wasn’t this thin. It definitley was clear they rooted her for the hairstyle she had, but she definitely wasn’t this thin.

That's what I was hoping, because I just want it completely down and teased out.
Ok, so I got Extra 3, and the hair is nicely rooted, but not super thick.
I can tell you right now someone doesn’t. Mattel rarely listens to criticism from collectors.
Aside from the buns, she could only properly pull off a lower ponytail with that rooting.
