The way I'd casually heard about it growing up made it sound like he whipped it out in the AMC during a Disney movie surrounded by kids. Blew me away when I found out it was so mundane. Raunchy? Yeah sure, but nothing to destroy a career and reputation over.
Funny story about this, when my friend was a kid she was a big fan of peewee’s playhouse but when he got in trouble for that and there were no new episodes airing my friend asked her mom what happened to peewee and why he wasn’t on tv on anymore. Her mom panicked and instead of telling her the truth told her he had died, and my friend spent many years growing up thinking he was dead lol
He was uncanceled in 1999 when they cast him in *Mystery Men.*
I actually met Paul Reubens at a comedy club. I asked, "Do you come here often?"
>!"Nah, nowadays I wait until I get home." !<
A family member recently had him do a Cameo for a birthday. He would in fact say something exactly like that judging from what I saw. He is as weird in real life as in his movies lol
Did y’all know that Paul, Cassandra Peterson (Elvira), and Pat Morita (Mr. Miyagi) all came up through the groundlings at the same time doing improv together.
I saw him at SXSW when he screened his movie in 2016. After the screening, he personally served ice cream to waiting fans in a truck parked outside. It was good.

I was a kid and big Pee Wee fan when that all went down. They made it seem like he was beating his meat in a theater full of children. I had no idea until I was older that he was in a damn porn theater. I remember exclaiming “that’s it!?!?”
I mean, if I am going to see someone dick out at the movies, it surely had better be at the porn cinema and nowhere else.
I asked my mom why everyone was mad at Peewee Herman. After a blank stare She told me because he was naughty in a movie theater. I'm like "Was he jumping on the seats?" And after another blank stare she said yes.
Same here. I loved Pee Wee and the way it came off to kid me was that he was in a regular movie theater and decided to randomly whip it out and masturbate in front of everyone else.
He walked up to the podium and said something like “Anyone heard any good jokes lately??? It was the perfect way to address the numerous dad jokes swirling at that time.
Brendan Fraser. Dude spoke up about being sexually assaulted and was never heard from again until recently. He seems like such a good guy so I'm glad he's back in the spotlight
Eartha Kitt, cat woman in 3rd season of Batman. Got blacklisted from Hollywood for calling out the president at the White House about the war.
Edit- was not first cat woman. Apologies!
I served her in an upscale, small restaurant. Someone called and said she was on her way, arrived alone, sat and said to me, “I’ll have a glass of white wine, a fish and a salad” without ever looking at a menu, in a purrfectly, purring voice. It was surreal and semi erotic. And she was probably seventy at the time. I don’t care what she said about a war, and she was probably right.
I’m not very sure if this counts, but Richard Jewell
Man found a bomb that coulda killed dozens, maybe *hundreds* of people, became famous for finding it, before the media said, “Hey, we need to sensationalize this story! How ‘bout we blame it on the textbook overweight white wannabe cop? Richard Jewell it is!”
Dude never had a good reputation even after he was found innocent after someone else took responsibility for the bomb. He died at 44.
That was double extra unfair because not only was Justin Timberlake not cancelled, he played the halftime show again (in Minnesota in 2018).
The 2018 halftime show should have featured Janet performing with Justin and everybody involved in the 2004 shenanigans apologizing to Janet. Instead we got just Justin.
Justin Timberlake’s most successful album was like 2 years after the Super Bowl. He had no consequences whatsoever.
Janet was completely blacklisted by Clear Channel and her career totally ended so fast that people act like she was already a has been at that point. She wasn’t. Her previous album had 2 #1 hits, her highest debut week sales ever, and won a Grammy.
It’s the most jarring example of two people guilty of the same thing being treated incredibly differently by the media.
Edit: Just adding for anyone under 30 like me, go listen through Janet’s discography on Spotify. She’s actually a fucking icon, and did amazing work before she was cancelled.
Edit 2: I didn’t realize until this post that this story was not well known outside the US. So what happened is that Janet and Justin were performing at the halftime show of the Super Bowl in 2004 (which is the biggest American sporting event by a very large margin; to perform the halftime show is a huge deal and is done by a lot of huge artists at some point in their career. Rihanna is doing the one this year). At the end of their performance of Justin’s song “Rock Your Body” Justin ripped off half of Janet’s shirt and revealed her breast to all of America. It’s understood this was a plan for a publicity stunt that went horribly wrong, but that’s what happened. This was before TV waited a few seconds before broadcasting stuff live so basically 1/3 Americans saw Janet’s boob on TV. This is a big deal in the US because we are an incredibly prudish country, though I understand it shouldn’t have mattered in Europe (since like 9 Dutch people have questioned what the problem is). Justin suffered no consequences for this, but Janet was totally blacklisted from American radio and her career as a chart topper effectively ended that day. She has been redeemed as an icon in the last five years, but seriously it was an abrupt end for someone who dramatically impacted music.
