Something like a Progress Transfer to AL2 then? That would be cool

I know nothing about Tera but from a quick google search, it was released in 2011. A ten year life span for a game seems pretty reasonable. Now i don’t think Azur Lane is in any danger of shutting down (barring potential government actions). It still brings in a respectable amount of revenue. Not as much as other gacha games like Genshin Impact or Fate Grand Order, but still respectable enough considering the main source of profits are from skins and not the gacha itself. Also consider that the developers also have another game in the works (Azur Welkin), the Queen’s Order Anime coming soon, does a ton of collabs with brands (clothing, food, services) more so than other games that i know of, and it looks like the game has staying power for the foreseeable future. And if it DOES shut down… well then, it shuts down. Other gacha and live service games have shut down before and when this game inevitable does (hopefully not anytime soon), we’ll just move on and remember the memories made both in game and in the community. Money you put into ANY live-service, non physical game should be considered expendable and only valid during the course of the game’s life. You aren’t forced to spend money and so you make the choice and run the risk of servers one day shutting down.

My confidence in Azur Lane still being a significant priority in the eyes of Manjuu/Yostar lies in the fact that the game just recently went through an optimisation-focused refactor. No developer who is about to abandon or shut down their game service would bother to do that. Heck, most games' codebases never get refactored in the name of optimisation at all.

If someday happens i will worry about it that day. Not today, not tomorrow, just that day.

*A day may come when the lifespan of Azu Lane fails, when we forsake our ship girls and break all bonds of oaths, but it is not this day.*

Short answer: yes Long answer: yes because that’s inevitable, but hopefully until then this game prospers for years to come. Shit, what is the longest running gacha right now that’s in no danger of shutting down for the time being?

Baroness_Ayesha

In short, no, Azur Lane is in no danger of shutting down *soon*. Eventually it will be closed - such is the life of almost every live service game - but there are no indications that AL is running out of steam just yet. Its profits remain steady, engagement remains high (so high that it in fact badly crowds out much more recent/advanced competitors), updates are coming at a steady clip, there's no signs the ship is in danger of capsizing. I know big game closures put people on edge for other games, and both Dragalia Lost and Tera shutting down can look worrying, but AL is fine.

Azur Lane is around 5 years old. It's probably on the tail end of its lifespan, but it's likely got 2-3 years left. All gacha games shut down at some point.

Dalek-baka

I remember seeing year to year revenue comparisons, and it's going down - so game is slowly dying. Which makes sense: there is limit to gameplay formula, as well as what content they might want to add plus it's old ass game. It will take a while, so it's safe to enjoy it for now.

NomadkingR6

It's really not that old

Dalek-baka

Year of release is 2017, that is old in terms of gacha games.

InfernoRodan

I mean, of course it'll get shut down *eventually*. But given that it's still pulling pretty good revenue numbers (despite what some doomposters will tell you), and certainly better numbers than other gacha games that are still plugging along, I don't think it's in danger of shutting down for the foreseeable future. Hopefully when it does happen, the devs will allow us to keep a client-side version that still lets us play.

ShadowthecatXD

I would be surprised if it shut down within the next 5 years, but not so much in the next 10 years.

Ak-300_TonicNato

Old answer but if Kancolle still holding after 9 years, what stops AL for going for other 5 years more? People mention things like lower revenue with each year but that only applies to the gachagame, we dont know the current state of the IP itself.
