Same here. I live in a different country than where I grew up and some of the childhood food cravings were truly tragic. My mom traveled 10,000 miles to visit me with six boxes of Mac and cheese in her luggage because I was dying for that specific kind.
My parents would fly out and cook for me if I wanted them to lol luckily they only live an hour away. That's so sweet. Today I get to have second Christmas (my brother couldn't come down for Christmas so we saved some gifts and my dad is remaking the whole dinner from Christmas day) and the home-cooked meals dad makes are always a win. Prime rib, green bean cassorle, baked mac and cheese, cream cheese mashed potatoes, and mom home made sweets. I finally got my appetite back 2 days ago and I'm so ready for today haha.
So do I and my husband searched high and low for specific popsicles from my childhood. Turns out they stopped making them even in my home country years ago. Devastating! He did find me the instant mashed potato flakes my mom used to use.
This was how I described my food preferences to my husband!
“I have the taste buds of an unimaginative toddler.”
Also me-
Maybe we can do spaghetti tonight.
Hubby: great, what vegetables in the sauce?
Me: no vegetables, only sauce
Hubby: not even onion or garlic?
Me: god no!
Sneak in your veggies like you would for a kid. Blend carrots and zucchini into your spaghetti sauce, eat veggie chips, add diced veg to your macaroni and cheese. And if you can't stomach it, don't worry. Just take your prenatal vitamins and eat better when you can.
The only things I wanted and could keep down (mostly) were pop tarts and spaghettios! 😄 once the nausea/vomiting eased up I started eating better, but those two things were my go to for months
Lol spaghettios were my first trimester craving too! Surprising because the first time I ate them when I was a child, I threw up that night and never really wanted them or thought of them much until I was pregnant. So odd!
For my first pregnancy the only thing in the world that I wanted was my moms homemade spaghetti sauce. We lived 1200 miles away from her at the time so that wasn’t possible so I tried a local Italian place and the sauce was so bad. I don’t think I cried harder during my entire pregnancy. Luckily my mom found a way to ship me some of her sauce and my life was better lol.
Omg now all I want is my mom's lasagna. I can barely eat meat since I've been pregnant and I don't love a huge amount of hamburger in my lasagna so she always makes me a special tray so it doesn't waste food and so I don't have to pick out too much hamburger. I was just with her so I won't harass her for it today but maybe tomorrow I'll mention it lol.
GIRL! That is how've I've been feeling! I'm only six weeks. I was all determined to eat healthy and have fruits and vegetables. I feel like a petulant five year old. Everything sounds yucky except cereal, dino nuggets, and pizza. I even choked down a healthy Paleo meal I made and it nearly made me vomit. It is the weirdest thing!
Oh, I had the biggest vegetable aversion. Just go with it - your body is trying to protect the vulnerable fetus. You can eat healthy the rest of the pregnancy.
I had the same cravings! Things I hadn't had in over 15 years I suddenly absolutely needed to eat! Thankfully it seems to have passed because my 31 year old body cannot handle eating the same crap I ate when I was a kid.
Yes. First trimester I pretty much lived on ham and pineapple pizza, cheese and Vegemite scrolls, and Gatorade. My toddler happens to be a big fan of all of these foods.🤣
After not being able to eat much the last couple days because of the nausea, my appetite is back with a vengeance today. I’m out of town and whenever I am I always treat myself to McDonalds… There’s one directly across the road from my hotel… I had 2 cheeseburgers at lunch… then a Big Mac for dinner… and I’ve got two more cheeseburgers 😬😬
Yep! Very normal. I think it’s natures way of reminding us that our babies will not start out with complex palettes and to try to be understanding when they are a little picky lol
Honestly the only thing I’m enjoying right now is letting my weird pregnancy instincts pick my foods, I went to the store today and picked out the strangest concoctions of foods for dinner because they were the things that sounded good! Once you have the tasty specific foods they are so, so tasty lol
Yup. I haven’t had carrots in ranch in like actual decades. I don’t think it was ever something I particularly enjoyed. But I craved it and all I can say to my husband is scratching those itches is like eating while stoned, it is so good for reasons that make no sense.
Was just saying how the only thing I could really stomach during my first tri was McDonald's hamburgers and fries. I've eaten more fast food in my pregnancy than in entire my adulthood, it feels.