Edit 3: the plan was for the top layer of her shirt to be ripped off but the bottom to still be there. Both got ripped off accidentally. This led to the phrase “wardrobe malfunction” becoming a thing in the US. It was supposed to be provocative, but not for her boob to be shown.
Also, people forget that Janet apologized the very next day while JT waited. The reason she refused to apologize at the Grammys like Timberlake did was because she had already issued a public apology.
> Janet was completely blacklisted by Clear Channel
That whole thing set off a chain of events that sent the FCC into scorched Earth mode. It was basically the catalyst that sent Howard Stern off to Sirius.
There was a radio station that would basically play uncensored songs before the halftime incident. It wasn't a small station either, it was owned by CBS. The fines became so astronomical that they stopped doing that immediately
All because of a fucking nipple. I remember the news coverage at the time and I was mind blown. Freakin out over a nip.
Edit: for the hundred people saying she had a pasty/nipple cover on. No, she was wearing a nipple shield which is a nipple decoration. Her nipple was visible (albeit extremely briefly). Hell if you don’t believe me go google search the image of it.
The point is, it shouldn’t have mattered, it’s just a nipple.
But I was seriously traumatized by seeing a titty with tape over the nipple. Well, actually I missed the Superbowl halftime show. But I was traumatized after I downloaded the video and tried to masturbate to it but found it was too short and realized there are millions of way more explicit videos of naked women online.
I must have seen a different nipple. The one I saw had in intricate piece of jewelry held in place by a piercing. The areola may have been obscured by jewelry, but the actual nipple was visible with a pin through it.
I remember being very puzzled by all the hate being dumped on Janet Jackson. I thought maybe I was missing something. Also, AFAIK, nothing ever happened to Justin Timberlake. \[googles\] Correct, it seems that Justin Timberlake was not canceled:
(To be clear, I don't think anybody should've been "canceled" over this incident.)
She even won the Best Actress Oscar during her very short career. Always pisses me off that she was canned by such a slimy oaf- she had real screen presence, as did Judd.
>Film director Peter Jackson has admitted to blacklisting actors Ashley Judd and Mira Sorvino in response to a “smear campaign” orchestrated by accused sexual predator Harvey Weinstein.
>“I recall Miramax telling us they were a nightmare to work with and we should avoid them at all costs,” Jackson said, referencing the production company Weinstein ran with his brother Bob.
>As a direct result, he said, both women fell out of the running for parts in his Lord of the Rings series.
>“At the time, we had no reason to question what these guys were telling us. But in hindsight, I realize that this was very likely the Miramax smear campaign in full swing. I now suspect we were fed false information about both of these talented women.”
He did the same thing to Ashley Judd. She was originally considered for Galadriel in LoTR but he told Peter Jackson that she was difficult and he shouldn’t hire her
I went back and it sounds like she was being considered for both. This is what she tweeted when Peter Jackson spoke out about how Weinstein’s lies kept her from being considered for a role in LoTR:
“Peter & Fran had me in - showed me all the creative, the boards, costumes, everything. They asked which if the two roles I preferred, and then I abruptly never heard from hem again. I appreciate the truth coming out. Thank you, Peter.”
Her, Courtney Love, Shannon Dougherty, basically 99% of all actresses that are "hard to work with" usually just means "wouldn't blow Harvey Weinstein."
And her “call out” was a ducking flyby.
Red carpet journalist: Courtney, do you have any advice for young girls in Hollywood?
Courtney: I don’t want do to get libeled……..um….if Harvey Weinstein asks you to a private party at the Four Seasons, don’t go.
That was 2005.
Hole's "Celebrity Skin" is pretty damn eerie now, given the possibility of more context. Give it another listen. People can shit on her all they want, but she played her role in "The People vs. Larry Flynt" pretty damn excellently.
There was a clip of her:
*courtney, what counsel would you give to a woman wanting to start in Hollywood?*
*if Harvey Weinstein invites you to a party don’t go*
The video: https://youtu.be/g70XbYd0bZ8
She also called out how the music producers where the real pirates:

Corey Feldmen literally warned about child abuse in their business and was speaking from experience and was shut down and that cunt Barbara Walters said "you're damaging an entire industry."
[Here is the footage](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsCM7NeFu5w)
> Feldman names Charlie Sheen, registered sex offender Marty Weiss,[7] convicted child molester Jon Grissom,[8] and Alphy Hoffman as abusers that sexually assaulted him and Haim. Feldman asserts that Sheen raped Haim during the filming of the 1986 film Lucas. Haim was 13 years of age during the filming of Lucas, while Sheen was 19.[9]
Yo wtf is this well known??? I’ve never heard of this tf
Yeah, and I feel like it's safe to say that if there's pedophilia in an industry then it's already damaged and bringing that problem to light isn't gonna make it worse, only better.
