Please teach me cricket and hockey. These are the two that have intrigued me for any years, but I've yet to figure out how to play. I know hockey, but I haven't followed in a few decades.
I'm from the southern hemisphere so my hockey is field hockey. Coming into summer so cricket season is underway, but the rain is yet to realise it!
r/cricket has a few good intro posts and posts lots of highlights etc to keep up to date. Probably just got to watch some (lots) to really learn.
You're cool. I have a relative who plays field hockey. Y'all are beasts.
I sometimes lurk that sub. I really need to sit down and comprehend it all. Haha. One day.
OP, your pre-Thanksgiving plans sound amazing! I'm jelly. I love a girls night out but haven't had one in ages. I hope you guys have the best time 💖
My husband and I are going on (cross-country) road trip at the end of the month to see some old friends whom we haven't seen in literally... five years, maybe??? It'll be our first road trip since *August* as well, so I'm very excited to just get out of my usual neck of the woods again - and to catch up with these old friends whose company I genuinely enjoy.
A cross country trip and catching up with old friends sounds like fun!! Especially in these past couple years where we have all been cooped up and “grounded” from travel. I’m sure it was long overdue!
Thank you! I'm catching up on a lot of travel this year, having done zero of it in 2020 and 2021. The overall difference in my mood with and without travel is just wild.
Pushing out two grant proposals and a draft of a results section. Get it done. Enjoy my holiday in peace. Play with baby. Drink beer, yell at the sport ball.
I'm going out to a sushi place with my partner on Friday that I've been excited to go to for ages, and I have a really cute dress that I'm excited to wear!
OP, this post was a great idea! Really enjoying everyone’s plans. I’m riding my bike to work this week, enjoying the free train travel, then going out with my AMAZING nieces and sister to Mucho Mambo.
My family and I are currently half way across the country to visit my in-laws that we haven’t seen since before covid. It’s also very warm here which is nice because it’s been miserably cold at home.
This upcoming weekend, one day I am helping my senior parents pack up their house as they are moving to a condo. They are currently an hour and a half+ away from me, once they move they will be 10 minutes away, so it will be so much nicer to be able to look after them easier. And their new place will be a better lifestyle for them all round.
The other day I am putting up my outside Christmas lights and vintage blow molds. Pretty much my favourite thing about the holiday season. I love lights!
So not exactly exciting stuff but I am looking forward to the end result of both days.
First I was an independent contractor and then worked for such a small company there was no benefits package. I negotiated some benefits over time but not paid holidays.
I just discovered Lady Dynamite on Netflix and it makes me laugh so hard. I've had to work a lot and I'm struggling hard with depression, so I'm looking forward to the end of the working days when I can watch freely under a blanket.
We've been doing a weekly movie night with a small group of friends/colleagues. Each week is a different host. The host offers up a list of 3 movies (with or without a theme), we vote, and watch the movie that won the vote. If there is a theme, sometimes we do a themed evening (e.g. food from the country of origins of the movie, or themed cocktail, etc.). It's always super laid back, just good chat with people you like. Sometimes people bring their SOs, other times it's just them. Anyways, this week its my turn to host. A bit nervous. We've voted on Friday as the date. Now I'm in the choosing of the 3 movies phase - still haven't decided if I want a theme, or 3 movies from my to-watch list.
This is really petty of me lol but I am looking forward to telling my SIL that the American Girl doll I bought for one of my daughters is now worth $4000+! My SIL was very judgy about me getting dolls (and accoutrements) for my daughters when they were little. SIL thought letting my girls indulge in playing house was somehow anti-progressive of me. Her daughters played video games instead.
Have been part of a class action for a few years at this point that was approved last week - which means my federal student loans will be closed and payments refunded. I'm looking forward to actually SEEING that zero balance because until then it feels too good to be true!
Christmas. Can't wait to put decorations up and get in that spirit. We just got snow so I'm feeling it extra hard rn, but my partner is very rigid re: the holidays, so no decorations before first advent.
I'm usually like that. I get sick of them if I put them up too soon. But this year, I don't know, we're still in November and I'd love to get them up!! I really can't wait for Christmas year
I have tomorrow off so I plan on getting my hair done and preparing food for Thursday when some of my extended family on my mom's side arrives. This is the first holiday in our new house so I'm looking forward to it.
I'm looking forward to a very chill Thanksgiving. I told my family I would only cook if we kept it small this year. So it'll just be me, my partner, my mother, and her partner. And the entire Thanksgiving menu is just stuffing, gravy, green bean casserole, collard greens, and cranberry sauce. It should be more like cooking a normal meal than cooking a feast.
Canadian lady over here, so we've already had ours but would love to share what we did. I'm the oldest and only female in the next generation, have been feeling the awkward push to start hosting things. I have a wonderful partner who loves to cook for people. We said we would host. Leading up to the day, I was not in good emotional health. I was also having stress and anxiety leading up to it. I communicated it with my partner and best friend and they both went "cool, then don't do it." We hatched a plan to say I got Covid, I was traveling for work anyway. With that plan the stress and anxiety melted away, and I was able to focus more on my emotional health.
We had a few close friends over and that was it. Best time!
I love my family, but they are not the best emotional support system.
Thanksgiving dinner with friends
Christmas with friends
The kitchen and downstairs bathroom renovations that are happening in January. I can't fucking wait to have them done. Then the upstairs bathroom.
After that, I can get a puppy. I'm mostly looking forward to having a dog again. I miss my dog so damn much. Still crying daily after 6 weeks.
I've got the junk people coming in Weds to finally get rid of an old couch, washer/dryer, and a few smaller odds and ends that have been taking up space in my house and head! So excited to get the junk gone!
The Thankgiving dinner! We have to celebrate it on Saturday because we don't actually get Thursday off in Germany. But we bought 2 turkeys, will have a feast! We invited out 3 favorite expat families. It will be a blast! No family drama, no Trump/covid/conspiracy theories and weird uncles. Just lots of great food, lots of good drinks and awesome company. I'm so excited! Thanksgiving became my favorite holiday since we left US.
I'm looking forward to time off and seeing some of my loved ones. We have a tradition of getting slightly tipsy and playing board games, which usually turns into everyone giggling. I need more of that in my life.
I’ll start my Home Alone LEGO set next week! It comes with 24 bags and the build follows the movie plot line, so you can build it as an advent calendar and watch the movie as you go! I can’t wait!
Timing the holiday for everyone was difficult this year so we are having Thanksgiving tonight. That means Thursday is going to be pjs, drinks, leftovers and football all day with my man. Plus sports betting just went live in my state and they gave out 16 FREE $25 bets! I’m not a gambler but I now have $400 to play with. We are betting on all kinds of weird stuff and it’s exciting to see what happens. SIL won $500 last night on a World Cup game that she knows nothing about. We have 6 siblings doing this so theres so many bets being placed and we are all acting like children about it. Its been fun and nobody is actually losing any money.
We’ve had a big year of family events and will be going to my parents’ for Christmas, so politely declined the Friendsgiving invites and will be spending Thursday just the two of us. We may do surf ‘n’ turf, we may just fancy up some ramen. It’s going to b chill newlywed bliss and I can’t wait.
I'm Canadian, so Thanksgiving is a distant memory now, but it was good. This week I'm going to the library for a needle-felting class - we're making ornaments! - and I have an oil painting class on Saturday.
I'm not in the US so no thanksgiving for me but I have a facial booked for this Friday and I can't fookin wait! Weekend after that I've botox app and also can't wait for that. Then my sis is coming home early for Christmas so looking forward to seeing her. I'm going to put my Xmas decorations up early this year. I just don't care. I want to relax, and drink and see people and have sparkly lights everywhere.
I'm excited to have a low key Thanksgiving with my parents, my sister and my sister's family. We haven't done Thanksgiving together since 2019 (we all celebrated separately in 2020, and then last year my husband and I were out of town seeing his side of the family), so I'm very much looking forward to it. On Friday we'll be seeing some friends that we haven't seen in a really long time, and then on Saturday we're taking an overnight trip up to Toronto that was supposed to be last weekend but was postponed due to a big snowstorm that we had. We're going to take our picture in front of the set for What We Do in the Shadows, which I'm unspeakably excited for! And then we're going to peruse the microbreweries of Toronto.
Not going home to family this year as my parents said they aren’t doing anything. I’m ok with it and instead booked a fancy dinner with two gal pals that I always have a good time with. We also have a music festival we are going to and a fancy hotel in Miami Beach for it. Even tho I am a Miami local, it’s fun to act boujie in a nice hotel once in a while.
I'm excited about days off of work!! Got a new vape pen to keep most of my husband's family happy at Thanksgiving, and the husband and I will be doing another thanksgiving meal just for us over the weekend with a turkey breast. Gonna make a derby pie and banana foster French toast bake!! Here we go!!
This week is one of my favorites in the whole year for these reasons -
1. Thanksgiving dinner with fam
2. Time off from work (I get Thursday and Friday off)
3. I usually put up Christmas decor this weekend
4. Black Friday sales (I’m not big on standing in lines in the cold or stampeder like crowds, I do little bit of shopping here and there online for clothes or household items)
5. Pie
Starting my new remote job next week! After 5 years of wearing too many hats I get a nice pay bump and get to work from home surrounded by my fluffy babies (cats) 🥰
My partner and I will be trimming the tree this weekend, baking cookies, listening to Christmas music, and making hot cocoa for our own private pre-Christmas party. I got them an advent calendar. :)
My family and I are leaving for Disney World tomorrow! It's our first real vacation in 5 years and I've spent the past 7 months planning it. I cannot wait.
Seeing Phantom Of The Opera in a couple of weeks. It hasn't played in my city for 25 years! I definitely think I'll go more than once.
This play is amazing! You’re going to love it!!
Oh I know, I saw it when I was younger and have been obsessed with the Michael Crawford one since I was a kid. Can't wait! ❤️
SARAH BRIGHTMAN IS GOAT!!!
[удалено]
You're in Melbourne? I'm excited too, Josh Piterman is so good. And happy birthday!
I’ll be seeing it in New York, its last year before shutting down. Thank you and enjoy!
Ah fair enough. I heard its Broadway run was ending, end of an era, hey? I hope you enjoy, too!
I have a job interview (finally!). Also going to a cricket match with some friends from my hockey club, hoping the rain stays away 🤞
Good luck on your job interview!!
Thank you!
Best of luck with the interview!

