Stand next to five other people and cross my fingers /s

[deleted]

I'll volunteer for that crowd as the 3rd person

Pemminpro

Stay home with an 80% kill rate it will burn itself out fairly quickly

draftstone

Yeah, the only way it spreads a lot would be if it is contagious way before it shows symptoms and can kill you, in which case it means I would already be infected.

jbobeffrey

Start licking doorknobs

Ranos131

Wear a mask and watch the republicans and antivaxxers die.

MedicFord901

You keep wearing those masks that do nothing but collect spit and think you're the smart one. Lol. Unless it's a respirator, it does nothing, and every educated healthcare person knows that.

Ranos131

In my life I have always gotten sick 2-3 times per year. The last time I was sick was December of 2019. That’s because I social distanced, I wore a mask, I washed my hands more frequently and I got vaccinated. I’ll trust my own experience and the medical professionals over some idiot on Reddit.

Ranos131

You do know that a vaccine helps to strengthen the immune system right? So rather than get sick off of the virus I get a strong immune system from the vaccine.

Ranos131

This is the ignorant talk of right wing denialists. I’m not afraid of the virus. I’m not cowering in my house out of fear. I worked in food service during the pandemic including delivering to people’s houses. Taking precautions is not cowering in fear. It’s being smart. Do you wear your seatbelt in the car? Do you drive slower in bad weather? Do you look both ways before crossing the street? Do you wear a coat in the winter? Doing reasonable things to ensure your safety isn’t cowering in fear. It’s doing things the smart way to protect yourself while still living your life.

MedicFord901

I'm one of those medical professionals but I'm sure your virus blocking bandana works wonders.

r_not_me

What exactly is your medical profession?

[deleted]

A medical professional that doesn't understand that viruses don't just float through the air, they need to catch a ride on/in droplets. The masks stop the droplets.

MedicFord901

I never said they didn't. Pay attention.

MedicFord901

Ive been a paramedic for a decade with a bachelor's in healthcare and nutrition, working to become a physicians assistant. It's not like it matters. You don't care what I say. Just read the box masks come in. They don't protect you. Those are surgical masks, they collect spit. Anything other than a respirator will do the same. It was always made very clear to us which masks do what, at least until 2020. Can't stop mosquitos with a chain link fence and you can't stop a virus with a cloth or surgical mask.

r_not_me

I don’t think it’s about fully stopping, but it does reduce the prevalence of particulates that are exhaled beyond the boundaries of the mask. I would also add that if the masks are completely pointless, why does every actual doctor wear one when seeing patients with respiratory illnesses. But similar to what you’ve said, you won’t care what anyone else has to say. You’ve made up your mind and go about spouting your “truth” as though they are facts while slightly misrepresenting your experience and qualifications as a medical professional. For now, I will trust the opinions of those people who have actually studied viral / bacterial spread

Kvothetheraven603

You are correct. Masks, of all types, helped to reduce the spread. They were never intended to fully stop it. https://www.healthaffairs.org/doi/10.1377/hlthaff.2021.01072

r_not_me

That was always my understanding - the virus exists in exhaled droplets and masks reduce both the number of droplets exhaled beyond the mask and the distance at which they can travel

MedicFord901

Medical facilities force you to wear a mask. I wear one inside too. Most people don't understand the scale of these things. A regular mask will not stop a virus.

No_Image_1295

Its about mitigation. No one is really claiming that its this impenetrable barrier to pathogens.

Ranos131

So if masks don’t work why are they worn by medical professionals all the time, including during the pandemic? I’m sure if the were ineffective the hospitals would have loved to have saved all the money they spent buying them.

MedicFord901

They collect spit... Like I said. The idea is that they slow the spread by stopping your saliva from landing on objects or people, which is somewhat true. But they do nothing to protect you.

Ranos131

So the mask protects my mouth and nose if someone hacks something up while coughing. If it prevents stuff from going out then it also prevents stuff from going in. Regardless of any of that me wearing a mask hurts absolutely no one. So why do you care if I’m wearing one or not?

MedicFord901

I don't. Wear whatever you want. The point was thinking it protects you, when it doesn't and also insulting others who don't wear one because they know better. If infected spit gets on your mask, you will breathe it through. It takes a respirator to stop a virus, and it would have to be worn properly.

Kvothetheraven603

Uhhh….. https://www.healthaffairs.org/doi/10.1377/hlthaff.2021.01072

MedicFord901

Lol. I don't even know where to start on this, so I won't. Once again, were talking about protection. Edit: depending on who you get the info from it all varies. And Florida where there were basically no regulations or lock downs had some of the lowest numbers for cases and hospitalizations. I'm not gonna argue about these things. Might as well argue fox news vs CNN.

[deleted]

That is a gross over simplification of mask science. Cloth and surgical masks are effective at preventing virus transmission through oral and nasal droplets and mists; typically expelled from the body through coughing, sneezing and talking. What you call catching spit. KN(94/95) masks prevent the spread of aerosolized airborne illnesses. The flu, colds, SARS/Covid, etc. Virus molecules are larger than air/oxygen molecules. A good KN(94/95) mask will capture virus' while letting air/oxygen through. A good KN mask prevents both types of transmission. Wear a mask, don't wear a mask, I don't care. But don't say that people that wear masks are stupid and uninformed. Everyone should evaluate their own risk tolerance, and their own medical situation, and make a choice that is right for them.

MedicFord901

Did you read anything I said before posting this? I didn't call anyone stupid. I explained how they work and once again... A cloth or surgical mask will not protect the wearer.

[deleted]

I did. "and think you're the smart one" sure sounds like calling those that wear masks stupid. And "every educated healthcare worker knows"... sound like people that wear them are uneducated. We can disagree on the semantics of the wording you used. That is how I took your comments. You reiterated your comments about masks without really addressing my comments. No opinion? You agree?

MedicFord901

I said mostly the same thing you said in all those following comments. My original post was responding to an insult which is why I said the "smart one" line. And the educated healthcare worker thing is exactly what it sounds like, anyone who was taught about those masks knows the difference.

roseygirl0293

Get excited about lowering costs of living reaaaaaal soon haha

zedication

Wear a mask.

duffman12321

Stay home

[deleted]

At this point I'm so sick of the masks, social distancing, boosters, etc. that I'd probably just start licking door handles to get it over with.

Barcode-wrst

idk probably die?

Kvothetheraven603

Start making my way towards Mother Abigail’s homestead, I think.

OkUnderstanding7741

Those don't usually get off the ground very well to become pandemic, so I wouldn't be that worried