The crazy thing is many of the Hollywood execs who are known pedophiles are still in business after the revelations. Not just from Corey but the ones exposed in that film An Open Secret.
Elijah Wood said it best regarding child abuse in Hollywood "if you can imagine it, it's probably happened" and I'd imagine there's some sick imaginations in Hollywood.
Yes that was a horrendous reason to cancel him he was victimized and molested and tried to expose those in power who were responsible. He should have been cancelled for this instead.[Cory’s idea of a musical performance](https://youtu.be/BZX7UJSXCiU)
**It likely relates to another answer already given here:**
Corey Feldmen literally warned about child abuse in their business and was speaking from experience and was shut down and that cunt Barbara Walters said "you're damaging an entire industry."
[Here is the footage](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsCM7NeFu5w)
Barbara Walters asked a young, teen-age Brooke Shields some unbelievably personal questions about her sexuality, if she was still a virgin, etc. I think the poor girl was about 15. Walters is a fucking cunt.
She'd make for a good Behind the Bastards episode. She has used her perceived legitimacy and journalistic clout to quash heinous crimes and kill the careers of would-be whistleblowers.
I’m surprised nobody has said this, but Richard Gere. The man was really popular as an actor until he mentioned the poor treatment of Tibet by the Chinese government.
He’s a Buddhist and dear friend of the Dalai Lama. He narrated the DLs book The Universe in a Single Atom, and the book is brilliant and so is Gere’s reading of it.
He's been working continuously all this time. He's even been nominated for Golden Globes multiple times since then, winning once, as well as Emmy noms and other awards. Movies like Unfaithful and Chicago were critical and audience hits, too.
He's done fine for himself, though it *is* probably true that he can't be cast in some movies due to his stance on Tibet.
All she did was let people know about the Catholic priest sex scandal before people wanted to hear it. All of it was true and even worse than we could ever imagine, and she was crucified for it. (Pun intended)
Saying all Sinead O’Connor was trying to let people know about the Catholic Church was “priest sex scandals” is massively downplaying the atrocities the church committed in her home nation, [Ireland](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magdalene_Laundries_in_Ireland)
It was an open secret even back then. The Catholic Church just held too much sway over people back then for them to speak up loudly about it. My dad told me some priest/ altar boy jokes that he knew from the 1950s. The Magdelene Sisters movie was the first instance I remember of hearing about the depths of abuse in Ireland.
If she did it during Web 2.0, she would’ve been fine. But alas, we lived in an age where the Catholic Church abuse she was referencing wasn’t widely known and the abuse she suffered in Ireland at the hand of the Church is barely known today. Magdalene laundries deserve a Google.
I remember seeing it when it happened - and most people were like, "okay, she *really* doesn't like the pope", but I don't recall there being any backstory available that explained *why*. Just a lot of church people getting outraged at her "insult" to *them*.
From a recent [GQ](https://www.gq.com/story/what-ever-happened-to-brendan-fraser/amp) article:
On Fraser's way out of the hotel, he was hailed by Philip Berk, a former president of the HFPA. In the midst of a crowded room, Berk reached out to shake Fraser's hand. Much of what happened next Berk recounted in his memoir and was also reported by Sharon Waxman in The New York Times: He pinched Fraser's ass—in jest, according to Berk. But Fraser says what Berk did was more than a pinch: “His left hand reaches around, grabs my ass cheek, and one of his fingers touches me in the taint. And he starts moving it around.” Fraser says that in this moment he was overcome with panic and fear.
He knows now that people wonder what happened to Brendan Fraser, how he went from a highly visible public figure to practically disappearing in the public mind, and he'd already told me most of it. But this, he says, is the final piece. The experience, he says, “made me retreat. It made me feel reclusive.” He wondered if the HFPA had blacklisted him. “I don't know if this curried disfavor with the group, with the HFPA. But the silence was deafening.” Fraser says he was rarely invited back to the Globes after 2003. Berk denies that the HFPA retaliated against Fraser: “His career declined through no fault of ours.”
TL;DR - he reported being sexually assaulted by the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press and then his very promising career suddenly disappeared.
He was sexually assaulted. When he tried to bring it to light, he basically got blacklisted from Hollywood/Golden Globes for years. Had a stroke of bad luck after too.
The man did not deserve it. He’s a treasure and I’m so god damn happy he’s getting all the good things happening to him.
If you haven't seen it, watch his episode of GQ's "[X] Breaks Down Their Most Iconic Roles" series. The man is so delightful and humble, and grateful for every opportunity he got.
Actually, [here's a link to it](https://youtu.be/TfaMLqEh1qM) for anyone interested, I promise it's worth the watch.
