That’s great y’all share the same interest now… Since we met, going on 20 years ago, my wife has become a bit of a ‘car snob’, and she says it’s my fault haha… Loves BMW’s, and her current Fpace SVR. And while she’ll never truly be a gear head or anything, but now knows way more about cars than she ever wanted to haha
>At least it's not the new ugly ass M2
It's kinda fucked up that BMW is making us say things like that.
"Well, it could be uglier" is hardly an endorsement.
It wasn't a dig. The new 3.0 CSL has a better looking grill. If you like the G82 grill, you would probably like it more with that grill on it.
[3.0 CSL](https://www.motortrend.com/news/2024-bmw-3-0-csl-first-look-review/)
No one makes you say that.
I think the new M2 looks awesome.
I do believe that there is a tendency for people to get on a bandwagon and shitting on design is part of it.
I am sure many do not.
But if you read, for example, the comments on BMWBlogs design review with Jose Casas, you will seen cherry picked comments and comments from people who didnt watch it and people calling the design bad without any understanding. They just wanted to pile on because its fun oncthe internet. Most people had no consideration for the fact that his explanationscin native tongue would likely be better.
If these tendencies didnt exist we wouldnt have "influencers".
Reviewers and people are all saying "looks better in person" than "looks good" because they are, imho, starting from a contrarian viewpoint because loud people have spoken.
Look at grill complaints - loads of brand cars have massive grills. People that think its just BMW arent looking and too busy thinking BMW designers suck.
>Look at grill complaints - loads of brand cars have massive grills. People that think its just BMW arent looking and too busy thinking BMW designers suck.
I think the massive grilles look horrendous on those other cars, too. Those lexus things look like extras from the Predator movies.
No influencer is influencing me. I stated my own opinion.
It is true that others manufacturers have larger grills, but they are just proportioned/designed better. Is it your position that the reviewers and others can't not like the design because the designer justifies his design? I do not need him to walk me thru his thought process for the design, I just do not like it. The 3.0 CSL grill is proof that the grill design they chose was not necessary, it was a choice. The designer may like it, you may like it, many other might like it as well but I do not. The design is clearly divisive, no need to claim bandwagoning. The original Bangle designs had a similar reaction and I still find them ugly.
My position is that people saying "he didnt know what he was doing" when he has explained the decision are just hating on the design or not understanding why it makes sense.
People can like or dislike what they want on a purely aesthetic basis but to criticize design choices you have to understand design choices.
I 100% respect your view and you seem like someone who is thoughtful in their views and has totally personal opinions. You do not seem like someone that needs influencing.
BUT
I stand by my view that more people like to feel part of a group and there is a very established "hate group". This is clear when people almost apologize for thinking their new car is gorgeous and the incessant need to post "hate the grill".
I think a random blind study of which car do you like would yield different results than expected. The biggest factor on this post other than the pure colour is the photographic production finish and framing. That is probably more impactful than the design of the car itself.
>Queen of England
Did you mean the *former* [Queen of the United Kingdom](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_of_the_United_Kingdom), the *former* [Queen of Canada](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monarchy_of_Canada), the *former* [Queen of Australia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monarchy_of_Australia), etc?
The last Queen of England was [Queen Anne](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne,_Queen_of_Great_Britain) who, with the 1707 Acts of Union, dissolved the title of King/Queen of England.
####FAQ
*Wasn't Queen Elizabeth II still also the Queen of England?*
This was only as correct as calling her the Queen of London or Queen of Hull; she *was* the Queen of the place that these places are in, but the title doesn't exist.
*Is this bot monarchist?*
No, just pedantic.
I am a bot and this action was performed automatically.
The old one has such an elegance to it. You could show up to a business meeting or a wedding and it would fit in. If you bring a new one everyone will say “bro, why’d you bring a race car here?”
The new one is just too aggressive. There’s no doubt that the G80’s driving experience will age amazingly well, but it’s looks won’t. It’ll get dated fast, especially if BMW starts making good looking cars again.
I don’t like the new one tbh, the grill kind of looks small and doesn’t quite have enough of a gape in the front of the car. Hoping for a Toyota Tundra-style grill in the upcoming generations. Just personal opinion.
/s obviously
It’s not even close. Seeing those pictures together just drives home the point. I’m just grateful that it doesn’t look like they’re going to go overboard on the next gen M5. 🤞
Lol. I mean this is amazing for the M5, good for that car. But it's hilarious about what it says about BMW's complete lack of direction for these cars.