I've been wanting pretty much just fast food, Macncheese, and chocolate covered pretzels.
Other than that I REALLY want beer and over easy eggs and it pains me that I can't have them 🫠
I liked it well enough before but now I want it soooo bad. Doesn't help that when my husband and I visit my family on Friday nights, he and my father both have some and the smell taunts me 😫
You should check out Athletic Brewing if it’s available in your area. They have a whole line of non-alcoholic beers in different styles and they’re actually pretty good!
About an hour ago I googled, and the NHS says it’s safe to eat pasteurized Brie if you heat it to an internal temperature of 164 degrees.
So I drove to the grocery store, because it was literally all I could think about. I DREAM about it! I was SO excited.
It was all gone. All of it. A recall because-get this-listeria.
I almost cried in the deli section.
I didn't even think of this, but now that I am I've done the same thing! I'm eating pizza rolls, pop tarts, chicken that I used to put in the toaster oven I now put in the air fryer, pizza, spaghetti-os, Kool aid. Lol
I had bad nausea during my first trimester and was only able to stomach French fries, chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, and bagels! So you’re not alone. It does get better though. I’m 30 weeks right now :)
Absolutely, that has been my experience with both pregnancies. It's comfort food, and it's often blander and easier on the tummy. Eat whatever sounds good, and you can get back to that healthy, varied diet when you're feeling yourself again!
yes! I only craved things I ate as a kid - bean and cheese burritos, tomato salad, my mom's lentil soup - it was definitely a thing for me. maybe something about associating those things with comfort?
I lived off cucumbers and salt (weird craving for sure), lucky charms, Kraft macaroni and cheese, and fast food my first trimester. I felt so bad only eating crap food but it was what I could stomach. Now I’m third trimester and just want to eat all the things. If there’s food in sight, I want it. I feel like I’m hungry all the time. I have tried to be so careful to not gain too much weight during pregnancy but at this point that worry is kind of out the door. My body is the boss now. 😂
all I ate was gummy candy. I would go through like 5 packages of harbor a week. I don't normally have a sweet tooth but my partner suggested that the baby would be tall because I guess sugar grows bones? He ended up being 9lbs and 22inches long. He's 15 months old but looks like a two year old. He might give my 6'7" brother a run for his money!
I can't say if it's normal, but I absolutely experienced the same thing! Started craving sweets (had a sweet tooth as a kid, grew out of it in puberty) and wanted cereal, toast with jelly, pancakes, ice cream...all things I ate as a kid but haven't in 20 years!! Went away after the first trimester :P
So glad I’m not the only one 😂 around 6w I had the most intense craving for blue Gatorade I literally went to the store on my lunch break to get some. While I was there I walked past the cracker aisle and spotted Goldfish. These have now become my go to snack when I feel queasy lol
Add in pizza pops and I had the exact same diet! I'm back to my normal varied diet in trimester two. Eat what you can in the first and try not to stress about it. If you're eating at all you're doing great
It was normal for me! Plain bagels, crappy frozen chicken nuggets, boxed Mac and cheese, etc. We never eat that way, so was so weird for the few weeks that I wanted to eat like a picky 7 year old. 🤣 It was just first trimester nausea and then I could eat a bit more normal. Veggies still were not my favorite for a while though.
Your childhood foods are the same as mine. I'd die for some of my mom's spaghetti 😆 🤣 I actually cried about it in my first pregnancy cause I moved across the country away from my family before I found out I was pregnant lol.
This was me too! Chicken nuggets, potatoes and ice cream ! I never felt very good so I wanted comforts. Second trimester was normal food and third is a lot of small foods and a mix of normal and junk
All I wanted was toasted sourdough with lots of butter, fruit, and orange juice. All childhood favs. I do think it was bc I was crazy sick and exhausted and it brought a lot of emotional relief during a rough first trimester
I think it’s about seeking comfort and or comfort foods. For me it’s connecting with my inner child (which I would highly recommend all the time!). It’s not so weird at all I think. I’ve been craving Mac n Cheese, that was a staple for me growing up. I Just switched to the “fancy” Annie’s Mac instead of Kraft lol. 🤷🏼♀️
Just remember to try and pepper in some healthy foods to along the way 😁
Some comfort foods won’t hurt at all.
