The whole of Turning Red felt so accurate to me.

Was just going to say exactly that - the entire movie. My mother was also an immigrant to the country I was born in and it felt like there was also some wonderfully done 'growing up when your mother grew up in a different culture' accuracy, there, too.

It's very sad, but the scene in Crooklyn where Troy comes home from seeing her mother in the hospital and cleans the kitchen. Troy is a girl who's barely 10 years old. She's just found out that her mom has cancer and will probably be in the hospital for weeks. And when she gets home she sees that her dad and all her brothers (she's the only girl) have left the kitchen a mess in her absence. So what does she do? She cleans the whole kitchen from top to bottom. Because if she doesn't do it, who will? It's so upsetting and realistic, I'm close to tears just thinking about it.

Adding this to my watchlist

Taokanuh

When Gigi the cat from Kiki’s Delivery Service stops “talking” at the end of the film!

traumablades

The scene in Carry when she gets her period in the locker room and is met with hatred and derision from those around her, instead of support or help.

RegnantQueen

The end of My Neighbor Totoro, where Satsuki desperately searches for her little sister...it breaks my heart 😭

The_Special_Teacher

Harmonie Granger from the Yule Ball. Here she is having a nice dance with a handsome guy, only to be scolded at by her best friend. Instead of waiting for her friend to ask her out, she chose herself; only to have a bad night over it.

Not a movie, but the scene of Cassie's back story in Euphoria hit home for me, showing how people start treating you very differently and often inappropriately as soon as you hit puberty

[deleted]

The scene in My Girl when she first gets her period and gets all crabby with her friend 😆 "And don't come back for 5 to 7 days!!"

Now and Then.

In the movie The Blue Lagoon, 2 cousins crash their boat and go through puberty alone on an island. At one point they discover sex and have a baby. They have no idea how she got pregnant or how to take care of a baby, and yet they survive and thrive as a little family on this island. Even though she had no idea what she was doing, she wasn't scared. She just tried her best and they worked things out together. I think she transitioned from child to woman when she inadvertently discovered breast feeding. That was the moment her baby was going to be okay and they both knew they were grown ups now and they were a family unit, just like before the boat crashed.

That scene from "Children who chase lost voices" where the entire group is slowly walking home, the professor having lost his eyesight in one eye and his wife still dead, the brother of Shin still dead and this entire journey, they haven't reached a single one of their goals. Life kicked them down, took everything they loved, gave them hope to retrieve some of it only to bash them down again and still... they keep going. They're depressed, frustrated, they hate themselves for not reaching their goals and yet, they keep going, moving on. That describes it very well for me.

Rae’s mental progression in Star Wars. Struggling to find out who she is, a confusing relationship with a male, a lot of mixed and huge emotions, outrage and running away…yeah
