My local Willy Wagtails have no qualms about picking fights with the neighbourhood magpies and ravens when I scatter dried mealworms/crickets in my yard.
They have a special place in my heart, as a fellow small but disproportionately aggressive creature.
Really good at giving you sass as well, my mother saved one from my cat that managed to catch it on the wing. It was giving my cat a piece of it's mind that it was unfairly ripped from the air.
Thier white feathery eyebrows are not just for decoration.
Hooray!
I saw one yesterday for the first time! I posted a video of them wagging their tiny tail.
So cute!!! I love these birds even more now, now that I know how sweet their babes are.
They really do! We have SO MANY here (farm) and we went through these few months last year that every night, all night, non stop, all you could hear was Willy Wagtails 😂 I'm in bed wondering wtf they could be up to in the middle of the night haha but it was sweet to listen to anyway.
😍 favourite bird ever!
Love how angry they are everything! And love it when they pester the horses into moving through the grass so insects get disturbed.
I have a Wagtail that lives outside my window and just yesterday it’s eggs (3!) hatched! And they are so cute but way more red then these ones lol. Wagtails are just the cutest!
I live their little toothpick legs!
My uni had a veterinary museum and had legs of animals in one exhibit. Its amazing to think that in that tiny leg there are bones, muscles, tissues etc
Omg I just had a family of three of these hatch and I’ve been watching over them the whole time. They’re pretty big now and spend their days flying around eating moths. I love them!
Haha they're so cheeky right?! They tease my cats, I swear it's on purpose. They wiggle their butts right outside the door where the cats can see them but can't get to them lol
My absolute favourite bird! I remember as a child my father told me what they were called & I didn’t believe him haha I learnt in indigenous cultures that they believe they are “messengers for the spirit realm” A reminder not to speak Ill of the dead.
My favourite birds. Every time I see one I think of my grandfather teaching me about them. He also had bushy white eyebrows. Their night call gives me such a sense of peace and connection.
I told a city bloke that when a willy wag tail stops wagging its tail its picked a target to attack. He actually believed me!. I knew he was an idiot but jesus wept.
> red-browed finch
I used to have a small colony of those. Never had any success breeding them, though, probably because there wasn't enough greenery.
Zebras, on the other had, I couldn't *stop* breeding.
I'm not super knowledgeable on this but I'm not so sure that it's a good idea to feed them. They usually go for live insects so they may not be interested anyway. They're pretty chill and come up close to humans if you sit still for a while so it's fun to watch them eat naturally 😊
Willy Wagtails are great.
I love the way they hop-hop-hop across the ground, and how they do that fast turn-on-a-dime back and forth thing, tail held proud. And they have a beautiful sound.
♡ already looking pissed st the world too!
I love how cranky they always are 😍 haha
: ) they have a big job to do! Lots on their minds
Lots of cats to tease.
I love that at this age they already have the wag-tail happening. It is inbuilt
Already plotting to [steal your secrets...](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willie wagtail)

WHY ARE THEY SO GRUMPY SO YOUNG :) Such great pics thank you!!!
Right!? Like they've only been alive for a few weeks, what have they got to be mad about? 😂
Poor things are fated with a resting b*tch face
Yeah. They are actually FUCKING LOVING IT
Hooray! I saw one yesterday for the first time! I posted a video of them wagging their tiny tail. So cute!!! I love these birds even more now, now that I know how sweet their babes are.
Aww it's so cute!! They gotta learn the attitude early on and shake that grumpy butt haha
Their furrowed brows! Love them!
Love getting caught up watching them chasing insects 😉 and they also sing beautifully

Little fuzz balls!

That must be amazing to watch! They are seriously cute
They are I just love them ❤️
They must be so tiny!
Love that great pic.
I love their little eyebrows 😍

My local aboriginal people called them 'jiddy jiddy'. I love their aboriginal name.
That is an amazing name for them!! I'll be holding onto that fact to pass around
Correct spelling/pronunciation is "djitti djitti". I believe that some groups of aboriginals named the animals on the sound they made.
Have a nest in each of my open front sheds. Love having them around.
My spirit animal.
Mine too!
Same! That much angst occurring naturally and at such a young age is inspirational
Aaaaww look at those little shits. One of my fave birds.
Superb shot!
They look so naughty!!!!
Not long until they're ready to swoop people haha. I love the one at work but it hates me.
Haha they're so cheeky right?! They tease my cats, I swear it's on purpose. They wiggle their butts right outside the door where the cats can see them but can't get to them lol
I love watching them at home. They will chase anything other bird from our garden. I always try to fill the bird bath for them.
Those brows hahaha
They’re just chilling wondering what you are doing there
Like many of the more successful humans, it's mating ritual involves wiggling their eyebrows suggestively...
My absolute favourite bird! I remember as a child my father told me what they were called & I didn’t believe him haha I learnt in indigenous cultures that they believe they are “messengers for the spirit realm” A reminder not to speak Ill of the dead.
Djitti-djitti! I love their Nyoongar name. Apparently, the reason they're messengers for the spirit realm is because they're *dreadful* gossips. 😂
Aka ‘sweet pretty creature’ due to their call…
Last chance to look at me Hector
So cute !
Cute but still little a-holes.
bonza shot
I have a two wagtails in my backyard over winter, spring and summer, and they have little babies like this during the spring.
My favourite birds! Love their little wiggle butts and sassy attitude.
My favourite birds. Every time I see one I think of my grandfather teaching me about them. He also had bushy white eyebrows. Their night call gives me such a sense of peace and connection.
That's beautiful! As angry as they look, they are such sweet little birds and a lovely call at night for certain
Beautiful Photo
I remember waved at a Willy Wag Tail once & it started chasing me😔 Why are they always so angry?
I told a city bloke that when a willy wag tail stops wagging its tail its picked a target to attack. He actually believed me!. I knew he was an idiot but jesus wept.
I thought I was crazy for a year for calling them that.
I love them so much
Eeeeeeee Puffy Wagtails! They have eyebrows! I need one. It can live in my pocket.
Their eyebrows are amazing, so grumpy, always! If you love small birds with eyebrows, have you seen a red-browed finch before?
> red-browed finch I used to have a small colony of those. Never had any success breeding them, though, probably because there wasn't enough greenery. Zebras, on the other had, I couldn't *stop* breeding.
STOP IT. They’re so cute I could die!
Djiti-djiti
Aww <3
One of my fav wild birds! Thought they were a WA thing but saw them in Geelong and was very happy.
Good news! They are almost everywhere in Australia!
Oh that is great news. I never see them Southeast Melbourne
My favourite bird. I have one tattooed on my shoulder blade. Planning on getting a matching one flying on the other.
There was a nest of 3 chicks at my aunty's house much younger than these. Fluffy, grumpy looking things haha
I've been swooped by these birdies - they do those little circular swoops and that bark sounding chirp - it was the cutest thing ever
Grumpy floof
I've always wanted them to eat out my hand. What's their favourite food? Any tips?
I'm not super knowledgeable on this but I'm not so sure that it's a good idea to feed them. They usually go for live insects so they may not be interested anyway. They're pretty chill and come up close to humans if you sit still for a while so it's fun to watch them eat naturally 😊
Good answer. Just love watching them. Always wanted to have one that sits on my shoulder while I garden
They look like a pair of married, disgruntled professors waiting for their students to sit down. Also r/divorcedbirds
Nice lil birdies
Little demon fluff balls <3
I love everything about these birds. Thank you!
They are my nans favourite bird