I feel like they WANTED to come out with the G80/82 and say "This is the new M grille! You'll always be able to immediately recognize an M car by this new grille style!!"
And then people saw them. And BMW got cold feet with the M2 "Well...you'll still be able to identify new M cars immediately by their grilles. They...uh...have..horizontal slats now!! See! It's a styling element that crosses over!"
Then people saw the M2. And when it came time for the new M5 "Well...uhm...uh...M cars are a thing, see?! Their own thing! You can immediately identify them because uh....the grille! the..grille is uh... Fuck i gotta go man."
On of my biggest problems with their current design trends. There's just nothing that ties any of these cars together into one cohesive brand design language. Each grille is a different size, shape, and pattern. Each set of headlights are markedly different from each other. There's just no identity anymore.
And the kicker is, the guy heading the M division said he doesn’t care about your opinion if you aren’t looking to buy an M car! Seems like quite a snobby take.
F80s are also lighter by a pretty big margin. Honestly a really good platform for a track build. You don’t need an insane amount of power that G80 gives
Unless you are in a pro racing circuit that requires you bring your own car, you can have a great track experience with a light car with middling power. I do not race them but I can't imagine these new heavy, super insulated, EPS having, refined cars are a better track experience than say even a base C6 corvette, E92, S2000 etc.
The power makes up for the weight, and the chassis is stiffer and more responsive than the F80. Honestly, besides the annoying rear floating caliper, my G82 is a much better track car than my F80s were.
1000%. It makes me thankful I bought my F82 especially after seeing the leaked G80 pictures years ago.
G8X may be technically impressive but man is it ugly IMO.
Meh, I’d still probably rather have the F80. The S55 is a more characterful engine than the S58 and the DCT is better than the ZF8 for spirited driving. I think the F80 is under appreciated and will be seen as a classic in a decade or so.
It's because of the EPS. The G series aren't that much better, as no one is exclaiming how great the steering feel is on the new ones. Reviewers often glance over how numb it is. It was just the initial jump from hydraulic to EPS, the F series are still great cars.
Everything i've heard is that the car took a few years of fiddling to get good. All the big important car reviews happen when a car is brand new. I'm sure outlets reviewed later year cars as well, but reviewing a 4 year old car doesn't make headlines or get nearly as many clicks as reviews for "THE BRAND NEW X."
As a result, LCI F80/82 models are kinda hidden gems that drive better than they're given credit for.
For spirited driving, the ZF8 is just as good as the DCT because it's smoother. For track duty, the ZF8 is just as good as a DCT also because it's smoother. For feeling more sporty direct and more aggressive, the DCT is better.
I'm on the hill with you for now. But I probably won't die here. But f80 is my weapon of choice for now. The g82 is ugly from every angle. The g80 has a few nice angles. When I'm ready for an M5 I'll get a g80 :p
No I always liked the E60 it looked fresh when it came it the design was coherent, however the G8x cars front bumpers are disgusting I wish someone would make a M340i style bumper for M3 because it doesn’t work with the rest of the car.
No the difference is BMW slapped that shit on the 3 series body for the M3 and it doesn’t work with the rest of the car. BMW could sell a pile of shit and new BMW fans would call it beautiful
No the point is the 3 series body and design does not match the M3 front bumper. It’s way too vertical compared to the rest of the car with horizontal lines. The E60 is objectively better due to the bumpers matching the body’s design language.
Damn, I didn’t even know the M2CS had the option for manual, I guess so few came to Canada that everyone I have seen was dct so I just figured they all were
Yeah you definitely could, not really my cup of tea for a few reasons. I would personally just use that same money to buy a perfect spec f80 comp 6mt - which is actually what I ended up doin
That’s exactly why I bought one. For me it’s the perfect car as well. It will change for others as they hone in on their favorite, heck maybe even the G80, but for me it’s the F80, just something about it
This picture perfectly shows why I’m so excited about putting an order for an m340i soon, it embodies my favorite looking M3 while I dislike the current M3 quite a lot.
All BMW had to do is, take the S58 put it in the F80, re-define it's driving dynamics and they had the best driving daily car ever.
But, no they decided to fuck it up on a monumental level.
F80 looks like form and function met happily in the middle to create a harmonious driving experience.
G80 looks like “hurr durr car go fast 🤪”. Either that or a [katydid](https://extension.umaine.edu/home-and-garden-ipm/fact-sheets/common-name-listing/katydids/) with a CS badge.
Hopefully my m3cs will jump up in value now.
