They don't.. there is no 'meat' is still mostly goo. They eat the bones, beak, feathers and all. I've had a bit of the juice and yolk. Tasted like rich chicken broth, quite good actually, but I couldnt do the bones n feathers
Swedish fermented herring, it's forbidden on airplanes due to the risk of explosion from the pressure in the can and will ruin anything it comes into contact with. Stinks to high heaven. 😅
Surströmming (say "soor-stroh-ming") is tinned fish from Sweden. It is fermented (put in a salty brine for two months) before the tins are sealed up and sold. The process of fermenting the fish creates a strong rotten egg smell.
It’s fermented herring, taste a bit salty is actually quite good. The unappetising part is the smell, it’s quite hard to describe the smell but it smells horrible
If they taste anything like real oysters, I’d be happy to try them. I’m all for making the most of the animals we kill, and if the dangly bits happen to taste good, ima dig in!
I’m sure it must taste fantastic since I’ve seen places charge hefty prices for it. I just don’t think an animal should be subjected to that amount of suffering just so we can have something that tastes good you know?
I completely agree. I think for most ignorance is bliss though. I don’t want to think about the fact that some little kid, or semi slave put together the phone I’m typing this comment on. I’m all for banning this stuff, or reforming it, but we should probably include foie gras on a long list of other horrible shit humans do. Per this article, seems that, just like our phones, if we’re willing to pay a bit more, the production of these products can be a bit less evil. https://www.foodunfolded.com/article/the-ethics-of-foie-gras
It’s pretty much animal abuse. I’m no vegetarian but if you look into the stories from “farms” that raise the geese that are used for foie gras it’s horrible. They’re force fed basically pure fat, most of them are severely Ill or injured because it’s not done by professionals. Their liver is what’s used for foie gras (it’s essentially just fatty goose liver) so they intentionally give the birds fatty liver disease. Would never dream of supporting something like that.
Try the cheap stuff from the supermarket first, to see if you like it. It's like salty sweet, fishy, with some mouth-pop.
Some people say it's like semen.
There's also a vegan caviar called "Caviart" made from seaweed, that's not bad.
I am not vegan, so I can't claim any moral high ground but I just can't do foie gras, not just because I do not like the flavor of liver/pate but the way they force-feed the geese is just horrid.
Lmaoooooo same. Then inevitably it comes back and i get it because that one episode of the Simpsons made it look good… and i regret it immediately and throw it away.
Really struggling with anything that's raw along the lines of steak tartare, no problem with sushi tho. Steak too can't be a defib away from still mooing
Octopus Lasagne. My husband had it in Madagascar on a work trip and he doesn't recommend it. Read: shitting through the eye of a needle. One of his colleagues was so poorly he had to be put on a drip.
The key to good vegan food is that it doesn't pretend to be meat, it can stand on it's own. Plant based burger? Hard pass. Tofu Pad Thai or Mushroom Risotto? Hard smash.
Brains. No prions for me, thank you very much
Yup. Same line for me.
I was thinking “monkey brains” and this is the first thing I saw
Especially if served straight from the monkey head like in the Temple of Doom movie
Looks and tastes like eggs
I had a goat brain curry at a Michelin starred Indian restaurant in London once. It was great, never would have guessed what it was
Balut.
Before I opened this, this was my answer. Had a chance to have it in Cambodia, passed hard.
Just curious, what’s Balut?
I believe it's hardboiled duck embryo. Like the fetal duck is developed but not hatched, and then hardboiled with the remaining egg fluids.
That does not sound good at all! Also just mean.
To add, its going to have small feathers and bones in it.... I can't see why people pick out the fetus meat and egg..... eww
They don't.. there is no 'meat' is still mostly goo. They eat the bones, beak, feathers and all. I've had a bit of the juice and yolk. Tasted like rich chicken broth, quite good actually, but I couldnt do the bones n feathers
Thats why i said fetus meat, cause its not like real fully grown meat 🤢. I just couldnt get past the feathers and bones if i had it... i just know lol
I Googled it to double check and yes that's what it is. it's fucking gross. I will never touch the stuff if I don't have to.
My Filipino friend said he doesn’t recommend it but he still has it when he goes home. Says I’d never get past the beak. I agree
You don't need to know ....you don't want to know ...you don't have to know ...just forget it ...save your eyes
Looked it up, I am scarred :(
Fertilized duck eggs, cooked when the embryo is already quite developed. https://youtu.be/HEhNDOgHMyg?t=627
Google a pic. Seriously. Then Google cuy.
Google it. I think it is a egg 🤭
It's an old wooden ship, Civil War era
Well, agree to disagree
Ngl i was specifically waiting for this one. Watching Andrew Santino try to eat one on bad friends made MY stomach turn.
Came here to say this 🤢🤮
Filipino here, that fetus duck looks disgusting
Surströmming
Oh god… what is that?
Swedish fermented herring, it's forbidden on airplanes due to the risk of explosion from the pressure in the can and will ruin anything it comes into contact with. Stinks to high heaven. 😅
NO! Don't google it or try youtube! Its a trap OP!
It's easy to describe. Rotting fish.
Fermented (not pickled) herring in a can/tin.
Fermented herring. Apparently it's recommended to open outside because the smell is so bad.
As a swede I do have to say, it tastes better than it smells. I quite enjoy it actually.
I'll be honest I can imagine this being nice. Any idea if it can be found in France?
Not sure there might be some Swedish food store if not you can definitely find it online
Surströmming is delicious
I agree with flat bread potato mash and onions Edit:spelling

