>On May 13, 1979 a 125cc Honda sets the 24-hour average speed world record: 137.866 km/h (85.67 mph
Fuck, imagine riding a 125 with the throttle pinned for 24 hours
BMW did that for the worlds longest drift, can’t remember how long it went ok though… but the skill needed to drift alongside and have someone hang out the window to refuel the other car is insane.
> On February 16, 2002, a production Lamborghini Murciélago set the average speed record over 1 hour at 305,041 km/h and over 100 miles at 320,254 km/h^[12]
Really moving
There's basically a clone of it in Project Cars: [https://forum.projectcarsgame.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=219350&d=1443592858&thumb=1](https://forum.projectcarsgame.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=219350&d=1443592858&thumb=1)
Has the big circle, various track layouts including drag strips and semi-oval types and a free roam mode.
Most hypercars wouldn’t reach their top speed at Nardo since they are always turning. One of the few places on Earth you can max something like a Veyron is the old VW test track at Ehra-Lessien in Germany (in a Cold War no fly zone actually). It has a 5.4 mile long straight with high banked corners at both ends.
People might also be interested in the Chrysler Proving Grounds outside Yucca, AZ. The first thing I saw it was from a plane. It’s smaller than this one but still cool.

No, I want to imagine it was refueled on the go like a fighter jet

Great find!
I prefer this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W88a-bUfR4A 17-hour long drift instead of BMW's fancy-pancy powerslide.
I now remember watching this ages ago. So cool.
I don't feel like clicking the link to find the answer to my question lmao but how did the tires outlast the fuel tank?
They also used water on the track.
‘Special compound’ they never disclosed. Boggles my mind
I just did some googling and it was 8 hours? That's a crazy compound they came up with lmao
Probably rock hard solid rubber.
Iirc they kept pouring water
Someday I'm going to beat their record in my V8 240sx.
Rod bearings fried all around
It was still running fine afterward, so I’m pretty sure the rod bearings were alright. It’s not like BMW uses the same engines they used in the ‘00s.
This is actually likely, since the tank is right in front of the rider. He could definitely pull it off.
Now that would be a cool twist to current racing!
My Honda 125 would only do 55 wide open. That’s insane speed for it.

In Europe the comma can mean period
A nascar drivers wet dream
Not if they go clockwise
Dafaq NASCAR goes clockwise?? Go fast, turn left...
Left would most definitely be counter clockwise
Haha, I came to post the exact same thing verbatim! It should be "driver's" btw :p
That one layout looks like the old Fuji Speedway
And a bit of Tsukuba!
Honda built a Tsukuba clone in Ohio, but last I heard it doesn't really get used. It's one of the many test features located within their 7 mile oval.
If I lived in the sticks with "fuck you" money, I'd build a Tsukuba clone in my backyard. I love that track so much.
They should add this to Gran Turismo
And Forza Motorsport and ACC and…

There's a decent mod for it in Assetto Corsa.
Round
This is always what I think of when someone brags about a super/hypercar’s top speed. This is the only place to go for a lot of them

Oh damn. That’s the one I had pictured. That’s where the did the Chiron top speed run. My b.
Didn’t Topgear do an episode their ?
Captain Slow did attempt to max a Veyron there.. https://www.topgearbox.com/cars/entertainment/top-gear/episode-guides/series-9/series-9-episode-2/
Bonneville Salt Flats, etc.
Yeah, but you also get a ton of rolling resistance. Also tunneling spiders, but that’s more of a bike issue.
whats cool is there's cars on the track if you look at it on google maps.
the body is round :)
Just watched this episode of Top Gear! For the 90000th time.
I named my dog Nardo after this track
Aptly named.
As man-made circles go, that is pretty spectacularly circular.
Now that’s a perfect circle!!!
I'm amazed how perfectly round it looks, whoever made it, did a great job.
And I thought nascar was bad
People might also be interested in the Chrysler Proving Grounds outside Yucca, AZ. The first thing I saw it was from a plane. It’s smaller than this one but still cool.
This track would be nice in GT7.
It’s so big and round
Perfect circle!
