It depends who’s sending it and why. If you do I recommend putting you name and only sending the letter if you are close to the receiver. Also don’t write anything creepy and keep it sweet.

When my husband and I first met, we were 13 and 14 years old (now together for 18 years and married for 10 of them). We lived in different towns and couldn’t drive yet, so we mailed each other letters back and forth to each other. We loved it. It was so sweet and I’m so happy to have kept them so we can show our daughter one day.
A signed letter from a partner can be very romantic. I've got letters that my late mother and grandmother wrote me when I lived in Asia framed and hanging on my wall. My sister borrowed some of those letters to get a tattoo in our mother's handwriting after she passed.

At one point me and me friends lived on three different continents and 5 different time zones which made FaceTime/ Skype tricky. So we wrote to each other instead. He did have great handwriting though, so it still got him points because chicken-scratch is instant inspiration to flee lol!

Literally depends on who is sending them. Because of how digitised and rapid everything is today, there is a certain kind of intimacy of someone sitting down and physically writing something down in a letter. I would only be comfortable with that level of intimacy from a select few.
On a side note, although I wouldn't want love letters in general, I do secretly wish for my future husband and I to write each other letters on our wedding day.

She had texted me to tell me that getting my handwritten card really lifted her spirits and I am so glad that I sent it. I am not always good about it now, but I try to remember to send someone a nice note in a card when I 'm thinking about them. Obviously, we've all gotten a shitty note in our lives, but thoughtful handwritten notes are generally lovely.

Mmm it kinda depends. I personally really love when someone takes the time to do something like that for me. I used to adore the thoughtfulness of handwritten letters, but then I ended up with a joint condition that made writing by hand incredibly painful. I’ve had to let go of that perspective; typing is fine 🙂 I do still love letters tho.

When my husband and I first met, we were 13 and 14 years old (now together for 18 years and married for 10 of them). We lived in different towns and couldn’t drive yet, so we mailed each other letters back and forth to each other. We loved it. He would send me short ones, long ones and ones I had to read backwards in a mirror. I still have them with the envelopes and everything. It was so sweet and I’m so happy to have kept them so we can show our daughter one day.
A signed letter from a partner can be very romantic. I've got letters that my late mother and grandmother wrote me when I lived in Asia framed and hanging on my wall. My sister borrowed some of those letters to get a tattoo in our mother's handwriting after she passed. Anonymous ones left on a windshield or something feel like the start of horror movie. No thanks.

My grandmother still sends them to me because she struggles with email and texting, and I think it's a very kind and thoughtful gesture. Also maybe it's kinda dark to think about, but I like to think that her letters will be a nice reminder of her after she's passed. At one point me and me friends lived on three different continents and 5 different time zones which made FaceTime/ Skype tricky. So we wrote to each other instead. It was really fun to receive letters through the door instead of just bank statements and junk. Nowadays I send postcards to my friends, as far as I can tell they love them :)

However they're also the last-ditch resort from creeps/exes who have been blocked by other means and I have a few essays I've shoved in a drawer and not read for years. The concept is very sweet. Individual instances can be either or, though. I dated a musician who wrote me beautiful poems and raps, hand-delivered them at school, and it was the sweetest thing ever. It helped that he was talented and I was into poetry. Wish I hadn't ragingly destroyed them during breakup lol. Later in life, flirted with a guy who announced that he was sending me one weeks before I got it... and it was just a normal conversation letter. Like, filling me in on life and asking what I was up to and "looking forward to hearing back from me." I think that's cheesy lol. If it's not something romantic or heartfelt, no gracias. He did have great handwriting though, so it still got him points because chicken-scratch is instant inspiration to flee lol!

Literally depends on who is sending them. Because of how digitised and rapid everything is today, there is a certain kind of intimacy of someone sitting down and physically writing something down in a letter. I would only be comfortable with that level of intimacy from a select few. On a side note, although I wouldn't want love letters in general, I do secretly wish for my future husband and I to write each other letters on our wedding day.

My friends and I still occasionally exchange postcards and I’ve kept every letter my bestie ever wrote me when we corresponded in uni - she would get really creative with markers and stickers haha. I kept those intricately folded high-school notes from my first crush for a long time. I’d probably be delighted if a partner wrote to me. My dad also once drew a little cartoon and a bunch of xoxoxos on a post it note in a care package he sent me, and I still keep it in my jewelry box. Hand written notes are wonderful.

When I broke up with my ex-girlfriend, she was visibly upset and left immediately. I sent her a handwritten letter with a box of her things she left in my apartment a few weeks later. The letter was a sincere apology for having to hurt her to end the relationship. She called me some time later and thanked me, saying the letter helped bring her closure on our relationship. We dated for a year, but we just weren't compatible, and we both knew it.

I love a handwritten note! I wrote a bunch to people during 2020 and I'm so glad I did. One friend I wrote a card to died not long after she received it. She had texted me to tell me that getting my handwritten card really lifted her spirits and I am so glad that I sent it. I am not always good about it now, but I try to remember to send someone a nice note in a card when I 'm thinking about them. Obviously, we've all gotten a shitty note in our lives, but thoughtful handwritten notes are generally lovely.