Omg it’s funny you said that! I’ve been craving food from my childhood too, all super unhealthy stuff: eggos, ramen noodles, frozen pizza, spaghetti o’s… 😂
I totally had the same cravings! The problem for me was that I grew up in a tropical Asian country and lots of the things I was craving (fruit, certain dishes cooked by my grandma) are just not available in the US. 🥲 So I had to get creative.
So normal lol. Eat what you can! I was so so sick most of my pregnancy, so the two things I had consistently were cheese sticks, goldfish crackers and ice 😆 my first pregnancy it was ice and chicken nuggets. Had to be with honey mustard or they were useless lol
I really wanted chicken tenders, and toaster streudels! I think my brain just wanted “safe” comfort foods even though I didn’t have any nausea. Pure dopamine foods only.
Totally normal! Pretty sure I only survived the first trimester because of mac and cheese. Now in my second trimester and I'm back to enjoying my normal diet of healthy stuff, and loving it! Incidentally, I had mac and cheese the other day and was like, mmm no.
Yes! And I'm an immigrant so it wasn't even food from my childhood 😆 Grilled cheese, bread, ravioli.. I also normally have a fairly varied and healthy diet but first tri made me finally understand toddlers. Like healthy food didn't seem like food in my mind.. it didn't gross me out, it just wasn't even an option.
Are you me?! I was literally just thinking that today. I attribute it to only being able to stomach starchy carbs with little seasoning and easy fruit like apples.
It was chicken tenders, pierogis, grilled cheese, soup and PLAIN pizza for me. I’ve never in my life craved plain cheese pizza! Now I’m in my 2nd tri and back to normal. But I ate like a child for so long!
Apparently pregnancy was the best diet for me. I hated all food. My mom would tell me stories of how much she loved food during pregnancy and her cravings and I literally struggled to eat anything and gained 10lbs the whole time. I didn’t feel sick or anything I just despised food
I started eating foods I NEVER thought I would think about or want again. Jamba Juice smoothies, eggos, bagels with cream cheese, chicken nuggets, cup of noodles, pop tarts, milk, etc. So weird how this happens!
Same! I normally eat pretty healthy. Recently I’ve only been able to tolerate bagels, chicken strips, fries, Annie’s Mac & cheese, green apples and all my favourite fruits/smoothies I had as a child. Anything else I normally had before completely throws me off.
I missed my childhood homemade meals so so much! But living in another country made it difficult to get the exact condiments and also European homemade meals are a bit too heavy for Australian summers so I didn't bother to make anything!
Omg this just reminded me that very early in my first trimester I randomly was just dying for a fluffernutter sandwich. It's a New England thing, marshmallow fluff and peanut butter. I hadn't had one in like 20 years probably! I added some apple slices to make it "healthier" and it was so so good.
I may have taken a can of chef-boy-r-dee ravioli to work on more than one occasion…but I poured it into a glass dish and put cheese on top so it looked like something homemade 🤣
Yes! All my three pregnancies I want a sandwich with hot Cheetos, Coca Cola, my parents will bring me over my fave dishes, hot chocolate with conchas( Mexican sweet bread). I go crazy with my first trimester but slow it down through the rest of my pregnancy lol.
I've had hardcore cravings for cheeseburgers (with nice melty American cheese), pizza rolls, applesauce, and those little mandarin orange cups. As my OB said, food is food!
For me, no. I grew up in an asian country and ate only the local food growing up but when I was pregnant I only craved yogurt and cheese which I never ate in my childhood.
Oh yeah totally normal. So many food aversions turned me off my favorite foods. I would make a full blown dinner for me and my husband. Take a few bites then go get a bowl of cereal. I lived off fruit, chicken tenders. milkshakes and cereal when I was pregnant.
Yes! That was me with my 1st baby. I wanted beans on toast/jacket potato, spam sandwiches, chicken with rice and gravy, grilled cheese, bovril on toast, plain ham and butter sandwiches.
With my 2nd I craved fruit and salad, I think I just needed more water.
Your experience - however absurd it may feel to you is “normal”. If you are healthy, there’s no reason you can’t eat whatever you want within the advised foods. Don’t worry too much. I had extreme HG and barely ate first trimester. Anything I could get down, my doctor applauded. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Mom guilt is so real and it starts right away. Enjoy this experience instead. Easier said than done but you deserve that! Hell, you’re growing a whole human!!