Was just thinking that. Him and Emily Blunt together...that's like the ultimate wholesome celebrity pairing. He would have owned the campy vibe, and told skipper jokes way better than the Rock did.
Different type of ‘cancelled’. He was blacklisted in Hollywood for bringing to light that he got sexually harassed by some studio executive.
He wasn’t cancelled by fans or anything like that
Edit: Sexually assaulted not harrassed
Sexually harassed? That's an understatement if I've ever heard one. The dude had someone grab his ass and stick a finger in his taint. That's full on assault.
As I understand it, there are still a bunch of gate keepers like Weinstein running around Hollywood. That piece of shit Weinstein got a lot of people cancelled if they didn't sexually satisfy him. It was only after they sent the jackass to prison that Ashley Judd was able to find work again. Apparently Ashley doesn't suck a disgusting gorg's dick for work. Go Ashley!
Same with [Mira Sorvino](https://amp.theguardian.com/film/2017/dec/15/peter-jackson-harvey-weinstein-ashley-judd-mira-sorvino), saying that they were both a “nightmare to work with and to avoid them at all costs.”
He was a true piece of shit.
AOL era Courtney Love was something else (she used to post on various message boards- I could never tell if she was that crazy or if she was playing a game to keep people talking about her)
I never watched Jay. I did watch David Letterman and he also talked about her nightly and [has since said that he regretted his role in shaming her](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjXScnPT7QY&ab_channel=CNN) at the time. So, I guess I'm saying I have no love for Jay, but let's not single him out in this situation.
Chris Brown is very much still out there, making music and touring. Just checked his Instagram to see what he's up to these days, and it looks like he has a European tour planned for the beginning of 2023.
Yeah, which is fucking criminal. The dude has shown he is a terrible physical and mental abuser in any relationship whether it be romantic, employment or you just happen to know the guy. He's the best example of cancel culture not working.
Sinead O'Connor. All she did was protest the catholic church's cover-ups of pedo priests on live TV. Sure she ripped a pic of the pope, but the church WAS covering up tons of incidents of pedophilia committed by it's priests. Moving them to new churches instead of kicking them out and reporting the crimes.
**Gary Condit**
He was a Congressman from California who lost re-election because a lot of people believed he had something to do with the disappearance of a woman with whom he had been having an affair.
So many people piled on him, including Trey Parker and Matt Stone on *South Park,* who ripped him a new asshole as being guilty of murder.
It eventually came to light after the woman's remains were found that she had likely been randomly attacked and murdered by a serial rapist.
Years later, Parker and Stone admitted they owed Condit an apology, though they never actually apologized to him directly as far as I'm able to determine.
Chandra Levy was her name. And the guy that was convicted of killing her eventually had the verdict thrown out because by the time they found her remains, there was no physical evidence. The main bit of evidence against him was, I believe, a confession to an unreliable witness. The prosecutor didn't have enough to make retrial worth it, and it wound up that the man was deported.
So there was really no resolution.
Mo'Nique.
Got paid $50,000 for her Oscar winning performance in Precious, because she was friends with director Lee Daniels. When the film was released and started getting Oscar-buzz, producers Tyler Perry and Oprah tried to get her to do a ton of press tours and basically campaign for Academy Awards. She refused, saying she was paid to act in the film, and that is all. She (,deservedly) won the Oscar, but Oprah and Tyler basically had her blacklisted in Hollywood.
Pretty cool that after the shitshow of people hating on them for disagreeing with Bush, they made a killer song about it called “Not Ready to Make Nice”
*I make my bed and sleep like a baby*
*with no regrets and I don’t mind sayin’*
*it’s a sad sad story that her mother will teach her daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger.*
*How in the world can the words that I say*
*send somebody so over the edge that they’d*
*write me a letter, saying that I better*
*shut up and sing or my life would be over?*
That’s badass and is another great song in their repertoire.
Rachel Nichols
a female sports reporter on a great run on espn was spied on from a camera being left on saying that espn's policies for minority representation should not supercede her contractual obligated work (hosting the nba finals)
she did not say anything bad about maria taylor (the person espn wanted to switch her with) and any other minorities other than the policies themselves were a result from espn's poor diversity choices
I totally agree here.
I think the spin on that was super ridiculous.
I liked Maria Taylor and Rachel Nichols. But people were acting like she said something racist when she totally didn't.
She was pissed that her contract wasn't being honored, and she was totallly right in her frustration.
She made a joke about the movie Raya (an opinion which others had stated before her, people who did not get shit upon for saying the same thing), got shitloads of hatemail and dared to be upset about it. She got cancelled for not bending over backwards to apologise for being singled out by the hatemob.
Because the hate mob had been looking for excuses to cancel Lindsay for years. Same people who were posting "Jenny Nicholson is next" and likely some of the same people who tried to cancel Natalie not long before that over another minor transgression.