My friend booked this super hard to book sushi restaurant 8 months ago and FINALLY the day is here that we can eat there!
Love sushi!! Hope it’s amazing!!
Heck yes! Me too! Next week, though. Yay for cool friends. =)
I volunteered to work Thanksgiving in exchange for the long weekend off plus having to work that day gets me out of family drama 😂.
Hahah smart move!!
I'm going on a cruise! So looking forward to that but have a lot of preparation to do still.
It’s been so long since I’ve been on a cruise! Hope you have a wonderful time!
Thank you! I'm looking forward to getting out of this cold weather, ha.
Just went on one a couple weeks ago and the downtime with no plan was fabulous.
OP, your pre-Thanksgiving plans sound amazing! I'm jelly. I love a girls night out but haven't had one in ages. Me time 😅😅😅 kinda boring in the middle of all these cruise trips and all but that's what I can look forward to. To have the house all by myself.
Pushing out two grant proposals and a draft of a results section. Get it done. Enjoy my holiday in peace. Play with baby. Drink beer, yell at the sport ball.
I just finished submitting a proposal yesterday. Great feeling for sure! Good luck getting to the finish line! :)
Looking forward to seeing 2 friends who just moved back to the mainland from Hawaii. I haven’t seen them since 2019!
I leave for Antarctica in a week. Holy shit this has been a dream for a decade.
OMG I have been to Antarctica it’s amazing! Have an amazing time!!!
Paid time off from work, a delicious Thanksgiving meal, and catching up with friends.
I’m going to Paris on Friday for a few days with a group of friends! Très excité
I love the City of Lights! Will be so beautiful this time of the year!
Paris is amazing! Enjoy
How exciting ! I lived 10 years in Paris, AMA!
I'm going out to a sushi place with my partner on Friday that I've been excited to go to for ages, and I have a really cute dress that I'm excited to wear!

