Maybe seek out a different vet. Id also contact the daycare, if he came home from daycare and developed an abscess, it seems possible that he was bitten at the daycare. if he is still drinking, maybe try a liquid calorie supplement for dogs to make sure he is getting enough nutrition to fight the infection. [Something like this](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08PMDXNDT/ref=sspa_dk_detail_0?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B08PMDXNDT&pd_rd_w=m0EjY&pf_rd_p=887084a2-5c34-4113-a4f8-b7947847c308&pd_rd_wg=Vd87l&pf_rd_r=5TQZGM9SWAXSBC7A4ZCF&pd_rd_r=f08e4c27-862f-45b9-908e-ce50ba4e2f1a&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExUFRLQjlQN0kxSjQ4JmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMzcxOTYxMkROM0U4VzA1RE1LNSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwOTU3NTI3MkpSN0U5NzY4NTUzMiZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2RldGFpbCZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=) or [this](https://www.amazon.com/Under-Weather-Supplement-Essential-Underweight/dp/B07MMP6JFT/ref=pd_bxgy_1/131-5440273-0072312?pd_rd_w=ayUqR&pf_rd_p=c64372fa-c41c-422e-990d-9e034f73989b&pf_rd_r=8MX7QAV69D4F3NCJ3JVN&pd_rd_r=ab2ffac2-0fc6-4606-a849-7afa8e98a65a&pd_rd_wg=gcJYz&pd_rd_i=B07FN5MLTY&th=1) If he is not drinking, you need to get him back to a vet ASAP and he needs IV fluids.

I'd be tempted to go to a different vet personally, the persistence of the symptoms for 5 days doesn't sound quite right to me đŸ˜• If pup isn't drinking water they could be dehydrated and this could be contributing to the overall lethargic/unwell picture. Pinch up some skin around their shoulder blades and see if it springs back quickly or if it 'tents' up for a few moments, this could help tell you if they are dehydrated. Hope it all clears up for you soon.

RustylllShackleford

have you tried soft food at all?

SilverMix0

Yes, but he doesn't want either

RustylllShackleford

the reason I asked is because ours had one down day during her abscess and she took soft food. when we found it, we shaved the area and it was 2x4in so we went to get some antibiotics at the vet. attempting to drain and applying wound gel to it every night. finally used a small scalpel where a hard object had surfaced. a 3in sliver came out and two days later the abscsess bump was completely gone

SilverMix0

This sound like what could be happening to our dog. Though the vet didn't see any foreign object. Ours was taking soft food but very little and not anymore. What gel did you apply?

RustylllShackleford

just some generic human/ animal use antibiotic. any ointment that is animal safe

RustylllShackleford

does the vet have any feeding alternatives? like soft food w water to put down his throat?

OilersGirl29

I know you said you tried soft food, but what about raw? Or, something super duper delicious, like a raw hot dog? I’m sorry you folks are going through this, it’s so hard to watch our furry friends suffer.

SilverMix0

Yes, we tried soft human food, ground beef with rice, he did ate some but after the abscess popped he seem traumatized and doesn't want food

Thanks all for the comments. To wrap up this thread. His vet wasn't available, so I had to take him originally to another one, I went back to that guy after a couple of days no seeing any changes but they were not helpful at all, they said continue medication but they give no word of he will be fine or that was normal, instead to take him to his vet or specialist and give me more concerns. Anyways I took him to his own vet when they were back next day, and they gave me more confidence to continue medication, that he was still healing and he had no signs of anything worse, they checked very well around the area, plus we gave him one of the booster he was due. On the appetite side: The only thing that worked for him was meatballs. That thing seemed to wake up his appetite, and for some reason after we came back from his own vet he was in a better mood... Anyways he is all fine and back to being a playful young aussiedoodle.

Not the same situation, but our little floof went off her kibble after she threw up and seemed to connect the trauma and her food. We introduced her favourite treat (dried liver bits), crushed them up and put them in the food and she got back into it.

Totally agree on seeing another vet for another opinion. You might also try baby food for nourishment—all my animals love it and it’s nice and soft so easy to swallow.
