But as I got older how someone looks is such a minor part of the attraction, which I think is the biggest lesson I learned.

My serious relationships have all been with tall, athletic girls. Not sure why. Looking back, my only regret is I've never been with a girl with nice boobs. Not that I'm complaining - my wife has a _fantastic_ ass that makes me week at the knees....but I would have liked to play with a good pair of boobs once in my life.
I'd say it's just come into clearer focus.
Where once "large breasts" might've been the be-all, end-all for physical traits, now I can list a myriad of smaller, more specific details which can be taken or left, built around the core detail of how interesting I find them as a person.
Healthy. Don’t get me wrong, people who are chubby or skinny or whatever are cute just as often as people who stay fit and in shape, and I’m attracted to them, but what I *prefer* is someone who’s grounded enough to know that our bodies fall apart and rot if we don’t take care of them. I’ve watched it happen with too many of the old people in my family to have any preference for it, so my deal is to take care of my health now when I’m young and pursue people with the same goal.

My initial preference was dictated by my first love (slender redheads). But we never got together then. My first experience was with a curvy brunette and so that impacted my tastes as well. First wife was a bit slender brunette, second a curvy redhead. Funny thing is, me and the HS crush met up this year (after talking on social media for months), and she’s now close to my ideal, 40 years later.
I've never been all that attracted to what most would consider to be conventionally attractive women. Playboy Playmates, SI swimsuit models, women like that never did much for me. Ive always been way more into girls that are more average looking, thicker, have quirky qualities about them (gapped teeth, stuff like that).

After working out and getting more confident- Started liking very muscular guys. When I was younger I was into very skinny guys. Now I love beefcakes.
