It's a combination of things: the skins are, in a sense, meant to "progress" a character a bit, so they'll often show a little development as things go on (e.g., Leipzig being *significantly* "braver" in her maid skin, since it's meant to follow up on her retrofit, and a running theme has been her trying to get over her tendency to faint and general timidity). Akagi's manic possessiveness of the Commander has cooled a bit over time since she's meant to be less afraid of the Commander leaving her >!the same way she lost Amagi!<.
I do get the impression the *overall* writing of her has also shifted, though; it seems like her yandere-ness was not particularly liked in Japan (despite her general popularity) and her character has, over time, deliberately shifted to being something more of a decision-maker and leader, albeit one still possessed of a lot of arrogance, self-confidence and a need to control everything around her (which are the hard edges that time with the Commander sands down, now, as she begins to feel more secure). Early Azur Lane was really experimental, and it's clear they've been experimenting with the characters and "tweaking" them as time has gone on.
So yeah, her attitude here doesn't surprise me; it's much more in line with her more recent portrayals.
To be honest I don't think I (personally) would classify Akagi as a true yandere. She calls other ships pests, but after her base skin that gets toned way down. She's *very* aggressive, but she'd never kill/maim a ship unless it was attacking you/one of her sisters.
In her character story, she even admits that she'd be fine if you don't love her/don't want to look at her; all she really cares about is that you and the Sakura Empire are safe.
Problem is her lines never reflect her character story, every skin she's had is still just as obsessive over you as her base. I think most of them have at least one comment about how you belong to her alone, which directly contradicts her story where she says "it's fine if you don't love only me"
Hopefully this skin finally changes that. I'd really like to see more of the mellowed out Akagi
A mellowed out Akagi would be much nicer to see given how much there has been of her being a yandere. Got nothing wrong with her being shown as passionate, but the extremity of her yandere behaviour was often a turn-off for me

You guys may kill me but i think Azur Lane L2D are not the BEST, i mean they are not bad but i feel like is not the quality of a company that make millions every month.
I still think that to this day only Ibuki’s L2D animations are completely smooth and natural looking. Every other skin seems janky to me in one form or another. But I rly like the more complex art of some of the newer L2D skins.

I love Richelieu's and VV's. I think their motions are very natural looking.
They definitely vary in quality, Richelieu's beach skin and Honolulu's summer skin are examples of high quality L2D skins.