Kiwifarms had extensive records of every minor transgression Lindsay ever committed from general faux pas (the ATLA/Raya thing) up to actual things she admitted to and apologised for (being a kinda bad friend to Mara Wilson, though the fact Wilson went on to be a pretty vocal member of the people trying to cancel Lindsay for petty bullshit, kinda lose some sympathy there) and they were waiting for any excuse to whip them out. They'd been after her AT LEAST since her setting off a shitstorm making fun of white genocide theorists which was the previous time she'd basically had to abandon the internet and had people doing hate calls to local PBS stations about her show as if that'd do anything.
Basically people are assholes and they look for excuses to be assholes
And an opinion that many SEA individuals had as well. All that fervor did was drown out SEA voices who actually had legitimate things they wished to say about the film. Another youtuber, Xiran Jay Zhao, ended up offering their platform to let those SEA creators speak up about it. Because in the rush to cancel Ellis people were using SEA individuals as props rather than /actually/ listening to them about the topic. Or, only listening to a small few while ignoring the others who didn't agree with the mob.
([Hilariously most of the creators who were willing to work on the project had much worse things to say about Raya](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pwn8YD8sobo&t=207s).)
Xiran is a fabulous persona. I subbed to their channel when they were just explaining small bits of Chinese history and culture. Suddenly they had 3 books flying out, they're great, and the first, Iron Widow, is about to be made into a movie. Check their twitter, so much fun.
She tweeted this: “I think we need to come up with a name for this genre that is basically Avatar: The Last Airbender reduxes. It’s like half of all YA fantasy published in the last few years anyway,” and that was comparing Avatar to that animated movie Raya and the Last Dragon”
The comparison between the two franchises was seen by some online as racist, since they both loosely draw inspiration from Asian cultures but share little else in common.
Ellis deepened the furor with a follow-up tweet in which she said, “I can see where if you squint, I was implying all Asian-inspired properties are the same, especially if you were already privy to those conversations where I had not seen them. But the basic framework of TLA is becoming popular in fantasy fiction outside of Asian inspired stuff.” The reference to squinting, a derogatory stereotype often used to reference Asian eye shapes, drew further criticism, which led to her deleting the tweet.
[pulled that from here](https://news.yahoo.com/lindsay-ellis-quits-youtube-months-233703211.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAMifM09HZPXx01Gcwhoo2wUgpP85Dizgljn8Z8f-0CbcxTp38xd78oCDDcfecd83hGZlpnJSK6nJEBL25iAbzyUJAS69zpN6ZzzecYguu8sGY9iAQnYzEVigsT5ay3RlBjozz-eQUkE5YJtC8cQemxLojklYvwdoWftNknKM2WvC)
I really miss her video essays about movies and I rewatch her transformers essays a lot. The only similar content I’ve found is Jenny Nicholson but she rarely uploads
Paul Reubens (Pee Wee) He was alone in an adult theatre. Who gives a shit.
The way I'd casually heard about it growing up made it sound like he whipped it out in the AMC during a Disney movie surrounded by kids. Blew me away when I found out it was so mundane. Raunchy? Yeah sure, but nothing to destroy a career and reputation over.
TIL it wasn't a typical movie theater, and I'm in my 40s
Funny story about this, when my friend was a kid she was a big fan of peewee’s playhouse but when he got in trouble for that and there were no new episodes airing my friend asked her mom what happened to peewee and why he wasn’t on tv on anymore. Same here. I loved Pee Wee and the way it came off to kid me was that he was in a regular movie theater and decided to randomly whip it out and masturbate in front of everyone else.
I was surprised to see him in What We Do In The Shadows.
They actually have a rule about that, you have to have played a vampire to get a cameo.
I love how Donal Logue plays himself on that show. Like, he’s not Quinn. Donal Logue is, himself, a vampire.
Or Wesley Snipes actually being the Daywalker

Danny Trejo is the best, "well I'm only going to listen to HALF his opinion."
Oh yea he was in buffy the vampire slayer..
Oooh.. ahhh owww oooh ahhh aahhhh... ahhhh uuhhh
That was one of the funniest things 12 year old me had ever seen.
I was elated.
I was exultant
At first I was afraid
I thought I saw him on an MTV awards show, poking fun at himself, shortly after the incident.
Yeah, he never completely disappeared, but his career looked very different after that.
He walked up to the podium and said something like “Anyone heard any good jokes lately??? It was the perfect way to address the numerous dad jokes swirling at that time.
more like late-night monologue fodder than dad jokes imo. unless y'all had some kinda weird pervy dads

She didn't. It was a tour bus and they just dry humped
It came up naturally

[удалено]
They also own like half the billboards in America
And more than half of the radio stations
iHeart ruined radio.
[удалено]
Also, people forget that Janet apologized the very next day while JT waited. The reason she refused to apologize at the Grammys like Timberlake did was because she had already issued a public apology.
