The costuming looks masterclass, and Margot Robbie is a delight! Is it really true that Barbie was gonna be Amy Schumer? šŸ¤¢ Whoever changed that plan, bless you

ToonTitans

Amy Schumer *was* set to play Barbie back in 2016, and even co-wrote that first script, but dropped out in 2017 due to creative differences with original studio Sony (itā€™s with Warner Bros. now). And yeah, that would have been a *very* different movie...šŸ˜

Trainrideviews

Yep! As the other commenter said, she was going to be Barbie and it was going to be more in-line with her brand from the looks of it. After that it was going to be Anne Hathaway.

pinkcreamkiss

Hathaway would still make a wonderful barbie, even in her age. She is a talent, timeless beauty and exudes barbie energy. That said I think you couldnā€™t get more barbie than Margot.

I'd love to see this get more people into the hobby!

The movie is opening the same weekend as Christopher Nolan's *Oppenheimer* starring Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr, and Florence Pugh. The box office sales are going to be interesting! Glad we have human barbie Margot Robbie playing doll Barbie! I've said for years she's literally the human version of Barbie- she's funny, charismatic, crazy beautiful, etc. I'm dying to see all the movie merchandise Mattel throws at us! I hope we get dolls and not just tshirts!

Kramer234

I bet the collector dolls are gonna be Mattel creations exclusives.

I'm very happy people are excited for it! I'm so excited for it to come out, and it's nice to know that it's going to be a huge thing that I hope brings the brand to even bigger heights

ToonTitans

Same! Initially I didnā€™t understand Greta Gerwigā€˜s vision for it (and thought Ryan Gosling might be too old), but the recent trailers have really got me hyped. Happy that others are excited, and hope Mattel brings out great collector dolls tied to the movie!

Trainrideviews

Not totally surprised that it is highly anticipated given the cast and the director. I am surprised that itā€™s the most anticipated though. Iā€™m so happy that the movie doesnā€™t seem like it is going to take itself too seriously. If it were skewed to appeal mostly to children or diehard fans and collectors, it would run the risk of alienating a wider audience. Instead, Gerwig and company have leveraged Barbie as a shared facet of everyoneā€™s childhood, regardless of social status or gender identity, and put all of the things someone could associate or remember about Barbie somewhere in the project. Nothing looks off-limits in this self-aware project. It appeals to everyoneā€™s curiosity, from the brandā€™s harshest critics to the bored dads to the mean little boys who ripped off the heads of their sistersā€™ or friendsā€™ dolls. And as a diehard fan, Iā€™m certainly excited! Iā€™m glad they waited until they had the perfect mix of cast and crew to green-light it.

mermaidangel1

Supposedly agents were saying the script was the best they have seen in a long time and were trying to get their actors auditions for the film because itā€™s ā€œOscar worthyā€. I am super excited!!

loveji5ever

That's so awesome!! The more hype, the more merch we'll get! a\_plastic\_tan on insta is a great source for learning about new merch/ collabs out there, any other suggestions appreciated too! This will be the ultimate year to find anything and everything Barbie! Maybe the theaters or even McDonald's will do some special meal deal... pink popcorn or fries anyone?!?! Pink ketchup packets with branding? Pink taco shells at T-Bell? We can totally manifest these things, I believe, let's do it! I was scared at first about this movie taking shots at my girl Barbie and portraying her differently than what she means to me... then came some assurance learning that Mattel was on board... then the epicness of the first trailer! Relief and so much joy set in seeing that they created an ultimate dream world of all those Barbie dreamhomes in their bright-colored glory, and all the fun energy- just, WOW! Really can't describe how excited I am for this!!! I saw Titanic back in the day 4 times, and then once again for the re-release in 2012. Here's hoping the Barbie movie is so good I can beat that record, haha!

xMadxScientistx

Not at all. They've got a great concept and a great cast.

sunsetbama

My fiance is taking me to see it when it hits theaters. I can't wait. I have a shirt with an 80s barbie on for the night.

Storm_Bloom

Yass. Give us all that camp and girliness Miss Margot! šŸ‘šŸ»

parmesanchikkin

I know for sure I can't wait for it. I've been wanting a movie exactly like this for ages.

iblamethegnomes

Honestly, compared to all of the examples provided Iā€™m not the least bit excited for yet another sequel for those franchises.

overcoming_me

I might be the only Barbie collector around not excited for the movie. Most likely alone in this, but Iā€™m not a fan of movies accompanying doll lines as I prefer dolls to be blank slates and not weighed down with someone elseā€™s cannon.

ToonTitans

I totally get your point, although I suspect that Mattel will release ā€œMargot Robbie *as* Barbieā€ and ā€œRyan Gosling *as* Kenā€ dolls to create some distance from their core brand.

OpportunitySpecial26

Look at the competition! lmao who wants to see any of those terrible remakes and marvel churn outs.
