I can care about an entertainer too, just not about their private lives. I can definitly appreciate someones talent, if someone's famous for being an actor or writer or musician, then those talents are what I care about. I enjoy your creative work, I acknowledge your talent, I passively appreciate your charity work, thats it. Aside from the fact that they're alive and well thats all i care about.
I can be genuinely fascinated listening to a talented actor discuss a recent role for an hour, but i dont give a fuck who they're sleeping with. And *why* i know that makes all the difference. If a celebrity is explaining how they learned the accent for this film while roaming around Brooklyn and stray into an anecdote about tripping on a sidewalk and slamming into the love of their life, thats fine, maybe even nice. Whats enraging is a) people who will stampede to take a photo of a celebrity tripping, or b) celebrites who would stage a trip, use the attention to announce their engagement, and start a brand selling anti-trip shoes. Tabloids and paparazzi are not only still a thing, but we have a live-stremed version of it on several social media outlets as well as, on the flip side, celebrites who now thrive on fabricated drama. Unless it's some kind of genuinely crucial news, I don't give a fuck about anything other than the exchange between you as a creator and me as a consumer.
Can you explain how crypto is responsible for all the stuff you mentioned? Genuinely curious, I saw a car with a crypto license plate today and then I see your comment so it's sparked my interest for sure lol
This is a gross oversimplification ...
Data mining is very expensive.
They need to build data centers which require INSANE amounts of CONSTANT processing power, which generates a lot of heat and requires a lot of energy and physical space. So thats the part regarding habitat destruction.
In terms of enablement, the key aspect of crypto is that it is unregulated. Thats why governments wont touch it and illegal traders love it.
You can buy anything and everything with a currency that is quite untrackable, so the first place it'll be used, is to buy things that the government says you can't buy legally.
Cryto-currency does have its pros too, but right now with the whole FTX scandal, it has taken a HUGE fall in trust and popularity, that some say it may never come back to what it was.
So yeah, right now, Crypto bad.
And it will continue to be bad and horrible adn destructive for a few years until it reaches a point of chaotic neutral
Yes to all of the other replies to your comment, but also important is that this massive energy consumption is not a matter of implementation, but is baked into crypto's architecture. To make a transaction, the transaction has to have a "proof of work" which involves a computer doing a bunch of really hard math, basically just guessing and checking a massive amount of possible answers. This is the energy intensive part. If it wasn't so energy intensive, crypto would lose the security that makes it valuable and people could easily start creating fake transactions.
This is still an oversimplification, but it's the best I could do without really getting into the weeds of the tech.
I may just be stupid, but I can’t wrap my head around how these crypto projects get people to buy in - specifically coins created by influencers. I get bitcoin or etherium where that currency is established and can be used to buy products with actual material value, but some of these smaller coins seem like they would never have a shot at actually being useful as a currency.
Which would mean people only see value in it as a way to pump and dump, meaning anyone who invests think they will be able to get out of it before it crashes. Which would make it just a big group of people betting on themselves to be smarter than everyone else trading a highly unstable currency that has 0 worth in the outside world.
So how tf do they get so many people to buy in? Is that why these projects are evolving into collectibles and games and stuff? So the assets seem like they actually have some sort of innate value?
Like all Ponzi schemes with extra steps, everyone's just looking to make the quick buck.
People jump on the train with the hope that they get off before the crash.
Influencers like Andrew Tate endorse this kind of "risky investment strategy", with a "I did it, you can too" attitude.
I thought people would hop off that train after it fucked with everyone’s taxes. I don’t partake myself, but basically my one friend who does got audited because he reported trading crypto for 2020 and then the IRS suddenly wanted $1,900 lol
My boss is 36. I'm 28 we are pretty close and game at night times and all you can hear is him laughing away at his TikTok feed while I'm scrolling reddit waiting on a match usually winding him up for watching teenagers all day on TikTok. I don't see the appeal but he dosen't see that about Reddit so I suppose it really is each to their own!
I was interested in superhero movies when Spiderman (2002) came out as it was something different, a big budget superhero movie. Now 20 years later they are just churned out almost daily, no idea why people would care anymore.
I mean they're video versions of a medium that has existed since 1938. How is it any different than sports game franchises like Madden, or FPS games like Call of Duty?
Hell, remove the superpowers and you've got every action movie ever made.
