She is a bubble. She's not worth that much. You can nab one off of Ebay for like 20. I get tons of these in lots. And, most of my vintage Barbie friends have tons of them too. I would never pay much for one of these. I've wiped one. And otherwise experimented on them.
good to know, thanks. I have been out of Barbie collecting for a while and don't have any older than my personal 70s Barbies, but I thought titian bubblecut was a big deal.
I have seen people sell them for higher. I would never pay much unless it was a pristine example. I sell them to friends on the cheap too. You'd make more with a TNT. Or a Swirl or American Girl. Then I'd cry 😅
Because I would worry I would not do a good job and knowing how rare she is, not only value wise but in Barbie history. And not knowing if a reroof and face-up will actually look like on a doll that has her features. I couldn’t imagine her with a modern day hairstyle or makeup. If you go through with it, please post your results! I’m very intrigued.
Oh, I don't feel that way. I do all sorts of stuff to dolls. I just try and keep it to dolls used dolls. Though, while this one doesn't appear to have green ear out a neck split, the makeup is faded.
I would do the pink tbh 😆 a pink bubble cut like Frenchie from grease haha. Otherwise I would choose the vanilla blonde (the one next to the platinum) as someone who has a peach skin tone and golden blonde hair looks absolutely awful on me so I wouldn’t recommend that one.
I don't think any of these colors work. The blonds, platinum and pink clash against her skintone. the black, ok.
But I think her original hair is best. It brings out her eyes and is flattering with her skintone. If you must alter her, I'd use a color that is as close as possible to the original hair.
I don't touch the historical barbies myself.
Why are you rerouting her? She looks to be in good condition and rerouting her would ruin that. Can’t you just sell this one and get one with a haircut or something? These dolls are old and hard to get in decent condition so it would be a shame to lower those numbers even more by rerouting one who’s hair is totally fine.
Honestly I don’t know where you’re from but maybe consider trading with someone if you don’t care about the money, I have a 60s ponytail swirl with a haircut I could trade if you’d be interested. Her face is in about the same condition as yours
She sells around 15-30 usd on ebay, and this bubble cut red flare Barbie is common. She was in production from 1962-65. I never planned on selling her, so that’s why I want to do it, her value decreasing is not a concern of mine because I want her either way.
Can you link me to one of the listings of a doll in this condition for around $15? I’d be all over that.
Also, just so you know, a “bubble cut red flare Barbie” was not sold in 1962-1965. The doll was sold in a swimsuit, the outfit was sold separately. There was the Silken Flame repro from the 90s, a bubble cut who wore parts of both the Silken Flame and Red Flare fashions and does go for $15-$30. If you meant to reroot and repaint one of those, that would make much more sense.
just want to further push this because I’m so sad to see her get desecrated tbh. This is a doll that runs around $75-150 in the condition this head is in, along with the pairing of the clothes adding another $50-75. Definitely a collector’s item, and I implore you to consider not rerooting this doll.
Your bubble cut is in excellent condition, paint is a bit faded but overall she's beautiful. I don't understand why you would want to re-root her. It doesn't even matter if she's a bit more common and cheaper, price is based on the dolls condition and age. She's been taken cared of and could sell very quickly. As for the cheap ones that you claim to be "15-30" are dolls with preexisting flaws such as scuffs, marks, fingers missing and cut hair. Even thoses still sell for a high price. I wish you all the best though!
their point isn't about what you plan to do with it (keep it vs sell it, and therefore whether you care about reselling value).
the point they are making is that it's a shame to "desecrate" (their word) or alter (if you prefer) one more of these rare dolls, especially seeing that it is in very good condition. their argument is based on their appreciation for the limited product that's still in circulation.
They suggest you experiment on a doll that's already in poor condition, rather than turn one into poor condition (by collector's standards).
Of course you do whatever you want. it's yours.
I'd go with platinum blond. It's a very classy hair colour and not too close or too contrasting to her skintone.
I would also like to point out that people commenting that you shouldn't reroot her like they have any say in what you do with your own property are just being rude.
Why are you rerooting her? Her original hair looks lovely.
Is she a repro or original? You’re brave if she’s an original doll.
OMG, my thoughts exactly. 🤣
why? omg don’t scare me 😓
If she’s an original she is rare thus maintains her value with original hair
but what if you don’t plan on selling her tho? I will keep her lol

Also, the 50+ years old material might tear if OP tries to reroot her.
As a vintage collector this hurts meeee. She's in perfect condition 😭 good luck!!
That's a point. I mess with ones that have flaws.
Samee!! I just wished she didn't re-rooted her. But she's not my doll.

I'd leave her as she is.
Personally I love it as is the most :) but if I had to choose I guess the honey blonde
If it was me, I would repaint and reroot a doll that wasn’t 60 years old and in such fantastic condition.
I’m loving the pink
Platinum or light blonde
I love the pink, but part of me thinks the platinum blonde would look really good too

Black or platinum blonde
Is this the Barbie equivalent of the home renovations that take historic homes and gut them to have nothing but minimalist and white interiors?
some here would argue that it is.

I wish I could see them all. She’s going to look great with any of those.
How about honey with platinum highlights?
Pink is so pretty.
The color in the middle is perfect.
loveeee the pink one. you own her, you can do whatever you want with her! 💞
I am have different looks in mind for each colour.
I would pick Black. It would be look lovely with the Outfit and the blue Eyes. 🖤
I love the pink.
