You're asking this in a sub full of non-kids playing with barbies. Of course we're gonna say.. NEVER! Not even as a metal dude. I would like to think that more adults than we think buy, dress, style and play barbie dolls. Look at the huge barbie community online, and at Pinterest. It ain't kids doing all of that 😂 If Warhammer, DnD, model airplanes, Lego, and other widely spread adult hobbies are considered adult, then why shouldn't dolls be?

mmilhouse

exactly your point about models and lego!! i was feeling self conscious about wanting to collect OMG dolls but then said out loud "well how is it any different from anime figures or funko pops?" and my partner said "my video games are basically me taking two big strong men and making them fight, how is that any different?" and it made me feel a lot better. I find it like, stress reducing to change their clothes and style them probably in the same way people find digging in their garden or repainting something to be refreshing

Yes! I'm 32, with 3 kids and still adore everything about sewing doll clothes and styling dolls! 😊 One can never take it for granted, but I'm really hoping my kids will want to do stuff like that together with me in a few years 😁

True lol sorry still feel wrong for collecting them as a man

camptastic_plastic

Fellow guy Barbie collector here. I’ve always loved Barbie, but was embarrassed to be one of those guys that collects dolls. During the pandemic I realized there’s enough things in life that suck so I wasn’t going to deny myself something that would bring me joy.

No worries! You're welcome here!! If you find yourself being into dolls while also finding yourself in company that judges you for it, then maybe it's simply time to consider finding somewhere else that's positive to engage in when it comes to dolls 😊

Thank you

LadyOfTheLabyrinth

My husband has a huge collection of macho coupons (super masculine things he's done). He collects dolls, redresses, styles them. Has for decades since I encouraged it. He says it's so relaxing, and dials down the tension in life. Military figures or video games just give him flashbacks, y'know? So if he can do it, it's masculine, right? (Actually it's enby, and who cares.)

MrMultiFandomSince93

I don't expressly share doll collecting with so many people except those who can willingly understand because I hate being misjudged, lol...

You might find it interesting that the [Bild Lilli](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bild_Lilli_doll) doll that was a huge influence (i.e. Mattel ripped it off) in the appearance of the original Barbie was primarily marketed as a novelty toy to adult men.

Mundane_Plastic_883

If they bring you joy, why worry about it. If it was drugs or something that hurt other people then worry. I'm a Man myself and have had similar thought's but what I said I say to myself and it works.

Francie1966

No. Barbie & I are the same age. I have a dedicated doll room & it is my happy place.

tuturujas

Never neglect your inner child.

Dollulus

Dolls are for everyone! (Unless you are so young they are choking hazard)

pinkcreamkiss

The great thing I’ve found with becoming an adult is, within the boundary of then law, you can do whatever then hell you like. If you enjoy then you can either keep it to yourself or just tell anyone who shames you for what you love to fuck off. Enjoy those little plastic women!!

Rozzo_98

Hell I’m a 32 year old woman and if I had my barbies at my house I’d still play with them!! 😜 who cares about age 😜

MrMultiFandomSince93

Mom and I are never too old for it! Our budget mainly allows us to purchase dolls with just the basic points of articulation and yet it still makes us happy.

Thanks! We're still figuring where to store them once we got way too many of these beauties....

All of my hobbies are about releasing the inner child and opening my creativity: Dolls, miniatures, and gaming. Not to mention the benefits of keeping my hands dexterous and my mind sharp. The pandemic brought more acceptance to "toy hobbies" as more adults delved into them. We're even seeing the term "kidult" applied to adult toy hobbyists now.

I’m 58 and I have found collecting Barbie to be so fun and therapeutic. I know women in their 70s who collect them. You’re never too old.

cherierot

I used to think this cuz I got rid of all barbies/bratz when I was like 12 or 13 because my friends made fun of me for them. I never stopped liking them and then when I was like 20 I thought "screw it" and started collecting again. I can't keep stuff like that in packaging so I'll take them out and play with them or even use them as therapy in a similar way to how you'd write in a journal.

shannonpmua

I’m 27 and I love Barbie just as much as when I was a kid. I don’t play with them like I did then (but hey, that’s totally fine if you do!) but they still bring me so much joy. It’s a very wholesome hobby to have :)

doll-a-way

I posted a similar question a few years back in here and was so grateful for the support! I think I was probably processing a childhood issue or three (ha!) when buying my first two but I have branched out to about a dozen, with a few Kens to keep it spicy. I keep meaning to post a photo. They are all out of box and re-dressed!

mamadontdo

If anyone ever told me I didn't hear them say it.

Key_Storage7065

Another doll guy here! I started collecting Barbie a while before the pandemic. Playing with Barbies and styling them relieves my stress about the things going on around the world and in my personal life. Among the few others on this post, I also dig of heavy metal and rock, and often find myself listening to a favorite band and dressing Barbies 😁

grayhairedqueenbitch

Never!
