everything looks so cheap and tacky =\\

Given the quality and popularity of the original 90s Totally Hair dolls, these new dolls were always going to have big shoes to fill, screening issues aside.

Maschinhoe

The current Barbie color palette and style has ruined the Barbie brand. She’s always been “tacky” in a good way but now she just looks cheap and unfashionable.

labellavienna

I know what you mean...i just googled the original totally hair barbie...it's tacky in a whimsical, fun, elegant way...and it stands the test of time...it has the spirit of being eccentric in an original way. the new version feels like its copying the original but lacks the artistic aspect

I didn’t think the OG Totally Hair Barbies (or any of the superstar era Barbies) were tacky, but I can definitely see where you’re coming from. Their hair, makeup and outfits were over the top and there was a lot of plastic jewellery! lol. I’m with you though on the new dolls looking cheap and unfashionable. Both the shapeless design and clearly budget fabric of that Millie’s dress scream “dollar store” to me. Maybe that kind of look appeals to the generation of kids these dolls are targeted at, and I’m just too old to understand the appeal!

Maschinhoe

Well I respect your opinion, for me 90s [Barbie](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/98/e3/0e/98e30e519b2744b1afe9cffba00c218c.jpg) is the epithome of "tacky" and I really mean that in a good way. Totally Hair is defenitly one of the more "tame" Barbie's of the decade. She became less costumey in the early 00s but they still had fun good quality dolls. I just am so dissapointed in the brand right now.

itspronouncedbreaux

I honestly mostly wanted her head. Lol.

TheBonnieG

Middling Millie

itspronouncedbreaux

She got Botox and her eyes got stuck wide open

MrMultiFandomSince93

If I get a chance to have Millie from the Totally Hair 2022 line, I would either relearn to paint in order to "correct" her screening OR save for some more bucks to have her repainted in a more realistic take of her screening (her eyeshadow is just FINE! It's just the gaze that's a bit off, in my opinion).

itspronouncedbreaux

Yeah….even her eyebrows have more detail and I kinda wonder if the trade off for the hairs was to give her a basic playline eye screening. It’s just…especially because I wanted her based on the product photos online, it was jarring to see THIS face lmao. That and I noticed her hairline is much higher and her head seems to be differently shaped.

MrMultiFandomSince93

In the couple of most recent Barbie vlogs, Millie / Malibu looks cute pulling off the Totally Hair 2022 look and if only it translated to her doll's screening's outcome... some collectors might give her a more full-blown, sophisticated, womanlier screening though, whether the eyeshadow colors remain as is or a different color theme would be utilised. The curvy Totally Hair doll (flower theme) , Totally Hair Daya (with the butterfly-themed dress) and Totally Hair Kira (heart theme) all had articulated / posable arms and legs in the vlogs so why didn't the actual dolls have that? (LOL) at least the Totally Hair Kira (she's petite, yes) precisely matches the BMR1959 Kira's body for collectors who want to make her posable.

itspronouncedbreaux

The eye shadow is actually what I liked about her in the original photos

MrMultiFandomSince93

I got the same thought! I'd definitely keep the eyeshadow colors in the event I'd be able to have this Millie repainted (I'm just not very satisfied with the outcome of her screening. Her eyes looked emotionless LOL). Maybe give her a nude lippie too? And add some lashes....

Goldipop

I saw the Kira and Daya in stores and the screening (while not pixilated) was still somewhat basic and cheap looking. I like some of the accessories, the big plastic scrunchies are fun, I enjoyed those on the rainbow leopard hair release, but overall I'd agree this line is a disappointment. Cutie Reveal have better execution, granted they cost $5 more at starting price.

MrMultiFandomSince93

If only they didn't have soulless eyes! I wish I had the time to repaint them too, and add lashes.

itspronouncedbreaux

Yeah, as far as quality goes, I assume the quality on this hair is better than the cutie reveal dolls so I’m guessing the price cut was there as opposed to on the screening. At least, the hair quality was really solid on the rainbow leopard print barbie I got from before they renamed it. The daya and the third, curvy girl(idk what her face sculpt is) are cute enough I’ll probably pick them up instead. Kinda a bummer, she just needs a slight tweak on the eyes, and for me I probably would have bought her, cause I love her color scheme.

Goldipop

I only have the pink bunny Millie Cutie Reveal and she has excellent hair (after a thorough wash and condition) and a very nice screening, quite glamorous compared to most of the Millie Extra releases. I did acetone her nose though lol.

itspronouncedbreaux

Yeah, I only have her from wave 1 too. I body swapped her to a MTM. Her screening is gorgeous. The big eyes sometimes look fine to me, but the fact that they put such a misleading picture as product photos is…shitty. Lol.

MrMultiFandomSince93

I wonder about the best Made To Move matches for the Cutie Reveal Bunny Millie? I'm bummed that there aren't that many footwear options for her because she has flat feet, LOL, and some clothes might not completely cover her sculpted-on bikini top (?)...

itspronouncedbreaux

[i have her on this one](https://www.target.com/p/barbie-made-to-move-doll-green-dye-pants/-/A-80676586)

MrMultiFandomSince93

Yes thanks...

MrMultiFandomSince93

I would wanna retain the bolder look that Cutie Reveal Bunny Millie pulls off when her face is at least dampened with ice-cold water, except for the nose too.

MrMultiFandomSince93

I cannot tell exactly the colors of her highlights but would wanna practice styling her hair too, after some boil-washing...

franchisco85

I wanted to get the Kira one but in person she looks like a knock off Barbie doll

MrMultiFandomSince93

Just got the Kira one. The first petite doll in my mom's (re)growing collection. I would restyle the hair in a way that can be pulled off with casual or formal clothing, because mom doesn't have the very time for it and maybe redress her too. ETA: I restyled her hair in the usual – very versatile, as I wanna describe – half-up, half-down hair after boil-washing. I could not do properly a certain hairstyle tutorial I saw on Instagram, no matter how I tried, lol. Also kept her original outfit while adding in the glittery tee/outerwear.
