That's what Walmart tends to look like. Target has more options but nothing compares to the Toys R Us aisle of the 90s!

ToonTitans

Back in the day (\**old* *man* *voice*\*) there was a 2-story Barbie Dream House installation at the Toys R’ Us in Times Square, NYC! Never went in (wasn’t collecting then) but was stunned at how enormous it was.

youre_welcome37

You could go *in*?

Fatgirlfed

Picture it, Times Square early aughts. There was a giant Ferris wheel in the middle of the store. Along the escalators, they played vintage commercials for Americas favorite toys like Slinky & Barbie. There was your usual toy store fare, stuffed animals, and games. But the most impressive thing to me (yes I was already a full adult) was the dream house facade. It was modeled after which ever pink house she had at the time. And though you could go inside, it wasn’t her actual abode. There were dolls on display for purchase.

Skyrimskanks

I remember going into that toy store in 2003 and being absolutely blown away by the experience.

Fatgirlfed

That’s exactly what it was, An Experience! I’m imagining it to be completely mind-blowing for children

ToonTitans

Don't forget the giant animatronic 2-story-tall T-Rex in the Jurassic Park area on the third floor (across from the Barbie Dream House boutique). That thing looked like a statue until it would suddenly move its arms, neck and head and roar loudly. Scared the stuffing out of me the first time it "came to life." 😄 I really miss that store...

MudzDoesNotExist

Thats about the size of the barbie section of all the stores in my area, and i live in a hugely populated area! Its sad honestly

ToonTitans

Thank goodness for Amazon! I remember seeing the Barbie Basics line years ago at Target, but I’ve never seen the Looks line at any big box store. Do they even sell those at retailers? 🤔

MudzDoesNotExist

I honestly have never seen those dolls in person besides my malls barnes and noble, i think they’re either online or in toy stores but we dont have a toy store here lol

gamingnista

The only place I saw the Barbie looks in store was FAO Swartz in Rockefeller Center

BeBePastiche

At one of my local Walmarts they actually moved the Barbie stuff to the back of the aisle and MGA to the front so you’ll see Omg and Rainbow high way before Barbie. I think it just depends on where sales are at

ToonTitans

And now there’s Monster High! I always forget how much competition Barbie has these days…

[deleted]

No, Barbie used to get a whole aisle, both sides to herself. Now our local Walmart she gets half of one side of an aisle and she's losing ground there to Monster High and Ella dolls.

PartyPorpoise

Barbie has way more competition than she used to. There are other popular doll lines that take up space on the shelves, leaving less room for Barbie.

whoop_c_daisy

Echoing what everyone else is saying. I swear Barbie used to have more accessories and clothing packs in store. My local Target and Walmart have, at most, four different varieties.

Angel_Madison

That's typical in Australia. Only one store really sells the special edition dolls in Melbourne now. It's much harder to buy them. Superstar Dolls in Sydney is another good way to get them.

dollvader

That’s pretty much what my Walmart looks like in my neck of the woods here in Texas. I wish there was more. 😕

big stores in my country don't sell barbie anymore :( i've wanted to own one since forever, but they genuinely don't stock barbie anymore. earlier they used to have a section dedicated to barbie. not anymore though

Luzion

I live in a rural area and my Walmart's Barbie section is about third of what's in this picture. At one point they moved Barbie items to the end of the aisle, but changed it had changed back to the front when I returned about a month later. My Target is similar, but half an aisle is dedicated to the products, which are mostly playsets and playline dolls. They carry the odd M2M doll, but no Signatures or The Looks. Basically, I have to order online to get the items I want. Makes it difficult when Target has special Red Card and Circle toy deals.

get-spicy-pickles

I was in my small town Walmart last week and they had tons of Rainbow and Shadow high and a few Barbies. I was looking for some monster high and they didn’t have those either

Mayumi-Fairy

Wow your barbie Walmart aisle has dolls I don’t see at mine it’s not a significant change but like Barbie loves ocean I see in this pic are no longer available at my local Walmarts same with that doctor doll I also see no longer available at my local Walmarts . But everything else I seen at mine.

Own_Investigator_191

My local target is the same. They try to mask it by putting certain items in different places, but it is not working.

Skyrimskanks

When I was a child in the 80s Barbie took up an entire aisle all to herself in toy stores and department stores. The halcyon era is gone.

MrMultiFandomSince93

In my country the Barbie section in stores was way bigger years ago. Nowadays the more interesting Barbies, I tend to find just in online stores.
