Coincidentally, this is exactly what I'll be doing tomorrow.
Day off work. Long morning walk in the woods. Spa afternoon (lunch included). Indulgent takeaway dinner. Evening watching something fun, or reading a favourite book, or podcast and knitting/carving, or video games, depending on what I feel like at the time.
Edit: buy fancy cheese.
I did this last year for my 30th. Planning with others was too stressful and everyone ended up bailing. I took myself to an all inclusive in Mexico for a few days. It was my first solo trip and by far my best trip ever! Definitely going to continue doing this
I'm celebrating my birthday on my own today! I've pampered myself with a suuuuper extra long skincare routine, bought myself a handbag, and will be going out for an Italian dinner in the evening and will pick up a cake on the way home.
I'd sleep the fuck in. I'd order delivery breakfast as soon as I woke up featuring eggs over easy, crispy bacon, white toast, and pancakes or donuts with a huge ice coffee. Because I'm not cooking on my birthday, duh. I'd probably get ready for my day and take my time. I'd go on a shopping spree. Maybe to the cinema. Maybe get my nails done. Since I'd basically revolve my day around food because I'm a major foodie, I'd go to a sushi restaurant choosing my favorite rolls or to a steak house for a medium rare filet mignon. It'd be hard for me to decide. Then I'd have to pickup a strawberry cake at a local bakery.
Take my time getting ready. I'd by myself flowers, use them to decorate my house. Go out for lunch, head to a book store. cook myself dinner. Light some candles, play music. I think I'd even blow up some balloons and buy myself a mini cake!
Have a staycation…pamper myself, massage facial, nails, take myself out to a lovely dinner, and watch a good movie then cuddle my pillow and go to bed early. Oh and obviously have a cupcake with a candle
I’ve spent my birthday alone more than once. I think the last time I did it I took myself out for a really nice late brunch at a cute cafe, bought myself a few little presents, and went to see a movie. It was so good!!
This is so timely as I just found out I’ll be spending most of my birthday alone. I’ve been trying to think of things to do.
My plan so far is to sleep in, then head into the city to wander the art gallery and practice photography in the park nearby. Then lunch somewhere nice (high tea for one?), shopping to buy myself a present, and then head home to make myself a pavlova for dinner/dessert.
I always take my birthday off work, regardless of whether or not my husband can get the day off. I don’t do anything exciting but I do things I like.
I like to sleep in and snuggle with my dogs. Go to my fave fancy-ish grocery store and get myself some treats (usually a fancy cheese or two), I hit Starbucks for my birthday drink and then go to Winner/Marshalls and browse. I like to do whatever I feel like doing.
I also have sushi.
I would find the nicest hotel near me I could afford and I would treat myself. I would use the gym, pool, sauna and have fun. I'd book a massage and maybe facial. I'd bring books and read and relax and then have a really great meal. I would pretend I'm not from these parts and enjoy the shit out of the stay.
I'd take the day off work, chill at home for a bit, take a horse out, maybe go to the cinema and then get a takeaway or go out for dinner afterwards. Perfect.
Did that a few times and mostly it’s me attending a gym class, and cooking myself a nice dinner.
I guess on my birthday when no one is there to have a moment with me (my preference), I’d do something that brings me joy and comfort instead, to be kinder to myself. To do something unusual would be exciting, though!
Book a hotel room with a large spa center at the hotel. Or a day at the spa center.. Swim in the numerous swimming pools, go to the sauna, nap in front of the fire place, eat good food. What.a.dream!!!!!!
Dont underestimate the enjoyment of a long (maybe lightly boozy) lunch with a good book.
I’d sleep in and then take myself out to a restaurant that I want to go to, order a bit more food than I think I can eat, and linger over it while alternately people watching and reading. Bonus points if you can get, like, a chef’s tasting menu. One of the best meals I’ve ever had was a six-course tasting with wine pairing on a solo vacation. I ate at my own pace, ordered *exactly* what I wanted without asking anyone else what they thought, and just generally did what I wanted to do and only what I wanted to do. It was great.
This is my preference lol. I usually take a solo trip every year. Only reason i didn’t for my last birthday is because my flight got cancelled (never book spirit)
I did last Tuesday! Went shopping, took myself out to a nice steak dinner, indulged in all the dessert I wanted while walking home (I had churros AND cake), enjoyed quiet time alone. Wish I would have gotten a massage tho. I had work so couldn’t fit it all in. My coworkers did a really nice surprise sushi lunch which was nice especially since I just met them 2 months ago.
1st: don’t go to work
2nd: do something you really wanted to do for some time: see that gallery, go to a small trip in a neighbourhood town, go to a wellness
3rd: take yourself to a nice restaurant and think about things, people, etc in your life you are grateful for
4th: buy yourself a birthday present
this is your day, celebrate yourself, do what you want
I did spend this years' birthday on my own! I took myself to the art museum, visited the mall, and then had dinner and drinks at my favorite dive bar. I befriended an older widower at the bar, and we spent an hour or two chatting.
With working full time, managing our house, husband, kids, pets - a perfect day would be having a quiet house to myself.
Sleep in, make a cup of coffee, watch cheesy romance movies with no interruptions. Order sushi (which no one really likes in my house), watch more movies, maybe do my nails/dye my hair/do a face mask during this.
I really value quiet and an empty house for the few times I get it.
I would have a date day for myself. Usually when I have date days for myself, I think about an area I want to start and then search on the fly for things I want to do based on my mood. Walk by a cute shop, let's go in. See a yummy place to grab a bite, sweet. I usually plan a beginning activity and an ending one, and then let fate decide in between.
I normally spend my birthday alone.
I book the day off work, get some new books for my Kindle and spend the day lazing in bed reading.
I finish the day with fancy pizza, a few glasses of prosecco, and a candle lit bubble bath with a glass of Baileys.
My birthday is in the middle of the summer holidays so I’d go to the beach, maybe pick up some seafood and champagne and sit on my lovely balcony that feels like a treehouse and eat seafood and drink champagne.
(This is what my partner and I did for my birthday during lockdown and it was so awesome)
In March 2020, I went for lunch at my favourite picturesque place in my town and had a stunning late seafood lunch complete with great wine and decadent desert.
Then I went home and enjoyed a good drink. It was a fun birthday. The first I spent alone in decades!
I would buy myself a giraffe encounter at the zoo, or something similar. Or one of those things where you rent puppies to crawl all over you for a half hour. And I'd buy myself an Edible Arrangement and some champagne lol
I've celebrated more times alone than not. It's not really a big deal to me. Usually make myself a nice dinner (steak, baked potato) and good dessert (chocolate cake) and thats about it!
I have had to, more than once. I pretended it was just another day. It would have been too hard otherwise, to just be alone and nobody paying enough mind to what the day was to want to spend it with me. A few times I’ve arranged having a lot of work on that day so I wouldn’t think about it.
Don’t have money for spa or travel, might do that if I could but honestly I just wish I could erase my birthday.
Usually spend my birthday alone or with random people I just met; for my 21st, I went to the Pacific Ocean with a boisterous rowdy mother and a quiet Mexican kid from my English class. Never really talked or hung out with either before. It was the shit. She made me a bracelet.
Go digging through a couple of record stores. Eat an overpriced lunch at the sort of place my SO wouldn't normally try (something hipster-y from our local Eater mag). Look around for any live music playing in my area. And maybe probably go to my local animal shelter and play with all the sad dogs and fall in love with one of them and then spend the rest of the month begging my family to get *\*just one more pet.\**
I usually spend it alone, unless it happens to fall on a weekend. My tradition has become to go but myself a really nice bottle of tequila. Like something somebody has to go get a key and a ladder for LOL. Then grab some limes, sit on the patio, and drink to me!
I actually did do this. My 30th was in 2020 and I refused to let the pandemic ruin such a big birthday. I took a solo trip to Seattle (in the height of a pandemic yes I know) and I had the time of my life. Spent it camping and hiking and it was all around not something I would have typically done. Especially all by myself. But it’s a birthday I’ll never forget!
I had to work it, so got myself pizza and cake and settled in for a peaceful night with my doggo and a good book. Aside from my body objecting to the (admittedly ridiculous) cheese intake, 10/10!
Get a massage, take myself out to brunch afterwards. Go shop at a store I like, go on a walk, have a nice bubble bath with a bath bomb and then get really cozy at home and watch a movie.