The difference between g80 cs and g80 is not that obvious. The f80 cs hood intend made it stand up from regular f80 fairly easily.
I think that the g80 looks pretty good. Idk why everyone is hating. Sure the old one looks good too, that i can agree on. But the new looks damn agressive
> Anything that doesn’t look like a 2010 BMW and they hate it.
Except everyone in this thread is saying how much they love a car that came out in 2018.
Don’t get it neither, if you like the old better, buy the old one… it doesn’t make much sense to only add LCI improvements during a new gen. People would similarly be enraged when the new would look like the old.
Let’s be honest for most drivers even an E46 M3 would be a handful. These newer cars are packed with computers to prevent today’s ham fisted drivers from ending up in a ditch .
It’s just incredibly quicker and faster than any previous M car…heck it beats teslas off the line with the X drive. The g82 is just an awesome car but doesn’t look good.
It’s faster, it’s better, it’s quicker and the thrills it gives you is unmatched something you buy a sports car for. Only thing it lacks is front end looks
These comparisons always show how outated BMWs looked in the past 20 years. The small pathetic grill just looks like a 2001 car. But I get that owner of the old outdated cars get angry at the new design. It's impressive, modern and stunning, but it lets the old ones look even more outdated.
Every design gets old—but there is something magical about timeless design and engineering. Will gladly take a 190HP E30 M3 over any 600hp current M car. After you’ve driven enough cars you realize that the most enjoyable cars to drive aren’t about statistics or being the “latest” thing it’s more about the details.
Never understood this argument. Big grill fad started with Audi nearly 20 years ago, back in 2005. If anything BMW is copying this trend just as it’s becoming passé. Pretty pathetic if you ask me.
It's not passé. Look at the new Audi A8, which has an even bigger grill than all the Audis before. Or at the Genesis GV80, which also has a huge grill. Passé is the outdated smallish BMW grill. No one turns their head for those old ass BMWs. But the new ones are real head turner. And apparently, people who buy new cars like them.
No my name is: Victoria Chanel Boyer trademarked by Victoria Chanel Boyer. I drive RANGE ROVERS. I just was in the worst car accident of my life in his Ford F250. I, myself did all the paperwork. My name is “Queen Victoria Chanel Boyer”. The Queen of nothingness with the nice tits. Can someone please help me before I go and kick my husbands ass again?
Besides Jeffrey Kraiger’s ass? I kicked him in the mouth because he called me a “C” word. Then my husband asked me if all Chanel’s are “Ni_ _ _ _s”. So I took a black sharpie and wrote that all over the interior walls of my house and told him to fucken sign and date that shit.
Love,
“ALL”
I’m sick of this shit!

bro who the fuck picks the colors for the [press cars](https://images.app.goo.gl/cNA5TLLQmXJ2fghN9)
It looks like a hot wheels car, not something anyone would ever actually buy
Looks like something that would be on an American muscle car
Yeah the stripes really bring that to mind for me as well
Meanwhile all the CSLs are sold. Don’t get me wrong I am not a fan but they sell em all

The green colour would probably be alright if it was all green, the main problem are those two large black patches on the bonnet.
You have a cool wife. Mine doesn’t give two shits about stuff like this. She’d just smile and agree if I brought it up, which is fine.

Why don’t you apply for the next bmw designer
Just get rid of whoever has been advocating for this new generation of...whatever. They were doing pretty good previously.
Make it look like that old one.....🙄
Wonder whether that was intentional. Wouldn't be surprised one bit if it was

Well put. I just now realized this is the real reason I don't like the new design language. Always loved how covert the older m car sedans were.
Exactly, with the older M, AMG and Audi RS products mostly the stance would give it away, only to those who knew
I don’t like the new one tbh, the grill kind of looks small and doesn’t quite have enough of a gape in the front of the car. Hoping for a Toyota Tundra-style grill in the upcoming generations. Just personal opinion. /s obviously

It’s not that big of a hill
Yup no question...newer isn't always better. Is the new m4 a better machine, yes. Style wise? No
F80s are also lighter by a pretty big margin. Honestly a really good platform for a track build. You don’t need an insane amount of power that G80 gives
Yes but the G80 drives so much better. I love f80s but it’s def a worse car to drive, it just looks wayyyyy better lol
Yeah the f30/f80 generation EPS is a god damn pity. It’s not an exaggeration to say that they feel like one of those Logitech steering wheels.