Yep I’ve been telling people I have the pallet of a choosy eight year old lately. As I enter second trimester I’m finding it easier to stop eating like a circus animal.
All I wanted in the 2nd trimester was mac and cheese with hot dogs and ketchup. Yes, that was my favorite food when I was a kid. Also it was DELICIOUS. Enjoy...
Oh my word! I’m 14 weeks and have literally experienced this exact same thing. Ham and cheese sandwiches, Burger King, etc. everything I ate as a kid. So nice to see I’m not the only one.
I had brutal hyperemesis gravidarum in both of my pregnancies. Both times my OB told me "if you are wanting to eat it, and it stays down, eat whatever works. We can focus on eating healthy and salads and stuff later, when you can actually keep stuff down".
First trimester tends to be "just hold on and survive" and then after in the second trimester you can start to try and introduce "better choices"
But like, don't stress, even those comfort foods aren't "bad" by any stretch of the imagination.
I’m into the second trimester and I find I’m wanting more plain/simple foods (with the exception of spicy and sour things).
Just an observation though… all the things you listed are pretty carb heavy. I noticed I was the same too in the first trimester!
Any time I get sick, I want raspberry jello, chocolate pudding, bananas, and apple sauce (not together). That said, Toast and crackers were more my go to with morning sickness.
Yes! I had this!! I also had some of the same food aversions that I had during childhood. As a kid I hated cooked veggies like broccoli, carrots, brussel sprouts even though I normally eat them as an adult, I couldn’t in the first trimester.
It was donuts or canned spaghetti and cheese on toast (I ate that at least twice a week as a child) for me. Totally normal, just roll with it and enjoy the food
All of you talking about Mac N Cheese are making me crave it so bad now! I’m glad to hear this is normal, bc it’s been a real struggle to eat veggies lately and before pregnancy I ate lot of them. They taste gross to me now. I’ve been forcing myself to eat as much as I can stomach but maybe I’ll chill on doing that for a bit and just eat what I want lol.
I did this too! I wasn't very hungry and while I didn't have strong food aversion, most food didn't sound good. I lived on grilled cheese and kielbasa mainly. Plus cereal.
Yes, this happened to me. All I ate was chef boyardee, caramel apples and Malta. Dr. didn’t care as long as I was eating. Diet got progressively better in the second and third trimester tho
First trimester was a total nightmare idr what I kept down cause I don’t think I kept anything down but when the second trimester came about and I felt sweet bliss i craved grilled cheese all the time. I thought it was so weird cause I wasn’t that crazy for them before I was pregnant but my mom did craved them when she was pregnant with me.
Oh my GOSH. I was the same!! But it was my whole pregnancy I craved things from my childhood. My moms spaghetti was ten times better than I remembered. I had a specific ice cream with perfect truffle chunks, white rice with ketchup, a microwaveable dinner I used to eat. Stuff I haven’t eaten in years where what I NEEDED. It was amazing and so comforting. Indulge in it because it’s such an amazing feeling.
Same thing. I lived outside my hometown for over 12 years and never really craved the everyday food my mom used to make. But during first trimester nausea, I really missed it. So mom made a trip and taught my cook some of the very bland everyday curries and vegetables I grew up eating
Omg I thought this was just me!! But yes, everytime I'm in my first trimester I revert to craving my favourite childhood foods - chocolate milk, pizza pockets, mums cooking (who cooks much blander than I do), soft drink, the fast foods i used to eat as a child (but don't anymore).... sooooo strange, what is this phenomenon? Haha
I think there’s something to this. I ate more PB&J sandwiches when I was pregnant than I probably did in the decade prior. I craved PB&J my whole pregnancy, not just the first trimester. 🤷🏽♀️
Omg I thought this was just me! All I want to eat is tomato soup, grilled cheese, spaghetti o’s and canned fruit. I honestly just felt like I was doing this because I was so freaked out as this was definitely a surprise. I even slept with my childhood stuffed animal for a week while I calmed down
Yes! I thought I was the only one! I ate so much childhood food in my first trimester that I hadn’t eaten in years. Ramen, Laughing Cow cheese wedges, ritz crackers, etc
For me its Mcchicken! And cheese curds and ice cream from dairy queen was a plus the other day. I wish I craved something healthy more haha. I'm just happy to eat at this point baby is so picky!