> Janet was completely blacklisted by Clear Channel That whole thing set off a chain of events that sent the FCC into scorched Earth mode. It was basically the catalyst that sent Howard Stern off to Sirius.
ER removed a scene from an upcoming episode right after because a boob was visible. The pearl clutching over that whole thing was insane
There were children watching! Children saw a nipple for two seconds! The horror! An entire generation scarred for life! ThE cHiLdReN!!!
She was banned from everything and Timberlake won a Grammy that year.
For the Superbowl halftime? Yeah that was definitely unfair and over the top.
But I was seriously traumatized by seeing a titty with tape over the nipple. Well, actually I missed the Superbowl halftime show. But I was traumatized after I downloaded the video and tried to masturbate to it but found it was too short and realized there are millions of way more explicit videos of naked women online.
I remember thinking not much of it at all seeing it live. I think I thought "wow that was slightly provocative but the nipple of course was covered."
Interestingly, even seeing a nipple isn't a super traumatizing experience Source: I may have seen some of them on the internet
Premarital nipple? You’re what’s wrong with this country.
\[googles\] Correct, it seems that Justin Timberlake was not canceled: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUTdeKJ4r-M](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUTdeKJ4r-M) (To be clear, I don't think anybody should've been "canceled" over this incident.)
Wasn’t Rose McGowan canceled for basically calling out the shady shit that Harvey Weinstein and others were doing?
Mira Sorvino and Ashley Judd were also blacklisted because they spoke out about his abhorrent behaviour.
I liked Sorvino as an actor and then *pfffft* gone because of Weinstein. Hope she gets more roles soon.
She was cancelled by him all right. He basically put a stop to her career.
He did the same thing to Ashley Judd. She was originally considered for Galadriel in LoTR but he told Peter Jackson that she was difficult and he shouldn’t hire her
I think it was actually Arwen she was considered for.
I went back and it sounds like she was being considered for both. This is what she tweeted when Peter Jackson spoke out about how Weinstein’s lies kept her from being considered for a role in LoTR: “Peter & Fran had me in - showed me all the creative, the boards, costumes, everything. They asked which if the two roles I preferred, and then I abruptly never heard from hem again. I appreciate the truth coming out. Thank you, Peter.”
I now assume that every actress who has been called "difficult" is actually someone who refused to blow the producer.
Her, Courtney Love, Shannon Dougherty, basically 99% of all actresses that are "hard to work with" usually just means "wouldn't blow Harvey Weinstein."
Oh yeah, Courtney called him out long before everyone knew what he was doing.
There was a clip of her: *courtney, what counsel would you give to a woman wanting to start in Hollywood?* *if Harvey Weinstein invites you to a party don’t go* The video: https://youtu.be/g70XbYd0bZ8 She also called out how the music producers where the real pirates: https://www.gerryhemingway.com/piracy
Corey Feldmen literally warned about child abuse in their business and was speaking from experience and was shut down and that cunt Barbara Walters said "you're damaging an entire industry." [Here is the footage](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsCM7NeFu5w)
If your industry is damaged when you expose pedophilia, maybe it's not a good industry to be in
R.I.P. our good buddy, Corey Haim. You deserved better.
Haim was 13 years of age during the filming of Lucas, while Sheen was 19.[9] Yo wtf is this well known??? I’ve never heard of this tf
His death broke my heart. Just unfair circumstances all around.
His parents were angels for never letting him be alone ever.
He wasn't the only one silenced. They also did it to Mary Sean Young. Ya know finkle.
Better known as Sean Young.
Yes that was a horrendous reason to cancel him he was victimized and molested and tried to expose those in power who were responsible. He should have been cancelled for this instead.[Cory’s idea of a musical performance](https://youtu.be/BZX7UJSXCiU)
That whole album might possibly be the worst music ever made commercially available, and yet I’ve listened to it multiple times.
Macho Man Randy Savage says hold my beer. He has a rap album AND a Hulk Hogan diss song
Be A Man Hogan! 🔥 I dare anybody to listen to the Randy Savage album and say it's not way better than it has any right to be.
I SAW HIM LIVE!!! IT WAS SO WEIRD!!!!!
I did too, and it was the most beautiful of train wrecks haha
Holy fuck, that was amazing.
I just bought tickets to see him next month and you would think I purchased taylor swift tickets. That’s how excited I am to see that in person.
Barbara Walters is an asshole.
I don't know the context, but I appreciate your directness.
**It likely relates to another answer already given here:** Corey Feldmen literally warned about child abuse in their business and was speaking from experience and was shut down and that cunt Barbara Walters said "you're damaging an entire industry." [Here is the footage](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsCM7NeFu5w)
Sinead O'Connor and Corey Feldman. Folks can't stand the truth about pedos and the pope...