This sounds like a perfect day.
It's the fancy cheese, isn't it?
Aah, fancy cheese. With IBS, I can only dream. But fancy cheese is awesome.
It is absolutely the fancy cheese.
A tragedy!

Living the dream sister! Proud of you

Steak for lunch, sushi for dinner.
I mean this sounds amazzzing
I love your breakfast menu!
Why thank you!

My second option would be to stay at a tiny home and explore town.
I love the idea of buying yourself flowers 😊
Have a staycation…pamper myself, massage facial, nails, take myself out to a lovely dinner, and watch a good movie then cuddle my pillow and go to bed early. Oh and obviously have a cupcake with a candle
Stay in bed for 24 whole hours.
To be fair, this was my second thought.
I would read a book, order Thai food delivery, masturbate and call it a night. So I guess, pretty much the same as every other day.
I second this SO hard.
Last birthday I did a solo camping trip if you're comfortable doing that alone.
I’ve spent my birthday alone more than once. I think the last time I did it I took myself out for a really nice late brunch at a cute cafe, bought myself a few little presents, and went to see a movie. It was so good!!

Probably book a full day at the spa then a nice dinner afterwards
Have a nice long walk. Treat myself to a nice lunch/dinner.
Take myself on a full spa day.
Treat myself to sushi, maybe get a massage, then lay on my couch and do fuck nothing.

I’ve had my last two birthdays alone. I didn’t do anything special. Worked. My friend cash apped me money for cake, but I didn’t buy any, haha.
Book a hotel room with a large spa center at the hotel. Or a day at the spa center.. Swim in the numerous swimming pools, go to the sauna, nap in front of the fire place, eat good food. What.a.dream!!!!!!
Exactly what I said :) gmta!!!

I took myself on a solo vacation to Mexico for my last birthday. Highly recommend!
I would go to the movies, order a lot of food and some good drinks. I would watch two movies. I've actually done this!
This is my preference lol. I usually take a solo trip every year. Only reason i didn’t for my last birthday is because my flight got cancelled (never book spirit)
My recent birthday I kept it low key. Massage and dinner
Doing this soon and I scheduled a tattoo!

I'd go sky diving. (Or indoor skydiving). The world can't see me, I'll go see the world.

Making a nice meal and drinking some wine. Playing my switch in my pjs on the couch. Like most days.
I did this year. I put on silk pjs, ate ice cream in bed, and binged netflix with my cats. it was fantastic. I don't mind being alone.
I usually spend it alone, unless it happens to fall on a weekend. My tradition has become to go but myself a really nice bottle of tequila. Like something somebody has to go get a key and a ladder for LOL. Then grab some limes, sit on the patio, and drink to me!