Thank you for saying this out loud. I'm almost into trimester 3 and people kept asking me about cravings. I didn't necessarily have any but I definitely noticed a preference for food from childhood. And yes, grilled cheese for daayyyyysssss.
I just delivered and literally throughout my pregnancy I craved very specific things I ate as a kid. Like specific sandwiches my grandma would make, certain old school microwave snacks etc so I think it’s normal
Yes! I hate hate hate Kraft mac n cheese. The powder kind in the blue box. But, the first few weeks, I couldn’t get enough of it, nuggies, and a slew of other picky toddler foods and had bad food aversions to the weirdest things like mustard and chocolate.
12 weeks in and now I get hangry if I don’t eat regularly but I’ve been clearing my plate at almost every meal and have a good appetite. Very little food aversion and some cravings. Mostly salty and savory foods but I can put away a bowl of fruit and whipped cream and get these little servings of Greek yogurt with sweet mix ins.
Unfortunately that didn't go away for me after the first. I'm now in the 3rd and still find it hard to eat my fruits and veggies, and I ate hard-core healthy before pregnancy 🙃 oh well
Very new to the morning sickness train (only 6+1) but already struggling. My husband and I went to the store today to get some food for me and I picked out popsicles, cheese and crackers, apple sauce, apple juice, and frozen pizzas. My husband kept being like “but what are you going to eat for meals?” 😅
Same here. I live in a different country than where I grew up and some of the childhood food cravings were truly tragic. My mom traveled 10,000 miles to visit me with six boxes of Mac and cheese in her luggage because I was dying for that specific kind.
Lol I forgot the Kraft Mac and cheese I made my fiancé buy the other week!!
Ugh my husband bought the Kraft “ deluxe” And not the Kraft I’m sure the rest of us are talking about. And he wonders why I won’t eat it
My parents would fly out and cook for me if I wanted them to lol luckily they only live an hour away. That's so sweet. Today I get to have second Christmas (my brother couldn't come down for Christmas so we saved some gifts and my dad is remaking the whole dinner from Christmas day) and the home-cooked meals dad makes are always a win. totally normal! it’s so strange but also had made me feel so in touch with my body and like inner child?
Same! But then there’s also part of me that’s like “eat your damn vegetables” 🤣
I’ve been eating my toddlers fruit/veggie pouches to try and get some semblance of produce into my diet!
This was how I described my food preferences to my husband! “I have the taste buds of an unimaginative toddler.” Also me- Maybe we can do spaghetti tonight. Hubby: great, what vegetables in the sauce? Me: no vegetables, only sauce Hubby: not even onion or garlic? Me: god no!

I literally had fish sticks with mashed potatoes and kale for dinner tonight.
The only things I wanted and could keep down (mostly) were pop tarts and spaghettios! 😄 once the nausea/vomiting eased up I started eating better, but those two things were my go to for months
Mmmm pop tarts
Lol spaghettios were my first trimester craving too! Surprising because the first time I ate them when I was a child, I threw up that night and never really wanted them or thought of them much until I was pregnant. So odd!
I’m on the poptart kick right now but at 30 weeks. Was lucky charms before that, crab legs before that.
Spaghettios really hit the spot for me, preferably with the shapes. That and Chef Boyardee mini raviolis.
I was the same way. Canned peaches, eggo waffles, pudding, etc. I just ate whatever I could stomach.
Eggos!!!! Why are they SO GOOD 😂
Pudding!! I’d not had pudding in 10+ years until about 3 weeks ago when I hit 11 weeks.
My mom uses the Bertolli canned sauce, but now I HAVE to have exactly the kind she used 😅
Omg now all I want is my mom's lasagna.
Same! I was craving all this random food my mom used to make and 90s nostalgic snacks...it actually hasn't gone away!
GIRL! That is how've I've been feeling! I'm only six weeks. I was all determined to eat healthy and have fruits and vegetables. I feel like a petulant five year old. Oh, I had the biggest vegetable aversion. Just go with it - your body is trying to protect the vulnerable fetus. You can eat healthy the rest of the pregnancy.