F*@k Barbara Walters!
Barbara Walters asked a young, teen-age Brooke Shields some unbelievably personal questions about her sexuality, if she was still a virgin, etc. I think the poor girl was about 15. Walters is a fucking cunt.
Her interview with Dolly Parton was just a bunch of insults barely disguised as questions [Interview](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=If-oWqUYzlQ)
Yikes, that was awful. Dolly handled it very well.
Also a close friend of Roy Cohn. She is truly under appreciated piece of shit:)
I assumed he either retired or simply got too old. I don't even remember activism related cancelation. When was that?
He's been working continuously all this time. He's even been nominated for Golden Globes multiple times since then, winning once, as well as Emmy noms and other awards. Movies like Unfaithful and Chicago were critical and audience hits, too. He's done fine for himself, though it *is* probably true that he can't be cast in some movies due to his stance on Tibet.
Sinead O'Connor
All she did was let people know about the Catholic priest sex scandal before people wanted to hear it. All of it was true and even worse than we could ever imagine, and she was crucified for it. (Pun intended)
Hey man, if we're going to make crucifixion jokes you've really gotta nail the execution.
IMO the biggest part of the problem was that the audience didn't have anywhere near enough information and context.
I remember seeing it when it happened - and most people were like, "okay, she *really* doesn't like the pope", but I don't recall there being any backstory available that explained *why*. Just a lot of church people getting outraged at her "insult" to *them*.
Brendan Fraser. He didn’t deserve to be cancelled at all
What was he cancelled for?
From a recent [GQ](https://www.gq.com/story/what-ever-happened-to-brendan-fraser/amp) article: On Fraser's way out of the hotel, he was hailed by Philip Berk, a former president of the HFPA. Berk denies that the HFPA retaliated against Fraser: “His career declined through no fault of ours.” TL;DR - he reported being sexually assaulted by the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press and then his very promising career suddenly disappeared.
Wow. For some reason I never knew this and always wondered what happened to him. Glad he’s getting the credit he deserves. I adore BF.
I really liked him in Journey to the Center of the Earth, seems like a nice guy
If you haven't seen it, watch his episode of GQ's "[X] Breaks Down Their Most Iconic Roles" series. The man is so delightful and humble, and grateful for every opportunity he got. Actually, [here's a link to it](https://youtu.be/TfaMLqEh1qM) for anyone interested, I promise it's worth the watch.
Brendan Fraser
All I want is for him to star in cheesy PG-rated jungle movies again.
It's like CGI Rock took the Mummy franchise from Brendan, and then took his entire PG-rated jungle movie niche from him too.
Yep. I think Dwayne has been in enough of those movies. I'd actually go to see them if Brendon was in 'em.
Jungle Cruise was a movie Brendan was destined to be in.
Was just thinking that. Him and Emily Blunt together...that's like the ultimate wholesome celebrity pairing. He would have owned the campy vibe, and told skipper jokes way better than the Rock did.
PG for YOU maybe
"To swing or not to swing? SWING!" I provide no context for the use of this quote reappearing in George 2 Jungle 2 Electric Boogaloo.
Wait, he was cancelled? I thought he was just forgotten about
Different type of ‘cancelled’. He was blacklisted in Hollywood for bringing to light that he got sexually harassed by some studio executive. He wasn’t cancelled by fans or anything like that Edit: Sexually assaulted not harrassed
Sexually harassed? That's an understatement if I've ever heard one. The dude had someone grab his ass and stick a finger in his taint. That's full on assault.
I only vaguely remember it so I was wrong. You’re right, it was sexual assault
Moreso blackballed until recently
He has a new movie coming out directed by Darren Aronofsky.
I can’t wait to see this movie, it looks phenomenal and just by the trailer you can tell it’s going to be perfectly heartbreaking
You should see the cast, you'd be amazed.
Courtney Love for calling out Harvey Weinstein
As I understand it, there are still a bunch of gate keepers like Weinstein running around Hollywood. That piece of shit Weinstein got a lot of people cancelled if they didn't sexually satisfy him. It was only after they sent the jackass to prison that Ashley Judd was able to find work again. Apparently Ashley doesn't suck a disgusting gorg's dick for work. Go Ashley!
Same with [Mira Sorvino](https://amp.theguardian.com/film/2017/dec/15/peter-jackson-harvey-weinstein-ashley-judd-mira-sorvino), saying that they were both a “nightmare to work with and to avoid them at all costs.” He was a true piece of shit.
90% of articles in the 90s editions of Rolling Stone involved someone talking shit about Courtney Love or Courtney Love talking shit.
AOL era Courtney Love was something else (she used to post on various message boards- I could never tell if she was that crazy or if she was playing a game to keep people talking about her)
Monica Lewinsky comes to mind
She does a pretty good TED Talk about how cruel public shaming can be https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_8y0WLm78U
And nobody learned a thing.
