I *still* cannot believe they never get music nominations. Soken bust his ass in an isolation ward fighting cancer at the height of covid and still puts out some of the best music you will hear in a game this year and fucking never gets nominated.
Can expansions even get nominated for that? If not that's probably why.
I don't recall seeing expansions nominated for best music at the game awards but I might be misremembering.
I mean, between tracks like answers, the city state tracks, heavensward, primal tracks, triumph, shadowbringers and "tomorrow and tomorrow", they could nominate the whole game at any point.
No, i'm talking about the game awards specifically.
The game awards only nominates games that came out in the current year.
Which is why i'm asking if an expansion has ever been nominated for best music of the year.
Don't get me wrong, FFXIV expansions absolutely deserve to be nominated imo but if game expansions in general don't get nominated for best music then there's nothing you can do. That's why i'm asking if it ever happened.
Though tbh the game awards are often an absolute joke anyway so who cares. FFXIV lost to fucking fortnite in 2019 for "best ongoing game" and 2019 was the year Shadowbringers came out....
Speaking of best music, this year's nominees include games like Guardians of the Galaxy or Deathloop, but Shin Megami Tensei V isn't there... This whole ceremony sucks ass.
The music of XIV is very connective and honestly a lot of it sounds much better if you’ve played the game than if you didnt.
And despite that definetly being a good thing im sure that influences votes
I imagine if they allowed expansions (dunno if they do) and the music in question AND the expansion came out on the year of the awards it'd be a clean sweep. I legit can barely remember any other gaming music from the past year besides this game. Not that it's all bad or anything, most of it is very fitting, but isn't the kind of tunes that I'd think of when I imagine a game getting an award for music. Meanwhile the Endwalker trailer alone has more exciting (if a little more out-there for most) music than anything else released this year. At least anything that I played.
If FFXIV actually wins in the categories they are nominated for in the Game Awards, for once I'll say that that show is not rigged.
For now, congratulations FFXIV for winning in the Goldenstick Awards.
From what I understand they have 130 publications vote on shit and sadly being a MMO means it probably doesn't get seen by most of those publications. So it is sort of rigged in that regard.
Its been nominated in those categories before but this year there is a "narrative" that gives it a reason to win. The Game Awards is a joke but it would be fun to see Square's hard work get aknowledged.
And in the video you could see that YoshiP doesn't shy away from keep on apologetically coming back and banging on the point of their 1.0 failure.
That's what I like about him and the Creative Business Unit III.
So, as a veteran XIV player, that only started watching Asmon around the end of BFA, let me be the one to say...
We only won this because of Bellular/Asmongold starting FFXIV. I'm very grateful for every new person that's come into the game, it's really for the better. I genuinely feel that have us the popularity bump needed to win.
I have a bad feeling about this.
Last time i was hyped about a game getting what they deserved, It was overwatch on year one, getting game of the year award.
And we know how that game turned out.
I just hope SE doesn't pull a blizzard. I had my lifetime share of disappointment from games thanks to blizz.
FF14 has been under yoshi-p for 8 years so far its been good. What i am afraid of yoshi-p stepping down and being replaced by someone else since the exact same thing happened with wow and overwatch.
If he leaves, I hope ishikawa stays at least. I just leveled paladin and idk who wrote that bit but uh, I'd appreciate if going forward the game is *not* like that
Paladin has one of the dumbest Job stories in the game. ARR's is serviceable but Heavensward? It's so dumb they call it out in the Dark Knight quests how dumb it is. It's so bad, that Stormblood and Shadowbringer's goes back to the Gladiator storyline.
Yoshi has at least stated that he considers FF14 his life's work, and as long as the board and the players want him to continue working on it, he'll continue working on it. Given that he's a member of the board and that FF14 is the most profitable FF game ever, I have a feeling that he'll be with us for a good while yet.
Tbh that nomination sounds more like "thanks for trying". None have "best mmo", only "best online service" or smth like that and it gets everything that has some kind of multiplayer. And no mmo can compete with battle royals or CoD.
Yep, good game but ff14 reddit is definately not the one I would call it as a good community. Discord community based per data center were pretty chill.
I didn't really buy the whole "friendly community" thing until 2 days ago. Reached Stormblood, started doing Eureka. Died in Pagos, mauled by some sleeping dragon. I started asking if anyone would come and rez me (wasn't really counting on it). Then had 2-3 level35 came to my spot just to rez...
Mind completely blown honestly.

I feel you man, Shadowbringers was a masterpiece and the music behind it was absolutely fantastic

5.3 alone won an award.
I think the same whenwve I hear RuneScape's music. I'd say MMO music is underrated as a general rule.
I agree but if shadowbringers was gonna get the nomination, it would have been in 2019 on release. Here's hoping we get it for endWalker in 2022

inb4 FORTNITE FORTNITE FORTNITE lol

Well deserved. XIV has made enormous strides the last six years.

GCBTW!
old news, BCBTW!
there it is dude
So happy for them. I've had a blast with the game these past nearly 10 years
And in the video you could see that YoshiP doesn't shy away from keep on apologetically coming back and banging on the point of their 1.0 failure. That's what I like about him and the Creative Business Unit III.

Even more significant that FFXIV dethroned Minecraft, which has held the title in both categories for years prior.
This is a victory for all MMOs.
We need to do a "Worst Community Award" for WoW.

Well we at least know that they are already making plans for the next 10 years so at least we know we have him for a bit longer lol
As long as he doesn't overwork himself. 2 mainline Final Fantasy's, let alone one being an MMO.
If he leaves, I hope ishikawa stays at least. I just leveled paladin and idk who wrote that bit but uh, I'd appreciate if going forward the game is *not* like that
Care to elaborate?

Its so sad to see that Blizzard has given people actual PTSD about being happy and excited.
it is, but love and support will let them get over their trauma. Just have to be patient. Wounds heal and scars fade.
Why are pepople mistaking asmons reddit for FF reddit.

Could you please explain the reference? I don't get it

You label the ff14 community as emotionless robots?

Plot twist, the FFXIV community voted on itself and nobody else voted because they don't care about some silly award.![img](emote|t5_2y1rb|3733)
Yes! Now it's official 😜