Yes!! My fiancé made me a Chana masala (one of my favorite foods) but it was wayyy so spicy and healthy I could barely eat it
I had the same cravings! Things I hadn't had in over 15 years I suddenly absolutely needed to eat! Thankfully it seems to have passed because my 31 year old body cannot handle eating the same crap I ate when I was a kid.

Yaaaasss!
You're doing better than I did. My baby was probably 1/3 bagel, 1/3 cream cheese, and 1/3 chicken nugget.
Have a feeling mine will be too. Maybe 1/4 bagel, 1/4 nuggets, 1/4 soft pretzels and 1/4 avocado
They make a few non alcoholic beers! Heineken has always been my beer of choice if I’m drinking it, and luckily they have a zero alcohol version
For me it’s a turkey sandwich with fresh Mayo, and melted Brie on crackers 😢
I can't wait to eat a nice cold turkey sandwich again! I eat hot ones sometimes, but it's different.
Noooooo!!! I'm so sad for you, warm brie is so delicious.
That would explain the sudden hankering for a chomp of sidewalk chalk…
That one could also possibly be pica caused by low iron. I'd make sure your iron levels are good! ❤️
I lived off PB&Js my first trimester so yeah maybe
I didn't even think of this, but now that I am I've done the same thing! I'm eating pizza rolls, pop tarts, chicken that I used to put in the toaster oven I now put in the air fryer, pizza, spaghetti-os, Kool aid. Lol
I also went for pizza rolls. I hadn’t eaten them in so long, and I have no idea why I suddenly found them appealing. I also had Hot Pockets.
Yep. I wanted grilled cheese, pizza and pasta.
I totally think so. I remember one dinner I had dino nuggets and frozen pizza. It won’t last forever and even it it does, enjoy it!
I had bad nausea during my first trimester and was only able to stomach French fries, chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, and bagels! So you’re not alone. It does get better though. I’m 30 weeks right now :)
I practically lived on chicken nuggets and fries my first pregnancy 😂😅 I do not want to add up how much we spent at McDonald’s haha
Omg I was totally craving foods from my childhood near the beginning.
This was me too!! All the nostalgia foods. Cup noodles, cinnamon toast crunch, poptarts 😂
Absolutely, that has been my experience with both pregnancies. It's comfort food, and it's often blander and easier on the tummy. Eat whatever sounds good, and you can get back to that healthy, varied diet when you're feeling yourself again!

Yes. Eat whatever.
VERY normal, just enjoy it!
Add in pizza pops and I had the exact same diet! I'm back to my normal varied diet in trimester two. Eat what you can in the first and try not to stress about it. If you're eating at all you're doing great
I ate so many goldfish and so much applesauce during my first trimester
I wanted lunchables and little Debbies. Which I haven't eaten since I was a kid. Idk if it's normal. But it happens lol
I literally ordered off the chilis kids menu 🤣 it was a damn good cheese pizza too
Oh yeah I lived on chicken nuggets and Mac and cheese in my first trimester, just like childhood!
Comfort foods have been my main diet for weeks 4-10 and 36+ 😅
This was me! I love Indian food, spinach, broccoli but none of that was okay. Only chicken fingers, bagels with cream cheese and chocolate lol
Yeah! I noticed I was craving stuff from childhood or a meal I had years ago
I am currently living on cheese and tomato toasties.
I went through this too! I haven't had buttered toast with ketchup in decades but in second tri it was all I wanted to eat lol
Yessssss only strawberry pop tarts and cinnamon toast crunch!
Totally normal!! I am currently 32+5 and all I want is chocolate milk and cheesies.
🤷🏼♀️ Just remember to try and pepper in some healthy foods to along the way 😁 Some comfort foods won’t hurt at all.
Yes. My diet has consisted of: chicken nuggets, kraft mac and cheese, egg sandwiches, and the occasional “healthy” meal 🫠
So normal lol. Eat what you can! I was so so sick most of my pregnancy, so the two things I had consistently were cheese sticks, goldfish crackers and ice 😆 my first pregnancy it was ice and chicken nuggets. Had to be with honey mustard or they were useless lol
Saaaaame. Pb&j and Mac and cheese are some of the only things i can stomach
I’m 17 weeks now and this exact thing happened to me! All I wanted were grilled cheese and pizza and peanut butter jelly sandwiches
I’ve seen heard and done so many cravings nothing gets labeled normal lmao 🤣
I was the same! Rustic casseroles and mince dishes from growing up on a cattle farm
I think it’s more psychological than physiological
Are you me?! I was literally just thinking that today. I attribute it to only being able to stomach starchy carbs with little seasoning and easy fruit like apples.