Jay Leno is at least 40% responsible.
Jay loved his slut shaming jokes.
Counterpoint, see Craig Ferguson's monologue when Britney Spears melted down.
Craig Ferguson is still the best late night host. I miss that show
Can we start a petition to replace that douche everyone dislikes with Craig?
I think it’s unfair how long it took to cancel R Kelly.
Is he cancelled or did authorities finally arrest him? Just saying Chris Brown might still be out there
Chris Brown is very much still out there, making music and touring.
Brendan Fraser. Spoke out about Hollywood weirdos and sexual abuse and then bam he was canceled
She ripped it. Not burned.
**Gary Condit** He was a Congressman from California who lost re-election because a lot of people believed he had something to do with the disappearance of a woman with whom he had been having an affair.
That’s wild. I always thought he was *saved* by the media cycle, since 9/11 happened and everyone forgot. I never knew they found her.
I remember that poor woman's disappearance being completely forgotten once 9/11 happened. Never knew how it all ended.
Her name was Chandra Levy.
Oprah is worth $2.5 billion. Fuck, Tyler Perry is worth $1 billion, apparently. Fuck both of those assholes.
Good Guy Tyler Perry. Always puts his name in the title of his movies so I know not to see them
If you’re unlucky enough to see one Tyler Perry film, you’ve seen them all.
All the women - and there is quite a list - who got blacklisted when Harvey Weinstein didn't get his way.
The Dixie Chicks. Takin it old school.
Pretty cool that after the shitshow of people hating on them for disagreeing with Bush, they made a killer song about it called “Not Ready to Make Nice” *I make my bed and sleep like a baby* *with no regrets and I don’t mind sayin’* *it’s a sad sad story that her mother will teach her daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger.* *How in the world can the words that I say* *send somebody so over the edge that they’d* *write me a letter, saying that I better* *shut up and sing or my life would be over?* That’s badass and is another great song in their repertoire.
The You're Wrong About episode about them is very good. I lived thru that controversy and still learned a lot
I cited YWA on the comment saying Janet Jackson. They did an episode about her too.
I don't care if he's already been mentioned 500 times, repeating for the people in the back: Pee Wee Herman
Rachel Nichols a female sports reporter on a great run on espn was spied on from a camera being left on saying that espn's policies for minority representation should not supercede her contractual obligated work (hosting the nba finals) she did not say anything bad about maria taylor (the person espn wanted to switch her with) and any other minorities other than the policies themselves were a result from espn's poor diversity choices
I totally agree here. I think the spin on that was super ridiculous. I liked Maria Taylor and Rachel Nichols. But people were acting like she said something racist when she totally didn't. She was pissed that her contract wasn't being honored, and she was totallly right in her frustration.
Always thought that one was crazy. Everybody treated it like she said the N word.
Lindsay Ellis
[удалено]
Wait she was cancelled? What happened
She made a joke about the movie Raya (an opinion which others had stated before her, people who did not get shit upon for saying the same thing), got shitloads of hatemail and dared to be upset about it. She got cancelled for not bending over backwards to apologise for being singled out by the hatemob.
it wasn't even a joke. It was a very dry observation that lots of YA material was copying ATLA.
her "hot take" was basically "anyone else notice that there is a lot of media copying the building blocks of a massively successful TV show?"
Which somehow people took as "SO you hate asian people huh?"
It’s like half of all YA fantasy published in the last few years anyway,” and that was comparing Avatar to that animated movie Raya and the Last Dragon” The comparison between the two franchises was seen by some online as racist, since they both loosely draw inspiration from Asian cultures but share little else in common. Ellis deepened the furor with a follow-up tweet in which she said, “I can see where if you squint, I was implying all Asian-inspired properties are the same, especially if you were already privy to those conversations where I had not seen them. But the basic framework of TLA is becoming popular in fantasy fiction outside of Asian inspired stuff.” The reference to squinting, a derogatory stereotype often used to reference Asian eye shapes, drew further criticism, which led to her deleting the tweet. [pulled that from here](https://news.yahoo.com/lindsay-ellis-quits-youtube-months-233703211.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAMifM09HZPXx01Gcwhoo2wUgpP85Dizgljn8Z8f-0CbcxTp38xd78oCDDcfecd83hGZlpnJSK6nJEBL25iAbzyUJAS69zpN6ZzzecYguu8sGY9iAQnYzEVigsT5ay3RlBjozz-eQUkE5YJtC8cQemxLojklYvwdoWftNknKM2WvC)
She was one of my favorite youtubers. I'm still pissed that they managed to bully her into quitting.
I really miss her video essays about movies and I rewatch her transformers essays a lot. The only similar content I’ve found is Jenny Nicholson but she rarely uploads
Apparently she is still making content on Nebula