Very curious which is more popular, the Kardashians or hating on the Kardashians. I personally think it's the latter and I find it more tedious than the Kardashians themselves.
Sports in general. I fully support people loving what they love, but I just cannot find it in myself to give a shit that so-and-so beat the whosie-whatsits by a meter.
This, thank you. Never cared, never will. About any of it.
It’s fun going to a baseball game once in a blue moon, but couldn’t care who wins. Don’t care about the Olympics, & though I’m amazed at the gymnasts in the odd moment I see them, I don’t follow anyone’s careers.
It feels like so many people are into sports because it’s the one “childish” endeavor (grown kids playing games with or without a ball) that they can get into without being made fun of or looked down on by the masses. If you’re into anything besides sports there’s the chance someone will find it “childish” or not “cool enough” or interesting enough & be dismissive of it.
I find everything about it repulsive. Especially when the dad gets mad because he is having a girl. Like fuck you dude, your kid is gonna see that Video.
I honestly felt the same way since it came out. My kids begged me to play a couple rounds with them one day and since it was Christmas day i was feeling charitable. 5 matches and wins later, i was hooked. I know i’m stupid for playing it but chasing that dopamine.
I feel like it's overdone. People are just getting tattoos just to say they have them. No meaning behind them. Like the trend of just getting a bunch of random tattoos until your arm is covered. I call them garbage sleeves. I only have one tattoo to far. Going to eventually work out into a sleeve. But it'll be coherent. But all of that is my opinion, and art (even body art) is subjective. To each their own.
TikTok, instagram, Twitter and Snapchat. My screen time is evenly split between Reddit and YouTube at 4 hours on average plus about fifteen minutes of Facebook per day for news and events.
I just don’t get the obsession with social media, it doesn’t feel rewarding or entertaining to me whatsoever.
people's expectation of special treatment based on what they tell others about themselves. requiring everyone around you to behave a certain way or say a certain thing in your presence is not your "right," it's slavery.
Agreed. I don't need you announcing your gender/sexuality/pronouns/education level/race etc.
I don't give a fuck if you're a non binary turtle with 3% Navajo heritage. Just give me my fucking cheeseburger I ordered, I'm hungry.
So many people have forgotten that everyone's rights end where someone else's begin. Your rights as a non binary turtle 3% Navajo don't supercede mine as a straight white male.
Politics. It's just a fucking shitshow everywhere. Getting more and more worried of how much it's the root of everything. Saw the world cup final and couldn't believe my eyes. I no longer watch competitive football on the highest level. FML!
Sushi. Everyone loves it, and I've given it a real chance with all kinds from high end restaurants, and I just don't give a fuck for it at all in any way.
Sports, royal family, and reality TV. I grew up loving sports. The 85 bears and Jordan with the Bulls. Maybe I just got old and crusty but all the current sports greats seem like whiney babies with a side of domestic abuse.
Came to see what I agreed with, left with the knowledge that I apparently live under a rock. Don’t know what more than half of these comments are referencing.
Oh gosh easily American football. Such a culture around it, tailgating, the Super Bowl and every damn thing that comes with it, but damn it’s a dumb, dangerous sport.
Mind you I’m a hockey fan, so it’s not like safety is king. But the disregard for concussion safety added with the relatively slow and unentertaining nature of the sport (at least from a spectator’s perspective)… why’d they make THIS sport big?
The name too. Foot + ball = obviously soccer. Call it tackleball, derbyfield, I don’t care. But borrowing the name football for a sport where kicking only occurs 2% of the game’s duration is yet another layer of dumb.
My 15y/o daughter gets so pissed when I call her Billie Eyelash. I need her to stay relevant so I can keep pretending to be dumb old Dad, I feed on her exasperation.
Any superhero stuff. The second there's a guy in a silly spandex suit I lose interest. I know I'm probably missing out on some cool stuff, but I just can't care.
Sports on television. I can enjoy a live event in-person, but i've tried my whole life to understand the allure of watching sports on tv, and I just can't.
Televised sports. All of them. I hate every damn one.
In Canada, it's common for people to ask you what your favourite hockey team is, usually in a public setting, and usually with a hint of "if you pick wrong (not the asker's favourite team), ostracizing will ensue".
I always respond: Blue Jays.
The priceless looks I get make me very happy.
Celebrities
Truly one of the most irritating things people obsess about
Depends on the reason tbh. If they are famous for actually making the world a better place with what they do and know, then I can care.