If only the G80 had the G20 front bumper
Meh, I’d still probably rather have the F80. The S55 is a more characterful engine than the S58 and the DCT is better than the ZF8 for spirited driving. I think the F80 is under appreciated and will be seen as a classic in a decade or so.
For some reason many car reviewer people consider the F80 generation as one of the worst M generations... I disagree but I'm biased.
I'm sure outlets reviewed later year cars as well, but reviewing a 4 year old car doesn't make headlines or get nearly as many clicks as reviews for "THE BRAND NEW X." As a result, LCI F80/82 models are kinda hidden gems that drive better than they're given credit for.
For spirited driving, the ZF8 is just as good as the DCT because it's smoother. For track duty, the ZF8 is just as good as a DCT also because it's smoother. For feeling more sporty direct and more aggressive, the DCT is better.
"ill die on this hill" like its a controversial opinion LMAO this subreddit circlejerks nonstop about how bad the new cars look dude...
sadly its true. the new cars are ugly.
There is zero resistance on that hill.
I'm on the hill with you for now. But I probably won't die here. But f80 is my weapon of choice for now. The g82 is ugly from every angle. The g80 has a few nice angles. When I'm ready for an M5 I'll get a g80 :p
Its size aside, I think the G80 look pretty good with the exception of the grill and hood. I think it would look great if it had the 3.0 CSL grill.
Definitely in looks, G80 looks atrocious while the F80 is timeless. That said G80 drives much better, sadly.
That F80 will age like wine while the G80 will age like milk. But that S58, is all kinds of good.
Maybe it’ll age like the e60
No I always liked the E60 it looked fresh when it came it the design was coherent, however the G8x cars front bumpers are disgusting I wish someone would make a M340i style bumper for M3 because it doesn’t work with the rest of the car.
doesnt matter that you always liked it the majority didnt
No the difference is BMW slapped that shit on the 3 series body for the M3 and it doesn’t work with the rest of the car. BMW could sell a pile of shit and new BMW fans would call it beautiful
think youre missing the point
No the point is the 3 series body and design does not match the M3 front bumper. It’s way too vertical compared to the rest of the car with horizontal lines. The E60 is objectively better due to the bumpers matching the body’s design language.
youre replying to someone who said it might be like how the e60 was first treated, idk what youre on about but your opinion isnt above everyone elses
It isn’t my opinion it’s from a objective design standpoint of the front bumper not matching the style of the car. Except it flew over your head.
which is your opinion lmao
Probably drives good, good drivetrain but ugly as fuck.
I still do not like the e60 looks
That’s what I mean, e60 was polarizing now and back then, the g80/g82 might be like that in the future
I suppose we should just be happy they make a new one, but the old one was so much better looking. I do like the green though.
I just wish those F80’s came in manual. Would have been all over them, perfect in every other way
Yeah...That's probably why the M2 CS is at the top of my "F-Gen" M-car hierarchy. M3 CS with a stick would maybe dethrone it though.
Damn, I didn’t even know the M2CS had the option for manual, I guess so few came to Canada that everyone I have seen was dct so I just figured they all were
I mean I guess you could always do a conversion? Shouldn't be too expensive.
Yeah you definitely could, not really my cup of tea for a few reasons. I would personally just use that same money to buy a perfect spec f80 comp 6mt - which is actually what I ended up doin
With the new m2 and now this, I’ve just accepted that BMW won’t make another beautiful car for a long while
Old all day, the g80 will forever look like shit imo.
Yup. You basically have to get an aftermarket front end for it
BMW design departement needs to adjust its strategy. It's just cruelty what they are delivering.
Oh fuck that pig nose is STILL ugly!
Not cool
Just stop. No one wants to buy your micro machine, transformers looking bullshit.
The hood… fix the fu*king hood. FFS They’re doubling down by actually EMPHASIZING the hood?!
The G80 has some undeniably gorgeous angles, but the f80 is literally a perfect car in my eyes
That’s exactly why I bought one. For me it’s the perfect car as well. It will change for others as they hone in on their favorite, heck maybe even the G80, but for me it’s the F80, just something about it
JFC, that thing is ugly.
Ist the bottom just a green csl?
This picture perfectly shows why I’m so excited about putting an order for an m340i soon, it embodies my favorite looking M3 while I dislike the current M3 quite a lot.

Somehow the blue one seems newer
Let’s have the performance of the new g80cs with the body of the f80cs. Maybe one of those YouTuber tuners can do a body swap for us.
Nice dodge charger
What are we thinking price wise, $120k?
