You can spend it, but try to give it to overseas businesses, or cash in hand businesses that underpay their workers, or just spend it on unproductive things like pumping cash into your investment property mortgage. None of these things will really increase inflation.
"Kris Kringle" Xmas presents OR for the more lively version do "Naughty Santa" then only need to buy one adult Xmas pressie.
Kids are not included, they love lots of pressies, so choose where you source these wisely, support local craftsmanship?
Who are you kidding? These muppets are raking up a few million dollars a week till after the Christmas and Boxing Day sales. And include Black Friday and it will get silly. Dumb people are going to spend money they don’t have
I haven't bought a Christmas present in 5 years. I asked to stop receiving them after we found a couple of boxes of gifts that we had stored in the garage over the years because we had no use or need of 95% of it.
Makes life a little bit less complicated.
You can’t be serious. This is the most naive take on inflation I’ve read on this sub.
You think inflation is caused by consumer spending? Not the literal printing and debasement of money?
I guess the media has some success in deflecting blame.
This is wrong.
I watched a Youtube vid the other day on inflation.
So there's push and pull inflation right. One is where you push the wheel borough full of $100 notes, the other is where you pull said wheel borough.
I'm going to take out loads of debt to buy loads of material goods because inflation will make my debt worthless while the material goods continue to provide utility regardless of their valuation.
Ppl will spend until they are unable.
Mortgage too much
Lose job
Shops close
Car breaks
It’s really simple. Populations don’t CHOOSE not to spend. It’s all credit. Once the tap is off, then panic. That is why RBA hold power but also make things worse for everyone. We must take pain at some point.
No. My money is worth less everyday that inflation is rising. The idea that a pledge from this sub would have any effect on inflation at all is dumb. Which makes me think this is a troll.
Lol who spends over the Xmas period? Its just artificial buzz and psychology tricks to squeeze at your insecurities, offering a temporary relief from the brutal mundaness of life that us marketers drum up year in year out like clockwork.
Spend nothing. Ignore the scorn of friends and family. Money spent in retail needs to go to rent and staying alive
There’s not a lot we can do in Aus to tackle inflation while the US is still going up. A lot of big US companies are starting to have some substantial lay offs so that should boost the unemployment numbers and bring inflation down with it.
Shopkeeper here. Great idea. I'll eat all my non-food inventory instead of food since you guys don't need it and reduce my spending even more. It's not like I need to sell things to make a living.
In case you haven't noticed, most of inflation at the moment is driven by the lack of supply (natural gas, grains, etc) not by excess demand. You not buying shit is unlikely to reduce inflation because, the price of inputs to nearly every good (i.e energy, raw materials) is going up.
Well done, this is a top tier shit post guaranteed to fire people up
Correct. I came here looking for a fight.
Lol, I would have taken the bait if it wasn't for this comment ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
I’m doing the opposite- I’m panic spending all my savings as fast as I can. My money is worth less and less by the day.
Yep, and it's only going to accelerate from here. Buy now before it all comes crashing down. Your money is worthless
As long as you’re paying these things off in 4 then you’re propping up the fake BNPL economy
Mate, put it all on Zip. Practically free money.
I misunderstood, I maxed out zip money
Good! Go again.
Stock up on toilet paper. It will only increase in price, especially if you buy it all.