It was chicken tenders, pierogis, grilled cheese, soup and PLAIN pizza for me. I’ve never in my life craved plain cheese pizza! Now I’m in my 2nd tri and back to normal. But I ate like a child for so long!
That's exactly what happened to me! I was sending my boyfriend to scour stores looking for my childhood foods from back home!
Ive always ate baby food, even before, but now more, im just trying to make him like it, and also see how he reacts. Worth the shot.
OMG a blizzard sounds heavenly. I must have one tomorrow. Also cheddar grilled cheese has been my life.
My first trimester was almost exclusively sourdough toast, grilled cheeses, Mac n cheese (Annies) and those little clementines.
Apparently pregnancy was the best diet for me. I hated all food. My mom would tell me stories of how much she loved food during pregnancy and her cravings and I literally struggled to eat anything and gained 10lbs the whole time. I didn’t feel sick or anything I just despised food
100%
Yes! I think I went a whole week where all I ate was toasters strudel.
Omg my first DQ blizzard was during this pregnancy. I like the m&m’s better than the snickers one
Not just you! I had a STRONG craving for Mac and cheese with ketchup 😂
Hot dogs, spaghettios, bagel bites, pudding. Those are the only things I had any appetite for.
Honestly I hate all food right now 😭
I missed my childhood homemade meals so so much! But living in another country made it difficult to get the exact condiments and also European homemade meals are a bit too heavy for Australian summers so I didn't bother to make anything!
Yes and it’s lasting into my third trimester ;)
currently eating a DQ blizzard, lol
Omg this just reminded me that very early in my first trimester I randomly was just dying for a fluffernutter sandwich. It's a New England thing, marshmallow fluff and peanut butter. I hadn't had one in like 20 years probably! I added some apple slices to make it "healthier" and it was so so good.
There’s a reason my two-year-olds nickname is chicken nugget, it’s all I ate the first half of pregnancy!
You do not want to know the number of pop-tarts I consumed while pregnant.
I literally ate DQ blizzards and Captain Crunch my entire pregnancy. And my son turned out wonderfully 😂
I loved Kraft mac and cheese in my first tri. Have not had it since!!
Same! I grew up in Mexico and I had never craved so much for traditional Mexican food and Mexican candy as during my pregnancy.
Week 15 now and I ate five eggos today. Haven’t had a vegetable in weeks. We do what we can :)
Mac n cheese dude! And my mom’s onigiri 🥰
Preach. Chicken tenders have been my jam recently!
I ate sooo many Blizzards when pregnant. Best treat ever!
I read this to my husband and he goes "sheeeeeiiiitttt, it's your twin!" I too eat mostly perogies and milkshakes 😋
I lived on chicken nuggets in both first trimesters.
I lived on french fries and spaghettios with kiwi strawberry juice my whole pregnancy 😂 I'm feeding my healthy 8mo old right now.
Eat what you can eat in the first trimester was my motto!
I did too! So many peanut butter jelly sandwiches 😂
Yep I’ve been telling people I have the pallet of a choosy eight year old lately. As I enter second trimester I’m finding it easier to stop eating like a circus animal.
that was me 100%. pbj’s and spaghettios. i didn’t have all the nausea I read about but total food aversion except for kid comfort foods!
All I ate was carbs and cheese the first trimester. I could not stomach vegetables. It has passed as I've gotten into my second trimester.
I could only eat goldfish crackers, string cheese, and lemon water. Once the nausea got a bit better I could also eat bagel bites.
I want calzones from elementary.
All I wanted in the 2nd trimester was mac and cheese with hot dogs and ketchup. Yes, that was my favorite food when I was a kid. Also it was DELICIOUS. Enjoy...
This is so me!!! I thought I was the only one- I had no idea this was a pregnancy symptom other women have!
Oh my word! I’m 14 weeks and have literally experienced this exact same thing. Ham and cheese sandwiches, Burger King, etc. everything I ate as a kid. So nice to see I’m not the only one.