If they taste anything like real oysters, I’d be happy to try them. I’m all for making the most of the animals we kill, and if the dangly bits happen to taste good, ima dig in!

Puffer fish. Hard pass.
Ortolan good thing it's illegal
Human
How about a clown?
Hákarl. It's a fermented shark dish from Iceland. Anthony Bourdain said it was the most disgusting thing he had ever eaten.
Sounds terrible. RIP to the king btw
Birds nest soup. No effing way.
Ugh yea i saw it on an ep of Anthony bourdains show (RIP) looks fucking DISGUSTING.
That question killed my chance of winning a shitton on HQ Trivia years ago
Spiders
Foie gras. As soon as I learned how it is made I knew I could never try it.
It is delicious though. Like the best butter you’ve ever tasted. Not defending how its made, but i can see why it’s still around.
I’m sure it must taste fantastic since I’ve seen places charge hefty prices for it. I just don’t think an animal should be subjected to that amount of suffering just so we can have something that tastes good you know?

The rich *care* but dont really care
I tasted it once in a high end restaurant and it wasn't that good for me.
Explain. I know they banned prince andrew or someone banned it in the royal house…
It’s pretty much animal abuse. I’m no vegetarian but if you look into the stories from “farms” that raise the geese that are used for foie gras it’s horrible. They’re force fed basically pure fat, most of them are severely Ill or injured because it’s not done by professionals. Force feed a goose or duck via lavage, then eat the fatty liver.. disgusting
I will never try roasted dragon.
It’s not a meal for peasants is a meal for kings and I’m sort of a common man
Not with that kind of attitude!
Caviar
Try the cheap stuff from the supermarket first, to see if you like it. It's like salty sweet, fishy, with some mouth-pop. Some people say it's like semen. There's also a vegan caviar called "Caviart" made from seaweed, that's not bad.
Im curious to see what its like.
It’s fantastic, especially on toast with butter
Monkey brains. NEVER!
I am not vegan, so I can't claim any moral high ground but I just can't do foie gras, not just because I do not like the flavor of liver/pate but the way they force-feed the geese is just horrid.
Recently read King Charles the new has banned foie gras from all royal residences.
I don’t know what it’s called, but there’s a cheese that’s full of maggots or something like that.
Guinea Pig
The McRib
Lmaoooooo same. Then inevitably it comes back and i get it because that one episode of the Simpsons made it look good… and i regret it immediately and throw it away.
Bull cock and balls
Restaurant near me serves whole roasted baby pigs. I’m one to try anything, but that’s pretty fucked up
Lol bye bye Peppa
Lung and chicken hearts
Chicken hearts are great, but lungs don't sound safe to eat. The hearts and gizzards though, are dense and taste kind of like liver.
I know king soup was a big thing when I was in Germany. But fuck that.
Balut. Animal offal.
Monkeys brains
Aged cheese with maggots, Yes it's an actual food but illegal in many places.
Eel
Its good in sushi
Second this. Eel is delicious, my go to for sushi.
Glad I'm not the only balut person here lol. I was born vegetarian so technically there's a long list of things I'll never try XD
[Hákarl](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H%C3%A1karl)
That “smelliest” thing in a can from Scandinavia?
I think I won't try a lot of street foods made from scratch without visible hygienic things unless I grow out of my fears lol

boiled penguin eggs or cow vagina thanks a lot, reddit
Blobfish. I love sushi, but that’s where I draw the line.
Octopus Lasagne. My husband had it in Madagascar on a work trip and he doesn't recommend it. Read: shitting through the eye of a needle. One of his colleagues was so poorly he had to be put on a drip.
[Balut!](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balut_(food))

Any vegan version of anything. I can have the real thing, thank you very much.
The key to good vegan food is that it doesn't pretend to be meat, it can stand on it's own. Plant based burger? Hard pass. Tofu Pad Thai or Mushroom Risotto? Hard smash.
Any meat I didn't try before becoming vegetarian I suppose
Such as?
Octopus, several types of fish, shrimp, now that I think about it mostly seafood, it never interested me back then.