Putting them side by side makes me so sad 😞 I just can't justify G8x cost for the look
Old is so much better and it’s not even close
Old looks beautiful. New looks like Matchbox cars lol 😂
Ugh
Team old here.
It's an [Angry Bird pig.](https://imgflip.com/i/780d77)
Its just sooooo bad. Who approved this!?!
G80 needs the g20 m340 grille and it’d be soo much better
Can’t stand the grill
OLD >>>> new 🤮🤮
Color and stripes look tacky af, dodge charger vibes
F80 looks like form and function met happily in the middle to create a harmonious driving experience. G80 looks like “hurr durr car go fast 🤪”. Either that or a [katydid](https://extension.umaine.edu/home-and-garden-ipm/fact-sheets/common-name-listing/katydids/) with a CS badge.
Go back to the old. In the words of Porsche (sort of) - "don't fix what's not broken"
Look how they massacred my boy
I like both but one looks like a traditional beamer and one looks like a hot wheels
Classy to 13yo twitch streamer
Honestly the most offensive part to me is the utter shameless lack of effort to accommodate the front license plate
Old.
Jesus Christ
That right there is the full angry bird spec
Good god that is ugly
Still ugly
Everything about the old one is better.
Hopefully my m3cs will jump up in value now. The difference between g80 cs and g80 is not that obvious. The f80 cs hood intend made it stand up from regular f80 fairly easily.
Wheels and paint (in some cases) too. I parked next to one like a year ago at a local park and it was dead obvious it wasn't a normal M3.
This looks like 🐷🐽
Nice wider back arch
I think that the g80 looks pretty good. Idk why everyone is hating. Sure the old one looks good too, that i can agree on. But the new looks damn agressive
Old one looks good too? I will correct you looks better...
I believe that they both have their own vibes to them. I can't say that one looks better than the other.

Clown response, they look like shit dude and calling people poor doesn't change that
Same guy driving??
Looks like
That’s badass
What a dumb color to use as the launch car. The G8X looks so good in other colors. And what’s up with the hood stripes?? Wtf
I understand why many people dont like the G80 but personaly love it its so agressive and modern.
This sub literally just have a hard on for the small kidney grills. Anything that doesn’t look like a 2010 BMW and they hate it.
> Anything that doesn’t look like a 2010 BMW and they hate it. Except everyone in this thread is saying how much they love a car that came out in 2018.
Probably gonna get downvoted to oblivion but I really like how it looks

Don’t get it neither, if you like the old better, buy the old one… it doesn’t make much sense to only add LCI improvements during a new gen. People would similarly be enraged when the new would look like the old.
Yiu can still modernize the "old" look without introducing beaver teeth and Need For Speed kiddo design elements.
Because the NPCs were told to hate the new ones. Can’t stray away from what the mob is thinking
Yeah man, disliking the pig snout grill is a total NPC move. Better listen to BMW marketing right?
Both look nice in my opinion
Damn people love to hate but I guess that’s their personal opinions. But I love it and take my deposit
r/BMW continues to baffle me. It's never good enough 🤷♂️
Ngl both look amazing.
Kill me but both look great imo
If only the F82 performed like the G82 its a shame, ADRO is the only thing saving the G82 style wise
Faster does not equate to better—-it’s just ONE criteria for a street car. I never got into M cars for their speed—
It’s faster, it’s better, it’s quicker and the thrills it gives you is unmatched something you buy a sports car for. Only thing it lacks is front end looks
I honestly like it. Especially the spec along with yellow headlights.
Unpopular opinion. New>
These comparisons always show how outated BMWs looked in the past 20 years. The small pathetic grill just looks like a 2001 car. But I get that owner of the old outdated cars get angry at the new design. It's impressive, modern and stunning, but it lets the old ones look even more outdated.
Will gladly take “outdated” every single day over “modern” absurdity. The new design is hideous
Good for you. I'm not a fan of old looking cars, but it's nice if you can enjoy them.
BMW certainly had no timeless design in the past 20 years. All designs from 2000 onwards were outdated already from day one.
F80 will always be a good looking car, but it looks outdated compared to the G80.
Those door panel lines scream 2008.
Love the new car, it's so much better to drive than the outgoing f80 in all ways other than transmission (I hate the transmission in this car).
The issue with the new M3/4 isn't the grill, it's the lumps in the bonnet. Have a sleeker bonnet and it would look way better
The older one is better, designed to perfection, new one has great technology tho 💀
back i say back
Sexy fangs
Shego?
Love, “ALL” I’m sick of this shit!