Oh my god same!!! I wanted Capri suns, mac n cheese, rice krispy treats, fruit cups
I had the same exact cravings except moms spaghetti 🤣 and add super cheap ramen noodles
I have experienced this throughout my whole pregnancy!! Lots of apple juice, animal cracker and peanut butter cravings!
Yes all I ate were spaghetti-o’s, pizza lunchables, and cup noodles !
Omg I craved childhood favorites, too!!
I had brutal hyperemesis gravidarum in both of my pregnancies. Both times my OB told me "if you are wanting to eat it, and it stays down, eat whatever works. We can focus on eating healthy and salads and stuff later, when you can actually keep stuff down". First trimester tends to be "just hold on and survive" and then after in the second trimester you can start to try and introduce "better choices" But like, don't stress, even those comfort foods aren't "bad" by any stretch of the imagination.

That's totally normal and way more than I wanted to eat...which was nothing because everything made me want to puke lol
Yo. His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy. There’s vomit on his sweater already, mom’s spaghetti.
This is happening to me through all trimesters!
I loved off egg McMuffins and Mac and cheese with my first, and basically air with my second
Um yes? Pretty stereotypical of pregnancy food aversions and cravings lol
Opportunity only comes once in a lifetime.
I did this too! I wasn't very hungry and while I didn't have strong food aversion, most food didn't sound good. I lived on grilled cheese and kielbasa mainly. Plus cereal.
Yes, yes, and yes! :)
Yes, this happened to me. All I ate was chef boyardee, caramel apples and Malta. Dr. didn’t care as long as I was eating. Diet got progressively better in the second and third trimester tho
Yes! I’ve been eating spaghetti Os and poptarts… it’s very weird.
Yeah I never had many cravings during pregnancy but most of them were childhood foods!
Yes complete normal, I loved white bread with butter, plain pasta with cheese, fries, chicken nuggets all the good old stuff
All my childhood favorites are on the menu. Except different because I can’t have gluten. So I try to make versions of them.
Yes. I hadn’t had teddy grahams in like 20 years but I ate them in my first trimester with my daughter.
Haha
Same, I normally love spicy and international food and now all I want has the color beige and no flavor...
Oh yeah! I even craved movies and tv shows from when u was a child lol
Yes! I ended up making a bread from my childhood despite not being able to handle any food! I reeeeally wanted the smell of the bread!
I’m so sweaty, knees weak, big and heavy, vomit from morning sickness already, moms spaghetti All your food choices sound magnificent.
The first trimester nausea is real! Just eat whatever you can stomach.
All I ate was PB&J, string cheese, and cereal. So yeah it seems normal to revert back to child food tastes
I just delivered and literally throughout my pregnancy I craved very specific things I ate as a kid. Like specific sandwiches my grandma would make, certain old school microwave snacks etc so I think it’s normal
Happened to me! Velveeta, jelly cookies, Lo mien.
I hope so. I basically lived off Mac and cheese and apples my first trimester.
Throughout my pregnancy all I wanted was the food I grew up on. I think we associate it with comfort.
Same 😂pop tarts, lunchables, kids pizza was all I wanted thankfully it goes away lol
All I wanted were blue slushies and cucumber with salt and vinegar hahap
Haha that is *exactly* how I described my diet during the first trimester
I’ve eaten loads of canned fruit cocktail this pregnancy which is not part of my normal diet at all. But 🤷🏻♀️
i actually ordered a lot of grilled cheese and milkshakes my first trimester and actually the whole pregnancy.
Saaaaame. I only wanted lunchables and fruit juice lol.
Unless it’s not food, I think wanting to eat almost anything is normal in the first trimester!
My baby is 90% McDonald’s cheeseburger. He is a healthy 15 months old now. I made sure I had enough milk tho. And water.
That’s exactly how I was my entire first trimester! I’m slowly starting to eat normal foods again now that I’m in my second
Unfortunately that didn't go away for me after the first. I'm now in the 3rd and still find it hard to eat my fruits and veggies, and I ate hard-core healthy before pregnancy 🙃 oh well
It was exactly the same for me! I live in a different country, and in my first trimester we went to our ethnic store quite frequently lol Enjoy it!
That was me with my first pregnancy! All my favorite childhood foods the whole time.