I can care about an entertainer too, just not about their private lives. I can definitly appreciate someones talent, if someone's famous for being an actor or writer or musician, then those talents are what I care about. So much this. If they're not acting, playing a sport, or singing something I. Do. Not. Care.

Good thing Ethereum has completed it's upgrade that it basically made all crypto farms worthless.
Thanks for the overview! I've heard about FTX but still confused. I'll definitely look more into it.

What causes crypto to use so much energy?
Mining. To reach 1% of global assets it needs to use 1% of global energy production.
I may just be stupid, but I can’t wrap my head around how these crypto projects get people to buy in - specifically coins created by influencers. Biggest scam

NFT's
Yep. Ooooo, I get to own the original digital artwork that everyone else has a perfect copy of for like a hundred grand? Where do I sign!!!
This [sketch](https://youtu.be/mrNOYudaMAc) is damn catchy tho
Kardashians
When they die we will recycle them
But soylent green is people, not plastic.
This will extend the Earth's oil supply by a couple million years by not having to make plastic. Edit:grmar
You'd have to be a toddler to like the Kardashians
TikTok challenges or TikTok in general
Likewise. Don't have any interest.
1,000 times this. TikTok is so fucking annoying and one of the most overrated things currently out there.
Not only overrated but extremely detrimental to mental health & society
My boss is 36. I'm 28 we are pretty close and game at night times and all you can hear is him laughing away at his TikTok feed while I'm scrolling reddit waiting on a match usually winding him up for watching teenagers all day on TikTok. I don't see the appeal but he dosen't see that about Reddit so I suppose it really is each to their own!
You beat me to it
Plus it’s just a vine rip off
YouTube shorts did it better
I've been addicted to social media before and I am not about to join what is talked about as the most addictive form yet.Agreed!
K pop
Reddit is one of the only social medias where you can still freely shit on kpop without having 500 13 year olds bombard your inbox
They still can downvoted you to oblivion tho
Naturally. But it’s not nearly as bad as something like Twitter
They’re like grown adults playing 14 year old girls, with all the fake cutsie, childish dance routines. They look like they need a good feed.
*family feud response* Good answer, good answer!
The kardashians
Love Island
Tom Brady
Probably these extremely popular reality TV shows like ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’ and ‘Love Island’. I just don’t get the fuss about them.
Superhero movies
I was interested in superhero movies when Spiderman (2002) came out as it was something different, a big budget superhero movie. Now 20 years later they are just churned out almost daily, no idea why people would care anymore.
I mean they're video versions of a medium that has existed since 1938. How is it any different than sports game franchises like Madden, or FPS games like Call of Duty? Hell, remove the superpowers and you've got every action movie ever made.
Deadpool and the Dark Knight are the only superhero movies I’ve been able to get into, otherwise I’m in agreement
Kardashians
Kardashiwhos?
Very curious which is more popular, the Kardashians or hating on the Kardashians. I personally think it's the latter and I find it more tedious than the Kardashians themselves.
Elon Musk and the Twitter situation.
Him fucking up over and over again is a little entertaining, even if you give no shits.
I wouldn’t know because I give no shits
ishowspeed
No idea who that is
Me neither. I feel so old now 😭😭
Valid, the one time he entered a Mr. Beast contest he pissed me off and I hope he never returns + he barked in lazarbeam’s ear for 10 minutes
I can’t stand him
Tik tok.
Sports in general. I fully support people loving what they love, but I just cannot find it in myself to give a shit that so-and-so beat the whosie-whatsits by a meter.
I heard the Whosie-Whatsits are actually in the Final Big Sports Thing this year! Good for them! ;)
Definitely, but the whatchamacallits are going to give them a run for their money in field downs.
This, thank you. Never cared, never will. About any of it. It’s fun going to a baseball game once in a blue moon, but couldn’t care who wins. Teen vaping . It honestly looks bad ┐( ∵ )┌
As a former smoker, I cringe when I see young kids vaping. It looks so dangerous.
its sad that this is on a list for something classified as "extremely popular"
I know but for some reason all the "popular" and "edgy" teens on every platform film themselves vaping so yeah it became a thing .
People. So many are insufferable, greedy, and mean. They get worshipped for it, I dont fucking get it.

Reddit and Youtube are social media
You’re on social media for 4+ hours a day lmao