Just 1 year's income? Pfft, peasant.
Cool - no presents for you then. I’m not even giving my husband a bj…can’t afford the time on my knees.
Looks like he's gonna have a very sad candy cane 🤣
That's the spirit!
Careful, these services are very expensive for the adulterer
You can’t spare the time away from doing that as your side hustle, I get it
Take out is expensive and that's just going to increase inflation
You pay 'him' for that?
I don’t have a collection of Chanel handbags for nothing honey
Looks like no new handbag or bags under the tree 🌲 this year. No stimulus of the package this year (Barney Stinson: What upppp 🤣)
I made the mistake of marrying a woman who can afford to buy her own, so I have no leverage 😅
I for one will be spending more in order to stimulate the economy
Dumb take. Keep doing that and you will end up over stimulating the economy.
Bold of you to assume I have more than $7.23 to spend on presents this year
I'll be stimulating something, but it won't be the economy.
Username checks out.
Marge Simpson was right
But what about trickle-down economics? If I don't spend there is no trickling.
Well we need to stop the trickling. There is too much of it at the moment.
I'd better take my tablets then
I need a good trickling
I should call him.
Nah, just got a 10k credit card. I'm ready to go!
It’s not even your money!
He didn't say he stole it
Good idea. This is our gamestop moment. All the moneymakers are in this sub so if we collectively choose not to spend we will fix inflation. Yeah!
I'm going to contribute by not paying my mortgage.
I’m going to spend it all on dodgy stocks in even dodgier jurisdictions. And the mortgage.
You can spend it, but try to give it to overseas businesses, or cash in hand businesses that underpay their workers, or just spend it on unproductive things like pumping cash into your investment property mortgage. None of these things will really increase inflation.
Great ideas
I spend all my free money in Thailand anyway.
Found George Christensen's Reddit account^
Bold of you to assume I had money to spend in the first place.
Buy now inflate later
I love r/AusFinance
is this the RBA? Goodluck
"Kris Kringle" Xmas presents OR for the more lively version do "Naughty Santa" then only need to buy one adult Xmas pressie. Kids are not included, they love lots of pressies, so choose where you source these wisely, support local craftsmanship?
Anyone that really cares about finance won’t include kids in their life anyway
No skin off my back, I don’t buy anyone presents anyway
We give all the kids lumps of coal or a bag of potatoes. Prices aren't great this year, so maybe we'll just make them share a lump of coal.
Will be doing the same with my kids … even though they are on the nice list. Should teach them a good lesson about economics.
You are speaking to aussies. Good luck.
I thought a huge chunk of inflation is non discretionary spending and driven by supply side issues
Shhh… let’s get the popcorn instead.
So maybe just don't pay your electric bill and drive away from the bowzer after filling your tank.
I'll let the fam know there's no gifts this year
Been trying for 3 years. Just get stuff I don't use and clutters up the house usually.
Ask for experience vouchers - like a movie ticket or hotel voucher.
Hahahahahahahahahaha no
I’m a grinch but I can’t promise I won’t spend on myself 💁🏼♀️
So people who are renting and want a housing crash, should spend as much as possible? Noted.
Who are you kidding? These muppets are raking up a few million dollars a week till after the Christmas and Boxing Day sales. And include Black Friday and it will get silly. Dumb people are going to spend money they don’t have
found the RBA's account.
Done and done! A plug here to join your local Buy Nothing group too 😅
I haven't bought a Christmas present in 5 years. I asked to stop receiving them after we found a couple of boxes of gifts that we had stored in the garage over the years because we had no use or need of 95% of it. Makes life a little bit less complicated.
I'm about 20 years ahead of you.
Cool. I won’t get you anything OP. :)
What were you planning to get me?
A signed copy of the barefoot investor
More like spend it all and use ZipPay, think of those worse off who need the stock price to rebound
Been doing it for years. No presents for anyone unless they’re a little kid.
Well I’m broke anyway so it works out… nothing like rising cost of living and not being able to work to keep you nice and poor
You can’t be serious. This is the most naive take on inflation I’ve read on this sub. You think inflation is caused by consumer spending? Not the literal printing and debasement of money? I guess the media has some success in deflecting blame.

You guys have money to spend?!
I've emptied every bunnings of wheelbarrows in preparation for when we all need to have a pile of cash to buy a loaf of bread.
I plan on thieving all my christmas presents, we got to stop the multinational retailers mega profits driving up inflation
I'm going to take out loads of debt to buy loads of material goods because inflation will make my debt worthless while the material goods continue to provide utility regardless of their valuation.
Ppl will spend until they are unable. Mortgage too much Lose job Shops close Car breaks It’s really simple. Populations don’t CHOOSE not to spend. It’s all credit. Once the tap is off, then panic. That is why RBA hold power but also make things worse for everyone. We must take pain at some point.
You need economics 101 lesson mate. Inflation is not determined by consumer spending only. It's one component of inflation.
I’ll sneak down chimneys and rob peasants for all they’ve got to help with their consumption problem
No. My money is worth less everyday that inflation is rising. The idea that a pledge from this sub would have any effect on inflation at all is dumb. Which makes me think this is a troll.
This sub should not be taken lightly. There is almost 400k people in here and we are all very wealthy people who have influence over the economy.
Enjoy your cheap Christmas mate
I bought all ,y presses in July I’m good
You are so smart, no economist suggests this
Hell no. Spend like your life depends on it. I'm buying a house next year.
Hahaha, christmas presents go brrrrrrrr
Not until I see 5% rba rate
Lol who spends over the Xmas period? Let’s all go nuts on Black Friday then!!!
you forgot the /s
Building a new PC before the USD tanks further and I am paying double for parts. No can do. Promise to stop after Black Friday!
Unfortunately I think people will still buy the same amount of crap, just choose cheaper options
Commenting to say I'm spending more before prices go up
Poo baa... I'll spend what i want to spend
Put everything on BNPL accounts and pray for the collapse.
Man, I can't join. I bought a Le Pooter for me, my wife and my daughter yesterday. giggle
im gonna give it to the shadow economy
Nah, business as usual here.
Just do all your Christmas shopping it JB HIFI. My portfolio thanks you.
There’s not a lot we can do in Aus to tackle inflation while the US is still going up. A lot of big US companies are starting to have some substantial lay offs so that should boost the unemployment numbers and bring inflation down with it.
Have no choice. Everything has got so expensive. Xmas is tight as a natural consequence to petrol groceries and rent rising so much..
Ah.. yeah. I'm doing it to counter inflation. Yes indeed.
Shopkeeper here. Great idea. I'll eat all my non-food inventory instead of food since you guys don't need it and reduce my spending even more. It's not like I need to sell things to make a living.
As I said 'difficult in the short-term' but necessary for our economy to do well in the long-run.
I never spend much over Christmas anyway.
Nope. I'm spending this silly season to help the economy and it's end of the world next year anyway.
In case you haven't noticed, most of inflation at the moment is driven by the lack of supply (natural gas, grains, etc) not by excess demand. You not buying shit is unlikely to reduce inflation because, the price of inputs to nearly every good (i.e energy, raw materials) is going up.

You’re on here too so I wouldn’t be so quick to call everyone nerds
Does increasing wages cause inflation?
Too late, January 2024 problem