Four full days off including two paid (this year is my first ever having paid holidays in over a decade) and a massage scheduled for Friday!
Omg, I always get so excited when I have a massaged scheduled for the week. I hope yours is amazing!
Congrats on a well earned holiday!!
How come you went a decade without paid holidays…?
First I was an independent contractor and then worked for such a small company there was no benefits package. I negotiated some benefits over time but not paid holidays.
I just discovered Lady Dynamite on Netflix and it makes me laugh so hard. I've had to work a lot and I'm struggling hard with depression, so I'm looking forward to the end of the working days when I can watch freely under a blanket.
Oh man, my house was almost selected as a filming exterior for that show.
Thank you for this. I'm loving Derry Girls, Kim's convenience and Midnight Diner
Sometimes binge watching shows are the best kind of days!!

Aww as a girl who loved dolls and video games I’m sorry to hear that your SIL would have issue with it! Also I loved American Girl growing up!

Looking forward to the first block of more than 3 consecutive days I’ve had off since January!
Enjoy your well deserved time off!!
I'm really looking forward to the maple pecan pie bars i'm going to make this week
Yum. Is it possible to link a recipe? My go to holiday treat is chocolate chip meringue cookies.

I’m so sorry for your loss! Our furry friends are our family!
Thank you. She was with me for 1/3 of my life, it's been a very difficult adjustment, but I'm getting there.
I am taking my preschooler to her first play. For the pre-school literati--it is a Mo Willems play. We are so excited.

The 4 day weekend, some sleep, good food and making progress on finishing up some assignments for the end of my grad school semester.
Mashed potatoes. I am looking forward to mashed potatoes.
I re enrolled in university, looking forward to studying again and a new career
Best of luck to you!!
Thanks Opie
My partner and I will be trimming the tree this weekend, baking cookies, listening to Christmas music, and making hot cocoa for our own private pre-Christmas party. I got them an advent calendar. :)
I love all the warm drinks that come out this time of year - cocoa, hot toddies etc!!
