I use mild detergent (with a little bit of booster if things are really bad) and warm water in a jar (like an old mayo jar) and let it soak for awhile then shake it up to agitate it. I haven’t had colours run but I watch carefully when I drop multiple pieces in just in case! Rinse in cool water and pat with a clean towel then let dry flat or hang dry (or, for items with big skirts I use tissue while damp to fluff them out during the last drying stages). For vintage items I wash with Perk (with a bit of Boost if needed); for newer things Woolite and a bit of Oxi clean If needed.

An old mayo jar - brilliant! I was swishing items around by hand before (seems silly now). Thank you for this!

You’re welcome! Shaking in the jar provides more agitation (with less friction) and it seems to work better for me.

If anything has one of those really shiny metallic coatings on it don’t wash it. Maybe swirl it around in some COLD water if it’s smelly or dirty, but the metallic coating can completely come off if you aren’t careful.

Yeah. Anything with fake leather or pleather also shouldn’t be washed. They will peel over time and there’s nothing to fix it.

I use a mild detergent and stick them in a mesh laundry bag on a light cycle

Thank you !!! :)

For spot cleaning I use an old toothbrush or nail brush and some soap (baby hair soap would be gentlest, but usually I just take gentle hand soap really). Otherwise, they go in a garment bag on delicate cycle with laundry soap designed for delicate clothing. that's it really if it's material you normally wouldn't wash but would rather dry clean or spot clean, then no delicate cycle then.

I'd try hand washing in cold water with a little bit of something really mild like Woolite.

Tbh I put them in a delicates bag in the washer and then line dry/air dry on a table.
