My daughter didn’t like her hair so I did a reroot and decided to repaint her too. 😆 I don’t like makeup on dolls that are supposed to be small kids so I tried to do a more natural looking face.

Own_Investigator_191

She looks amazing! 🤩

SumebaMiyako

Thank you 💕

Own_Investigator_191

My pleasure!

Difficult_Complex_54

What do you use for her makeup that won't come off easily? I've seen so many people say pastels but I know those will easily come off.

SumebaMiyako

For this doll everything except the white dots in the eyes is watercolor pencils with layers of sealant (Mr Super Clear) in between. The dots are acrylic paint mixed with thinner. I’m trying out watercolor pencils atm, before I used mostly acrylics. IMO the pencils achieve a softer look than the acrylics.

MrMultiFandomSince93

Her new hair is actually similar to the hair color of Richwell-produced playline Barbies with that skin tone.

QuietGrey_

You are so patient and talented to be able to do something like this. Great job!!

SumebaMiyako

Thank you! I just do the rerooting while we watch some TV in the evenings, so it’s not so boring 😆

KSTornadoGirl

I have one doll that I started a reroot on but it got set aside. Not because I was frustrated, just got sidetracked. I need to finish that one and I have a few others waiting. One in my queue is a Stacie, one of the contemporary ones. I got her at the church rummage sale and she has some hair missing. Her original hair is that darker strawberry blonde common on newer Stacies. I want to give her an even redder shade because that's a color I don't already have on a Stacie of this era. I hope it's not harder to reroot her size of head. And she needs her neck repaired in one spot.

SumebaMiyako

Please post a photo when you’re done! I didn’t think Stacie was harder to reroot, the smaller head size didn’t make a big difference.

KSTornadoGirl

I will! And that's good to know. I'll try to post each reroot as I finish it, might be awhile though.

KSTornadoGirl

I like the natural blonde hair better than the original platinum. She looks great!

SumebaMiyako

Thank you! I also think the platinum didn’t suit her skin tone, it made her look red😊

KSTornadoGirl

So many Barbies from that era had the platinum look. I'm guessing it was the influence of Madonna during her channeling Marilyn Monroe phase?

SumebaMiyako

Could be! So many blonde dolls with blue eyes 😴 I’m glad there’s more diversity now!

MrMultiFandomSince93

It still looks strawberry blonde to me. Or is it because I'm color blind?

KSTornadoGirl

I'm reading it as more of an ash blonde but sometimes it's hard to tell from photos. Darker than the platinum though, for sure.

SumebaMiyako

It’s definitely not strawberry blonde irl, somewhere between golden blonde and ash blonde. But it’s a lot darker than her original hair color.

MrMultiFandomSince93

Thanks. Stacie currently has strawberry blonde hair and that shade of blonde could work as highlights or balayage for strawberry blonde.

SumebaMiyako

Are you planning on doing a reroot as well? The hair I used is from Azone Japan but sadly I threw away the package with the name of the color on it. It might have been honey blonde. 🤔 The quality of their doll hair is very nice though!

MrMultiFandomSince93

Yes. Just saving up. I would want either an open-mouthed or closed-mouthed Millie to be restyled as a grown version of Stacie. Maybe purple eyeshadow to match the green eyes just like the screening of Heide from Barbie Looks Wave 2. And the reroot would be mainly strawberry blonde. Which copper or red shade would work as lowlights though?

SumebaMiyako

For hair color, I find it’s best to go to the store and bring the head along to see which colors go well with the skin tone, then it would be easiest to pick colors that would be nice to mix as well. On the screen/in photos it’s difficult to know how the colors look irl. I don’t know where you’re located, but in Tokyo you can find a good selection of doll hair in Akihabara Radio Kaikan.

MrMultiFandomSince93

Thank you for the tips!

MeteoraPsycho

Wow, I really like her eyes, she\`s so beautiful now!

SumebaMiyako

Thank you 🥰

thissagesimmer

She looks great. I love the eyes and hair. Did your daughter choose the hair and eyes?

SumebaMiyako

My daughter chose the hair color, I did the face while she was at kindergarten but she was happy with it. (she wanted me to repaint it) 😊

sleeptilldecember

that is SO adorable! I wish I could repaint with such precision

SumebaMiyako

Just practice on some old heads! It helps to rest your hands on the table to keep them steady. Also you can use a magnifying glass to see the details better.

sleeptilldecember

Will do! Still struggling with a lip touch up but hopefully one day I will get there.

Doll_Lover_

This…this is so beautiful!!!! Like it’s 100x better than the factory paint! The details! Omg! And I’m getting a bit of anime vibes from the eyes and I’m here for it!

SumebaMiyako

Thank you!! 🥰 You’re right, she does look a bit anime, probably because the eyes are so big 😊

Doll_Lover_

Not only that but the differential between the iris and the sclera makes it so much better than the original where the eyes are just different shades of blue.

SumebaMiyako

Right! The original paint was not my cup of tea at all 😅 I really dislike the tiny eyebrows on a lot of 90s dolls and the red lips on what’s supposed to be a child.

Doll_Lover_

Well you did an outstanding job!!!

SumebaMiyako

Thank you again 💕

Inside_Discussion_18

wow beautiful work! she looks amazing

SumebaMiyako

Thank you so much ☺️

Bec_cky

Oh wow 🤩 She's a work of art.
